Tagging articles & edit summaries

Hello, Robert,

When you tag a page for deletion (CSD, PROD or AFD), please mention what you are doing in the edit summary. You also should notify the page creator that an article they have created has been nominated for deletion. If you use Twinkle, the program will do this for you automatically once you set up your Preferences which makes things easy.

Restoring categories

Can you explain why you are restoring the parent category [[Category:Films based on novels]] when there is a subcategory included in the article (e.g, [[Category:Films based on Japanese novels]])? They were removed with an edit summary explaining that they were redundant.-- Jezebel's Ponyo^bons mots 00:26, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Hello. Has there been a discussion consensus on the redundancy/deletion of parent categories, or is there a MOS saying so? I couldn't see why the existence of a subcategory should make the listing of its parent category dispensable, or why the latter should exclude the former. E.g. a listing of the category Japanese drama films hasn't made the listing of the parent category Japanese films redundant until now. Or has it? You archived my message before I could reply. When you ask me if I could point you to a discussion regarding the avoidance of redundancy in categories, Wikipedia:Categorization explains how categorization is supposed to work on Wikipedia. The point is to ensure that articles are categorized in a way that is most helpful to the reader. Including parent and top-level categories in articles isn't necessary. See Category:Films based on novels? The category is further split by location while still being part of the same category tree. Notice how many of the pages listed in the category are the ones you restored? The remainder are ones that could not be broken down into more specific categories (e.g the provenance of the novel is unknown). -- Jezebel's Ponyo^bons mots 00:17, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Other, Like Me: The Oral History of COUM Transmissions and Throbbing Gristle

The article Other, Like Me: The Oral History of COUM Transmissions and Throbbing Gristle has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable documentary, appears to fail the requirements of WP: NFILM as all citations are merely database listings or just proof that the film exists. At least 2 reviews are needed and none were found in a BEFORE.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. • Only list articles that readers might reasonably be looking for
• Use short sentence fragment descriptions, with no punctuation at the end
• Use exactly one navigable link ("blue link") in each entry
  • Only add a "red link" if used in existing articles, and include a "blue link" to an appropriate article
• Do not pipe links (unless style requires it) – keep the full title of the article visible
• Do not insert external links or references

I thought it appropriate as the red link concerned a film by a renowned director (Kaneto Shindo) and a future article on the film is not completely unlikely. 乾杯 Robert Kerber (talk) 16:13, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

Not a bad thought; but a disambiguation page isn't actually an article, it's a mechanism to route readers to specific articles about the topic when they share a name. Unless there's actually a page to direct the reader to for an item, DAB pages don't get an entry for that item; it's a dead-end for readers.

You could always write a stub on the film if it's notable (and my guess it is). And actually, now that you've identified the director and the film is mentioned in that article, we can include an entry (with the redlink you had) in addition to a blue-link to Kaneto Shindo. I was surprised to see you reverted my small revision of the plot in your article about this film.

First of all, I’m aware of and extremely grateful for all the work you’ve done on Wikipedia to make Japanese more understandable to an english speaking public. I see I’ve read many of your articles and always to my profit.

For myself I don’t have your skills to create articles and can only add details here and there that may be useful:a famous actor or actress in a minor role missing from a cast listing, a lesser known but important film missing from a filmography… for your article in question I saw some language weaknesses I felt I could improve. Hello, I'm about to deproD your recent prod of Arupusu monogatari Yasei as I think the article might be improved or, at worst, redirected to Hara's page or, in the future, to a page about Oizumi eiga (not yet existing). Also, I would like to point out that you forgot to inform the creator of the page of that proD. User:55go Your edit not only made the filmography invisible with no explanation covered by MOS:FILM and WP:CS, it also reinstated an incorrect quote/referencing. (And even IF referencing for each film listed were nescessary, a "more citations needed" template would be more useful than making the whole filmography invisible by comment tagging it.)
