Should have brought this here

I posted this concern at the visual arts talk page, and on further thought should have brought this here first. Wondering if you could explain the extent that you have, in good faith, removed information from visual arts pages. It seems you go in and in a matter of minutes remove much out of each page. I found this at the Alex Grey page (which I've reverted), and then, looking at your contributions for just today, many more pages impacted and then labeled with tags and thousands or tens of thousands of bytes removed in just a few minutes apiece. So I wanted to bring it to other eyes to see if your method of editing is normal for some editors and see if there is a concern. The following is new to this page: I know the Alex Grey material fairly well, and the things you removed seemed, on a quick look, to be fine for inclusion. And you tagged it with a few tags, including a COI which read like you were guessing, and which was not brought to the talk page which COI claims should be. So you can probably see my concern. Hi Randy, thanks for your message. For context, I have been cleaning up some articles in list of the 1900s American artists pages. I nominated a large number of articles from that page recently, and a very high percentage of those have been deleted. From that you might conclude that I have a decent idea of the subject area and can adequately assess notability and claims. In any case, the things I have deleted amount to the following types of things:

  • trivia-type narratives of where someone grew up and their family
  • list of artists and professors they was influenced by, when not sourced by a decent publication,
  • CV-style long lists of unsourced exhibition listings for less than highly notable artists. WP:NOTCV and so on. Group shows are really not that important.
  • lists of grants and academic run-of the mill fellowships received
  • religious promotion of books or similar works without proper secondary independent sourcing, and where none is available,
  • promotional copy designed to create a bogus creative aura around the artist (there is a special language for this in art),
  • sources give that are on blogspot or similar,
  • inline promotional URLS, per WP:MOS, which I try to convert to refs if they are relevant
  • a list of schools visited by a "don't do drugs" tour, see edit


In the case of Alex Gray, you are very experienced and I am sure you will agree that this is a bloated article that has a promotional tone. Any article that claims a relatively fringe artist in the art world is a "visionary" in its first sentence portends bad news. Look at the philosophy section of that article, for example: it contains no sources and is basically an original essay on the artist's thoughts. I will leave your revert, but I disagree that the lede material

"He is also on the board of advisors for the Center for Cognitive Liberty and Ethics, and is the Chair of Wisdom University's Sacred Art Department. He and his wife Allyson Grey are the co-founders of The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors (CoSM), a non-profit church supporting Visionary Culture in Wappingers Falls, New York."

has any purpose other than to promote his interests.

Another recent deletionof material was on Linda St. Clair, where I removed the following, in part:

As a teenager, she attended College Grove High School where her guidance councilor informed her that her career choices should be limited to secretary, teacher or nurse. After high school, St. Clair yearned for a taste of the larger world, and planned to move to Atlanta to study interior design. Instead, in 1970, Linda married her high school sweetheart and the couple had one son before divorcing in 1979.(ref removed for this page's formatting) In 1987, St. Clair married illustrator and fine-art painter Dean St. Clair. In 1983, the couple moved to Albuquerque and later to Santa Fe to allow Dean to pursue his art career. St. Clair was not painting at the time, but absorbed the artistic environment around her. “I went to galleries … even memorized details about other artists’ lives,” she said. “I was smitten with the art bug, but still too scared to pick up a brush.”

I would ask if you see any encyclopedic material there? I don't.

Here is another example of material I cut, from Jeff Chapman-Crane. This is an example of the "aura creation" style of writing, where someone drones on about how the artist developed their practiced based on the old masters and Van Gogh, without any sources to back that up:

"The artist credits his teacher, Don Hilton, with having an immeasurable influence on his work. He has also been inspired by Rembrandt and the old masters, but says that Vermeer's paintings were paramount among the classical creators in shaping his personal style. As for contemporary painters, Andrew Wyeth and other American realists have impressed themselves on Chapman-Crane and his artistic vision. Vincent Van Gogh is Chapman-Crane's favorite artist, but he acknowledges that their style is completely unrelated to one another. The expressionist's "passion and...the emotional intensity of his work," appealed to Chapman-Crane. He has not emulated the appearance of his art, though. While Van Gogh used expressive brush strokes with thick textural paint, Chapman-Crane's work is more restrained. His paintings are not highly textural, but more 2-D in nature. His brush strokes have been described as being relaxed, yet showing restraint. One reporter described a "sure, light and economical brushing technique" on his landscapes. His creations do not have the wild motion of Van Gogh whose work exudes energy. Chapman-Crane's subjects are more often in repose. Van Gogh also played with color, using unnatural and vivid hues. Chapman-Crane's color usage has been described as being more subdued. Words such as "stark," "matte," and "cool and muted," have been applied to his use of color and shadow. Also, while his color is not dramatic, his lighting has been compared to that of the Baroque painters."

