Welcome!
Hi Shreshth91/Archive1, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thanks for your contributions to the coolest online encyclopedia I know of =). I sure hope you stick around; we're always in need of more people to create new articles and improve the ones we already have. You'll probably find it easiest to start with a tutorial of how the wikipedia works, and you can test stuff for yourself in the sandbox. When you're contributing, you'll probably find the manual of style to be helpful, and you'll also want to remember a couple important guidelines. First, write from a neutral point of view, second, be bold in editing pages, and third, use wikiquette. Those are probably the most important ones, and you can take a look at some others at the policies and guidelines page. You might also be interested in how to write a great article and possibly adding some images to your articles.
Be sure to get involved in the community – you can contact me at my talk page if you have any questions, and you can check out the village pump, where lots of wikipedians hang out and discuss things. If you're looking for something to do, check out the community portal. And whenever you ask a question or post something on a talk page, be sure to sign your name by typing ~~~~.
Again, welcome! It's great to have you. Happy editing! --Spangineer(háblame) June 29, 2005 15:16 (UTC)
Templates
You're welcome =). As for the welcome message, I type it out every time I put it on someone's page. Just kidding—actually, what I have is a template. Take a look at User:Spangineer/welcome. Every time I welcome someone, I want the code from that page to show up on their talk page. So I use the following wikisyntax on their talk pages: {{subst:User:Spangineer/welcome}} --~~~~. That copies the text from that page and puts it in the page I'm editing, and adds my signature. That makes it pretty quick and simple, and helps me be able to welcome alot of people without too much effort. I hope the links are helpful, and if you need anything, let me know! Also, you might be interested in the Notice board for India-related topics – that's where a bunch of people keep track of the work that's being done on India related topics. See you around! --Spangineer(háblame) June 30, 2005 14:39 (UTC)
Oh, and thanks alot for your vote of support for my nomination for adminship! I appreciate it. --Spangineer(háblame) June 30, 2005 15:39 (UTC)
I never log out unless I'm using a computer that I don't have control over (i.e. friend's house, library, etc.). It just makes life easier, since I use wikipedia so much =). And yeah, if you turn off your computer, wikipedia will still remember you when you turn it on again and get back online. --Spangineer(háblame) June 30, 2005 15:55 (UTC)
India related links
Hi! Thought you might be interested in some India links:
I reverted your work on Blink (book) because it seemed a lot like the writing style they use on book jackets, and because it's far better to have a stub that gets to the point than a longer article that doesn't. For instance: "Why are some people instinctive decision makers? How do we get to know a man's personality just by looking at his face? The author explains...." This takes up two sentences just to add a few small details to what was already stated in less than one sentence: "how we make snap judgments based on small amounts of information".
Hello, Shreshth91. I'm getting back to you on that comment about the jokebook. Sure, I wouldn't mind a little help (although I might make corrections afterwards). Even though I haven't gone through it yet, I've got categories set up for it, which I'll include and explain below:
1. One- and Two-liners (short jokes)
2. Jewish Jokes (there are a lot of these, which I actually put into another wikibooks jokebook called "Jewish Jokes")
3. Ethnic jokes (these can be with Jews, but they're mostly multi-ethnic; i.e. an American, an Englishman, and a Frenchman...)
4. Put-downs (quick retorts and comebacks)
5. Shaggy dog stories (jokes with a big build-up and then a sudden let-down; i.e. dragging it out to a tiny, little climax)
