Hey there: Not sure how to handle my signature. Its gotten a little complex and I saw the User: Merovingian had done something similar to what I have. You mentioned "substing the template," which I am not sure what that means. Also, when the signature is placed in the Raw Sig part of my preferences page, then it leaves this bulky long string on the page, that makes further editing difficult for other users. (Personally, I don't like when other users have these really long complicated signature tags on the AfD pages and elsewhere, as it makes editing difficult). Any suggestions on how to substring it?—Gaffταλκ07:43, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
Tomf688 RFA vote
I'm trying to make sure that I take the time to thank everyone who voted in my RfA, and verify that they don't have any concerns over my experience, neutrality, etc. If you have a problem, please drop a line on my talk page and I will answer it as best as I can. Again, thank you. --tomf688{talk}14:37, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
Thanks. I see you went one better and did it twice, so have another barnstar. Seems a lot of people are keen to vote twice on your RfA, I might try myself but I'm sure you'd catch me. the wub "?!"13:21, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
Flamestar!
In recognition of your impending promotion to mop-wielding ignomy, ...
Titoxd,
Disclaimer: This is not soliciting a "vote", god forbid. I'd be perfectly happy if you came and made some compelling argument to keep, in fact.
What this is is a little note to indicate that there is an, um, interesting discussion about what constitutes a reputable source, and I'd appreciate another someone of sound mind to participate. Not to suggest that any of the others involved are not of sound mind, of course. brenneman(t)(c)02:21, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
Awesome! Though there was never a doubt that you'd have a mop soon! :-) Glad we won't be edit conflicting on CSDs anymore :-) Heh heh. Congrats!! >:Roby WayneTalk • Hist • E@18:24, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
Hello: I saw that this article had just been deleted, thus sent it for speedy. 03:20, 25 October 2005 Denelson83 deleted "Kay Tipton" (CSD A7).
Sorry if that was not the appropriate move. On reading it, does sound like somwhat of a noteworthy teacher. Thanks.—Gaffταλκ03:53, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
No problemo
Hi there. It was my pleasure voting for you, conrats on making in and being so well supported! I will keep my eye on you:-) Cheers Banes17:55, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
Congratulations on your promotion, and on its extreme support. And thanks for voting for me (and linking to that table, I'd been looking for it for ages) I guess this makes us some kind of crazy admin twins or something! the wub "?!"18:26, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
Congrats on becoming a sysop! As stated, I thought you were one before, and Im certain that you will do a great job (others concur with me— look how much support you got). Good luck. Orane(t)(c)(@)19:47, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
Yea, congrats. And thanks for protecting my userspace; though it's open to editing by others (and though it was me, just too lazy to log in :) +sj +00:52, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
Thanks!
Hi, I'd just like to thank you for reverting the vandalism of my user page! I've never had someone so resentful of me before - I feel strangely proud :-D The individual in question has been persistently vandalising (seemingly) the page of Maximilian von Spee (and others) using the IP address 203.36.44.13. Anyway, thanks again! SoLando (Talk) 00:59, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
You deserve it. And I am grateful that you supported my RfA, even if I didn't get consensus. Congradulations. I look forward to seeing you around Wikipedia. -- Hurricane Eric - my dropsonde01:23, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
I am extremely pleased to hear of this good news. That just shows how many users like you, what goes around comes around. Oh please, and as if YOU need any watching from my part in what you are going to do from now on, I have full confidence in your abilites and wish you all the best. Gryffindor07:46, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
Thank you for supporting me in my RfA. I never thought I would get so much support! Thanks to your help, my nomination was the 10th most supported RfA in Wikipedia history. Now, please keep an eye out on me while I learn the new tools, ok? Thanks again! Titoxd(?!?)18:17, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
Thanks. At the moment, my plan is to archive them after 24 hours. But if I got a couple of admins chiming in on the talk page saying, "archiving is unnecessary," I'd gladly stop. I raised the idea there awhile back, actually, and got no comments. :)
Hi Titoxd, I've just recnetly started patroling recent changes reverting vadalism and I'm just wondering sense we both warned the same user for vandalism what the " test4, and test5, blocked" mean if anything at all? I've kinda just been using my own warnings and such, but it seems to me those might be automated warnings? If they are I'd greatly appreciate if you would kindly explain to me on my talk page how to use them. Thank you very much KnowledgeOfSelf01:32, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
Thank you very much it was very helpful, it seems this will become a custom of mine but i tend to leave jokes to wikipedians who are kind and helpful to me, it's one of the best way's to thank them in my view for laughter is a beautiful thing. LOL how corny was that huh? Anyway "cheers."
