Yom Kippur War

I am not the one on gawaher.com, i do not know that site any way. Egyptians were different. a national Geographic documentary suggested that Ancient Egyptians looked different from each other just like modern Egyptians; Besides that In Ancient Egypt, the person was considered Egyptian, if he lived like an Egyptian and followed the way, and the culture of the Egyptians, regardless of his/her race. So you reject that Egyptians have Arab ancestry and you believe that they should not be called Arabs even if they identify as Arabs. Okay, you consider yourself having Egyptian ancestry and you claim that in ancient Egypt that a "person was considered Egyptian if he lived like an Egyptian...regardless of his/her race." So according to your logic, one can identify as Egyptian even if he isn't racially Egyptian. Now in the past 1370 years, your ancestors identified as Arab, I am not sure about your grandparents and parents, but definitely at some point you had ancestors that followed the culture of the Arabs and called themselves Arabs. Since "the person was considered Arab if he lived like an Arab...regardless of his/her race" then that must mean you have Arab ancestors as well. :D Aside from that, Muslim Arabs originating from the Arabian Peninsula did intermix with Egyptians. It wasn't a missionary mission in which they converted and left, they settled there. I am not claiming that everyone (or most) in Egypt have ancestry of Arabs from the Arabian Peninsula either, but it is certainly a possibility for many Egyptians (perhaps even you). BTW, like other people, Egyptians have ancestry from various peoples, race isn't clearly defined. Arab is an identity rather than a race. I don't see why you would reject it in the first place. I wouldn't be telling you this if you were a Copt, and it seems that you have the best interest of Muslims at heart BTW. You would not want to aid the fitna, that is, division between Egyptians and other Arabs such as this poor Yemeni here. I understand that the motivation behind these words might be very noble, as not to bring "elfetna" between Muslim. However, Islam is not dependent on a single identity. That would mean that according to this point of view, Arab Muslims are somehow closer brothers to Arab Muslim than non Arab Muslim. And that is not the way it should be. All Muslims are equal, and none is better than the other according to his race, or culture. That answers why there should not be a "fetna" between Arabs and Egyptians when we state the truth of our identity, and BTW there it is a very well known fact that most Arabs hate or at least do not like Egyptians.

When i read what u stated up there, i want to say a laud Citation needed. I mean, where is the evidence behind all of these claims about that Arabs settled in Egypt? Arabs of the Arabian Peninsula, or "Arabia" -the real Arabs- are less in population than Egyptians. Currently Arabs at Arabia are about 55 millions, while Egyptians number more than 80 million; meaning that the combined population of Arabia is less than 70% of that of Egypt!

If you have evidences for these claims, please let me know, if not, please stop believing in them.

Ban Arabism had a political motivation, not a religious one as it's initiators claimed. Islam ended tribal wars between Arabs because now Islam unified them, not Arabism; i.e. their religion, and not their identity.

It seems to be that you had two main points which are;

• 1- Most Egyptians have Arab ancestors; The supposition of that Arabs migrated to Egypt, and it was not only a missionary campaign, needs to be proven, besides that even if it was proven to be true, the vast majority would not have pure Arab ancestry since Egyptians interacting with various other races throughout their history, absorb these foreigners into the Egyptian community. Maybe that’s why perhaps most Egyptians have foreign ancestry when it comes to races, but all are Egyptians when it comes to identity, which in turn is not dependant on the race of the individual.
• 2- The Arab identity is a way to unify Arabs and Egyptians, two Muslim-majority communities; since Egyptians are Muslims, is not Islam enough?

Egypt has been dependent from the rest of the Muslim world throughout its history expecting for the early periods of Islam in Egypt. There have been times very critical to Islam that it would have collapsed but for Egypt, and i think that that is more than enough for unity.

Egyptians are the descendants of Misraim, unlike Arabs whose ancestor is Shem.

Among the Muslim world, there is diversity of languages and cultures, and that is appreciated. There is no interest on my part to have everyone who is Muslim to become Arabised and I don't think that there should be an extra special bond between Arab Muslims that can't be shared with non-Arab Muslims. In addition, the Copts are another group that retained their culture and did not Arabize, so I don't argue with them about their idenity. My problem is with Egyptians who try so desperately to force division between Egyptian Arabs (Egyptians who identify themselves as Arabs) and other Arabs. What is to them if an Egyptian says he is an Arab and that he has Arab ancestory? Why spend so much time trying to hide the links of modern Egyptians and their Arab ancestors? I am fully aware of the cyber warfare taken on by a few Egyptians to try to erase Arab from the history, culture, and the language of Egyptians. Why I am appealing to you and not to other Egyptians? Because you're a Muslim, you have the best interest of Muslims at heart - trying to cause division where there was none is fitna. That is my opinion, but I am not accusing of this fitna.

