I appreciate you adding the tournaments that Finsterwald, Nichols and Rosburg won early in their careers. Not being able to complete those PGA win templates was driving me crazy. Question regarding infoboxes

how do you make a field optional? Specifically for the Template:Infobox Golf Tournament, how do you make the "To-par" section optional (because it is not necessarily applicable to match play tournaments)? Supertigerman 22:10, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Assessment

I've starting assessing some golfer biographies for WikiProject Golf, so I wanted your opinion on the importance scale. Should we establish anything concrete? For example, 30 PGA Tour wins or 5 major championships automatically are of Top importance? Specifically, I wanted you opinion on Vijay Singh. I think he should be top. When I looked at other bios, I felt that they were underrated. I recently changed Ernie Els from Mid to High, though perhaps he should be Top. Phil Mickelson is currently High as well, but should he be Top too? Supertigerman 15:05, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps I do not understand the importance scale. Wikiproject Biography's importance scale has to with how important the people are and how likely those pages are to be visited. Some other scales define the Low to mean that those articles are not in need of improvement, and Top means that they need major revisions. How does WikiProject Golf define them? Personally, I think WP Bio's scale makes more sense because it literally means how important are these golfers in terms of their play and influence. Supertigerman 15:57, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Infobox Golf Tournament

Hey I think the aggregate, to-par score records, and defending champion lines should not have the nationalities of the players (the flags). Flags are simply eye candy and do not add to the infobox. Rather, I think the year in which the record was made should be written. For example, for the Masters, "-18 Tiger Woods (1997)" is what should be written in the to-par line. What do you think? PGA Tour Seasons

Great job on detailing every season on the Champions Tour. I think it would be great to have the same setup for the PGA Tour seasons, since as of now, there is only one (2006 PGA Tour). Undoubtedly this would be a tougher task given the number of seasons is much greater, but I think if we follow the same format as the Champions/Senior Tour years, it could be simpler. Surely if The Open Championship is to be inaccurately referred to as the "British Open", The Masters Tournament should be equally inaccurately referred to as the "US Masters"? LondonStatto 16:25, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

PGA Championship Match Play Era

Dale Arnett and I are thinking of changing the format of all the PGA Championship results in timelines from 1916-1957 in order to better reflect the match play format. Since you in most cases created the timelines, where did you get the information for the match play results? golfstats.com only dates back to 1958, and the official website only lists winners and runners up. http://www.pgamediaguide.com/pgachampionship_yearsearch_action.cfm has a description and bracket for each year although some of them are screwed up and I consulted newspaper accounts. Tewapack 20:56, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Instead of writing "R128", "R64", "R32", and "R16" since those simply inform the reader of how big the bracket was, how about writing the round in which the player lost in context of the tournament? Given that we have the brackets, we know which round the players lost in. I think it would be better to write "1R", "2R", "3R" and so on until QF, SF, and F (similar to the tennis timelines). The options:

In the context of the majors results tables, I think Option 1 or 2 above are more informative than Option 3. Since these PGA Ch. matchplay results are intermixed with stroke play results, I think Option 1 is best, I can live with Option 2, but I think Option 3 would be confusing because there is no way to distinguish field sizes in the table so no way to determine if "2R", for example, is good or bad finish.

Note that in 1957 they had playoffs of positions 3-8.

It doesn't hurt putting them in even for people who have only won a few times, it gives more information also, just leave it there.

Need your help

On the 1934 Masters Tournament page, there is one man, E. French, who I do not know anything about. All I know is that he shot 70-83=153 in the first two rounds and then withdrew. Just wanted to compliment you on keeping the wiki golf pages in check. I realize it's a lot of work, especially when we're talking about a site where so many people can come in and make changes ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous.

As for myself, I've decided to leave the task of the major wiki edits to others. Maybe every once in a while I might add or correct some little item as long as it is relevant to the particular wiki page. But that's it.

I have my own web-site, and since I'm the sole web-master, i can do as I wish - so that's fine with me.

Viking Classic

I was going to add a tournament infobox to the page but when I was trying to figure out the tournament scoring record I ran into a problem. Before 1986 the tournament was called the Magnolia State Classic. On pgatour.com and golfstats.com, they only document the winners of the Viking Classic back to 1986. Do you know if the Magnolia State Classic is some other tournament and someone got mixed up?

Help needed Don Iverson page

Tew, I need your help. I just did a page for Don Iverson. Two sources said that he had two official PGA Tour wins; however, the B.C. Open official site says that he is one of eight players to earn his first PGA Tour win at the BC Open in 1975. My question is this: Was his other win --at the 1972 Shreveport Open Classic-- an official PGA Tour money win? Thanks--Hokeman 18:02, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Do you think we should start a category for them? And if so what should it be called? I had no idea about that Washington Open page until just now. The old Hoke needs your help again

Tew, I'm currently working on DeWitt Weaver (golfer). Question 1: One of my sources says that his first PGA Tour win was at the U.S. Professional Match Play Championship; the other calls it Liggett and Myers Open Match Play Championship. I see you added more information to the Piccadilly Medal from that site. I did not know about it until now. How reliable is it? There are many red links for old PGA Tour events, maybe that site has them. I see that they have results for the 500 Festival Open, it shows winners in 1962, 64, 66 and 68. Do not delete UF Alumni category

If any person attends a university for over 2 total semesters, then they are considered an alumni. It does not matter if they graduated. Also Gator golfers did attend the University of Florida.
