Second point- the vocabulary you added to the page perhaps needs some edits- sometimes these online pages get things wrong. For example, palena isn't rain. Rain is more like belaka, bvlaka (v schwa) with pelaka, pvlaka devoiced (the current trend), sky wa:gun, not -ul, again without voicing wakun- the -un is locative, and this term seems etymologically related to the terms fóka, háokà for 'cloud'. Bay, inlet ushipin is interesting- ushsha relates to the head of a bay, up a creek, back end of a cave, etc. But -ipin? Maybe from -u:pai 'towards, in the direction of' plus following -n locative? Also yasála, jesæla sáeskin, sæskin pusáki There are some phonological environments where there is ambiguity between sh and s, and I've seen reports of switching in other environments relative to what was put down in the Yahga Straits dialect. So maybe ok, but yvshvla/yeshela for dog was the 19th C. general spelling, and pushaki for fire. svskin, siskin had an alternate shishkin. Lastly, there are now online a number of original documents in Yahgan- texts, grammatical treatments, etc. Heck, even the dictionary may be online soon. So do you think these would make good links on the page? Proto Tibeto-BurmanThe issue for me is that I do not think it is write to present Matisoff 2003 as 'proto-Tibeto-Burman' that book is merely the opinions of one man. And if you read the reviews of the book you will see that they are generally controversial and not well supported opinions. My issue with the 'sound change' section is that normally in historical linguistics a sound change is a change from something specific into something else specific, like 'Grimm's law'. Simply saying that clusters simplify, then turn to glottal stops, then turn to nothing, is either so obvious it means nothing or is a religious belief about what is inevitable. In either case, not what is normally meant by 'sound change'. Tibetologist (talk) 21:42, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

First of all Happy New Year, I wish you and your family all the best for 2011 and that the minorized and endangered languages will be able to survive and grow as long as possible. I hope you will forgive this intrusion. I have noticed while leaving messages to GerardM. in Meta that you seem to show a keen interest on languages, supporting some of them to get out of the incubator, so I though that you would appreciate to know what our association will plan to do in March. The Catalan Viquipèdia will be celebrating its 10th birthday soon (http://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viquip%C3%A8dia:10_anys_de_la_Viquip%C3%A8dia) and we are planning to have some sessions directed towards getting some wikipedias out of the incubator and we would really appreciate at least your advice, at best your participation (though I guess Europe might be a bit far... as is America to me right now...): http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Teamwork_of_projects_in_languages_with_singular_status. Our association also has tried to become a Chapter, to no avail until now, but since Catalan has no state, our demand has not been accepted so far; if you think that our cause is just and that minorized or stateless languages deserve to have a Chapter of their own, you can stick this template on your userpage Wikimedia CAT and/or sign the Members and Supporters list accessible via the link in the template. Again, my best wishes for 2011. Take care and let's hope all the world languages will live long! Claudi/Capsot (talk) 23:01, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
AutopatrolledHello, this is just to let you know that I have granted you the "autopatrolled" permission. This won't affect your editing, it just automatically marks any page you create as patrolled, benefiting new page patrollers. Please remember:
QiandongbeiThere're no such a language or dialect called “Qiandongbei”. ISO639[hea] is the “Bei” patois of “Qiandong” dialect; and ISO639[hmd] is the Diandongbei sub-dialect. ––虞海 (Yú Hǎi) ✍ 06:19, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
File:Italian1346.gifHi. File:Italian1346.gif has areas in different colors, but there is no explanation as to what they mean. Perhaps you could add some sort of explanation? (I've also asked for an explanation at Talk:Italian_American#Unexplained_File:Italian1346.gif. Thanks much. Hi! It seems you recently created an unreferenced biography of a living person: Jerold A. Edmondson. The community has decided that all new biographies of living persons must contain a reliable source that supports at least one statement made about the person in the article as per our verifiability policy. Please add references as soon as possible. Thanks! --LaraBot (talk) 00:10, 7 May 2011 (UTC)
New Page Patrol survey
Hi, You added Collins (1983), where East Central Maluku consists of a single branch, East Seram, which consists of a single branch, Nunusaku. I'm wondering if there's an error there. — kwami (talk) 04:29, 8 November 2011 (UTC) {{tk-lang-stub}}Greetings! Could you also confirm which ISO codes correspond to her Hmong? And does she present that as one language, or as a branch of Hmongic which is just not illustrated at Hmongic languages? I'm trying to straighten out the confusion over what "Hmong" and "Miao" are in our articles. Thanks, 10:48, 2 January 2012 (UTC) Disambiguation link notificationHi. When you recently edited Chinatown, Mexicali, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Ensenada (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject. When you do that, the page is separated from its history. There is a "move" tab at the top of the page that is use for moving articles. If that does not work for you, you can ask me or some other admin to override whatever is blocking the move. (If you recall any other articles you moved this way, please let me know. There is some work involved in merging the page histories, and the longer we wait, the worse it gets.) Thanks, — kwami (talk) 06:05, 4 February 2012 (UTC) P.S. Matisoff (2001) supposedly mentions Raojia & Pa Na languages in the West Hmongic family. Do you know anything about this? I'm not coming up with anything (I don't have access to the article), and it would be nice to have at least some comment identifying what these are. — kwami (talk) 06:18, 4 February 2012 (UTC) Kaili CountyHi, Steve. I noticed that a redirect you created, Kaili County, actually redirects back to itself. I presume this wasn't intentional, and I tried to figure out a better target, but I haven't been able to identify one. Just wanted to let you know. Thanks. – Wdchk (talk) 17:14, 4 February 2012 (UTC) Speedy deletion nomination of Kaili County
A tag has been placed on Kaili County requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. M D Potter. Min Zhuang language, for example, which you note was first described in SIL, and so should recognize in Ethnologue (they have the same refs you do). Also listing the name of the language twice in the info box (Min Zhuang, AKA Min Zhuang) is redundant. — kwami (talk) 16:18, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
Zhuang languagesI have appreciated many of your contributions. However a number of your recent edits to the Zhuang languages page seem incorrect. For example making Dejing Zhuang and Yang Zhuang the same. The 13 'dialects' given represent the divisions of the 1950's and 1970's surveys summarised in Zhang (1999). However the Ethnologue divisions are based on later surveys and in a number of cases divide Zhuang up into dialects quite differently. Would you mind looking over the links for the last three and checking to see if the same thing is being talked about.Thank-youJohnkn63 (talk) 07:24, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
