DC meetup #3Interested in meeting-up with a bunch of your wiki-friends? Please take a quick look at Wikipedia:Meetup/DC 3 and give your input about the next meetup. Thank you. Template:Db-bioTemplate:Db-bio is used by a number of different templates with link to it, such as db-nn. That's why it's generic. I've reverted. Corvus cornixtalk 21:29, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
I'm sorry, I don't understand your argument. I reverted because db-nn redirects to db-bio, and my speedy deletion tag was removed by another editor becuase it was on an article which was not a bio. I reverted the edits you made because based on your edits, db-nn is now no longer viable. Corvus cornixtalk 21:07, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
re: been there, done that...Thanks for the kind word! Solidarity, brother :-) --A Good Anon (talk) 02:09, 30 January 2008 (UTC) re: italics on the abbreviations e.g and etc.See Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Foreign words. Like most newspapers and other modern publications, the rule here is that "Wikipedia prefers italics for phrases in other languages and for isolated foreign words that do not yet have every day use in non-specialised English." Etc. and e.g. are both in everyday use and are not routinely italicized by us or by the vast majority of other publishers. For confirmation, you can also see Wikipedia:Manual of Style (text formatting) which includes the line "If looking for a good rule of thumb, do not italicize words that appear in Merriam-Webster Online." Etc and eg are both listed. You could also look at Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Latin abbreviations which says "When used in the main text, the abbreviations should normally be in roman rather than italic face." It is, as you implied in your first question to me, an obscure point of WP:MOS but an unambiguous one once you know where to look. On the issue of "history of vandalism", I retract my comment and apologize. My normal approach when evaluating the contributions of an anon editor is to first check for blocks in the log, then check for deleted contributions, then spot-check some edit histories to see if the user's edits have been reverted by others. In the case of your anon IP address, the deleted contributions log was large and some other reverts appeared to be in evidence. I now consider my assessment to have been a false positive. Again, my apologies for my failure to assume good faith. Rossami (talk) 00:02, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Hello Bipolar! If you find yourself being convinced by the new sources that people have listed since the AfD opened, you could withdraw this nomination. If, on the other hand, the new sources aren't sufficient, you could add a Comment to the AfD indicating what further info you'd like to see. I myself would be willing to Keep (for artists in this group) based on indication of holdings in permanent collections in any museums outside their native country. I'm justifying my vote in Torres Llorca's case not just because of the amazing number of Google hits (for this group) but also the fact that his work is held in a Fort Lauderdale museum. Addbot (talk) 21:49, 9 May 2008 (UTC) Request for HELP!Would you be able to help me with a situation I am dealing with re: ‘sockpuppet’ accusations?? (hopefully yes ; > ) Basically, I created an account half a year ago (using my name Jvolkblum as my account name) and had multiple issues regarding contributions I had made to the site. Admittedly, I did not grasp key fundamentals of copyright policies etc. and uploaded images and or added content to articles that was infringed on these rules. My intention was never to violate the rules or cause ‘vandalism’. Much of the content was related to municipalities and public institutions which I misunderstood to ‘public’ factual data and free information to add to wikipedia. Those mistakes were rather moronic indeed, but I believe ‘you live, you learn’ and can happily move on. Unfortunately I ended up butting-heads with several users who (in my opinion) treated the situations harshly and aggressively, unfairly targeting me for my faults. For whatever reason these interactions escalated and I ended up receiving warnings and access blocks. I ended my activity on the site attempting once or twice to appeal and regain access as a user. The crux of my dilemma deals with a sockpuppet fiasco that has developed where numerous users, user accounts, IP addresses etc. have been interconnected and linked directly to me. The rationale behind it all (from what I can see) is that the subject matter and articles involved are the same ones which I have contributed to, so I therefore am the one making the ensuing edits etc.etc.etc. I don’t know where to begin with how ridiculous this is to me!!! I was actually told by a colleague who googled my name that the results list turned up countless links to wikipages discussing the mis-deeds of ‘Jvolkblum’ (me). After reviewing much of what has been written I cannot even see any true problem with the edits made by the other users/ accounts/ IPs that I am allegedly the mastermind behind, which makes the situation even more confusing. Dialogue also definitively refers to me as ‘him’ and I am a male, however I never shared that info on this site, and the area I am from (nyc) is also definitively stated and discussed, information I also have never discussed on this site. I am feeling that my personal info was obtained (quite easily) from an outside search on the internet which is a gross violation of any authority I believe users of this site are permitted to use, no matter what. (hopefully I have not confused you too much yet?) What I do know is that much of the ‘evidence’ lined up against me deals with wiki administrators (abusively?) tracking edits from IP addresses or accounts that are not consistant, or stem from other countries. I do not understand how this all works and I certainly do not understand how this situation has arisen, but I do not know what to do to clear my name and stop this from continuing. Would you be able to help me in any way? I would appreciate it TREMENDOUSLY! please contact me at my username @yahoo.com if you can! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.6.120.99 (talk) 14:33, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Find A GraveYou've probably noticed I changed the Find A Death template on your page User talk:The Bipolar Anon-IP Gnome/Selected filmography. I wanted to explain why. We're in the middle of changing over from the old [[Template:Find A Death]] to the [[Template:findagrave]] in anticipation of the first one being deleted, so I've been working to remove the places were the first show up on the list of what links to that template. The old template can't be deleted so long as anything is linked to it. Please feel free to use the new one all you want. Note that the only thing the template needs filled in is the grave ID number, no need to use id= or a name, that's done automatically. Thanks! D.C. Meetup, Saturday, June 6, 2009The 7th DC Meetup dinner will be held this Saturday, June 6th, starting at 5 p.m. The event will be at Bertucci's, near George Washington University and the Foggy Bottom metro station. It will follow the Apps for Democracy open source event at GWU. For details or to RSVP if you haven't already, see