You need sources from me to prove what you have already admitted? Yes, as I said before, Arabs settled in Egypt. BTW, Egypt population grew over the +1,000 of years, it didn't start off at 80 million when Arabs began settling there. Who knows, Arabs probably matched the Egyptians in numbers at the time they settled. Perhaps they settled in uninhabited areas of Egypt, and their population outgrew the native Egyptian population. I don't have the population figures. But the truth is settlement did happen, intermingling did happen, the acceptance of Arab culture, language and identity did happen.

The population of the Nile valley and the delta, which are home to the overwhelming majority of Egyptians, forms a fairly homogeneous group whose dominant physical characteristics are the result of the admixture of the indigenous African population with those of Arab ancestry. Within urban areas (the northern delta towns especially), foreign invaders and immigrants—Persians, Romans, Greeks, Crusaders, Turks, and Circassians—long ago left behind a more heterogeneous mixture of physical types. Blond and red hair, blue eyes, and lighter complexions are more common there than in the rural areas of the delta, where peasant agriculturists, the fellahin, have been less affected by intermarriage with outside groups.

When the Arabs settled in Egypt, the Northern, more nomadic, tribes preferred the similar environment of Upper Egypt, whereas the Southern, Yemeni, more 'agricultural' tribes preferred the rich stretches of the Delta. I am not underweighting your last contribution, but actually i did expect more. I mean when i saw that the page have grown up some seven mega bytes, I supposed Oh my god, the guy added seven megas! did he write a whole article?!. In another word, i think that you have just repeated what you already stated before. There are too many "what if"s! The two sources you provided suggest that foreign races have been absorbed among the Egyptian society, and that is what i stated up here. We do not have to analyze the DNA of every one carrying the Egyptian identity to see weather he/she has a pure native Egyptian ancestry with no foreign elders in order to suppose that he/she is a real Egyptian!

What amazes me here is that you have just divided the Egyptian society into two religious groups, Copts, and Muslims, and divided the later into another two sub societies....I mean why? In order to call us Arabs?!

The 2007-08-07 figure might be counting other nations as it is mentioned in the Geagraphy subarticle with a map showing that the geagraphical definition is wider than the political definition? Fahd-240

Hey One Last Pharoah I suggest moving that article. I think we should just name it Fahd (APC} or Fahd (IFV), and then mention variants, such as the Fahd-240 in the article itself. At the beginning i thought that the old version was called Fahd-240, and that the 280 designation is for an upgraded version, but i have read a Jane report calling the Fahd-240 the latest member of the Fahd family. So i agree we can rename it Fahd Armoured Personnel Carrier, because the first variant was originally and APC, like in case of the M113 article. The Fahd-240 is an upgrade of the Fahd, and the Fahd 280-30 is even a further upgrade in terms of armament. I moved the article to Fahd Armor Personnel Carrier.

Hey I noticed something. In the picture of the Kuwaiti Fahd, I can see a machine gun that looks like the M60 machine gun. The UN Fahd's also have machine guns that differ from the PK machine gun mentioned in the article; they look more like M249 squad automatic weapon or FN Minimi. Or it could be the M240 machine gun. I'm not sure about the weapon used on the UN Fahd. Can you confirm? Also, what about the Mercedes Benz truck? I can't find the chassis anywhere. Sherif9282 (talk) 20:12, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Infact, i even noticed that on another picture of an Egyptian Fahd, the commander was operating an FN MAG. The official sites do not specify the type of the machine gun, it only stated it's caliber, and the FN MAG uses the mentioned caliber. So maybe it is that the FN MAG is used on versions without the BMP-2 turret (on the commander hatch side), and that the PK, and PKM machine guns mentioned by other source(s) were meaning the secondary armament of the BMP-2 turret. BTW, we produce the FN MAG under license (see Egyptian Army, Light weapons), so that makes sense.

I do not know about the truck, i did not find the name of the truck used by the Fahd in the wikipedia article, but i found vehicles with a very similar set of wheels to the Fahd. One last pharaoh (talk) 20:28, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think that these informations belong to the section of the anti-riot variant. They should not exist in the APC variants sections

If you checked the factory's website, the Fahd with the BTM-208 turret was not specified as an Anti-Roit variant. It was mentioned under the other variants, implying that the turret could be added to them (the website is very poor unfortunately).

