NAT

Hi. You asked "How do you find out which computer made a vandalism edit if on wikipedia the edit is just described as being done by an IP for a whole institution?". The short answer is that the process of converting the private addresses on a network to public routable addresses on the Internet is called network address translation or NAT. A (imho) properly configured NAT environment keeps a log of which stations used the NAT address(es), and the times that they used it. In addition, in a school environment, many of the content filters keep a log of all of the pages viewed. Comparing the two logs can usually narrow the search down to a small number of stations. Unless the user was trying to cover their tracks, checking the station's cache and history will usually pinpoint it. Since the need to track stations down has increased, some districts have reconfigured their NATs so that everyone is not using the same public address. That's the 10,000 foot view. Actually I have many of those. I have Pre-Algebra (which I have to start over), World History, Physical Science, English, Health, and Computers... Here we are approaching February and am so sorry to bother you about the same problem of past January.

It appears am engaged in a battle with an editor who really has no knowledge of the band in question. I correct they erase. Until one of us stops, seems this will go on interminably.

Is there any recourse or peer-review for the matter?

A newcomer at King Lear

Hi these first six edits, which you rolled back seem to be perfectly valid, good faith edits from a newcomer who hadn't learned about how to use edit summaries. Some parts of the edits I might agree with, while I'd disagree with other parts, but in no way did they resemble testing or vandalism. Having found your name on the list people who sensibly contributed in correcting the Wikipedia page for "Barry Kay" (thank you), I am turning to you with a request. I am a registered user of Wiki. Being the originator of the Wiki page "Barry Kay" and the legal copyright holder of all text and pictorial meterials, I wish to uopload a "non-free fair use" portrait photo (I understand that to I mean that not everyone can use the photo) of Kay, which I took myself. For this purpose the Wiki system requires me to open an account. Upon doing so, I get the message "you are already a user". As a result I am running in cirles without gettimg any further. As I find the Wiki instructions immensely confusing, could you please help so I can upload that photo?
