NK Olimpija Ljubljana

Hello Ratipok. I was the one "to blame" on having inserted the notable players list that included the previous Olimpija players, and I also thank you for pointing out that the website I found was not the official one, as I wrongly touth. However, you recently made a massive change to the article, that I´m not sure if it is supported by all footy editors. Many times, massive changes like these ones, even if correct, should have some previous discussion, even just to see what to do with the rest of the related content. The problem that we have here is that I´m not sure if it would be apropriate to have another article for the team with same name that ceased to exist. Resumingly, I´m not sure if the deletion of all info regarding the "old" Olimpija was a good edit of yours. I´m not saying yes, or not, just that we should see how other clubs in same situation dealt with it. Otherwise, with your edit, we lost all info about the previous Olimpija, and that is not benefitial to anybody, I even think you would agree with me on that. We should see what to do about it. Basically, in other words, you trouth to garbage all regarding the great historical Olimpija :) . I had already asked for opinions on this at the football project talk page (here Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#NK_Olimpija_Ljubljana), but there wasn´t much feedback on it. What do you think? Thank you for your post. I have made changes as the current article is the correct one. The old arcitle is about a different club that was abolished due to financial difficulties. That is the officall standpoint of Slovenian football association, UEFA and the board of Slovenian first league. However. The old article can still be made avaliable if a new article about the old club (1911-2004) is made as NK Olimpija Ljubljana (defunct). I think that in the case of Austrian club Admira Wacker has the similar case. One article is about the old club that was abolished (5 times AUT champions) and the other article is about the new club that has the same name but hasnt have the rights of the old honours, history, tradition just like in the case of Olimpjia. The lead usually does not have references because it is a summary of the whole article, which should have the refs. Even in the lead, a direct quotation should have a ref, and some people will add refs for extraordinary claims too. The other way to cite the lead is the same as the rest of the article (this is much less common, but sometimes seen). The English is not bad, but there are some places that could be improved. There are people willing to do copyedits at WP:PR/V and at WP:GOCE. I understand completely as German is my second language. When I write in German I make all kinds of mistakes that I do not (usually) make in English (and some that are impossible to make in English ;-) . Cut-and-paste moves

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Ziga Pavlin a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. Controversial article moves

Do not make controversial moves over redirects as you did at Rok Ticar. The Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle requires that you seek a consensus before making such controversial moves. if you feel this article should be moved, then the proper process is to make a move request on the article's talk page. His name is Rok Tičar and it should be written as such. I dont see any controversies considering that majority of other international athletes (Jaromír Jágr, Teemu Selänne, Dejan Stanković, Júlio César Soares Espíndola) including other well known persons, such as the current President of Poland (Bronisław Komorowski), President of Slovenia (Danilo Türk), Prime Minister of Spain (José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero) and thousands more, use diacritics in their article names. Are you going to change them all? Unless you do, I will made "controversial" article move of Rok Tičar once more as I dont see why he should be an exception. 2004

I don't uderstand the use of 2004 in the articles NK Mura, NK Ljubljana and NK Olimpija. I'm not sure for tha last one but NK Ljubljana and NK Mura were certainly dissolved in 2005. I followed the case with Ljubljana carefully back then and I can guarantee that.84.52.128.62 (talk) 09:36, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

All three clubs were officialy dissolved at the end of 2004. The reason why they were allowed to finish the season was because they were at the time, competing in the first division. The Slovenian FA then had to decide what to do. Either to kick all three clubs out after the season was already in progress and therefore finish the season with seven clubs (which would efectivelly meant that the league would not be eligible to participate in UEFA competitions the next season), or to exceptionally allow the three teams to finish the season (2004-05) which they started. So, officialy the three clubs were in fact dissolved by the decision of Slovenian FA at the end of 2004 and closed all buissnes transaction at that time, however, theye were exceptionally allowed to play a +- dozen more matches just so the season would be transparent. That may be right for Olimpija, but certainly not for Ljubljana. If the club would have been dissolved in 2004, there would be no dilemma about their licence in 2005, when they were in the game untill the end of licence procedure and even had options to resume in second league, so the club couldn't have been dissolved in 2004. Well, since the dissolution year of NK Ljubljana is not referenced in the article itself, then you can change it to 2005 (if its correct) without any problem. Especially if you have a reference that confirms this. Personally I believed that all three clubs were dissolved at the same time, but I might be wrong since there are reliable references only in the case of Olimpija and Mura. Wikipedia is an encylopedia so if 2005 is the correct dissolution year for NK Ljubljana then it should be written as such. I do believe that I remember though, that after their license got revoked (i.e. was not extended) at the end of 2004, Ljubljana (I am not sure about Mura, but it might be as well) tried to appeal and get the license couple of months later, unsuccessfuly. Eternal derby (Slovenia)

