A few precious minutes of cleanliness ruined by some bloke on the other side of the planet. How you doing my man? Thanks for the endoresement on meta for OTRS by the way. Pedro : Chat 08:57, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You'll be the best OTRS dude in a while, I think. Things are good...I've been doing a lot of content review lately. It's what writers who can't write do! :) (You should try it some time; I'm sure you're sick of CSD!) dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 09:01, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, plodding through CSD take its toll after a while. I actually wrote my last DYK because Keeper and I were talking idly about wine - maybe I need to have another rambling chat to inspire me to get out of the gutter and up to the lofty heights of you article writing guys. To be honest I've actually been doing a lot of reading of Wikipedia recently. It's only when you read the stuff you realise how far we have to go - and equally how far we've already got. </philosophy> ! Pedro : Chat 09:06, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I know the feeling. Using Wikipedia for school leaves me optimistic and pessimistic on a regular basis. Depends on the subject and how many dedicated authors we have. It's a shame I can't write about science and am demoted to Australia alternative rock! (Though, hopefully, someone finds it useful...) dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 09:10, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good - in a word! this was a minor trip - did you mean a different speedy criteria? What's you current policy on adding welcome templates? I've seen a number - it looks like after you've reverted vandlaism, so no bad thing, but go steady on welcoming IP's - particularly dynamic ones. Vandalism reversion looks spot on. How are you getting on with the Expelled article? I see you've backed away from it per my advice - did that help you get some perspective on it? Pedro : Chat 12:59, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, my mouse was acting up that day. Yes, that helped me get some perspective (and sleep). My current policy on adding welcome templates is just adding them as I go along but if I see a registered user that has vandalized and hasn't gotten a welcomed, I usually do that, and pretty much the same thing for IP's. RC-0722247.5/113:11, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I see nothing really wrong with welcoming IP's. There still part of the community, and a valuable resource, just because they havn't got an account why not. Glad that stepping back has helped out - it does at times! Pedro : Chat 13:28, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you feel ready - return. Hopefully the break will give you fresh perspective and added value to bring. The talk page would benefit from your input IMHO. Pedro : Chat 20:32, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there! I've noticed you around, and I definitely think that you are a great user that helps out others. I have a question. Do you think you could look at User:Razorflame/Admin Coaching and look at my answers to some what-if questions and reply there? I would like a different opinion on the matter than my admin coach. Cheers, Razorflame15:31, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the consideration. I asked Iridescent to do this first, but I decided that I would ask you instead of Iridescent because frankly, Iridescent scares me a little. Cheers, Razorflame15:34, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
He - Irridescent's a superb admin but very straight talking! It may be this evening (WP time) before I can review - about to go off-line for a couple of hours. Pedro : Chat 15:46, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No worries my man. It was a touch out of process so needed to be checked, but I don't think we need an OMG ANI thread on it; just a quick review by a couple of other admins in case of an reprecussions whilst I'm offline. Pedro : Chat 15:40, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Caltas, who you recently granted rollback rights to, is getting himself into trouble with his new tool I'm afraid.[1] Maybe a quick word from you will persuade him to slow down and be more careful? --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 20:07, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Deeply concerning from a user who, if I recall correctly from my granting the right, has something like 20k edits and over a year of tenure. Thanks for the heads up. Pedro : Chat 20:16, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You'd be suprised just how close my family actually is to her Majesty....! I'm setting up a new laptop and will sort e-mail out as soon as I can - please bear with me. Pedro : Chat 20:15, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Pedro. I would like to thank you for your support in my RfA and the confidence expressed thereby. I appreciate your trust. :) Best wishes, —αἰτίας•discussion•18:54, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The candidate did in fact want his RfA transcluded he emailed me to request that I do it for him, also I think this states he wanted it open, but did not know how. Just thought I would let you know. Cheers, Tiptoetytalk17:29, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. As I said, the fact that you transcluded made me not even bother checking the rest of it - when I see a trusted name on something like that I tend to assume it's a done deal! Thanks for the heads up. Pedro : Chat 18:39, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Mentoring
Not sure if you noticed recent activity on your mentoring page. I suppose if I wanted more commentary, I shouldn't have posted on the Friday night of Memorial day weekend... oh well. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs18:40, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Pedro!
How are things? I have recently noticed many 'guestbooks' popping up on Wikipedia. I couldn't find a guideline; do we have a policy on guestbooks? Regards, --Cameron (T|C) 18:56, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Non pedro response. "You keep asking how they [signature books] help build an encyclopedia. But you also link to Wikipedia:Esperanza. I think that is your answer, no? Anything that builds a spirit of friendliness and co-operation and helps people get to know each other as human beings seems to me a good thing. Unlike divisive userboxes, the autograph books seem to just be about saying hello and being friendly."[2] Jimbo Wales on signature books. RC-0722361.0/119:44, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
We discussed this editor last week briefly, agreed to AGF and let him try out rollback. History of use looks almost entirely incorrect at this point, virtually none of the rollbacks have to do with vandalism. Per my current practice (which by the way I am open to suggestions on), I normally just go to the admin who handed the rights over to let them know, instead of warning the user.
