To Snowman, for keeping me honest, and trying to balance between faithfulness to sources, accessability to the general populace, and good prose. Well done, it was much appreciated. Cheers, Casliber (talk·contribs) 04:27, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Been expanding and cleaning up the above article, and given your interest in things parrot and aviculture related I was wondering if you could help with a few points.
In the section on aviculture, I summarised a point about feather plucking and toys, which seemed to suggest that providing toys helped reduce this destructive behaviour. Thing is, I went to try and check this and the source I found suggested many possible reasosn for feather plucking. [1]. Can you suggest a good source to use for this aspect of aviculture? I would have imagined that toys are important anyway (with bright birds), but my particular sources are more concerned with wild birds. Sabine's Sunbirdtalk05:38, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I changed the taxobox image from the one you added. The Sydney image was cool from a "Look it's sydney" point of view, but the featured image had more of the bird which is what you want for the taxobox. Cheers. Sabine's Sunbirdtalk05:38, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it showed the yellow crest well, and made the point that that cockatoos are associated with Australia, and it was not an individual species page anyway. I think that the infobox image, should at least show a cockatoo with a prominent crest rather than the small crest of the bird you put in the infobox, which also looks like it could be in a zoo because of the lack of background and the artificial looking stump it is perched on. There is no details in the image description about where the image was taken, which is disappointing. The Long-billed Corela image is on the species page anyway, and it is a bit repetitive seeing the same pictures on different pages. The Long-billed Corela image is good for showing the species, but I think that it is not ideal in the infobox of the cockatoo family page. I am sure that it is possible to find an image that looks into the page for the lead image in the infobox. Snowman (talk) 10:07, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I can place the image as being in the suburb of potts point right near Garden island navy base. I lived within a few blocks of here for many years. (Sydney's inner eastern suburbs). Great pic. Cheers, Casliber (talk·contribs) 11:00, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The sandstone buildings in front of the balcony on the ground are the navy buildings and the greenery between the Opera Hse and the balcony is the Domain/Royal Botanic Gardens, Cheers, Casliber (talk·contribs) 11:02, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There are a variety of pictures from the same balcony on flickr, and perhaps with more views you can orientate better. If you are sure, please add something about the locality to the image description on commons. Can you do geo coordinates too? It would be difficult to find a photograph that is more Australian, unless a group of Kangaroos happened to be hoping along the road below at the same time. Snowman (talk) 11:06, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It would be a useful image to have in the section on humans and cockatoos - urban cockatoos. But the cockatoo was too small in the picture and scrunched up, which to my mind made it unsuitable for the taxobox image. As for the crest, well, arguably more species don't have a massive crest. But I don't really mind, I just think the photo in the taxobox should show moar bird. Sabine's Sunbirdtalk19:39, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There are several Sulphur-crested Cockatoo photographs from the same balcony on commons and some have the cockatoo nearer to the camera and hence larger. Snowman (talk) 20:04, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I can find it almost to the building on Google Earth - teh coords are 33°51'57.21"S Lat and long 151°13'30.65"E - I can see the L shaped building behind and below the cocky. I am just trying to figure out a screen capture. If you type in "Garden Island" in Sydney on Google earth you are less than a block away. Cheers, Casliber (talk·contribs) 13:19, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The image was geo tagged automatically by the camera, so you can see exactly what the camera recorded the location to be. It was taken about 40 miles east of Brisbane is a small town called Crows Nest, according to the camera geo tagging. To outsiders the location descriptions in the article are difficult to follow and perhaps the page would benefit from a map. Snowman (talk) 14:48, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ditto - I used the wrong adjective, and meant meant global pan-religious not unitarian (i.e. uniting church), now for alot of reversions/amendations...Cheers, Casliber (talk·contribs) 23:24, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
On a slightly different topic, the correct way to change the name of a page where the move is controversial is to start a move discussion and see if a consensus forms. Snowman (talk) 10:43, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
On 3 January, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Nestoridae, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.
