April - National Contribution Month

Good day Radagast,

During the month of April, Wikimedia Canada is preparing the National Contribution Month, and we are looking for experienced contributors to organize a contribution day (or half-day) in their region.

Contribution days are activities where Wikipedia's contributors, students, or anybody interested in contributing to Wikipedia meets together to collectively improve a predetermined theme. This meetings generally take place in library where references are easy of access, but can be organized in any communal room. Beside improving articles, a goal of this participatory workshops is to initiate neophyte in the cooperative contribution of Wikipedia.

If you are interested in organizing or participating in a contribution day in your region, communicate witht he national team on the project's talk page. The exact agenda of each local event is left to the discretion of the organizer. Help is available for the organization from contributors who already organized these type of days, so don't be worried. If you have any questions or want more information, don't hesitate to contact us.

Ion LRT route diagram

What is the "Waterloo Spur" and how does it relate to the Ion LRT? Is there an additional line planned there? Secondarywaltz (talk) 19:17, 19 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's the lightly-used rail line that currently runs through Uptown, Waterloo Park, the east edge of UW campus and north beyond Northfield to Elmira. Its only real use today is by the occasional freight car to Elmira industry, and by the Waterloo Central Railway. It's owned by the Region meaning it can be easily converted into primarily light rail use. It will remain accessible by freight even after Ion is built, hence my references to it in the diagram. Eglinton Crosstown stations

New articles for these stations have now been created. I think we should we just follow the lead on this and help with those articles - which would eventually need to be created. I will update with info from your list, and mark it when I have done that. I have added a couple of location photos and could probably find more. Map opinion

Kitchener station

On the Template:Ion LRT route diagram you have linked from "Central Station" to Kitchener railway station without any explanation for this name. Do you have some information and references you can add to the railway station article? Secondarywaltz (talk) 19:02, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. There are station designs being revealed today. They don't seem to know what the names are and change them every time there is a new announcement. I think the CBC mistook the generic "Cental Stations", meaning all the stations in the cental area, for a proper name. Transit hub seems to be still used. Ion stations

Will you be producing articles for Ion in the same naming format of "Name LRT station" as used for the Eglinton Crosstown? Perhaps they not going to be substantial enough structures with sufficient references to deserve separate articles, and are simply like streetcar stops. It's in my long-term plans but I'm intending to give it a bit more time until things are further along. The one I posted a picture of is one of about three right now with both tracks and platform pad; a few more have one or the other, and many more have neither. I'll try to keep you posted. Long "e" sound

Which sound is denoted as "long 'e'" in the pronunciation hint for the word Weber in the Weber Street article? Did later corrections do this knowledge a favour? I am just curious if the interpretation of the term "long 'e'" differs across readers. Also, I wonder if a credible source could be found to the history of naming the street. The IPA pronunciation that's currently there accurately reflects the local pronunciation, yes. As for a source, that might be tricky; I'm neither a linguist or a historian, so I wouldn't know where to look. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized).
