Nair and EzhavaThe Nair article lacks a lot of references. I've added a couple, but more could be done. Should I put an "unreferenced" template on it? Secondly, I'm having a problem with the Ezhava article. I just gave it a cursory glance and found it very unencyclopedic, lacking references, and also full of POV. I rewritten some of it, but there seems to be an individual (192.147.57.6) who insists on "removing Nair references" and adding in POV. Maybe you could take a look (I know you've got a ton on your plate, so take your time! :))--Vivin Paliath (വിവി൯ പാലിയത്) 00:19, 3 January 2007 (UTC) Signpost updated for January 2nd, 2007.

It has engravings which contain names of plants in Malayalam, Sanskrit etc. but no Malayalam type was cast nor used for printing the book. The appearance of Malayalam in print and use of Malayalam type are hugely different. None of the sources quoted under Hortus Malabaricus says that the book used Malayalam types. Please stop spreading misinformation in order to increase number of DYKs to your credit. Also note that no Malyalam translation of the book has been done or published as you added in the article. How could you interpret the University's decision to publish one as publication itself? Radkris 06:53, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
de-intentWas the whole point of this exercise just to point out that I misspelled the author's name in the citation on the Hortus Malabaricus page? I don't see how my understanding of the word Hortus in Malayalam is relevant to this discussion. Either way, the meaning is given on the page.--thunderboltz(Deepu) 18:57, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Your good faith assumption is too one way, it seems. But this matter will be discussed, either here or outside. You can choose which way you want. Your nonchalance is not good in such an issue. You have given a part of your above post in italics. What does it mean? Were you quoting from a book? If you were, which book? I have talked to several experts and none has heard about a book named Kerala History and its makers by A. Sreedhara Menon. Further, the alleged publisher has no such title in their list. See here [3]. While the one by A. Sreedhara Menon seen there (A Survey of Kerala History) has dozens of Internet pages mentioning it the book you say is there has not a single mention anywhere on the web. How come? If you are quoting from a book, you need to clearly state that. Non-committal halfway statements can only cloud the real facts and believe me, they can't also hide them for long. Radkris 12:45, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Good, the book exists. Now, we will see who blundered, Sreedhara Menon or one who quoted him. If I get banned here(as you repeatedly suggest) the matter will be further discussed on my blog. If you quoted him rightly I will have the added liability of exposing Mr. Menon's blunder. This won't be hard because one who can clarify best on this book is a Keralite. The pictures I mentioned can't lie. Radkris 15:20, 6 January 2007 (UTC) The first instance of Malayalam type being used for printingWhich is “the first instance of Malayalam type being used for printing” may be disputed. Robin Jeffrey says that, Benjamin Bailey, founder of the Church Missionary Society press in Kottayam in 1821, was less flamboyant, but cut the first Malayalam types in Kerala, built a wooden press to complement the original press imported from Britain and compiled an English-Malayalam dictionary and According to Bishop Thomas Mar Themotheos, president, Kerala Auxiliary of the Society, the history of Malayalam bible is closely linked to the evolution of Malayalam printing and print language and even the evolution of the script. The first four books of the New Testament were translated into Malayalam in the early 19th century. In the absence of Malayalam fonts, one of the translators, Thimmappilla, had to go all the way to Bombay to cast Malayalam fonts. He completed the printing in 1811. Again, Dr. Bailey had to create his own wooden press to print his version of the Gospel according to Mathew in 1825. Perhaps, these two are not contradictory at all ( Bailey cut it in Kerala, Thimmappilla did it from Bombay) Wikipedia article has a dubious assertion that The first work published in Europe on Malayalam is Alphabetum grandonico-malabaricum sive samscrudonicum, published in 1772. The types were prepared by Clemente Peani, while the references given in the article do not say anything about “types”. But the fact that Malayalam types were not used in the printing of Hortus Malabaricus should be obvious. The Malayalam letters were printed in it using the same technique used for printing skethes of leaves and flowers. One will have to go to a museum in Netherlands to see the plates. I will ask anyone from India who is supporting this claim to atleast visit the Sreemoolam Library, Thiruvannathapuram, look at the original book preserved there and apply some common sense. The editor who has inserted this does not understand what a Movable type is and has either misquoted from a book or does not know what a reliable source is. ( Sreedhara Menon can at best write good guides for college students) El elan 09:17, 8 January 2007 (UTC) abt indulekha......hi im manu...frm Ahmd.... ll u explain more abt indhulekha nd d social nd cultural aspects of dat era nd nair women of dat time.... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 210.212.130.200 (talk) 08:27, 5 January 2007 (UTC).
