Why remove the gallery?

Hi Sarah! I was wondering why you removed the photo gallery from the article on the Sydney Opera House. I believe it really gives the article something extra, and it would be quite preposterous to have all the images on there own, and the are really descriptive, beautiful images of the Opera House. Well, in that case let me thank you for your support. That was a lovely thing to say, even if I did fish for it somewhat! In all seriousness, and with no disrespect to the individual opposers, I wonder if the RfA process may need a re-examination? I feel like I'm on the rack here... which was the fear that held me back from accepting the nom in the first place. Bainer, could you please look at User:- 40, User:- 41 and User:- 42? They're User:Pnatt socks/impersonators. Yeah, I noticed those, and figured they were all socks of each other, although I didn't know who the puppeteer was. Question for Sarah

Hi Sarah, I have questions about Wikisource and thought maybe you could help or route me to somebody who could. I think I put things in articles that maybe were supposed to go in Wikisource.

Also, does a person have to have a Wiki article in order to be put on a list? I added an article yesterday of a female bodybuilder who won a national title in 1981, but it might not be notable enough to qualify for a regular article. I added her to a list because I know she was ranked and listed in Joe Weider's mags in the 80s.

In general I am somewhat confused about notability when presenting new articles, especially bios. I spent yesterday getting aquainted with the bio procedure and I have a better idea now of the protocol, but I'm still confused on some points. For example, there is an article David C. Lane that seems like it needs to be more Wikied. Is this a good example? On the other hand, I added an article Ariel Tomioka who is notable in certain communities and she is an author, but I can't find much bio on her, so she may not qualify as notable. Copyright owner request to remove image from Wikipedia

New question... The image is at "Cessna 414" in the search box. It used to be on Keith Green also, 'til I removed it on request of copyright owner (image owner?). I obtained permission for its use on Wikipedia under GFDL (and sent evidence of approval via email to permissions@wikipedia), sent him the links where used, and now her wants 'em completely removed because it might hurt his business. And he wants to make sure it's removed. To use incorrect grammar, "Do I gotta comply?" The image is a 3-dimensional illustration of a Cessna 414 airplane. I completely trust your assessment of articles. Your editing style is impressive. Editing is tedious work and I admire this talent you have.

Hi Sarah (and Samir :) ). Nah, i'm not sure how that stayed there: i put it there ages ago on the template (for next year), and I thought i removed it.. :P Again: ur comments are useful. I'll be at Monash Clayton next year for a kinda weird experience to do with VCAL and VCE the year after.. I'll be doing 3 days at school (home :) ), 1 day Monash and 1 day at Work.. I am sorry for the loss of Steve Irwin. He was very popular with me and my family. This is a quite a loss. We are sad about this, and we will miss him.

I have a question. What pages do you suggest I work on to help Wikipedia with my limited skills at this time. I have noticed that the "pages needing attention" section is vast. It seems there is so much work to do. Is there a section for newbies to work on minor edits, etc., or a category with missing birth dates? I could search and add information like that. Any suggestions?

Hi Sarah, first thanks for your edits at the STD template talk page. You were far better at communicating with a new contributor than I was (I got quite frustrated with him yesterday).

UTIs -> I agree with you the STD template. Like you say, the bulk of UTI's are not sexually transmitted. The most recent update with the CDC's report on STDs talks about urethritis and cervicitis (which are definitely primarily sexually transmitted) but not on UTI's per se. I agree with you that it should probably be removed.

Dangerous drugs -> It's hazy here. The official rule is that all opiates must be counted and signed by some mechanism. It used to be that all opiates were locked in a dangerous drug cupboard and were counted and countersigned (and it still is like that on the older wards). Now, on the newer wards, they have these infernal automated drug dispensing units that count and dispense all drugs removed. For these, opiates are dispensed just like any other drug, as every drug is counted by the system, and an "electronic signature" is sent to the pharmacy. Our nurses then pop the meds (including opiates) onto the trolleys for dispensing at their leisure.

UTI/STD template

i think the article is flawed then, allthough im sure UTIs are not exclusively trasmitted sexually, they can be. questions for you

Hello Sarah. Can you tell me the proper way, or format, for listing books on biography pages according to Wikipedia standards? I have been editing Richard Bach and other bios. There is a lot of work to do on here--for sure. I've been using your "random article technique" and it is fun.

I'm trying to make improvements to articles based on guidelines I have received from Tyrenius, plus I've been studying the manual of style. But I can't find how to list books. I'm sure it is written someplace, but I need new glasses, so my eyes are buggy.

Also, is there a guideline for making proper editing notes? I have noticed that people use the term "style edit" and I don't understand when or how to use that term. You always make good comments, so I would like to follow your example. Any tips?

Hmmm, that can vary, as people drop out (occasionally quite literally!) of the round, it can get cheaper as well. It brings to mind our Scottish expression (for a stingy person) "First out of the taxi, last up to the bar"; not something I have ever been accused of (at least not to my face). I may be relocating to California at some point, although it is uncertain just now. Not such a great beer culture there as here or Ireland, but not as bad either as some folks here believe. Merging categories

Hello - well done on your Adminship. I was wondering whether as an admin you would be able to help me - I'm trying to merge the categories Category:Towns in New South Wales and Category:Villages in New South Wales. There is no noticeable difference between these two and no criteria for establishing a place in one or the other. I have placed up a notice of merger for about a month and have had one positive reply and no objections. quick question

Sarah, when listing books on bio pages, how do I list a book that has more than one ISBN number? For example, on the article Hal Higdon, he had a book published in 1975 but it was re-released in 1999. Now the same book has two different ISBN numbers. Which one do I use? Request for undeletion