In the middle of a forest, there is a hunter who is suddenly confronted by a huge bear. In his fear, all his attempts to shoot the bear fail. Finally, he turns and runs as fast as he can. The hunter runs and runs and runs until he gets to a very high and steep cliff. With nothing left to do the hunter drops to his knees, opens his arms and exclaims,"Dear Lord! Please give this bear religion!" The sky darkens and lightning flashes. Just a few feet short of the hunter the bear stops, looking very confused. Suddenly the bear looks up into the sky kneels, and says,"Thank You, Lord for this food I'm about to receive..." KnowledgeOfSelf02:08, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
The rollback button
This is a message for Titoxd and Carbonite, about this and this. I would like to remind you that the rollback button should be used only for reverting vandals. Having two admins engage in a revert war using the rollback button at Wikipedia:Requests for Adminship is a silly thing, regardless of what your motives are. Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 04:19, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
Now that the voting has officially closed, I would like to thank you very much for supporting my candidacy for adminstrator and as of 18:36, 28 October 2005 (UTC) I am an administrator. I will make sure to use the additional power judiciously and I welcome any comments you may have. --Reflex Reaction19:39, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
So, Mr. Coordinator, I joined up the new Esperanza program. Apparently, I'm the only member so far. Do you have any aspiring admins, leads, or ideas yet? Let me know. Cheers, Bratschetalk | Esperanza21:47, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
James Roosevelt, Sr.
Why thank you for reminding me of my error, I'm glad someone had nothing else better to do so that I could be reminded. I am well aware of the long slow tedious process of fixing somebody else's mistake, but I appreicate the link. Thank you ever so much, Titoxd. --Caponer00:08, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
The article you reverted was wrong -- it was even internally inconsistent. I was just trying to correct it! Chern classes don't depend on a Riemannian structure on the base manifold. In fact, they have little to do with a Riemannian structure at all. Furthermore, the equation F=dA was totally wrong. The entire example was a non-sequitur.
Sorry about that, but the equations have been checked in the past before by WikiProject Mathematics, and if the article is :indeed incorrect, please mention that in their talk page. The modification seemed too different, that's all.
The articles were basically the same! I was just conveying the information correctly. Please go and re-read them. Thanks. (The equation F=dA is wrong, or at the very
least misleading. At least, it doesn't agree with the linked reference, which I wrote -- partly.)
The only linked reference is for a book by Jurgen Jost ... are you Jurgen Jost? and in what sense did you write it "partly"? The book lists no co-authors. (Great book, by the way, I like it) linas06:38, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
Anyway, it wasn't the equations I was objecting to per se. It was the fact that Chern classes have nothing to do with a Riemannian structure. (I could say more
but I would be wasting my time.) Anyway, I'm a math instructor who works in the field, so I actually do know what I'm talking about.
Hi anonymous. Thanks for your edits to Chern class. However, please try to avoid being rude when others attempt to engage you in conversation (the remark about "drones" is uncalled-for). The bits that you removed, about symmetric polynomials being generated by an expansion of the determinant, was indeed a non-sequiter, but was meant to be of an expository nature, providing insight. linas06:33, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for noticing it! It actually was an intentional typo to check if anyone read my user page. Since someone does, I don't need it anymore. :) Titoxd(?!?)22:37, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
Thanks!
My Apologies...
...concerning my comments towards your reverting of my James Roosevelt, Sr. edits, I received your message at an inconvenient time and I shouldn't have been so crass. Because you have an eye for organization, I was wondering if you would be so kind as to assist me with ideas for reorganizing the Hampshire County, West Virginia article. It's gotten a bit too large and I feel it could be organized a bit better and more in-line with Wikipedian format. I would like to retain the information and sections, just in a different way. Let me know if you would like to be of any help! --Caponer00:00, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
Hello, Doctor. For the record, I'm not a bot, and I review every single edit I revert, I only have a tool that makes the process faster, the rollback given to Wikipedia administrators. But don't worry, I wasn't insulted. However, other users might not appreciate similar comments, so I still recommend you listen to Linas's advice. Titoxd(?!?) 21:07, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
Anyway, I was rude to you as Linas pointed out. But your revert came too quickly, in my opinion. To me it was clearly the work of an automated tool (a "bot"). Using such tools can be a double-edged sword. Thankfully, there was a thoughtful human at the other end in this case.
On the other hand, I would like to thank you for your thoughtfulness. I believe that my submission was entirely true to the spirit of Wikipedia. I was providing a clear and concise formulation of the Chern class. My alterations to the page would never have made it through were it not for you and Chris Matthews of Wikimath. Zorrothecorrector
Hey, thanks for catching that. You rock. Evidently, he's a little upset that I speedy tagged something he created. Everyone's a crtic! :)--Sean|Black06:56, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
Scripts
Once I get the script ready for prime, I'll release it under GDFL. Right now, I still have some tweaking to do. Sometimes, the script will mess up on special characters or and odd \ or " character. :-). In the mean time, I can run it for ya'. It doesn't take long. Just let me know. >:Roby WayneTalk23:37, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
Meta-discussion ahead - Feel like giving me some feedback? I'm trying to work on my mediation skills, the high profile of one previous conflict had has left the public impression I'm cranky. In this case though, I felt like I've tried pretty hard to work together with people. I've left a string of conciliatory messages on talk pages, I've made lots of effort to move discussion forward, I'm not sure what else I could have done. So, and please do tell it to me straight, am I "shouting"? I am frustrated, that much is true. Thanks, brenneman(t)(c)22:42, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. I am trying to be cautious without becoming a lame duck, and don't want to get Snowy offside. If I was being too harsh there in particular, I wanted to know. Oh, and the new page lay-out is very nice, but I have one question : loony barn? brenneman(t)(c)00:54, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