Stop your prankStop your prank. Your marking socks. Plainly, you are uncomfortable at my pointing out your blunder, aren't you? This is very ungraceful. You will be pushing me to discuss the matter on my blog and other forums, if you continue thus. Radkris 16:41, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
A nice way to evade difficult questions. You blundered here and you often blunder in articles related to Kerala. For example you write that Vasco da Gama was the first European to come to India in Malayalama Wikipedia article on Gama. [4]"ഇന്ത്യയില് എത്തിയ ആദ്യ യൂറോപ്യന് എന്ന ബഹുമതി വാസ്കോ ഡി ഗാമക്കാണ്." You think this also is fact? This is not an error who has an inkling of a history of Kerala would make. I again say please stop spreading misinformation. Radkris 08:21, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
Wiki-sammaanam + TemplateGeeeez. SaTaa!. You sure take a lot of flack. I took a look at your talk page because I wanted to ask you about something, when I noticed the long discussions with Radkris...hence the award that is now on your user page. I'm sorry you've had to put up with so much after my last message. Anyway, what I actually came to ask you has nothing to do with that! I was wondering whether it's possible to translate a template into another language? (I just created a Spanish article on Pather Panchali yesterday. I'm thinking of making another on the Apu Trilogy ((la) Trilogía de Apu), but it would be nice if I could include a template listing Ray's films in Spanish.) --Kuaichik 05:36, 6 January 2007 (UTC) Wow, thank you so much! You even looked up the word for "template"! --Kuaichik 05:47, 7 January 2007 (UTC) I was just wondering about one thing, though. I translated the template into Spanish, and it is now available on the Satyajit Ray and Pather Panchali pages. But I noticed that the template seems to not display its actual content; instead, you have to click on "Desplegar" ("Unfold") in order to display the names of the movies involved. Does this happen on this Wikipedia as well? Does it have something to do with the fact that none of the links in the template have been created (except for Pather Panchali)? --Kuaichik 07:05, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Pakistani nationalismThe article has been protected after a POV user made this edit. The edit war that caused protection began with this same edit and everyone else was reverting it back to its older accepted version for a long time. Does this allow for the old version to be restored or will it be considered wrong to do so during protection. You can judge the NPOV of the two versions yourself, the bulk of the older version was written by a Pakistani user who believed Pakistan won the Kargil War so its not as if its Hindu POV pushing. Unfortunately, the Spanish Wikipedia has a set of clear-cut rules regarding templates on one page (I can't seem to find quite that sort of thing on the English Wikipedia). I seem to have violated two rules but am criticized only for violating one of them; I think I can justify the existence of the template with regard to that rule. The other rule includes this provision: "Navigation templates will be limited to a maximum size...Horizontal ones may not exceed three lines of links, without counting the usual heading." Does this rule exist on the English Wikipedia? --Kuaichik 16:44, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Ralbot 17:29, 30 January 2007 (UTC) Nair articleHello Deepu, I understand you are busy, but I was wondering if you could intervene in the Nair article? On the talk page, I have given my reasons for classifying the Nairs as Sudras. The reference is from Indulekha by O. Chandumenon (he is a Nair as well, and I would expect, an authority on the subject). While it is true that the caste system in Kerala was very different from the ones in the rest of India, Nairs were still treated as untouchable (and therefore, Sudra) by Namboothiris, be as it may, that they were a martial class. However, this fact seems to be unappetizing for some who want to romanticize or glorify. Repeated reverts, deletions and edits are taking place. These are mostly made by anonymous/new users. My request to stop these actions (on the talk page) have gone unheeded. I was wondering if you could semi-protect the article and restrict from new/anon users. Thanks! Unspecified source for Commons:Image:Pookalam.jpgThanks for uploading Commons:Image:Pookalam.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged. As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:06, 2 February 2007 (UTC).