6. Quotes (pretty self-explanatory)
7. Historical/ anecdotal jokes (either jokesw which I've cited as coming from historical sources or personal anecdotes)
8. Tables turned jokes (sudden switch of perspective)
9. Word play (puns, etc.)
10. Bawdy jokes (adult or inappropriate humor)
It depends on the parameters: Mawsynram officialy has the world's heaviest average, but c'punji has the highest rainfall in a year and in a calendar month. The necessary text is present in the article. yeah, and Mawsynram does not have an official IMD weather station. =Nichalp«Talk»= 13:56, July 14, 2005 (UTC)
Hello! I've noticed your past interest in Wikipedia:Mind Benders and wanted to let you know that round one is now officially open! Consisting of ten challenging, puzzling questions, it is sure to be tons of WikiFun! In addition, take a look at all 9 of our great artistic entries and vote for one of them! Hope to see you there! Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk 15:49, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the Star
The summaries were really no trouble at all, they were a pleasure. Thank you for your kind recognition. CronoDroid
Hello, Shreshth91/Archive1. Thank you for submitting an entry to the pre-round and/or participating in round one of WP:MIND. I sincerly hope you enjoyed it. Round Two, which I have made a bit more difficult than round one, will open at approximately 2 PM EST, Sunday, July 24. In addition, the voting for pre-round has also been extended until the end of round two. I hope to see you at Round Two, so prepare for some WikIFun!!! Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk 17:12, 23 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't completely sure about the copyright violation, but I nominated it for VfD because it isn't an encyclopedic entry. If you follow the link on the article's page to it's VfD page, you'll see my entry there as well. Also, someone linked a wiki place for lyrics (I think it's called wikilyrics) if you're interested in that sort of thing. Cheers. --DNicholls03:42, 25 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
My RfA
Thank you for the support in my RfA! Thunderbrand 15:26, July 31, 2005 (UTC)
Welcomin'
Thanks for the welcome, though I've been around long enough *really* not to need one any more. I guess I'll have to write something on my user page to show that. --zippedmartin16:19, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Shreshth. Good of you to welcome me on wiki. I checked out your user page. I'm an alumnus of DPS R.K. Puram myself.. did all of my primary education from DPS actually (East of Kailash, Vasant Vihar and then RKP). I passed out way back in 1996.back Used to keep going back to school till a few years ago for EXUN and everything, but haven't been in a while now. Have good memories of that place. Cheers! Months of Experience
Just to let you know, I've been on Wikipedia, counting my time as an IP, since January 1, 2004. I have 18 months of experience. I know I don't have 2,000 edits, but still. --WikiFan04Talk 16:58, 31 Jul 2005 (CDT)
Thanks
Thank you for your vote of support on my recent RfA. I was quite surprised by the amount of support I received, and wish to extend my thanks to you for taking the time to support my nomination for adminship. -- Longhair | Talk12:20, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks
Thanks for the Welcome Message. I'll try to make this encyclopedia better by putting in valuable articles :).
I'm still figuring how to get certain things done... I hope I'll be able to learn them soon.
Oh, and now I have to apologize - I was trying to edit my talk page (which had your template message on it) and I wound up editing your template instead! I edited your template back to how it was - but I'm sorry for the mistake. --joveis20:57, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for supporting my recent RfA. I was surprised and humbled by the number of positives votes. I'll be monitoring RfA regularly from now on and will look for a chance to "pay it forward". Cheers, --MarkSweep01:36, 7 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks!
