Hi WereSpielChequers! I don't edit much on Wikipedia at all anymore but I do have very fond memories of it. I was pretty involved years ago. But, other things and other interests came to replace it. Anyway, I'm not posting this to be sentimental (but that happened anyway); I am here to say thank you for continuing the Time Between Edits project that I started long ago. I really appreciate it! Hi Katalaveno, good to hear from you, and thanks for starting it in the first place! I'm afraid the one bit I haven't been able to replicate has been File:Time Between Edits Graph Jul05-Present.png I don't suppose you could do an update of that sometime? The relatively small changes at time between edits despite huge changes such as the moving of much of the vandalfighting to the edit filters, the shift of the links across language versions from many to many to a hub and spoke system based on Wikidata and underlying all the last decade of the the rise of the smartphone and other devices where Wikipedia is effectively a broadcast medium probably mean that certain things are cancelling each other out. I still think that this has a strength in its rawness and the simplicity of what we are measuring. ϢereSpielChequers 15:27, 18 January 2018 (UTC)

Mark Easton - disputes of COI/removing content

Hi WereSpielChequers, Good day to you. I need your advice.

Background: Mark Easton is a BLP article about a journalist from BBC and I am not the editor who involve in the COI or any disputes. I have once reverted the removal content marking "Removed inaccuracies" which the cited source did indication of the content - see here - [1] by an editor related to BBC Broadcasting site - see here User talk:132.185.161.127. Subsequently another user named Mark Easton removed the content again twice see here [2] and [3] marking "Based on inaccurate and one-sided newspaper reports" (note sources are from Telegraph.co.uk - see here [4], [5], https://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/autumn-statement/11274243/Once-again-the-BBC-shows-its-true-colours.html] (the last two are view from Telegraphy news) and a transcript of the UK paliament hearing transcript [6] . Another editor named Shakehandsman has contact user Mark Easton on his COI on the article - see here User talk:Mark Eastonand raise a message in the article talk page - see here Talk:Mark Easton including another bias of BBC reporting - see here [7]. In addition, Shakehandsman wrote to me seek my input - see here Mark Easton.

Conern and questins: The article is a BLP piece and content might need to take into consideration for being a minor public person as Mark Easton under WP:PUBLICFIGURE, as on one of the content is supported by UK parliament transcript, and my question is since it seems the concern is over two major news agencies (which two of the cited sources are telegraphy view point) should the content especially the second content need to get secondary source to back up /support the claim, for it would be serve a better weight on the article. Wikipedia Entry for Diana Fountain

To WereSpielChequers I believe that you (ie Jonathon Cardy) included the text "The Junction is off centre to both Avenues." in the wikipedia entry for Diana Fountain. By observation, I believe this is true regarding Lime Avenue but not (to any significant extent) for Chestnut Avenue. Have you a reference/source? (I'm also intrigued as to why Wren designed it so, as I'm sure it was not an error) regards Dave DaveInUK (talk) 12:29, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi Dave. There is a map here. It is also obvious when you cycle or walk across the park. As for why, I couldn't find a source, it could be the longest vista that he could then arrange based on the shape of the park and what was already growing, or it could be that he wanted to intensify drama as the visitors got closer to the Palace, or as a friend of mine who used to be a freemason explained it is one of the masonic symbols that Wren designed into Bushy Park (just before reaching the Palace you have a vista to White Lodge at right angles to you). However none of those three can go into the article unless someone publishes such a story seriously. But anyone who looks at the map or crosses the park can take the location of the Diana Fountain closer to the Lion Gate than to Teddington Gate as uncontentious and obvious fact. Thanks for your reply but it was not what I was expecting! I misunderstood "the junction is off centre to both avenues" to mean that Diana Fountain is slightly offset from the actual intersection of the centre-lines of the 2 avenues. I believe this to be true for Lime Avenue, by a couple of metres. Proposal on removing administrative privileges

Not quite. But when I said "Then there is the issue of speed and timing and the related issue of privacy, ARBCOM has a proven record of desysopping people very very quickly when it is merited, and also having things take an extraordinary amount of time when people wanted to desysop someone who was not available to volunteer time here due to real life events. Remember the timing of an RFA is entirely up to the candidate, and since we are all volunteers it is or should be entirely acceptable for a controversial admin to email the Arbs, and say they don't want to out themselves, but they are on tour, sitting an exam, 8.75 months pregnant etc etc and unavailable for the next few weeks. Of course people are entitled to get miffed if an admin does that and then blithely edits multiple hours per day, but I'm not seeing ARBCOM being that gullible." I was contrasting RFA and Arbcom, and making the point that when people need a few days or weeks to respond, Arbcom can and does allow this. One of the week points of several proposals for additional recall methods is that they put the timing of the recall into the control of the person filing the recall. Otherwise people who knew that a particular admin was about to start a new military tour of duty, sit an exam or have a baby, they could time a recall to be the as inconvenient as possible for the target admin. I thought about that as well, but since this is the only place in your comment where RFA is mentioned, it wasn't clear that you were making a comparison. Natja Brunckhorst

Funny you should correct a typo of mine in that article. I'm actually ion a bit of a spree improving and writing articles about female musicians and artists. I knew Natja well when she was just a kid making the famous Christiane F. – We Children from Bahnhof Zoo movie in Berlin. I used to play with her father, Hans, in the Berlin Blues Cooperative. "Skippered"

Hello, I'm not sure what term is used in other parts of the world, but this is not the word used in Canada. The past tense of 'skip' in Canada is 'skipped', even in curling. I've reverted your changes. -- Earl Andrew - talk 15:49, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

skipper (third-person singular simple present skippers, present participle skippering, simple past and past participle skippered)

(transitive) To captain a ship. To skipper a team. 'The Cambridge rowing team is skippered by Joe Bloggs'.