Thank you for providing a truthful summary of events regarding the Major depressive disorder FAC in the Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Mattisse 3 opened by the FAC group. I appreciate that you took the time to present a true version versus the lynch mob mentality pervading there. I am beholden to to for you clear, unemotional version of events and your kind words about me. You are a genuinely good person and it gives me faith in humanity that you exist. My very best wishes, —Mattisse (Talk) 18:28, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Someone told me this riddle a long time ago: if a cleaner was using a noisy vac in the corridor outside an office, some will say; "You are too noisy, will you work quietly please?" and some will say; "Excuse me; do you mind if I shut the door?" Snowman (talk) 20:42, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
commons rename temp's
A fast question that you may be able to answer: I recently requested the renaming of a file on commons here, using a template I had seen someone use elsewhere for a file with some identification issues. I then, however, noticed you used a different template here. I'm sure I could find the answer somewhere, but it would probably take a fair deal of surfing around. Do you know what difference there is between the two temp's, and if one is better than the other in this type of situations? Following the currasow you asked about on bird talk, I did a fast check and found three others with issues (this is a Crax alector, this is a male Crax blumenbachii, and this is a female Crax daubentoni). • Rabo³ • 02:21, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Both will work, and I have used both. This is how is seems to me:
1. {{rename|name.jpg|reason}}: This can be used, but a bot comes along and then changes it to 2 below, because it is programmed to start the rename process only if certain people added it.
2. {{rename needs confirmation|name.jpg|reason}} Someone who is a trusted user or an administrator changes it to 1, and because the bot knowns who added it, the bot starts the rename process when it finds 1 (written by a person on the bots list) on a page. and so 2 can be quicker. " Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/File:MasshouseBirminghampromo.JPG"
When you transcluded this into the AFD log we got treated to a slideshow. If you're trying to get this image deleted try WP:FFD. If it's something else you're trying to do then maybe I can help. --Ron Ritzman (talk) 00:17, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
New Guinea is in the center of the speciation, and there have been so many different invasions there that you have true phylogeographic nightmare at your hands there. My next project is to make a global tree with fossils records etc in it, using current insights. -- Kim van der Lindeat venus23:24, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you
Once again I thank you for being able to get a point across when I was unable to do so. It is like the edit summary "Bah" that you were able to explain. In this case, I see that the Arbitration Committee did ask him to remove his signature, yet part of the RFC against me was that I asked him if he would remove it if elected. Thank you for understanding my point of view. Regards, —Mattisse (Talk) 23:14, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed you reverted my edit to the lead image for Crimson Rosella because part of the tail was obscured. What do you think of this image as a replacement for the lead (which is a bit on the small side and somewhat uninspiring background) --Fir000210:23, 18 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure that it's a good idea to use an image of Zebra Dove in the Peaceful taxobox, when the article informs that all three are now good species. Looks rather different too (to me anyway!) I can upload a better image if required. Avicedatalk18:08, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed it following your doubting. I do not know much about these birds; however, it was identified as a Peaceful Dove on the WP:Birds talk page. Please make a contribution to bird 118 giving your opinion. The wiki has few images of these birds and not many are very good. It will be great to see more images of these doves. I realize that you meant no harm, but I suggest you exercise much greater reluctance when tempted to correct others' spelling in Talk space, especially since you might be as wrong as you were in this case. Talk page guidelines argue quite clearly against such an edit. --Scray (talk) 23:46, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The issue being the spelling I changed from "judgment" to "judgement". Actually the first line of he the wiki article "judgement" says "The term judgment (BE and AE)[1] or judgement (BE) generally refers to the considered evaluation of evidence in the formation of making a decision. The term has three distinct uses:". Actually, I think my change can be justified as Wikipedia:Refactoring talk pages, but if you want to use only the US spelling (which look odd to UK readers) that is up to you. Snowman (talk) 09:40, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The quote you provided from judgment indicates that "judgment" is also a BE spelling (you might not agree, but it's cited in the article)
If you can point out the part of Wikipedia:Refactoring talk pages that justifies editing others' comments to your regionally-preferred spelling, I'm listening. I don't think you'll find it. Without such justification, this is an inconsiderate edit, and I just thought you should know that's how it feels to this recipient - that's all. --Scray (talk) 11:47, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please be aware that I was not aware that this word had a different US spelling. I see that you have changed it back with this edit here, and I have nothing else to add at this juncture. Snowman (talk) 13:55, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
