User talk:One last pharaoh
Please click here to leave me a new message. Yom Kippur WarHello One Last Pharaoh! I've been working on improving the October War article, adding Egyptian sourced info and so on. I have this problem I hope you could assist me in solving. Do you have an Arabic copy of Saad El Shazly's book, the Crossing of the Suez? If you have one, or can obtain one, let me know. Thanks in advance.Sherif9282 (talk) 12:23, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks a million One Last Pharaoh! Hope you'd join in from time to time. Alot has been added (15,000 bytes of information!) and more is still to be done. It really is very nice and rewarding to work on such a project. Thanks alot once more. Sherif9282 (talk) 15:14, 3 January 2009 (UTC) I have a small question. How do I change the name of an article? I wanted to change the name of the article The Crossing to Operation Badr, which was the name for the Egyptian assault. I can see you're very busy so thanks alot in advance for taking the time to reply. Take care. Sherif9282 (talk) 15:51, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

(A late one) Orwa diraneyya (talk) 10:04, 10 January 2009 (UTC) Ofira Air BattleHail my Pharaoh! I see ur still busy in real life. Thanks to you I managed to move the article about the Crossing to Operation Badr. Now I was wondering if u could participate in this AfD. Only two comments have been made and it seems to be at a standstill. I dont know any other admin around here. Thanks for ur time. Sherif9282 (talk) 12:05, 18 January 2009 (UTC) Just out of curiosityHave you posted at gawaher.com before? There was this person who is half-Egyptian and half-Turkish and he reminds me of you. I was just wondering if that was you... BTW, you look Arab, are you sure you don't have an Arab person somewhere in your family tree? :D --Falastine fee Qalby (talk) 00:08, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Fahd-240A tag has been placed on Fahd-240 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding
Hey Pharoah, looks like the article deletion tag has been removed. Good job finding out about this APC, I wonder how you do that. I'll see if I can help expand the article. Sherif9282 (talk) 20:11, 26 January 2009 (UTC) BTW, are u more free in ur time these days? Sherif9282 (talk) 20:22, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Congrats ya man! Hope u make isa. I myself have some exams coming up. Take a look at this truck: Mercedes-Benz Unimog. Maybe this is the truck refered to in the Fahd-240 article. There is another armored car made on the basis of this truck, and made by the same designer of the Fahd-240: Thyssen Henschel UR-416. Sherif9282 (talk) 03:40, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Fahd-240 DYKCould u please nominate Fahd-240 for the DYK page? The article is great and deserves to be DYK. Your contribution is great and resourceful. If u want to have a precaution against speedy deletion, add {tl|underconstruction}} to the article's top. Thank u very much for improving the Egypt related Article.--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 10:14, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Archive pleaseI suggest u archive your talk page. It is becoming realy long. --Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 10:16, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Fahd-240Hey One Last Pharoah I suggest moving that article. I think we should just name it Fahd (APC} or Fahd (IFV), and then mention variants, such as the Fahd-240 in the article itself. I'm not sure if the Fahd qualifies as an APC or an IFV, but I'd go for Armored Personnel Carrier. Sherif9282 (talk) 15:09, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
BTW, great work with the October war. I was planning to make it a surprise, but here it goes; wait for the barnstar :D One last pharaoh (talk) 15:22, 27 January 2009 (UTC) The Fahd-240 is an upgrade of the Fahd, and the Fahd 280-30 is even a further upgrade in terms of armament. I moved the article to Fahd Armor Personnel Carrier. Wow man! That barnstar would really mean something! I devoted a lot of time to that article; it's the first time I took an article so seriously and I'm really impressed with it now. Thanx alot man! :D Sherif9282 (talk) 17:11, 27 January 2009 (UTC) Hey, tell you what. Before making anymore additions to the article we need to reorganize the references. Sherif9282 (talk) 17:59, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Bring them on. :D Sherif9282 (talk) 18:58, 27 January 2009 (UTC) Considering that the Fahd article is only two days old, it's looking pretty good already. Did you nominate it for DYK? Sherif9282 (talk) 19:52, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Hey I noticed something. In the picture of the Kuwaiti Fahd, I can see a machine gun that looks like the M60 machine gun. The UN Fahd's also have machine guns that differ from the PK machine gun mentioned in the article; they look more like M249 squad automatic weapon or FN Minimi. Or it could be the M240 machine gun. I'm not sure about the weapon used on the UN Fahd. Can you confirm? Also, what about the Mercedes Benz truck? I can't find the chassis anywhere. Sherif9282 (talk) 20:12, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
I suppose we should change the info in the article then. If you can't do it now, I'll do it tomorrow then; I'm done myself for today. About the truck, I was talking about the Mercedes-Benz Unimog. Maybe you can google search to check it out. Sherif9282 (talk) 20:38, 27 January 2009 (UTC) Hey man. I changed the bit about the machine gun caliber. By the way, I think you did the DYK correctly, although the article's name has changed from the one you wrote on the DYK page. Also, weren't there several pictures in the article, such as the Kuwaiti Fahd and the UN Fahd? What happened to them? Sherif9282 (talk) 12:22, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
I removed the info about the turret in the anti riot section because it I already mentioned it under the Fahd 240 section. By the way, I think that the current Fahd's are all either 240/280s or 280-30; the original Fahd's must have been upgraded to these ones. Sherif9282 (talk) 20:52, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
If you checked the factory's website, the Fahd with the BTM-208 turret was not specified as an Anti-Roit variant. It was mentioned under the other variants, implying that the turret could be added to them (the website is very poor unfortunately).
