2011 V8 Supercar Championship Series

Please only include drivers and teams in the list that have been officially confirmed by the teams concerned for 2011. Essentially, when a spokesperson says "This is our driver for the 2011 season," then it can go into Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a news magazine (refer WP:NOTNEWS) it is an encyclopedia. It has to be correct, not probably correct, or I think so, or if this happens then maybe. So while many magazines can say, oh yes this driver is going to go to this team next year, it is no skin off their nose to adjust that in a later issue and say, last minute issues caused a change. If a magazine publishes something the teams have not confirmed it is speculation. If V8 Supercars official website publishes it, it is still speculalation. Speculation does not go into Wikipedia (Refer: WP:Speculation). There are a hundred and more news websites and internet forums scattered across the internet that perform that function. Not Wikipedia. Wikipedia's aims are different. It's aims are to be correct the first time, and if the outcome is not certain, then to say and type nothing and wait until it is. James Courtney & Will Davison

I ask again - to get references to official confirmations, or do not include it. Refer WP:CBALL. I feel compelled to ask - what is it you do not understand about getting confirmation from official soruces, especially considering in the Speedcafe article you've indirectly referred to, it specifically says that both Courtney and HRT would NOT confirm the story? --Falcadore (talk) 03:00, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

Some referencing advice - when a reference, like the Telegraph article you chose, says it got its information from another website, in that instance Speedcafe, then you go to Speedcafe and pull the reference from there. As long is the reference is not speculative - which in this case it was. In that evemnt it does not matter whether v8supercars.com.au or the Telegraph's website or whomever publishes a speculative article, then it is not good enough. As much as it may hurt you to sit on the story and wait until the team officially announces Courtney's signing, that is what we have to do, because according to Wikipedia policy (refer WP:NOTNEWS) Wikipedia is not a news source.

The driver list on the 2011 article is for drivers that have been confirmed by their teams ONLY. No-one else. Is this understandable?

For your interest, the cover story of this weeks Auto Action explains exactly why we should not add James Courtney to the driver's list, and also why a #10 licence for Charlie Scwerkolt Racing should never have been added to the article. Speedcafe grid reference

Much of the Speedcafe grid story is still speculation - the majority of those references will have to be removed. I re-iterate again, an announcment FROM THE TEAM ONLY. The clue for you is is that Speedcafe specifically wrote in the story - "yet to be announced". If Speedcafe are reporting a team announcement, fair enough. If Speedafe are just saying ewhat the believe, and that team annuncements are still pending, then the drivers concerned need to be deleted from the list. Thank you. Please do not make changes to the Cup Series, I have exactly how it needs to be. I am waiting for further updates. Also, primary sponsor ONLY. Assiciative sponsors will make the table to big. You may not know that there is no purpose of adding teams that are TBA TBA TBA. I'm going to wait until they announce more information. Also testing is not a matter of who is driving, most teams have a test driver, such as for Jimmie Johnson his test driver is Josh Wise. Nascar1996 02:37, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

HSV Dealer Team

The term HSV Dealer Team did not existi prior to 2005 - chaning team names in articles like the 2004 season would be chronologically incorrect. -- Falcadore (talk) 06:02, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Toll Holden Racing Team

I notice you've been adding sponsor details to the Holden Racing Team while at the same time taking away the sponsor names from almost every other team. Accuracy of Kmart links

Kmart connects to the American chain of department stores. There has been no-connection between the American and Australian stores for decades. Present owenership is Wesfarmers and in mention in the Wesfarrmers article under - Wesfarmers#Other businesses. --Falcadore (talk) 23:22, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

That would work - but there is an ongoing concern that you are putting little or no research into any of these new links you are creating, some fanciful, some absurd, some inaccurate, some it appears you just make up on the spot. This has to stop.

Have you checked for example where Enzed links to? Pioneer? Do you understand the difference between linking to modern Rover Company and the historich company British Leyland which owned Rover during the 1970s when the article is depicted? It certainly doesn't link to a hydraulics company. Linking the TAC's Drink Drive campaign to an article of Drving drunk was just completely absurd.

If you don't start putting some thought into what you are doing I'm going to be forced to start placing vandalism warnings on you. I don't want to do that because you have exhibited good faith throughout your editting behavior, but this level of errors and inaccuracies does have to stop. You can't go on making assumptions and inventing connections and believe other edittors will clean up your mistakes. By far the better course of action is to not make these mistakes in the first instance. Thank you for any attention you have paid this. --Falcadore (talk) 23:08, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Additionally, I have a question for you. For the purposes of linking to provide further information to the reader, and the reader is presented with a list of races, what do you think is a more important link to the rader, a link to an article about the sponsor of the race, or a link to an article about the race? For example - in a list of 2010 races, what is more important, a link to Supercheap Auto, or to the Bathurst 1000? Is difference in importance a little, or a lot? Then consider, the link to Supercheap Auto is three times longer than the link to Bathurst 1000? Is it perhaps not an reasonable to suggest considering size of text that there should be one link to either race or sponsor, and then the linking story could then explain the other? --Falcadore (talk) 02:40, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

By way of explanation

In case you were wondering why I reverted your attempts to split drivers into seperate table boxes within teams on the various V8 Supercar teables, displaying the drivers within the same box helps to emphasize that these drivers shared the same car over the course of a season. Particularly to the casual reader who does not neccessarily know motorsport's intracacies. As an aside, I notce you have put much of your editorial work into improving tables. Have you considered adding material to the text of articles and contributing particularly to season description? It is held by wikipedia that the text is far more important than the tables, and that tables should be an aid to understanding the text of an article. Article of the month – 2010 Ford 400, a new Good Article The 2010 Ford 400 was a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race that was held on November 21, 2010 at Homestead Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida. The 267 lap race was the thirty-sixth in the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, as well as the final race in the ten-race Chase for the Sprint Cup, which ends the season. The race was won by Carl Edwards for the Roush Fenway Racing team. Jimmie Johnson finished second, and Kevin Harvick clinched third. Pole position driver Kasey Kahne maintained his lead on the first lap of the race. Edwards started in the second position on the grid, and became the leader of the race on the fourth lap. Shortly after a restart on lap 22, championship leader Denny Hamlin spun sideways, resulting with damage to his splitter. Martin Truex, Jr. took the lead on lap 73, but after the final pit stops Edwards was first. He maintained the lead to win the race, having led it for 192 laps. A total of 67,000 people attended the race, while 5.605 million watched it on television. There were ten cautions in the race, as well as twenty-five lead changes among nine different drivers. Edwards' victory was his second win in the 2010 season, with the first coming the previous week at the Kobalt Tools 500. Jimmie Johnson won the Drivers' Championship, 39 points ahead of Denny Hamlin. Johnson's team owner Rick Hendrick won the Owners' Championship. Chevrolet won the Manufacturer Championship with 261 points, 44 points ahead of Toyota. (More...)

Hi, I have reverted recent changes on the above article because it was throwing errors on the maintenance categories for articles with broken refs. As far as I could make out, the recent edits added nothing & indeed took away the fact that the project had been abandoned etc. However, I may well be wrong - it is not something that I am familiar with - so feel free to try again but please could you ensure that there are no citation errors showing in red at the bottom of the article after you repeat whatever it was you were trying to do.
