CaCO3 SolubilityThe calculated values in the table were already there when I edited the article. My contribution was to improve the accompanying text so that it better explained both the method for calculating the table and the trends of the table. The explanation for the solution being basic when CO2 partial pressure is very low is given in the text. For the solution to come into equilibrium with extremely low ambient CO2 pressures requires that nearly all the CO2 escape from the solution and pass into the gas phase. This leaves the solution containing only Ca2+ and OH–, which is, by its nature, very basic. The conditions given in the low end of the table are extremely difficult to produce in the lab. I can't think of a way of producing a partial CO2 pressure of 10–12 atm, because I don't know of any CO2 scavenger that will produce so low a pressure. Karl Hahn (T) (C) 01:19, 10 May 2007 (UTC) |