I meant Kader Factory web site [5] it has six different links for six different variants where the one with the BTM-208 turret is one of them. I cannot find any information about the mine laying version any where, i think maybe we could find some thing useful in the mines section in the AOI website. Also, check out the article about the Kuwaiti Army. It shows the army's post-war equipment. This includes 100 Fahd 280 (I think it means 280-30). I know, Sherif. My point is that the vehicle with that turret is an independent variant, so we should mention the specifications of the turret is this variants section, not in the APC section. Other sites that talked about the "small/light turret variant" stated that it can use a water cannot instead, and other equipments such as the steel grader is stated to be for anit-riot rule, and shown in the photograph for the BTM-208 turret by the kader site. The thing is that, as you said yourself, the small turret variant can be fitted with a water cannon instead. The anti-riot variant would never have a turret fitted with the 12.7 and 7.62 mm machine guns mentioned on the factory website; that variant is not used for killing people, only for dispersing riots. That's why I said that the turret, and information about it should be mentioned under the Fahd 240. That variant would definitely use machine guns. Well, how about giving it the name the factory web site gave? The water cannon application possibility is mentioned in the section already, and upgrading with a light turret possibility is mentioned in the Fahd-240 section, so all we have to do is renaming the section, giving it the name the factory originally called in it's web site, and we get out of this confusion. LOL me too! I was wandering around seeing where i can make a small contribution before i log off, but seams that any more improvements should be radical generally. My plan is to add a new section to the Design characteristics subtitle talking about armament, mentioning all armament systems used in different variants with talking a little bit about the weapons it self. like the M1 Abrams article where information about armament systems it self (not how it fits, or how many ammo the vehicle carry for them) are taking a nice part of the article. Also a Protection section talking about the protection levels, and a little bit technical information about welded steel and sloped armour. Finally, additional images should make the article look better. If all of that is done, i hope enough users will vote for the article for featured article status. BTW, the official site stated that the machine guns uses the 7.62x51mm caliber, and that is a NATO calliber, so that's one more hit for the FN MAG. Fahd GA nominations

Hey man, I've got alot of suggestions, especially about the comparison. First of all, the Fahd isn't exactly better armed; all the APCs u mentioned except the Stryker can have variants with cannons and missiles. Secondly, you can't compare them together because there are many variants. In the table for example, you mentioned the Fahd's armament of a cannon, MG and missile, and then you write the passenger capacity is 10, even though the capacity of the Fahd 280 30 is only 7. It's just going to be confusing to readers. If you're going to compare it you'll also have to mention that it does not have amphibious ability, that it has less armor, and that, compared to the Stryker for example, it has less computers and electronic equipment. I am planning to make another one regarding only the Fahd-280-30 variant with other wheeled IFVs, and modify the present comparison so that it is talking about the Fahd APC variant compared with other wheeled APCs (aka. excluding the BTR-90 and the LAV-25). The Fahd has amphibious abilities dude. I think that the Fahd is better armed than most of the others. I meant with the statement that when compared with another contemporary vehicle, the Fahd would provide similar abilities, and would be better in one or more ability. Wow, I have never seen an article about anything in Egypt THAT good! It can definitely be a GA article in the Egypt WikiProject. However I don't know about the Military history WikiProject. I will inspect the article further tomorrow and see if anything needs to be modified.

For the assignment.....well, it did not go as expected. The presentation was supposed to be presented by three persons including the maker (moi). We did not have enough time to finish it properly, and it ended up being presented by only one of us (not moi), which in turns made it much weaker than planned to. What makes me not very sad is that only one of "the big five" showed up; The professor responsible for the whole french department did not come, the professor responsible for "La filière" did not come, and so on. Finally, the French professor whom we were making the presentation for turned out to be not very useful at the moment at least, and there was no urgent need to impress him. Yet, the effort done was not a total miss, as people impressed their admiration.

I think that you do not have to do that. I mean, the number of the edits is enough, and what really matters is not how much, or how many times you edit; the real value of your contributions is not measured by bytes. If you want to know how much progress you've really made, see the version of the article before you started editing, and the version of the same article after you are finished. The reason i did so was that the hook moved was an old version that does not satisfy the rules. Photos

It's really bad all those Fahd photos were deleted. Here's link though. It shows pics taken of the Kuwaiti army in a parade, and it has at least three Fahd pics. I believe the pictures were taken by the user who uploaded them. The website is probably something like Flickr. The copy right for these images is "all rights reserved", meaning that the uploader is saying "Stay away fromma picos !" i.e. No can do omigo. I tried to contact the uploader to ask for permission to publish the images in wikipedia; Picasa web is part of google i.e. you have to have a Gmail (google mail) account ,because that would be your picasa account. The problem is that the uploader does not provide his gmail address, so i do not know his email. I'm almost finished with the October War. It's now over 100 KB. Just a (another) disagreement to work out between men and Raul654 (again...), and then I'm done. I've got school exams so I wont be visiting the Wiki for about a week. After the exams I'll finish with the Badr article and see if I can get it to Good Article at least.