The problems with the above are: it's not encyclopedic, it has no sources, and it is vanity-type promotion ("Van Gogh also played with color, using unnatural and vivid hues." i.e. like Chapman-Crane). The artist is actually very notable, but not for similarities to Van Gogh: he has done a numebr of environmental works that have garnered significant coverage. In any case, the article also has a third aspect that I'm not sure if you are aware: visual arts articles with few sources and excessive detail, like this one, are typically products of the artist or someone close to them trying to promote them. That was the case with many of the articles at AFd that I nominated and have just been deleted.

I might also point out that in cases where the artist is clearly notable, I will frequently add many references, as I did in these edit of James Casbere, and these edits on Philip Lorca DiCorcia.

I hope this helps to explain the deletions. Let me know if you have any other questions. I know Wikipedia is a club, and those who have been around the longest are the most trusted, and that they are always watching the younger editors (sometimes with an eye to stringing them up at ANI and giving them a good thrashing).

I do think my reasoning is typically very good in these articles, which has to do with an extensive academic and professional background in the area. I'm hoping that the skepticism in your initial message might be tempered by what I say above. I'm not a willy-nilly deletionist-- every edit is reasoned. I imagine it is disturbing to see so many red-coloured deletions of material in my contribs list, however as I explain above, I'm thinking, not blindly deleting. Thanks for your note. PS: I did not count, but something like 30 articles that I nominated from the page list of American artists born in the 1900s have been deleted via AFD discussion. I hope that tells you something about the overall quality. There was a lot of promotional going on there. Some of what you quote above seems notable and interesting to readers. Encyclopedia's don't have to read like bus schedules, they can include background information, some information about the thinking of the artist, and other points which define the artists and their work to the reader. In the case of Grey, yes, that all fits well and defines who he is and the work he's done related to his art. Saying he's a "fringe" artist gives pause, as that seems like you are judging worth and are more likely to delete or greatly reduce articles on those kind of judgments. You obviously have a quick mind, and a keen eye for what you believe isn't worthy of an encyclopedia, and there is some of my concern. The speed with which you edit a page shows that, even with a quick mind, you may not be making a complete mental picture of the context of an artist's life and work and, in so doing, seeing what fits and what doesn't. I can only personally judge your style of editing on your cuts to the Alex Grey article, which were so deep and encompassing that they were obviously made, within a few minutes time, by someone who hasn't studied his work and the extent that Grey has used his art to extend his contributions to other areas, and visa versa. And if you took Grey so lightly, I have no idea how your edits are effecting other artists' pages. As for deletion scalps, I'm agin' it. I keep out of deletion pages unless I run across them or they show up on my watchlist, and then I look and comment but it is almost always sad because, when I do, I almost always find other pages listed on the same day which have little reason to be deleted. Maybe it's a mindset where editors like me draw a higher bar than other editors, and am usually surprised with what is considered fine-for-removal by deletionists standards. This comment, and my above comment, are not my usual way of meeting and greeting a fellow editor, so I guess I'm actually pretty concerned about what you are removing (artist's families and shows are fine too), and removing so quickly, from pages which may have nobody watching them, and thus you are free to chop down the trees without sounding in the forest. This is a wall of text now, so I'll leave off, but please, if only for consideration, ease up just a little on what you may consider non-encyclopedic. Thanks. Re Your Notability Comment on Lorena Ziraldo's Page

