Baginton

Hi, thank you for the contact.

I stumbled across the "Baginton" article and thought I'd give it a helping hand and add a few of the more advanced features of Wikipedia.

With regards to the infobox and having an image - the infoboxes for UK (or at least English) places are designed to have a map showing the location of the settlement. However, I do not know the coordinates for this village to generate the map.

Pit-yacker is a user with what appears an extensive knowledge and know-how to obtain the precise coordinates fot the map to appear. I would recommend contacting him and I'm sure he'd be obliged to help.

I set up a Gallery for the article to aid in the flowing of text and stop picture/white space conflict. Given there is only a little text in the article for now, images are almost certainly best placed there.

With regards to contributing to UK place articles, there are a set of standard headings which are meant to be adopted across Wikipedia to start achieving some kind of consistency. For these reasons I added a number of these to the Baginton article. These standard heading guidelines are found here: I find them most useful.

Unfortunately, I doubt it would help the farm. However, the amount of press it gets in local papers and in local news programmes should generate some interest. I paid visit recently myself and I've added my support to keep it open. - Erebus555 12:51, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Infobox Map

Hi Snowman! Thanks for the contact.

You may be interested to know that there are plans (in the latter stages) to roll out a UK place infobox. This should happen in the next week(s?) or so.

These infoboxes will be more userfriendly and should solve any inputting problems you may have been having. I'd hang on for a little while and watch for the release. Does that help? Jhamez84 11:16, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

This is worth knowing; I will return to the Scottish infoboxes after a few weeks after the release. It is putting a dot on the map that is difficult in Scotland, because there are only about 45 Scottish place dots to choose from. Snowman 11:23, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Yes the co-ordinate system has proven to be the domain of the experts, but this should change very soon. I think there will still be a Scotland map (as opposed to a UK wide map), but setting the pointer will use a new system (so I am told). I'll keep you posted! Jhamez84 11:34, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

rating of bird species

Hi! I notice you've been re-rating several bird articles, particularly species. While there is no offical scale that's been set in stone for rating their importance, for the most part species have been assigned low importance ratings except in the cases of extremely common or important species (ones that are either iconic, such as Bald Egale, ubiquitous, such as the Rock Pigeon, or otherwise super famous like the Dodo). I'm curious as to your rational for upgrading species Great Frigatebird, Elfin Wood warbler and Montagu's Harrier. I think that the Great Frigatebird and the Montagu's Harrier are rather iconic so I have increased them on the importance scale from low to mid. The Great Frigatebird have a wide range, incredible flying bird, and were of interest to Darwin on Galopagus, I vaguely recall. Elfin Wood Warbler is a vunerable species, and I feel that makes a differnce, so I increased its status from low to mid. Perhaps you would like to help to start Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#Aviculture, which I hope gets formed soon. Snowman 11:20, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Skeleton Diagram

Hi Snowman. The skeleton diagram is more a cartoon than anything else, it is by no means anatomically accurate or a serious medical diagram. As you suggest Grays is far superior at that as is Netter, both of which have their own tradditions for visual placement of body parts. At present it is orphaned but will either be part of an article for a technical drawing related page or will be deleted as there is currently no requirement for it. Thanks for your comments though, I will update the image description over the next day or so to point out that despite the deceptive title it is not infact an anatomical diagram in any sense. Ta. Reverting on Vitamin C

The link you cited (WP:MoS) isn't "policiy"; it's only a guideline, which should only be taken lightly. However, Wikipedia:Ignore all rules, which implicitly states "If the rules prevent you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia, ignore them", is policy, so I think if I'm going to heed any sort of rule, it'll be that one. Along with Wikipedia:Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and meta:Don't be a dick.

I think that there may be a more polite way of saying that. Autosize images can be viewed according to the settings on a users computer. Larger pictures take longer to load and not everyone has a fast internet connection. Guidlines are to make the wiki uniform and easier to read. I think that the atherosclerosis image is too small to read the small detail, and I see no reason for the image of the goat to be large or for it to have such a long caption. Actually, in-the-round, I think my changes were an improvement, but as I have not worked on the page much, I will leave the size of the images on that page to others. btw.
