Hello, Tram1203. Your question has been answered at the Teahouse Q&A board. Feel free to reply there! Please note that all old questions are archived after 2-3 days of inactivity. (You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{teahouse talkback}} template.
Nice to have another editor on board! I see you're joining other Wikiprojects as well. Getting involved with what you're interested in is great. If you like fixing typos, you might like the moss project. Currently there's this list of typos. The comma section is probably the easiest - most of these typos involve a missing space after a comma. You can fix them by using the 'find' feature of your web browser. If you ever need help with anything, feel free to ask at the Teahouse or my talk page. Just a quick question in the new rule it says Gaol has to be changed to Jail however for retired prisons would this rule still be effective as that was the original name of the prison? Tram1203 (talk) 01:46, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That might be because the article you're trying to edit is protected. You're a new editor, but most of these restrictions shouldn't interfere wih your editing. You could fill out a talk page request or just skip those articles for ones you can edit. As for jail and gaol, I'm not sure. I always leave typos I'm not sure about to other editors. Some other editors that help out with the moss project are Beland and Ira Leviton. They might know what to do in that specific situation. Clovermoss(talk)02:01, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I just saw this. Again, I really do appreciate your enthiuasm, but adminship is not something that happens the same day as your first edit. It's just maintenance work anyways, but it requires a lot of understanding of policy that can take a long time to learn. My advice is to just keep editing in the areas that interest you for now. Greetings! Given the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style#Gaol vs. jail, I'm going to remove "gaol" as a typo that needs fixing, since there seems to not be enough of a consensus that this should happen. Though in general, the spelling of proper nouns should never be changed; that was never intended to be part of the scope of this cleanup. Thanks for your help with typos! -- Beland (talk) 02:33, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm willing to help you out if you need it, and be suppporive. However, if you're looking for adoption, the place to go is here. I appreciate your enthiuasm, and I wish you the best. I'm also going to pingNick Moyes because he helped me a lot when I was new here, and although he has a tendency to be busy, he might be able to offer some helpful advice. I mean this in the nicest way possible, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable being called your friend. I think it's amazing that you think so highly of me, and I get the impression that maybe you're a younger editor. If that's the case, please read this and follow the advice on that page. As I said, I'm here for you - I wish you all the best and if you find something to be confusing around here, I'll try my best to help you figure it out.