Hello, I have followed this page and noticed that you added a notability issue. I can understand that point but I would like to point out that this artist has been discussed quite a bit in major newspapers such as the Hill Times and The Ottawa Citizen. She is well known and has also been politically active with her call for a "National Portrait Gallery" (see these newspaper articles). Of course, one can always discuss notability but such a short article on a well known artist seems a useful addition to Wikipedia - no? Everything seems referenced and sourced. Hello and thanks for your note. I checked the page again and I stil think the tag ia appropriate, it might actually spur someone to hunt down further sources, for one. The only real solid source on the page is the Ottawa citizen article about her wanting a national portrait gallery. Bear in mind that the primary subject there is also the need for a national portrait gallery. Four Chronicle Herald sources are listed, and they have a very sketchy feel to them if you visit their website. WP tells me the Chronicle Herald is an actual newspaper in Halifax, but when I go to the web site the word "Halifax" is not even mentioned in the masthead. Four articles in the Herald amount to local coverage. If you also the last three references, you will see that they were uploaded to academic.edu by the article subject, who also uploaded her own image for the infobox. Add to that a bunch of gallery or non-independent sources, and you have a borderline notability question. I therefore placed the tag. Feel free to remove it if you can find some more independent sources with in-depth coverage!ThatMontrealIP (talk) 02:24, 11 November 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for this response. The Chronicle Herald is actually a very large newspaper. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chronicle_Herald reports: "The Chronicle Herald was also the highest circulation newspaper in the Atlantic provinces until recently". So, I really think you are looking at three real and serious newspapers: The Chronicle Herald (I believe that's the same like "Halifax Herald"), The Ottawa Citizen (both more than once) and the Hill Times. That's a fair bit of coverage. And I do know her, I own two of her paintings. I was curious about what standards you use for deletions and I noticed that you just created a page for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lauren_McCarthy. Looking at that page, it's kind of similar to Ziraldo, a short article on an artist with few sources. It's a judgment call, of course, but that page could also be proposed for deletion, conceivably no? Anyway, I do not doubt that the work you do is very valuable to Wikipedia, it's important to keep the quality high, but I still think that an artist who keeps coming up in the media across Canada should keep a short Wiki entry. I am just an occasional editor and mostly looking at local stuff in Ottawa. I don't think I have your experience. But I think it would be better to take the notice down. As for your criterion for the quality of a newspaper source, I find the "website looks terrible" comment not relevant. In fact, it's probably an indicator for how old and old-fashioned that outfit is. You admit you know her you. You uploaded her photo as well, so you must know her reasonably well. You have what we call a conflict of interest and should not be editing the page. That is clearly stated in WP:COI. We have those policies in order to maintain objectivity in the articles, which you may lack if you know her personally. The volunteer editors of Wikipedia dislike a couple of things very intensely, and one of them is promotional editing by people with conflict of interest. We even have a noticeboard for discussing such promotional editing: WP:COIN. Pages and users brought to COIN end up scrutinized by many editors. So, unless you would like to find yourself there, please stop editing her page. That said, you are most welcome to put your talents to editing a page on someone you are not connected to! Hi I saw that you moved some comments around on the deletion discussion talk page. This was not really necessary as I wasn't replying to your comment but to the above one. Comments do not have to be in chronological order and this can actually make the reply less clear, in this particular case it didn't make much difference. Help:Talk pages states "Add your comment below the last entry in the discussion. If you want to respond to a specific comment, you can place your response directly below it. Use a colon (:) to indent your message to create a threaded message". In the future please be careful about editing other's contributions on talk pages and avoid leaving instructions not to do things in the edit summary especially when there is actually nothing wrong. I didnt move your comment at all I simply replied to the comment above yours. I dont want to get into a pointless argument about this. Just take note that an editor can reply to a particular comment by inserting his comment directly underneath it and not under the last comment made. Thread just talks about indenting. There way have been a better way of indenting but there is no need to move a comment from where it was. I can only repeat what I copied from the help page "If you want to respond to a specific comment, you can place your response directly below it". You may not personally like that but it is very very very common authorised practice and you should really accept as ypu may find yourself reverted and told not to do it again. You can set it up to do so. Looks kind of neat, but I prefer the older, slower way of manually copying and pasting. I may have an irrational fear of AI. By the way, I may be coming around to your theory that "minor edit" fixations are used to disguise conflict of interest. For example... ahem, who appears to be a PR person or actually is a certain director of a certain English city's design festival, which is beloved by Jimmy Wales' friend Yana Peel. I didn't look at the Yana Peel history of COI; I only looked at the current state of the page and the request edit. Re marking all edits "minor", that's a big effort. For example. If you add 2K of text and mark it minor, that's clearly attempted circumvention of surveillance, although I think the software knows they are trying to do that. I mean, you have to click minor every time! Clearly intentional. I don't even do that, I just type "m" as it is faster.