Robevans123 & Earl Andrew. Sounds like Wiktionary needs an addition, but is this only a variant in Canadian and or US English or is this the only valid variant in Canadian and or English? If Skipped and Skippered are both valid in Canadian and or US English then we should prefer Skippered as less ambiguous, especially for readers using translation software, but if Skipped is the only valid term in curling articles then we should leave it untouched. Interesting question. It certainly seems that skip (noun and verb)/skipped/skipping are the preferred terms in curling - even when writing about Scottish teams in British newspapers.

The variants skipper/skippered/skippering (as a leader) can be used:

• as an alternative for captain or someone in charge of a naval vessel, common in the US Navy and Marines, and also the Royal Navy. Probably better to use "captain" in these cases, although there are some old ranks that include "skipper".
• as an alternative for captain or someone in charge of a (larger) non-naval vessel (large passenger and cargo ships). Again, probably better to use "captain" in these cases.
• as the term for captain or someone in charge of a (smaller) non-naval vessel (leisure/fishing/racing). Skip/skipped/skipping seem to be variants used in US/Canadian/British English to a lesser or greater degree. As WereSpielChequers says, use the longer word for clarity (unless Earl Andrew or other non-UK readers have objections).
• as the term for captain or someone in charge of a sports team (except for curling...) - mostly (informally) used in association football and cricket. Again, probably better to use "captain" in these cases.

Finally, "skip" is also used in scouting (commonly in the UK), as a noun, for the adult leader of a Boy Scouts group. I don't think I've heard or read this being used as a verb so the skipped/skippered skipping/skippering options don't really apply... Robevans123 (talk) 12:14, 26 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks Catlemur, I do easily confused words and other things where there is a significant proportion of false positives so they need the sort of manual processing that I do. Halo (religious iconography)

Here, which has been essentially stable for over 10 years, a bunch (or one) of shifty, shifting ISPs have shown up edit-warring (with edit summaries that are either misleading or insulting) to put a rather horrible modern Jain image at the top of the article. He/they are also up to Indian nationalist stuff at Gilgit, Himalayas and I don't know what redacted here. This registered ac seems part of the party. Any chance of restoring the oild version and protecting for a bit? The Jains weren't even heavy users of halos until recent centuries, & the second pic at the article is already Indian. Making edits to a draft

I recently created an article on a book 'life eternal' https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/868818801 (this is a link to the page that you edited) by Yyvonne Woon and it was saved as a draft. Its my first article and I would like to know how this process works, how much time does it take to get it published and other particulars. I found that you made a few corrections (changed typo , corrected a spelling or two, etc) .But , now I see I have some corrections to make. They are minor but I would like to know how to edit the draft article. I will be grateful to you if you could please let me know anything in this regard. - I am a young editor with almost no knowledge of the markup used in creating wikipedia pages . Hello Dishita and welcome to Wikipedia. At the moment the article is little more than a plot summary, and a summary that probably goes into slightly too much detail. Worse it doesn't yet contain any references. I suggest you look for those and especially any newspaper or magazine reports of this book winning awards, being a sales success or being reviewed by a significant publication. Burry Port and Gwendraeth Valley Railway

I note that you are the last person to have edited this article and within the article is the line template. Whilst this line template correctly shows an entry for Pontnewydd Halt, the station icon is missing on the line. This halt is on the line between Pontyates station and Trimsaran Road station, but I seem unable to access the template to make the required addition, so can you do it?

@Xenophon Philosopher: The "template" for the line diagram appears to be perfectly readily editable in the wikitext at the top of the "After 1948" section, Burry_Port_and_Gwendraeth_Valley_Railway#After_1948. If I am correctly understanding the diagram, a station marker for Pontnewydd Halt is shown, but at the end of a short branch diverging at the same point as the branch to Carway Colliery, rather than having been placed directly on the line between Pontyates and Trimsaran Road -- so this is what would appear to need to be fixed, if it is incorrect. If you look at the "External Links" section at the foot of the main Wikipedia article, the first one is that of the Colonel Stephens Society, which on accessing, gives a map and line diagram showing the station as being on the main line itself in the area that I spoke of, with a short branch line from there to a colliery. Does this help matters?

		Hello WereSpielChequers, Early in A Child's Christmas in Wales the young Dylan and his friend Jim Prothero witness smoke pouring from Jim's home. After the conflagration has been extinguished Dylan writes that Nobody could have had a noisier Christmas Eve. And when the firemen turned off the hose and were standing in the wet, smoky room, Jim's Aunt, Miss. Prothero, came downstairs and peered in at them. Jim and I waited, very quietly, to hear what she would say to them. She said the right thing, always. She looked at the three tall firemen in their shining helmets, standing among the smoke and cinders and dissolving snowballs, and she said, "Would you like anything to read?"