Thanks for the welcome! :-)
Btw, how do you make those custom sigs? Do you copy and paste the sig or do you use some sorta shortcut? Do let me know. :P
I feel the tag is still applicable. I want the Constitution of India to be a FA. The US constitution is a FA. Why don't you take ideas from it and expand the article. Ae you interested in featuring the article? You'll have to devote a lot of your resources to make it a FA. =Nichalp«Talk»= 19:01, August 13, 2005 (UTC)
Hi, I'd like to thank you for your support on my recent RfA. I will do my very best to help keep Wikipedia running smoothly and to ensure that your confidence in me was not misplaced. Thanks again! -Loren01:00, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I have taken care for all the four thanks from you. And, I said “amazing” as in so short time you have done so many things on wikipedia. --Bhadani13:15, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Reply regarding Hindi language template hi-1
Dear Shresh,
I just entered a reply to your most recent question at:
Please see Fixing of h-4 tag, and other changes. Thanks for your patience with all of this! Hopefully the end product is now better than what we started with! :-) I've now messaged Nichalp asking him if he could complete the updating of the hi-4 tag, as the structural format of the tag is now fixed. Again, kripya mera dhost. -Scott P. 13:16:06, 2005-08-21 (UTC)
Re:Thanks
Sorry about the 4 thanks. My browser was malfunctioning and I couldn't see the edits. So I edited it 4 times in vain desperation...--May the Force be with you! Shreshth91($ |-| r 3 $ |-| t |-|) 07:16, 19 August 2005 (UTC)
Don't worry about it, man. I was just kidding : ). I thought it was a joke myself, so that's why I responded with "you're welcome" four times. It's alright, because I now about having a piece of crap for a computer...which I'm on right now. Thanks for the message. : ) Take care, D. J. Bracey(talk)04:48, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hindi
Delhiwala asking a Bombaywalla on correct Hindi?! I had the impression that Delhi people speak shuddh Hindi. We speak a really corrupted version -- the bollywood style, not the hi-funda Shushma Swaraj style. I'm not sure what to write for the missing hi-4 tag, though I corrected a minor error in the rest.
I also stole the message link from your page. And, I will keep it there as a souvenir from you. Thank you dear Amazing. --Bhadani15:35, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hi,
I was in the process of making my talk page and user page look more colourful (in delhi lingo more dinchak !) than plain black letters so gave it a upgrade....
Any probs??
Also fix ur browswer there seems to a prob there i got ur note 4 times :)
Hi. I could not accept the nomination — I was the one who nominated myself :) but its ok, I appreciate your vote, nonetheless. Journalist16:51, 20 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Shreshth91! Thanks for coming out to my recent RFA. I'm now an administrator, and I wanted to thank you for your honesty and steadfastness during the candidacy. If you ever need me, feel free to leave a message on my talk page. Happy editing, and I'll see you around the Wiki! --HappyCamper12:16, 25 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for voting for me in RFB. :) The text on your user page was a little ambiguous, and I presumed that it was sometime soon. I decided to wish you anyways before you become a Wikipedia:Missing Wikipedian. Too bad you have to go, I was hoping you'd do something to Delhi & New Delhi so that it would become a Featured Article. (Mumbai & Chennai are FAs, & I thought some city rivalries could be helpful ;) ) =Nichalp«Talk»= 14:22, September 2, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for your support
Hi, just a quick note to thank you for your support on my RfA. I was pleased to see so much support, especially from people such as you who I do not know very well, if at all. Now that I am an administrator I will do my best to please the community’s expectations. Best regards, Sam Hocevar17:28, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Shreshth: Thanks for support and your confidence in me in my recent RFB nomination. I'm now WP's newest bureaucrat. :) Regards, and may the Force and light sabres be with you. PS Darthy's great isn't he? =Nichalp«Talk»= 19:45, September 6, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the wishes. You must be liking civics a lot. Hope to see a FA from you someday. Anything you can muster about High Courts? Want to feature it soon. =Nichalp«Talk»= 14:46, September 7, 2005 (UTC)
I'll be featuring Bhutan on FAC. Its almost over (pending refs and images). Take a look at the page. I hope to complete before midnight. =Nichalp«Talk»= 14:59, September 7, 2005 (UTC)
Hopefully soon; I'm prepared to close Round Two and have the one unanswered question be carried over. Deryck and I just to need to write Round Three. Hopefully it'll be open by Monday next week. Thanks! Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk 23:30, 7 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Gift
Thanks for the gift. PS I've renamed the page FYI the principles has now been retitled as Principles. Well done. Two things you'll need. The source of your additions, and one fundamental right was repealed... I think it was the "Right to Property". Could you check it out? For that I award you with a light saber. =Nichalp«Talk»= 06:16, September 13, 2005 (UTC)