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 01:43, 16 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi @Herostratus: I think the changes I made were quite good, and carefully considered. See the diff. It was mostly removing inline links, which as you know are not allowed, removing the mission statement per Wikipedia:Avoid mission statements and removing the "individual recognition" section, which was an entire section on awards won by the individual people who work there. The article needs a lot of work to pass AFC, and I am fairly sure that my edits helped it in that direction. Let me know specifically which ones you think are not good edits though. Regarding the paid contribs tag, the creator of the article works at the organization, so it is highly appropriate to alert other editors that there are paid contributions. Hello, i am totally fine with whatever changes need to be made. That's why I asked for help and disclosed that I've been on Wikipedia for a few hours (more like 24 now). It may seem easy to understand all of it but I'm finding it quite hard. I'm not here to do something wrong. The organization had a page for a long time - maybe ten years I don't know - it was useful to people - I like Wikipedia and I do use it myself. I did my best to follow the delete talk and followed advice that the article was unlikely to get unrelated so best to start over. I did everything I thought I was supposed to do to disclose that yes I work for the organization. I'm not being paid to do this. I'm not trying to sell anything. I understand it would be better if someone who doesn't work for the organization wrote the article. Forgive I FCC I don't understand how a deleted page gets redone properly if no one is doing that - so I did it, in what I thought was a factual and well sourced manner. I asked for help and I'm totally open to suggestions. Mistakes that I made were not an attempt to do something devious. Thanks for correcting them. Hoping this experience becomes a little more positive - if for whatever reasons someone(s) are determined to keep this entry off wikipedia just tell me know. I'm not making a dime from this and I'm not trying to create the article as a path to becoming an influencer. Please be kind and try not to assign devious motives - if look at the article itself and the references you'll underhand nobody at LiveWorkPlay is getting rich and famous. We're just trying to make the world a better place and have had some notable success doing that. Thanks for your continuing help. I don't think I'm a "paid contributor" and I don't know why that's necessary, but if neutral people such as yourselves vet the article, isn't that the idea? I asked about if I could have the article undelated and multiple experiences people advised that wasn't likely so create a new one with more secondary sourcing. I couldn't see the first one but I did my best for what seemed like a lot of sources and I thought it was pretty drab and factual. I tried looking at other articles of similar organisations and to me this article was better than any I could find. But again if there are suggestions of examples that would be awesome. Please stop readding the tag - it does nothing as there's no real need to "clean it up" before it's in article space, and it won't be in article space until it's cleaned up. I'm going to clean up some of the language for the user later, but I think there's been a lot of problems all around - even at the "teahouse" which purports to be a nice place to get advice, and there's confusion from that. I'm going to note that the PAID contributor policy explicitly states that they must be paid for publicity - i.e. someone working as an Amazon delivery driver would not be considered a paid editor with respect to the page on Amazon. The relevant quote is in the definition of "payment or compensation": Users who are compensated for any publicity efforts related to the subject of their Wikipedia contributions are deemed to be paid editors. The EnWp policy, with this definition, is listed as a foundation-approved alternate policy which may be complied with - thus I believe, as long as this user does not work in PR, marketing, etc - with the organization, they do not have to disclose. Berchanhimez, I don't think you understand the paid editing policy. To quote a sysop who replied in the Teahouse thread, speaking of the editor who created the article, "You are definitively a paid editor. Full stop. There is no ambiguity whatever. You are compensated by an organization that the article is about, and are indeed someone seeking to "write about a topic with which they have a close financial relationship."". Well, I think I'm reading it for the letter of the policy. If a sysop is misinterpreting it, then the policy page needs updated (if it's correct) or the sysop needs corrected (if incorrect). The page wouldn't specify "any publicity efforts" if it intended to apply to all employees of a company in any department whatsoever. If one needs to be a publicist to be called a paid editor here, then all any company needs to do to engage in paid editing here is to not call the person doing the editing a publicist or marketer. It's not about what they're called - it's about if they've ever been paid to do "any publicity efforts" - no matter their job title. Asking for your sage advice

