Hi there. I've been reviewing some of your patrols. With only 156 edits to mainspace I really do not think you have sufficient experience to be patrolling new pages. When you have 200 edits to mainspace, you could consider enrolling at the WP:CVUA to learn how to recognose and remove vandalism. If you can't think of content to add to articles, CVU is a good place to start with maintenance tasks and it's a lot easier than NPP. I'm dropping you a note to express my strong concern for this this series of edits that you reviewed and approved at Famke Janssen – you allowed sourced material to be removed and replaced with unsourced information at a WP:BLP. This should pretty much never happen. You also failed to check the previous edit history of the page, and the Talk page, because if you had you would have seen that discussions about the kind of edits this IP made had already taken place (and shown to be inappropriate). I gather you are new at Pending changes reviewing, and being a reviewer is often trickier than it appears at first. I'm asking you to please be more careful before approving changes in the future, esp. at BLP's – you may want to review WP:BLP (and sections thereof, such as WP:BLPPRIVACY), as it may help you figure out what's appropriate to approve and what's not. Hmm, on rereading your reply, it seems that the problem arose because the article uses a plain link rather than one of the cite templates. If that's so, perhaps the smart strategy would be to systematically replace such plain links wherever we find them, with a cite template using the archiveurl parameter … What do you think? yoyo (talk) 03:09, 18 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi Khris249. I assume you're talking about my reversion on Qnet? Even though my edit summary says that I reverted your edit, that didn't really happen. What happened was that 170.251.40.236 made two edits, and using Twinkle, you only reverted the first of those. Using Pending Changes review, I reverted the second IP edit. The automated edit summary is wrong, but if you look at the history of the Qnet page, you can see what happened. Range of Dates

Thank you for your response at the Teahouse. I appreciate the reference to MOS:DATERANGE. I thought I had tried the format you provided, but evidently I didn't. It's working now, in any case. Hi Anobium625! You don't really need to use those templates, but if you don't, make sure you at least use an en-dash ("–") instead of a normal hyphen ("-"). The easiest way to do that is by using the template ({{ndash}}) or the HTML entity (–). The {{nbsp}} and {{snd}} templates are less important, they just make sure everything that belongs together stays on the same line, even if the browser would like to insert a linebreak there. I suggest reading the documentation for those templates, and then deciding what you need depending on circumstances. rchard2scout (talk) 15:07, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

Pages where archive parameter is not a subpage

Thanks for working on Category:Pages where archive parameter is not a subpage. If you find significant issues like pages which shouldn't have been in the category then there is discussion at User talk:Lowercase sigmabot III/Archive HowTo#Category:Pages where archive parameter is not a subpage. I changed from small yearly archives to numbered archives in Talk:Arms of Canada and added {{Archives}} so readers can find the archives when they are made. I looked at some examples in a search [1] and yearly archiving looks like a bad idea in most of them. If you want to do more parameter cleanup then you might consider those first before somebody else activates yearly archives and we get a lot of small scattered archives. If they already have yearly archives created then it may not be worth the effort to change it. User:PrimeHunter/Subpages.js makes it easy to look for subpages with a click. @PrimeHunter: Thanks. From what I've seen, the template is working correctly, and all pages I've seen in the category belong there (it's almost always pages that have been moved in the past). If I come across yearly/monthly archives that shouldn't be date-based, I might fix them (as I did at Talk:ATP Tour records/Archive 1). Thanks for Subpages.js, that'll be useful.

By the way, once you're confident in {{FULLPAGENAME decoded}}, could you use it to update {{Setup auto archiving}}? That'll probably decrease the amount of new pages with a wrong archive parameter. --rchard2scout (talk) 13:28, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

It looks like someone in the distant past moved South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands to South Georgia (island) without moving the talk page or its archives. I see you changed the archive box, but you didn't move the archive page Talk:South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands/Archive 1 to Talk:South Georgia (island)/Archive 1. I went ahead and did that. Now I think we also need to move Talk:South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands to Talk:South Georgia (island)/Archive 2. Does that seem like the right thing to do? I didn't want to discuss this on the article talk page, because I think adding another thread now will cause the bot to archive a thread, making things worse. Topsy-turvy