You dont get what I was trying to do and I see again that you have made the same table stats section, despite the fact that the stats are wrong! Old Olimpija and Maribor played only ten matches in the Yugoslav league not twenty as your table shows it at the moment. This is the main problem (you acted before thinking and if you would just wait long enough I would fix the problem like I intended to). Ten matches were in first division, others were in second or third, however, your table shows it like they played all of the Yugoslav period league matches in first division, which is false. The same goes for the Cup section. Not all of the matches in the tables were part of the Yugoslav Cup. Some were from the Slovenian Republic Cup (regional cup in SR Slovenia, minor regional tournament in terms of SFR Yugoslavia). There are also some other mistakes (like the one where you claim that the best result of Maribor in the Yugoslav Cup was QF, yet in fact it was SF. Another thing. The whole stats from old and new Olimpija in comparison to Maribor will eventually have to be split into two sections and therefore there is no purpuse if you put them togheter, because when this article will be put to GA nomination I am certain that reviewers will demand this.Ratipok (talk) 16:18, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's something I'd like to see too. In part, that's because to me it is a bit more than just an article. Back in the day, I really enjoyed watching Puc play, he was one of my all-time favorite handball players.

Yes, I've seen the PR but have not studied it in detail yet. It seems to be rather useful and constructive. I'm still interested in bringing this article up to GA class. Definitely more sources are needed for better coverage and depth, and - needless to say - PR remarks should be addressed. I'm going to try to find some more Croatian sources. (Statistics, for one.)

It seems to me that print sources from that time would be a possible source of stats / results (even if they are not available on the web). The reason I need help is because I would like to move the current Ljudski vrt Stadium article to simply, Ljudski vrt. The problem is that "Ljudski vrt" was already created as a redirection so I dont know how to change/fix it. As for the title change, I think that Ljudski vrt would be much better (especially with the upcoming work on the article in order to achieve GA or FA status). Petar Stojanović

Hi, Ratipok, and thanks for the message, which takes me back to about 100 years ago (I exaggerate a bit) when I was helping out creating stubs for obscure composers who were listed in The opera corpus. At one point there was a Petar Stojanović dab page because someone had created a link for a Petar Stojanović (photographer) - click this link, if you're interested, to see what eventually happened. Anyway, my Petar S is better remembered as a composer than a violinist, and it's probably not a good idea to decide between Hungarian (born in Budapest) and Serbian, so Petar Stojanović (composer) would be the best bet for your dab page with the footballer. I've now moved the page to Petar Stojanović (composer), so feel free to create create Petar Stojanović (footballer). You may need an admin to create a Petar Stojanović dab page from the redirect (apologies if I've done my move in the wrong order). I've changed all the mainspace Petar Stojanović links to Petar Stojanović (composer), except that there's a bicyclist of that name in Istrian Spring Trophy which ought to be turned into a redlink, maybe Petar Stojanović?

Just for the record, I've never heard a note of the composer's music and know nothing of Balkan languages. But about 500 years ago (I exaggerate even more), I travelled through Slovenia on a train from Venice to Vienna which stopped in the middle of the night in Ljubljana or thereabouts to check my passport. Hello. Not doubting your word, but I can't see why they'd be in Maribor, lovely place though it is. They've been training for some days in Bad Häring, which is the other side of Austria, and are playing Borussia Moenchengladbach tomorrow in Munich, and then they've got a first-team friendly in England on Tuesday. There are all sorts of reports on the Birmingham Mail website here. Does the BCFC website really expect people to register even to read stuff? that's a totally stupid way to run a club site. Maribor players

Sem vido da si na forumu uredil zadevo glede avtogolov in so popravli statistiko (zdaj bom pregledo če so kakšne spremembe pri golih zaradi tega), vprašaj če lahko uredijo tudi glede dvojnega vnosa pri igralcu Veroljub Jovanović (enkrat je vnešen z "č"-jem, drugič pa z "ć"-jem), zato piše da ma 114 + 2 nastopa namesto da bi bilo skupaj 116 in se zaradi tega podere pravilen vrsten red (v artiklu na wiki je napisano 116 tako kot mora biti)