I think the Robin Ball entry should be undeleted, as I describe in my talk page. It was nominated for speedy deletion, which I think is inappropriate: cf Wikipedia:Deletion of vanity articles: "Only those articles where there is no plausible assertion of importance should be considered for Wikipedia:Speedy deletion." Dupas expansion

Hi Sarah. A few weeks back you took an interest in the article on Peter Dupas. I've done a fair bit of work tonight and expanded on this monsters article. If you can stomach his life story, would you mind taking a quick glance and suggest where the article may be lacking if you have time? Tread carefully around the crimelibrary.com library article on Dupas. I've found them highly unreliable compared to more reliable sources such as news reports - crimelibrary.com tends to have information on Dupas I can't find anywhere else, and dates there are often incorrect. I've just found a heap more on Dupas, so perhaps leave that quick review for a few days. This character has a lot to answer for and it's going to take a while to get it all into the article. For the code on my aussie flag usage, view the content of User:Longhair/Header. Good to see your admin bit doing it's work also. I spent a good part of today on this article. I managed to source some documents on Dupas from the 70's and have now added a great deal of information on his earlier life and other uncharged crimes on women. Problem is, when you spend so much time looking at the one subject, things tend to blur into one big mess :/ Pick and pick away at my work if your time will allow. Another set of eyes is always a good thing. I think the article is about 85% complete for now. Dupas won't ever see the light of day again, so hopefully there won't be much more information to add apart from what I've already found and have here with me and his court appearances to come. Anti-Americanism?

It is not clear to me why you have created so much red tape over one short article. It appears as if you are intentionally complicating things. The subject I wrote about is published and very well known in the engineering field. She is identified on numerous webpages and websites. She has even worked with leaders of the transport bureaus in all of Australia. (Please review the first cited government report from the article you abruptly removed and locked if you have any questions.) Wikipedia is an online Encyclopedia. There are numerous living and accomplished people from all over the world who are listed in Wikipedia. The subject of the article I submitted represents one of millions of these people. What is it about the subject that is causing problems for you and the team of administrators you have rounded up to review this... or maybe there are other elements that I need to now consider? Please let me know because your actions are truly inappropriate. I am trying to work with you, follow your suggestions, identify why the subject is important and noble, and yet you seem to escalate things without resolving them. If you now require the advice of your peers when you abruptly locked and deleted the article, then this demonstrates that you may not be qualified to be an administrator, let alone, a volunteer. In fact, it shows that you may have reacted too quickly and harshly in response to my earlier emails (in capital letters) and my lack of experience navigating the online communication of Wikipedia. The fact that you called upon an American and an engineer to further review my article demonstrates your concern about anti-Americanism because the subject is an American. This was not an issue until you raised it and allied with Guinnog. Should I now be concerned that you and your administrator friends will go on a speedy deletion spree and remove every one or more of my contributions that I volunteered and spent countless hours on? Will I now face bans or scrutiny on Wikepedia? These are legitimate concerns that warrant formal complaints. Furthermore, I am amazed by the camaraderie among the network of administrators. I am posting this complaint on your talk because I cannot seem to get one impartial administrator (who you have not teamed up with) to respond to my request for a complaint on my talk page. This is not what Wikipedia is about. Wikipedia is a wonderful tool. Please do not ruin it for the rest of us. Helping out with the backlog

Hi there and congratulations on your brand new sysop flag. Now that you are an admin, you might want to help the community in a way you weren't able to before. The obvious example is clearing out the Category:Administrative backlog :-) You might want to start with Wikipedia:Requested moves which I find the easiest to deal with. You don't need to spend a lot of time there, if every admin (we have 1000 of us!) spent just 1 minute a day clearing backlogs, we'd have no backlogs at all! Hi Sarah, I have a question about book formats on author pages. Please look at Erich Schiffmann's book section. It lists the date of the book immediately after his name, instead of after the title of the book. It looks like maybe this is something done by a bot. Should the date of the book be after the author's name or after the book title? Also, where do those codes come from? Your opinion on something

Hello, Sarah. I wanted your opinion on something. I was thinking on getting an article to possible FA status. I always cite ref’s, but I usually put the link only. A good example of FA I spotted is the recent FA article Hurricane Katrina that has references that have link brackets on the dates of eternal links. They put the date to show when the info was pulled from the website, which is good as the link may disappear one day. However, adding brackets to the date really doesn’t give you anything. As an example, compare ref 1 vs ref 2:

It is around 6.00 (morning) in India. In fact, Jimmy also felt the absence of women editors in the meet, and wished to see some women editors from India. I know (not personally though) of only one woman editor from India, Jishacj. In India, women are excelling in many fields, and school results show that girls, in many states, do better in school finals. Khosrow II making reverts

Dear Sarah, you are an administrator, right? I saw you blocked User:Khosrow II the other day because he was "revert-warring", and you told him to "make an effort to discuss your changes further". Well, he doesn't. Now he's revert-warring me, and he's not discussing. I'm a new contributor and I've been trying to make some improvements to one page, Greater and Lesser Tunbs, but he and two others have formed a tag-team erasing everything I write. They've together reverted me about nine times in three days. Each time I make different improvements, and today I made a big expansion of the article with lots of sources. Look at this, [11], I think nobody can claim that wasn't an improvement. Before I came the article was totally unsourced and most of it was factually wrong. But even that was reverted blindly without even a comment. They even erase factual corrections they don't even disagree with, just for the sake of not letting me edit. And all just because they can't stand seeing anything in the article that hints at there being other serious opinions than just their Iranian one.

Can you do something about this? They are wearing me down and I'm getting tired of having to discuss with these people, it's like talking against a wall. FellFairy 22:45, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
