Primary Source Article Sentence

The sentence is unsourced, but seems to me true and reasonable. "The writer" clearly means the person providing information of which he or she has no personal knowledge. Historians frequently use sources from people who have no personal knowledge - for example the use of Sir Thomas More as a source for the reign of Richard III. What the "offending" sentence is trying to do is refer to what are known as secondary or tertiary sources in historical research. Please see articles on those subjects elsewhere on Wikipedia. This article is about primary sources. Perhaps if the sentence were reworded to say more clearly what information it is trying to convey, and perhaps if it were placed in a more appropriate location within the article. I do not believe the sentence is clear enough, and even it it was, it does not seem to me to belong in the second sentence of the first paragraph in an article about primary sources. With the removal of the sentence, the first paragraph reads so much more clearly with regard to the subject of the article. With the sentence left in place, we are immediately taken on a sidetrack discussion of the use of secondary or tertiary sources before we have gotten into a more in-depth understanding of the subject of the article which is primary sources. Thank you for your honest response to my edit and my comments. I look forward to resolving this matter in the best interest of the readers of Wikipedia before we get too much further into the new school year when many thousands of students will be looking to this article for a better understanding of what a primary source is.Ringtailedpanther (talk) 21:31, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