The consensus in the recent discussion was to move the article to "Eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79", but you didn't do that and you didn't provide a redirect either. Why? The abbreviation "AD" means "In the year of Our Lord", so people searching are going to look under "Eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79". I don't know what suggestions appear in the search box in mobile view, but the way you moved this article may lead people to conclude we don't have an article at all. 84.9.101.54 (talk) 13:03, 15 July 2021 (UTC)

The recent discussion (which I barely participated in) was closed by No such user as "no consensus". That means there wasn't a consensus to move the article. If you have an issue with that result, please discuss with them (and preferably on the article talk page instead of here. This isn't rocket science. "Eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79" has 455,000 Google hits compared to only 62,500 for "Eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD." Have you nothing better to do than revert an editor who is correctly implementing WP:COMMONNAME? I hope you will now move to the wording mandated by WP:COMMONNAME, or if you don't and @Miamiaim: does it you will refrain from interfering. I was looking at this page you tagged for speedy deletion and according to the page log, you created it. So, why are you creating an unnecessary page in another editor's User space and then tagging it for deletion? Very peculiar. Liz ^Read! Talk! 14:52, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

Liz, I want the corresponding page in the User namespace (User:Whiskers75/vector.css) to be deleted. But since that is user CSS, I can't edit it to place the tag there. So, according to Wikipedia:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#Pages_that_need_to_be_tagged_in_a_special_manner: "Pages that you cannot edit (e.g., due to protection), or JSON pages: place the template on the corresponding Talk page instead, along with an explanation of which page to delete." So I mentioned it in the |rationale= of the CSD tag. @Mathglot:, I'm guessing you accidentally started editing from an old revision of the talkpage. Probably Special:Permalink/735189124, which was the moment the |auto=yes was first added. Take a look at this diff between that version and your version.

Edits to source code for images

Hi Rchard2scout. At 11:22, 14 January 2022 today you made several edits to the source code for images in the Baháʼu'lláh I've been working on. You gave the reason for your edits as "Fix lint errors". I checked online, and per Wikipedia:Extended image syntax I can find nothing that says to use "{{}}" as you have done in your edits -- so I'm wondering why you did these changes, and if you can tell me what Wikipedia article explains why it is better to use them? All article images were inserted using the Insert > Images and media -- so the coding that was in place basically came from the Wikipedia system. Hope to hear from you a.s.a.p. on this, as otherwise I plan to continue to use the code that was in place rather than syntax not mentioned in Wikipedia. Thanks! Something similar (and more readable in the source text) is done by using {{center}}. On the other hand, using <center> tags is depreciated (see Wikipedia:HTML 5#center). So I try to replace the tags with the template (or some other solution) whenever I come across it. I agree that my edit summary could have been cleaner, I'll try to write a better edit summary in the future. After studying the further info you provided, and digging around in a pile of other articles on captions and 'center' formatting, I think I now get what is going on with the deprecated old HTML 'center' markup I used. Of course, using the "div style" wikitext is lots more work when editing, so I appreciate the referral to the similar 'center' template you used. Too bad this whole matter is not easily available on some Wiki Help page with the latest on Wikitext formatting. Perhaps that's an article for you?! Thanks for the learning you shared! Choice of separator tag

Hi Rchard2scout,

I see in this edit that you chose to replace the paragraph separators (p) with line separators (br). I wonder if you could explain better the reason for your preference. IMHO, the paragraph separator (p) is very useful to obtain a correct spacing of paragraphs in such cases where a single line separator (br) would result in a space too narrow and double line separators (br br) would result in a space too large, whereas the paragraph separator results in just the right spacing.

As the "HTML_in_wikitext" help page says, the parargraph separator "is especially useful in lists, for list items with multiple paragraphs", which is sort of what we have in the relevant parts of the tables in this article. The idea is to have some reasonable space between the different candidates to distinguish them more easily and make clear which candidates are associated with which political party abbreviations. Comparing the versions before and after the edit, it can be observed that the version with the line separators (br) leaves some confusion because there is no clear space between the candidates. The version with paragraph separators (p) allows a better view of the distinction between the candidates and of which candidates are associated with which abbreviations.