Wikipedia:Meetup/DC 7. (You have received this announcement because your user page indicates that you live in Maryland, Virginia, or DC.) Volunteer opportunity in Bethesda, Thursday, July 16The Wikimedia Foundation will be conducting an all-day Academy at the National Institutes of Health, in Bethesda, Maryland, on Thursday, July 16. The team that will be teaching at the Academy, a mix of paid staff and volunteers, is looking for four more volunteers to be teaching assistants, providing one-to-one assistance in workshops whenever a workshop participant has a problem following the instructional directions. (We currently have two editors signed up as teaching assistants, and are looking for a total of six.) The NIH editing workshops are only for two hours, but volunteers are asked to meet the Wikimedia Foundation team at the hotel in Bethesda at about 7:15 a.m. (time to be finalized shortly) and to stay for the entire day, which ends at 4:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. (The full schedule can be found here.) The team is not necessarily looking for expert editors (though they are welcome), just people who can help novices who might get stuck when trying to do some basic things. If you've been an editor for at least 3 months, and have done at least 500 edits, you probably qualify. If you're interested, please send John Broughton an email. If you might be interested, but would like further information, please post a note on his user talk page, so that he can respond there, and others can see what was asked. We are currently looking for dedicated Wikipedians near the George Washington University and Georgetown University areas to serve as Campus Ambassadors, and I hope you might be interested. Volunteer Campus Ambassadors will provide face-to-face training and support for professors and students on Wikipedia-related skills, such as how to create new articles, how to add images, how the talk pages work, etc. If you're especially enthusiastic and know people on campus, you can set up Wikipedia-related student groups and organize "Welcome to Wikipedia" social events. More details about the Wikipedia Campus Ambassador role can be found at http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Campus_Ambassador. The estimated time commitment for this role is 3-5 hours a week, possibly slightly more at the very beginning and very end of the semester. The Wikimedia Foundation will hold a mandatory three-day training for all Campus Ambassadors in August, and will continue to stay in contact with and offer full support for the Campus Ambassadors throughout the academic semester. Please let us know if this is something that sounds interesting to you or if you know of any other Wikipedians near George Washington or Georgetown who could help out. Adrian Magson article, deletion trigger-happinessTo be honest I cannot understand why you want to delete an article which has been around for more than year and has already survived previous deletion debates. Perhaps you have a US-centric view point and assume that anything you haven't heard of is worthless. I notice from your user page that you admit that you have a particular affliction, that being that you are a "deletionist". I'm not sure you properly understand or are aware of how Wikipedia works or its history. It was never designed or intended to have only perfect, complete articles, indeed it is supposed to evolve and grow, piece by piece, edit by edit. If you want to get involved with a project to build an encyclopaedia which does not have incomplete pages or which is edited only by a select group, there are other projects I suggest you get involved in instead. Ultimately I moved on from wasting my time on edit wars in Wikipedia a long time ago, so feel free to delete if it makes you happy, I think Wikipedia has lost its way and I'm afraid for all its usefulness has been in a state of severe stagnation for several years, suffocated by anally retentive librarian type people with rather extreme Napoleon-complexs and too much time on their hands and I have more important things to be getting on with... This is not meant as a personal attack, it is just my point of view on a rather destructive and self-defeating attitude I feel a lot of regular editors of Wikipedia now have, I'm sure you are a very nice person in real life and I wish you all the best. --Hontogaichiban (talk) 20:16, 18 July 2010 (UTC) PS This article cannot be "promotional" as I have to affiliation with the subject. Did it occur to you that if you think it is promotional you could edit it so that no longer seemed promotional, I know this would take more work than just deleting it but.... --Hontogaichiban (talk) 20:41, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
Proposed AfD nomination of article - Aastha ChaudharyAny person cannot project himself/herself as notable. I am a fan of her. and i think her page should be created as she is notable enough for the same. This frequent nomination in deletion log of such a notable T.V Actress means that the concept of deletion without observing is going on. Please refer to the wikipedia pages links on this article. especially those related to the TV Serials done by the actress .i.e. Babul Ka Aangann Chootey Na and Aise Karo Naa Vidaa. There anybody with a normal observing power can find out her name and details. And, you are also not ready to treat Indya.com as reliable source, which is the most reliable source and people even cite their sources while in discussion in forums, etc. If thats so, the wikipedia policies then thanks a lot for such great policies. Kumioko (talk) 01:40, 10 September 2011 (UTC) Hello - deletion request for commentI'm not convinced you have performed "due diligence" on your recent deletion proposal Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Idol Minds as per Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion#Before_nominating_an_article_for_deletion - specifically "If there are verifiability, notability or other sourcing concerns, take reasonable steps to search for reliable sources." it seems to me to be trivial to find substantial coverage of the company using google, examples of which I have provided for you. It's even possible to show using the "find sources" tool on that page eg that news reports concerning that company have been publisher - even in cases where no product actually even exist - just on the basis of the companies (past) reputation therefor eg [1] [2] - I see that these are trivial but should be enough to give some indication to any self aware person that the company is of interest. I also responded on the talk page of the article after the initial "PROD", and have tried to request clarification from you on issues, as well as providing examples of coverage. It also doesn't seem like you have properly considered Wikipedia:Deletion_policy#Alternatives_to_deletion. You haven't given a response to my questions on the deletion discussion page. I don't consider simply re-linking to guidelines with no further clarification a suitable response after I have made a sincere attempt to discuss the issue with you, including requests for clarification. As such I will note my dissatisfaction on that page. If you can clarify further please do so. Thank you.Imgaril (talk) 21:08, 24 September 2011 (UTC) New Page Patrol survey

Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.
