I'm sorry but I just can't accept it. My input was minimal, whereas you have slogged day in day out for months. I am in turn awarding this star to you. Wwwhatsup (talk) 16:55, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You must accept the barnstar! You deserve it for all the great jobs you did (and you are doing) on that article and on all other articles related to The Clash and the underground music scene too. And, for sorting out images and (great) videos, reverting vandalism, and many other jobs you are doing on Wikipedia. Anyway, I checked out the last 500 edits on that article and I gave the barnstar to the most active wikipedians/contributors (check this out). Sometimes, the simple action to revert vandalism is better than to write a new "crap" section. Consider this barnstar as a cumulative award. Thank you so very much Wwwhatsup for the barnstar! Wish you are doing well. Take care and all the best. –pjoef (talk • contribs) 09:23, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I will, grudgingly, and with thanks, accept it for my general efforts over an active period late last, and early this, year. Recently I haven't had the time. Wwwhatsup (talk) 19:57, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This month was the first in over a year in which no articles were promoted to featured article status. In the period between March 2007 and April 2008, the project produced a whopping 70 Featured Articles. Let's keep adding to those numbers!
Pearl Jam was featured on the Main Page on April 22.

How do you feel about adding Gerald de Groot's criticism and Hatch's response to the legacy section? I think it would work really well to balance out any NPOV concerns. Let me know. Viriditas (talk) 10:52, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've been looking at other articles for representing de Groot. First, I'm trying to get my mind around it. On the one hand, de Groot seems to be making borderline fallacious arguments; for example, trying to draw a negative parallel between scholars who call the countercultural shift a "cultural revolution" and the real, murderous cultural revolution of Mao Zedong. From what I've read, de Groot's comparison is almost unbearable and very unfair. But, he makes a really great point about those who mythologize history, and that's something we should definitely include. How would you summarize Hatch's response? You made me a little ashamed by doing what I ought to have done. I was mainly removing unverifiable categories, but you can't help seeing other stuff that needs done, and I was too lazy to do it. So thanks. --John (talk) 03:06, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well it's written right there in the article: Magazine "NME" for May 2008. No need to add a reference to the end if everything is already written inside the article, no? Paluv (talk) 21:46, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
"I've gotten into communication states with cats where I know I heard their voices in my head and we'd sit around and have conversations with each other. Like me and one cat there, one cat there and one cat there and I would sit there for like three hours talking to them before I realized 'I can't believe I've been talking to cats for three hours.'" - John Frusciante

Thanks for uploading Image:Apwlogo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:09, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello- I noticed you uploaded the photo of Patti D'Arbanville from either the PUNKCAST video of the reading of Pamela Des Barres' latest book, or from You Tube. Is it acceptable to do so? Does it not violate our copyright rules, or..? Also, I had read someplace in uploading photos that they shouldn't be done with writing (even the name of the person) across the front, as it would confuse some international Wikipedians.
If you DO know about copyright rules here, I really would like to upload a couple of album covers from an artist who hasn't put out an album since 1974 and who has been out of circulation. I've found perfect small versions to upload but am unsure of the rules regarding this. Can you assist me? --leahtwosaints (talk) 21:14, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That is my own photo, I shot that video. As far as the album covers go, it is possible to argue that they are of historical significance or that their is sufficient graphic notability in the style to render them fair use, but it's very possible they will fall to deletionist zealotry. I suggest justidious use of the Template:Non-free use rationale to justify any upload. Wwwhatsup (talk) 21:29, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Image:540-02-04suicide07.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:540-02-04suicide07.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Soundvisions1 (talk) 14:55, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Ari-Up.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 12:57, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"I got a lot of shit for the Rolling Stone review of Reckoning because the guy really likes my guitar style and he wrote, 'on this record, Pete Buck does everything.' We'd stop for gas and it would be, 'Pete Buck does everything. Why don't you go pump the gas, Pete?'" - Peter Buck
If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Tunde Adebimpe, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. Thanks, there's still a lot of work to do here on reggae articles if someone like Isaacs can have the article he had before. I stopped short of trying to list all his singles - a near-impossible task I would have thought. I couldn't find a half-decent free photo of him anywhere. We might get away with a promo shot from a press kit or similar if one can be found. There are also still lots of big names in reggae who don't have articles here - I've added Soul Syndicate and Ken Parker (musician) today. --Michig (talk) 19:24, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the Keith Hudson article needed a bit of help too. I haven't found a lot of "classic era" video footage on YouTube, but the videos of people spinning classic rare old 45's are very handy. I keep meaning to have a good go at the Dennis Brown article - I have some good sources but it could end up being a big job. --Michig (talk) 20:27, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for embellishing the article I started with that image, but if you own the copyright, I think it might be better moved to Commons, and therefore available to other projects under the WMF umbrella. If you'd like me to do this, please drop me a line. Cheers. Rodhullandemu21:26, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

John Frusciante and U2 were featured on the Main Page on May 2 and 26.
I redirected it boldly because it was a very short, unreferenced article that didn't assert notability outside of the band that Daryl is a member of. That's pretty common practice for members of a band: redirect unless they have sufficient notability for a standalone article. "The only confusion was, I think we all thought they were women. Kim was obviously a woman, but they all had this shaved-headed, pretty, soft look. And there were lots of lesbian bands at the time, and we always got booked with them, so we just thought the Pixies were another, like maybe they were like angry divorcees or somthing that formed a band.'" - Kristin Hersh
A tag has been placed on File:1177-01-03misspam02.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

However I do notice that there are several more such video stills in the File space, can I suggest you forward consent to OTRS as well? Otherwise they might suffer the same fate if someone else sees them. File:1177-01-03misspam02.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:1177-01-03misspam02.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. Hi Jolie, hope you are well! Yes, I do not like it either, but I do not know the "naming conventions" very well. User:AEMoreira042281 did it [1]. And, when I found that change, I updated all links. Wwwhatsup, thank you for the heads-up at Talk: Pygmalion back on April 1 regarding the two NYT articles on the 1914 premiere at the Irving Place Theatre. The information you directed us to has made it into the article, at long last. (Yes, the "probably findable" article shows the premiere was indeed delayed, by nine days.)