Hi Possibly! I notice that you're involved in almost every COIN discussion. I'm a bit confused how it works because it doesn't seem to be the same as AfD. How is consensus reached? Who makes the final call about whether or not there's a COI? Who is the one that adds the templates to the talk pages? When the template is added, is it permanent? Meaning that even 5 years from now if the article is completely re-written, if someone removes a COI template from the talk page, that edit will get reverted?

@Dr. Universe: I believe Possibly probably meant 14 days from the time the last post was made, not from the time the discussion was started. The last post prior to yours seems to have been made on May 24, and 14 days hasn't passed since that day. Now, unfortunately, it appears that your post (and subsequently this response made by me) has probably reset the clock, which means that the thread will be archived 14 days from today as long as nobody posts anything further. There's really no rush to archive discussions; most of the time they just end naturally when people stop posting and thus will eventually be archived at some point (if automatic archiving has been set up). If they're not archived exactly after 14 days have passed, then it's not really a big deal; moreover, if the thread is formally closed before 14 days have passed, then it might even be archived a little sooner (which again isn't a big deal). -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:20, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

@Soupmaker: I had a look. I don't think he is notable yet. If you take out the sources that are event announcements, confirmations (e.g. a faculty page) and other primary sources that are published by people he has worked with, then there is little to base the notability on. You could certainly move it to article space on your own (it does not matter when you made the draft) but I imagine it would get deleted eventually. You aren't ever really obliged to use AFC, unless a) you have not met the 10 edits/certain umber of days milestone (I can't remember exactly how many days/edits it is) or b) the article is an autobiography (even then it's highly recommended but not mandatory) or c) you are under some kind of editing restriction. I don't think any of those are true though. Bearcat, the editor who moved your article to draft, is a really excellent and highly experienced editor.
I imagine they saw what I am seeing-- that it promotes the subject a little too much, and perhaps needs more independent sources. You could ask them on their talk page. I hope that helps.--- Possibly (talk) 00:52, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

In addition I see that weirdly my career seems to have stopped 30 years ago or more, though when I last looked at the page a few months ago, the most interesting part of my professional life (1990 - 2021, spent with the RSC, in the West End, on British television and in the recording studio) was comprehensively covered. Has someone simply deleted chunks? I do not know how Wikipedia works, but am surprised that this is possible, and feel the information should be restored - at least in precis. Quite apart from all that, in the last four years alone I have published 4 more books, won 2 industry recording awards in the USA, been nominated for an Audie and have recorded perhaps 10 audio books for Naxos. Just to let someone know, as you were the only one who reacted to the oversensitive IP who decided to complain about me on the CoI board: it tried to bring the subject on the Administrator Noticeboard, and in removing the notice I accidentally pressed enter before changing the edit summary to note it's an overreaction that I feel has no need for intervention, specially considering it's not even from a registered account (the geolocator indicates the IP is from near Rio de Janeiro, so there is a high chance it's just someone who can't accept criticism of the president - Twitter is filled with those!). I just hope there was nothing wrong with my actions, unlike that IP that thinks I need to be banned. Regarding Paid editor

Hey, I am not a paid editor. I am just a editor like you. I created that article cause its a very notable brand. I add short info at one time that's why you can see a lot of edits on that article. My internet sucks sometimes that's why I write small-small lines in an article and publish it so that I don't lose anything I write. I am just a normal editor from India who likes to contribute to wikipedia as its a great source for information and knowledge and that too for free. You have to admit, it looks exactly like paid editing. Who lists "wireless earbuds, wired headphones, wireless speakers, home audio equipment, and an assortment of mobile phone accessories" three times in the article? Then you sourced that list to golden.com, which is a wiki. Hi, I just finished an article on Jadé Fadojutimi who is a significant up and coming woman artist in the UK. Her paintings are in over 15 permanent collections including the Tate and has recently been asked to participate in the Liverpool Bienniel. Her article was marked for speedy deletion and was deleted. Leo Regan/Iman Amrani

Hi Thank you for moving the biography of Leo Regan to article space. I have been following his work for years, since i was one of the few able to interview him for BBC Radio when he published his first book. As a journalist and multimedia producer I have been researching work, particularly on mental health and was to find out that two of his documentaries have become cult classics among young people in the UK. I searched for more information and couldn't find a wikipedia page on him so I figured I would write a short one.

