Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

Category:Labour Party life peers

I noticed you have been removing peers from Category:Life peers and placing them in Category:Labour Party life peers. Was this discussed anywhere? In the past, subcategories of Life peers have proved controversial, in particular Category:Female life peers.

At present the are four other subcats: Female life peers, Law lords, People's peers and Pre-1876 life peers. In all expect the last, articles listed in those categories are also listed directly under Life peers. (Pre-1876 life peers aren't really what we would think of as regular life peers, so that part makes sense.) Indeed, it seems odd to have a category for Labour peers, and not for other parties or Crossbenchers. Without those other categories, the Labour peers should be left in the Life peers category too.

In addition, I'm not sure about the name "Labour Party life peers". Perhaps "Labour life peers" would be better? JRawle (Talk) 22:18, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All I can find now is at Category talk:Life_peers. It's a different situation from the Labour peers, though. Either their should be a division of all articles into subcats (e.g. by party) or else a category is for a subset of special interest, e.g. female peers, in which case they should also be listed in the main cat to prevent the latter becoming in effect "male peers".

Decide on a definitive naming scheme, then perhaps have a go at moving the others into similar categories (Conservative life peers or whatever). I guess some will be listed in more than one if they changed allegiance. There are also non-affiliated peers to consider (as distinct from Crossbenchers). I have no particular view on this, but with the much weaker whipping in the Lords, peers someimes move to the cross-benches, so that a person may be a Labout peer at one date and not at another. Template:Sample box

Hi, TreveX. I have a question about the Sample box start/end templates you created; it seems there's a problem with them. If you look at Jazz or Dixie (song) (the two examples I saw), the template isn't ending when it should, and instead puts everything following it into the box, including references, external links, other templates, etc. Can you take a look at it and figure out what's going on here?