Nisem takoj videl da je napisan komentar da se tabela posodobi 1x na sezono in sem že posodobil, upam da ni kaj narobe, od naslednje sezone se ne bo več posodabljajo eno leto (do maja 2014), ker zdaj se itak ne splača 4 tedne pred koncem sezone nehat posodabljat, če bi to držalo "The table that follows is accurate as of 2011–12 NK Maribor season." potem bi bilo treba vse nastope dati nazaj kot so bili maja 2012, tako da mogoče je pametno da artikel ponovno nominiraš za FL takoj po zadnji tekmi proti Aluminiju ko bo vse posodobljeno. Yes, I noticed it had been archived. Pity, really. Comes of it waiting weeks for any reviews at all apart from those made by the FL delegates, and then getting an in-depth oppose that needed a lot of work. The list looks much closer to FL-quality now. When you do renominate, it might be best to respond individually at the FLC page to reviewers' points (done, or will do, or don't think that's needed because..., or whatever's appropriate) so that everyone can tell whether and how the work is progressing.
One thing I didn't think of when reviewing was the alt text on the images. Your captions are fine, but what alt text is supposed to do, is briefly describe what can be seen in the picture for the benefit of those readers who can't actually see it. So, for instance, the alt text for File:NK Maribor2011.jpg could say something like A group of casually dressed young men, some with arms round each other's shoulders, stand in a row. Two of them are holding up a silver cup, and then the caption identifies the men and why they're lined up waving a trophy. Or for File:Matjaž Kek.jpg, we can see something like A laughing middle-aged white man wearing a lightweight outdoor jacket, (assuming that is a laugh) and then the caption tells the reader who the man is and why he's relevant to Maribor. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:51, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I've noticed the new articles. Perhaps next time you edit the list to remove the nolink from a player with a new article, you could also remove the nolinks from the remaining notable listed players, i.e. those that have played in a fully professional league as listed at WP:FPL, and (in my opinion, anyway) those that played in the Yugoslav top division. Then we can see how many real redlinks remain. Judging by the way the new articles have been appearing, you're probably down to an acceptable amount.

You could safely remove the bits about flags and FIFA nationalities from the key, which aren't relevant now you've gone over to a Country represented column. Now the key and the footnotes are pretty stable, I'll give them a copyedit for English usage over the weekend, and have another look at the list overall, but I don't expect to find many problems. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:50, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Just about to post a few comments at the FLC, nothing major. Still a little bothered by the redlinks/nolinks though. As said above, I'm comfortable with the way articles are appearing for the notable players, but there still seem to be some players not linked who in my opinion at least should be. According to the List of NK Maribor seasons, Maribor were in the Yugoslav top division from 1967/68 to 1971/72, so there are still several players e.g. Herbert Vabič, Herbert Klančnik, who played for several years in that division, and others e.g. Dragan Grbavac, Miro Petrič, who appeared in it. Are you unhappy with those players being presumed notable and thus needing to be linked – in which case please argue about it :-) it might well be that my assumptions about player notability in that league are not generally held – or did you just miss them when removing the nolinks?

Incidentally, when I was looking at List of NK Maribor seasons, the table didn't format properly, and clicking the sort buttons didn't do anything. Does it work for you? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 10:36, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thought it was probably just that you missed them... On the seasons list thing, I'd guess something in that templated header that worked at the time has been broken by WP software changes. The Maribor list is the only page that uses it now, apart from NK Olimpija Ljubljana (2005) and it's broken there as well. Looks like it needs changing to use ordinary wikitable-markup. For Nilton, I've spent some time looking for any news or non-user-edited statistical source to confirm his playing for Cape Verde, and can't; and he even doesn't appear as a national team player on NFT or footballdatabase.eu. There are four standard deletion processes, two of which are relevant to the case of Emir Dautović. The currently on going process is called proposed deletion, which is used for uncontroversial deletions. You're welcome to disagree with me on this, but I feel the article falls into this category. If a proposed deletion tag remains in place for seven days the article may deleted. If someone objects by removing the tag, the process is stopped and the tag may not be re-added. If the original nominator (or anyone else for that matter) disagrees with the reasons proved with the objection, deletion may continue second process, called article for deletion. This is what I assume you were referring to in your comment on my talk page. Under this process, the deletion of the article would be discussed for at least seven days, at which point, if there is a consensus to delete, keep, merge, move, or redirect the article an administrator will take the appropriate action.