The help page also notes that the closing tag (/p) is not necessary for MediaWiki installations, such as Wikipedia. If the only concern is the absence of closing tags (/p), then, instead of removing the paragraph separators, a better solution would be to add closing tags, although they would seem superfluous in this case.

A few things: the part about list items with multiple paragraphs doesn't really apply here. That's about if you have a bulleted/numbered list (each line starting with * or #), and you want to add an extra paragraph within a single list item, you can use <p> tags, because newlines will break the list.

With that out of the way, I agree with you that the slightly larger spacing looks better, especially because (especially with smaller window sizes) the first and last names are already broken into two lines. The semantically correct way would probably be to use something like {{Plainlist}}, because it's technically a list of two items. But I think that's overkill here.

Then, how to implement the correct spacing: if we're using <p> tags, we need closing tags, otherwise it causes Linter errors (for more information, see WP:LINT). I'm not sure why the help page says the closing tag isn't necessary, I'll change that. The other option, which is much simpler and which I'll implement now, is to just use a newline, like in regular wikitext. It'll cause MediaWiki to automatically insert all the correct tags, and it's much more readable in wikitext. --rchard2scout (talk) 09:17, 20 September 2022 (UTC)

Hi! I removed it, because there's no source for it. "I am familiar with them" is not a source, see Wikipedia:No original research. Your claim "believed to be one of oldest school-based psalms" also needs a source. Believed by whom? Why do they believe that? If the psalm is indeed an important part of the school identity, someone must have written something about them somewhere, right? It doesn't need to be online, it could also be in a book, a research paper, or some other offline source. If you can find that and cite it, that would probably be a reliable source that can be used to include the lyrics. If that doesn't exist, maybe you can be the one to write it? Are you currently a student at the school? If so, I'd advise you to talk to a history teacher, a librarian, or some other faculty who can help, and maybe write an article for a school or local newspaper or journal? Fair warning: if you do, you probably have a conflict of interest, so you should not be the one to update the Wikipedia article. Drafts in categories

Just wanted to thank you for your sandbox report that you pinged me to last week; as of today, Dannybot still hasn't updated the official report since July 1, so that report's definitely helping me stay on top of the job in the meantime until the regular report starts working again.

I did want to ask, however, if there's a way that the report can also be made to skip over hidden maintenance categories that are tagged with the {{Polluted category}} template. Categories of that type aren't things I actually have to worry about cleaning up, and are sometimes even impossible to clean up anyway because they're template-generated — so that template has existed for years to flag "this category doesn't need to be cleaned up, so skip it in cleanup reports", but the regular draft report has never actually excluded those categories properly even though the separate report for user pages with categories on them (which is still working properly) already does. So is there a way to make your temp report skip over categories with that tag on them? Bearcat (talk) 16:19, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

Oof, I just copied the SQL query that already existed (linked to by Cryptic in the VPT discussion), and put it into a {{Database report}}. I'm not actually good at writing my own SQL, so I think your best option is to ask the good people at Wikipedia:Request a query to create a query for this. Pointers to my sandbox and Wikipedia:Database reports/Polluted categories/Configuration (which contains the query that excludes {{Polluted category}}) may help them. Los Caprichos

Hi rchard2scout. I appreciate your help with coding. Initially, with a narrow window on Wikipedia and another window on my MS Word translation, I mistakenly thought the graphics positions had been changed to center them all on the screen (which thankfully I now see they have not been). After widening the Wikipedia window I see that they correctly have text wrapping around the smaller graphics.

I have no idea what "lint errors" may be. I copied codes primarily from the Spanish article, making adaptations into English coding as best I could, testing results along the way. I am learning as I proceed.

I am currently reading through the entire translation again, making refinements to the language and deleting the old reference tags as I grow confident they will no longer be required to guide me should I need to refer back to the original Spanish text. When I am done this pass and all looks okay, I will get rid of the "Editing in Progress" notice. This may take me a couple of more days, as I have other obligations.