You asked about conflict of interests around Iman Amrani. I don't see that there are any. She was a colleague of mine during my time at The Guardian and I have watched her career closely since then. She has consistently broken glass ceilings in terms of race and gender with her work and brought a whole new audience to the platform for which she works. Her groundbreaking Modern Masculinity series was nominated for an RTS Award and won a Webby this year and resulted in her being a regular contributor on podcasts, international conference panels, TV shows, including Russell Howard on Sky and Al Jazeera. She is also recognised as a culture journalist who has interviewed and profiled the most powerful musicians in Belgium, France and Latin-America and as a reporter she has covered Grenfell, Bataclan, Guatamala Earthquake and race. Again it surprised me to see that such an influential journalist didn't have a page on wikipedia so I thought, as a journalist, I would give that a go too. Hi @DoubleGrazing:. IIRC, the draft was too big of a mess to rescue, and the notability borderline. There seemed to be quite a bit of hype, surrounding the sources and work. In such cases I tend to leave them alone, as I cannot be sure how much of the coverage is generated through promotion and how much was objectively reported. I recollect my snarky remarks at WP:COIN and in retrospect it wasn’t polite of me, please this has nothing to do with the ANI, and in no manner an attempt to change your point of view or anything of the sort. What saddened and still saddens me is the epiphany I was exposed to a day ago. I had always wondered why “ThatMontrealIP” stopped editing, your userpage always looked familiar each time I came across it and wondered why it always looked familiar and It wasn’t until yesterday I saw that you had your name changed and made it very publicly, (I mean it was boldly written on your Userpage) and this is quite forlorn, because prior this, I recollect having had a good working relationship with both “ThatMontrealIP” and even as “Possibly” even when I didn’t know that you were one and the same person, I wasn’t having a bad day when I made the comment, so I really do wonder why I made the comments, and even if I was having a bad day, it isn’t still justification for my comments at that venue, I try to do the right thing but I err every now and again, and I’m grateful for each and every opportunity to learn. Virginia Berresford

Hi Possibly. Would you mind taking a look at this artist? I was wanting to add her to one of the Deaths in 1995 pages, and was hoping to find a date of death only to discover discrepancies among sources as to when she was born and when she died. This source for example, give her year of death as 1993 not 1995. Art Net, while not the best source, give her birth year as 1904 and not 1902. So... @4meter4: bad news: I found sources with the DOB as 1902, 1904 and 1914. I've added them, clumsily, to the article; feel free to change that. I am guessing that 1914 is a typo. Further: It seems like the most common dates given are 1902 and 1904 for birth; 1995 is almost always given for the date of death, with 1996 given very rarely.

Wikipedia sources

Hello you made a topic on the Inuyasha/yashahime character talk page. I want to work on it and fix but is there any Wikipedia guidelines in what to include, what not to include, and anything else I may need? Do we go with wordy flowery language with adjectives or just plain to the point.

Example: when you trimmed the page. This was part of a sentence “committing a heinous act by mercilessly slaying Setsuna”.

It was changed to. ”as he committed an unthinkable act by slaying Setsuna”

I changed it back because to my knowledge I would imagine Wikipedia would want it was originally but less wordy but I also removed mercilessly.. what I have “ committing a heinous act by slaying Setsuna,“

Honestly, I think “slaying Setsuna” would be the best.

I have added a COI statement, although I am not actually being paid. Your insinuation that I have been knowingly doing something wrong for ten years and thanking me for "admitting" I'm being paid is beyond insulting, but I will no longer engage in an "edit war" with you or any other faceless, nameless entities. I believe your edits are malicious and possibly politically-motivated in nature. I'm not sure what I can do about it or who to report your behavior to, but when I have time I intend to look more into it. @Macklevine: It sounds like you are upset, but it was extremely obvious that you have been using Wikipedia for self-promotion of various projects for about a decade. You have recently also confirmed this on your user page. We want Wikipedia to be impartial, and not the product of self-promotion. There are policies and guidelines in place to prevent the use of Wikipedia for promotion. The COI and PAID editing policies are very standard. This is run of the mill stuff that happens every day. All you need to do is a) disclose which articles you have a COI with (this is pretty obvious though), b) commit to not edit them directly, and c) use their talk pages to request edits instead. That way we ensure that Wikipedia remains neutral. Can you do that? Those three things are all that is required. You can still create articles, but they have to go through AFC, the same way the Black Seed article did. By the way, if you want more editors to read about this, post at WP:COIN, as has been mentioned to you numerous times. On the topic of UPE