Second, allow me to expand on the delete rationale, and explain why the article is unlikely to survive a discussion if you do object. There are obviously rules as to which subjects may and may not have articles on Wikipedia. This is called notability. There are two notability guidelines that are relevant to footballers. First, the subject specific guideline on footballers. It says that any footballer who has played for his or her country at the senior level or played in one of the fully professional leagues listed here may have an article. The second, is the general notability guideline. It applies to all subjects and says that anything that has received significant coverage in reliable sources is notable. In the case of footballers, significant coverage means detailed, in depth coverage going well beyond the routine sports journalism (match reports, squad lists, transfer announcements and speculation, etc.) that you would expect of any footballer. Emir Dautović does not meet either of these guidelines. In fact the subject specific guideline explicitly excludes him in two separate ways, as a youth international and as having signed but not played for fully pro a club. Nationalistic/Ethnic edits

I understand your reverting of my posts because I didn't provide sources, and as you said, because ethnicity info doesn't belong in the intro (which I didn't know at the time). I apologize about that. But I would like to point out something: in some articles in the intro, for example Miral Samardžić, where it says "is a Slovenian football defender", the word Slovenian is linked to the article about Slovenian people which specifically states to be about the ethnic group ("The Slovenes are the northernmost South Slavic ethnic group"), and as such would imply ethnic belonging, which is an info that, as you informed me, 1.) doesn't belong in the intro, and 2.) for which there is no source. Slovenia is not home just to Slovenes, but to a number of ethnicities. All we know is that he has citizenship of Slovenia, but we have no sources how he identifies as ethnically. Considering this, I would suggest compromising by using the neutral form with the word "Slovenian" in the intro not linked to any article, as has been the practice with most articles about people, for example like the articles about Bastian Schweinsteiger or Mesut Özil, it both says "is a German footballer" but none is linked to the article about Germans. Same with David Beckham for example - the article says "is an English footballer" but doesn't link to the article about the specific ethnic group.Winepour (talk) 17:51, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I didnt deleted ANYTHING (except for nickname) from the page, I only re-arranged sentences, c/e + updated derbies & stadium sections, and shortened the lead because it was too long, lead should consist of: year of foundation, full name of the club, league where the club plays, number of trophies won, the stadium at which the club plays, club colors, and thats pretty much it, max. 3 paragraphs...and dont worry, of course I did moved the references from the lead to rivarly & youth academy sections, none of the references were deleted (only one dead reference about maribor-mura was deleted) 86.58.36.235 (talk) 18:58, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

See, you are adding misleading references, like the one in the "Crest" section, it is nowhere mentioned anything about the crest, but this could be the last sentence in the lead section, that "NK Maribor is the most recongnized sport brand in the country", not in the crest section because the crest is not mentioned in any of the three sources. Of course the Maribor crest is the most recognized sports crest in the country, but the sentence is "The badge of the club is one of the most recognizable sport symbols in Slovenia" which is okay and is probably true, but then the references are about choosing the best sport brand in the country and not about crest, while in the wikipedia sentence, the badge is directly mentioned...this sentence could be moved to lead, replacing "badge" with "NK Maribor", while the crest section should start with "The club's crest is based on the official emblem of the city of Maribor, which is turn based on a 14th-century seal[75] with minor differences", it sounds more neutral like this, and no needing for additional references. 86.58.36.235 (talk) 10:22, 22 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Actually Maribor played more matches against Celje since 1991 than against any other team with several cup finals/semifinals, while Maribor-Mura is not even a rivalry just because of that one match in 2004, a lot of NK Maribor fans actually supported Mura back in 2012 so how is that a "rivalry"? Thats all reasonable what you said, but just the fact that Maribor and Mura matches have the highest attendances does NOT automatically make it a rivalry, and there were 6,000 spectators this February against Celje, while attendance against Mura was only 3,000 back in 2012, and remember how Maribor fans wanted Mura to finish 4th ahead of Koper, this is like arsenal fans would support chelsea to finish ahead of leicester or something like that. The rivalry is a match between two teams which "hates" each other, played many important matches during the history (the only important Maribor-Mura match was the title decided in 2004, so one notable match in 55 years), clashes and fighting between the fans etc., this never happened in Maribor-Mura matches, while in the 2010 cup semifinal, Maribor fans tried to attack away fans (Celje) during the match, and something like that happened only against Olimpija previously 86.58.36.235 (talk) 21:29, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, fans views are not really important if there are no reliable sources (forum is not reliable, its obviously that if you create a poll on Maribor forum Mura would win, but not because of rivalry but because of other reasons), if you google up "štajerski derbi" it would get MUCH more results than "štajersko-prekmurski derbi" (first six result for that search are one article for handball, three for volleyball, and only one Siol article for football), while "severovzhodni derbi" doesnt give ONE result outside of wikipedia (only one article from Večer, where author mentioned that Wikipedia calls it by that name), while for "štajerski derbi" all first five google results are about Maribor-Celje match (slovenske novice, prvaliga.si, rtvslo, nova24tv.si, 24ur.com) 86.58.36.235 (talk) 09:02, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Invite to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section.