Then I don't know... I think I'll be contributing to the WWII Mediterranean Campaign! I've got a huge book with me about the subject, and I could put it good use and try to bring a few articles up to FA status. I just don't know what else about Egypt I could write...

You know I'm really disappointed with the WikiProject Egypt. There aren't any articles under collaboration aside the Cairo Metro, and generally the members themselves arent very active. I've posted a note in the Photo Requests section 11 days ago and recieved no reply. I told Diaa, the project coordinator, about this article: Women in Egypt, but looks like he ignored my message and gave me no reply at all. I might as well just take my name of the members list man!

october war

I have been trying to edit the october war article (the part were refuse to remove Israeli tactical victory and refuse to add Egyptian strategic and political victory). At the end of the war after the first and second engagement Egypt held more territory and controlled the Suez Canal while israel had lost territory so its supposed to be a strategic victory for Egypt(supported by many sources). As for the casualties comparison I have many sources that claim that the Israeli sources in percentage terms was more than the Arabs. being under that license means u can copy, distribute and/or modify it.

All u need to do is simply taking that image, opening it with Paint, and using the Fill with color tool to fill any color u want to any country. That's the way i did it.

North Yemen Civil War

My edition to this article, I do not consider funny or an act of vandalism on my part. This is a fact I added because I visited Imam Ahmeds Taizz palace, which is now a museum and have seen the mask, which is on display, along with his bed, adorned with coloured lights to scare off any superstitious assassin and numerous empty whiskey bottles which he indulged himself with.

1RR on all articles related to the Arab-Israeli conflict

WARNING: ACTIVE ARBITRATION REMEDIES

All articles relating to the Arab–Israeli conflict are currently subject to active arbitration remedies, as laid out during a 2008 Arbitration case, and supplemented by community consensus in November 2010. The current restrictions are:

• All articles related to the Arab-Israeli conflict broadly construed are under WP:1RR (one revert per editor per article per 24 hour period). When in doubt, assume it is related.
  • Clear vandalism, or edits by anonymous IP editors, may be reverted without penalty
  • Editors who violate this 1RR restriction may be blocked without warning by any uninvolved administrator, even on a first offence.

Tendentious editing

I do not have the energy nor the time to deal with such editing, so I won't edit-war this out. But I won't keep tolerating this any further. One more edit like that and I'm taking you to the appropriate noticeboard, if this is what it takes to make you understand that Wikipedia is not your POV playground. • WOW ! slow down. what's wrong ? Assume good faith. I again advice you to re-read wikipedia guidelines on editing. To name a few in this message alone, it's not yours to tolerate, you should assume good faith, you should not edit-war. Furthermore, you should not remove an entire section overnight without any note or discussion on the talk page, you should not war other editors about wikipedia rules, you should take appropriate action whenever needed and not war about doing so.
• Please re-think your next edits, because my day off is Monday, and I would love to find out that you fully understand that wikipedia articles are not subject to personal POVs, that they should not be built upon disputes but rather collaboration, and that as an editor you should not have to "tolerate" or warn other editors. Egyptian military history

Hi Mahmood, I thought you might be interested in joining the recently started WikiProject Egyptian military history. As the name suggests, the purpose of the project is to increase cooperation between editors involved in the vast subject area of Egypt's military history, share sources and ideas, and spearhead efforts to create missing articles and improve existing ones. We just started a week ago and hope to improve the project in the coming weeks and months. If you're interested, you could add your username to the members list, and feel free to add to any of the sections on the homepage regarding "Missing articles", "Tasks" and "Resources".

On a side note, I'd like to apologize for my behavior the last time we interacted, which was also the last time you made an edit on Wikipedia. Looking at your contributions history here suggests that you were were a decent editor, and I'd feel really bad if I was the one who drove you out with my attitude. I tend to be like that sometimes (usually when I'm in a bad off-wiki mood), and I assure you it was nothing personal. Please accept my sincere apologies and do consider coming back. March Madness 2017

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

• tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
• updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
• creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. April 2021 WikiProject Military History Reviewing Drive

Hey y'all, the April 2021 WikiProject Military History Reviewing Drive begins at 00:01 UTC on April 1, 2021 and runs through 23:59 UTC on April 31, 2021. Points can be earned through reviewing articles on the AutoCheck report, reviewing articles listed at WP:MILHIST/ASSESS, reviewing MILHIST-tagged articles at WP:GAN or WP:FAC, and reviewing articles submitted at WP:MILHIST/ACR. Service awards and barnstars are given for set points thresholds, and the top three finishers will receive further awards.