I’m sorry I’ve been away a long time. I hurt myself real bad during a sports competition. So I was unavoidable absent and couldn’t participate in the ANI I filed. You do make a very valid point here. The way I see it, an ARV (should in my opinion) be implemented for overt possible UPE. Asides you in COIN and MER-C (who is only human) there isn’t any real defense mechanism against unethical practices which makes cases like the aforementioned continue irrespective of our TOU on Paid editing. The way I see it, if it so happens that I come across the same editor creating questionable articles, I would open a fresh ANI, using the now archived entry as anchor and propose and indefinite ban on creating articles on biographies on living persons and organizations because statistically speaking at least two-third of all dubious looking articles seem to be targeting both topic areas. How they have managed to escape two COIN reports from Bri and the currently closed ANI is indicative that there is something we (as a collaborative project) aren’t getting right just yet. Hello Possibly, in your comment in the deletion discussion page for the article on Maggie Siner, you say that "I cannot find any sources that are in-depth and independent. There are one or two good mentions, but no record of museum collections or significant shows outside of the private gallery circuit that might make her meet criteria of notability". While references 3 to 9 already provide in my view a good list of in depth and independent mentions, I found several additional substantial sources, including in-depth articles on an independent high ranking newspaper (The Washington Post) by art critics, that in my view nicely complement existing sources to address criteria of notability. I also found that Siner's work is currently being displayed at a museum in New York, along with works from several very notable living or deceased artists, who have a Wikipedia page. All these additional secondary sources are listed in the Request Edits that I placed in the Talk page of the article. I also provided the citation needed for the biographical info. @DGG: my mistake, a sourced quote is of course fine. I missed the quotation marks in Earwig, and given the size of the article, which is pretty bloated, jumped to conclusions too quickly. Anyway, it would appear that the article does not have much of a future, unless someone takes the time to fix the inline sourcing and trim the article down. well, I've started. (There's no actual need for inline, except for controversial material or material questioned or likely to be questioned or judgments--or , in this case and as is frequent with artists, how to handle the more impressionistic parts of his motivations. But it looks like it was assembled from various sources; there are really solid sources in the NYTimes reviews, and I think he's important enough to be worth it. If nothing else serves with unsourcable material, I just cut it out. It'll still be in the history. And if I can't finish, the NYC chapter has many people who like to work with articles on the fine arts, and mos tof them know better than I how to do it. But here's what's odd about WP--I would never have noticed this if you hadn't marked it for speedy for I spotted it during my usual admin check to delete at CAT:CSD. @Hoary: you are of course correct, and I have reverted that edit. I had missed the fact that the source was mentioned in the text itself and not as a cite book etc. inline. Regarding having one article for the two brothers, this quote made me think it was a good idea: "Scott Gentling was the more accomplished artist, even by his brother’s admission, but he was also the more retiring of the twins. Hi. You can't typically use personal materials as sources: family letters, family newsletters, diaries etc. We do not build Wikipedia pages based on family archives. We build them based on publicly available information that has, in most cases, been published by a reputable source. See WP:RS and WP:OR for more, and specifically WP:PRIMARY which says "Do not add unsourced material from your personal experience, because that would make Wikipedia a primary source of that material." --- Possibly ☎ 18:16, 25 September 2021 (UTC)

I intend to follow policies and be fair as much as possible. Yes I attempted to edit Manhattan House but that wasn't a paid edit. We are five friends who are being taught about how Wikipedia works. We were just editing and practicing. There was no aim to defame or promote a topic. I will not edit Manhattan House's page again as I've learnt it's not okay to do the way I was trying to do. But yes, please don't enlist my account as a sock-puppet as there is no intention to defame or promote. My latest edit was indeed a paid one by the company itself. Please guide me how to declare and so I will. I am fair and honest and so I'm not being ignorant about anything here. Thankyou. Looking forward for your response.