Also, check out the article about the Kuwaiti Army. It shows the army's post-war equipment. This includes 100 Fahd 280 (I think it means 280-30). This might mean that the Fahd's captured by Iraq were returned to Kuwait, and then we upgraded them to Fahd 280-30. What do you think? Sherif9282 (talk) 20:52, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
I know you were talking about the Kader Factory website. It does not specify that the variant with the BTM-208 turret is the anti riot variant. It only says With BTM-208 turret. That's it. Sherif9282 (talk) 21:26, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
BTW this article states that Kuwait's post-war purchases included Yugoslav, American, Russian and Egyptian armored vehicles. Sherif9282 (talk) 21:26, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanx. What about the anti-riot variant? I really think the info about the BTM-208 turret should be added to the Fahd 240 section. Sherif9282 (talk) 21:37, 28 January 2009 (UTC) Ignore that question, I didn't read ur post. Sherif9282 (talk) 21:40, 28 January 2009 (UTC) The thing is that, as you said yourself, the small turret variant can be fitted with a water cannon instead. The anti-riot variant would never have a turret fitted with the 12.7 and 7.62 mm machine guns mentioned on the factory website; that variant is not used for killing people, only for dispersing riots. That's why I said that the turret, and information about it should be mentioned under the Fahd 240. That variant would definitely use machine guns. As for the anti-riot variant, we simply write that the turret is fitted with a water cannon instead of machine guns. Sherif9282 (talk) 21:51, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
One more thing. I found this website, hosting pictures taken of the Kuwaiti military last year. You will find at least 2 pictures of the Fahd there, which can only mean it is still in service with the Kuwaiti Army. Sherif9282 (talk) 22:00, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Well man, looks like I won. Hehehe... Alright. I'm going to reorganize the article. Hey, I've noticed some articles referring to the Fahd 240 as the 280 (without any turret) and vice versa. So I'm going to change the article to suit that.Sherif9282 (talk) 22:11, 28 January 2009 (UTC) I added some new info based on the Egyptian Army article. That's it for me today man, I'm really tired ;).Sherif9282 (talk) 22:39, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
If you're aiming for FA status then we'll also have to provide more inline citations. You should take a look at other APC articles to get an idea of how you should outline the article (as you did with the M1 Abrams article) Sherif9282 (talk) 22:01, 29 January 2009 (UTC) Hey Pharaoh, I made a major find! Here's the link to the mine dispensing system on the Fahd. I'll leave them to you. Sherif9282 (talk) 05:14, 30 January 2009 (UTC) I think we can try to nominate that article for GA status on the military history and Egypt projects. Yes? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sherif9282 (talk • contribs) 11:37, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
I found this website with info on the Fahd exports. When I tried to add the source to the article, a spam filter removed it because it was a blacklisted hyperlink?!?! What does that mean? Sherif9282 (talk) 16:29, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
New Article!Alright then, the Fahd has reached a respectable status so far, so I created a new article. This is the first article I created. It's about the Egyptian Infantry Fighting Vehicle. Gathered several sources so far and working on adding them to the article. Sherif9282 (talk) 20:21, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Fahd GA nominationsHey man, I've got alot of suggestions, especially about the comparison. First of all, the Fahd isn't exactly better armed; all the APCs u mentioned except the Stryker can have variants with cannons and missiles. Secondly, you can't compare them together because there are many variants. In the table for example, you mentioned the Fahd's armament of a cannon, MG and missile, and then you write the passenger capacity is 10, even though the capacity of the Fahd 280 30 is only 7. It's just going to be confusing to readers. If you're going to compare it you'll also have to mention that it does not have amphibious ability, that it has less armor, and that, compared to the Stryker for example, it has less computers and electronic equipment. Sherif9282 (talk) 04:01, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
This discusion should take place on the article's talk page. Sherif9282 (talk) 13:20, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Help neededHey man, can u categorize the Egyptian Infantry Fighting Vehicle for me? I don't know how to do it. Sherif9282 (talk) 11:37, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
Isa u will succeed man. Hope u do well. Sherif9282 (talk) 16:08, 2 February 2009 (UTC) QuestionHow's your assignment going? I have a question for you. I want to know how many edits (aside minor edits) I made so far, and I want to calculate the size of information I added to the Yom Kippur War. Do you know a way to do this? Sherif9282 (talk) 14:42, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Sorry to hear about ur assignment, wish u better luck with the next presenation. Ur answer helped me, but I was hoping for a little more, specificaly I wanted to find the size of info (in bytes) I added to articles. Sherif9282 (talk) 17:22, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

PhotosIt's really bad all those Fahd photos were deleted. Here's link though. It shows pics taken of the Kuwaiti army in a parade, and it has at least three Fahd pics. I believe the pictures were taken by the user who uploaded them. The website is probably something like Flickr. So I think this makes the photos available to the public domain, no?Sherif9282 (talk) 17:53, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

I'm almost finished with the October War. It's now over 100 KB. Just a (another) disagreement to work out between men and Raul654 (again...), and then I'm done. I've got school exams so I wont be visiting the Wiki for about a week. After the exams I'll finish with the Badr article and see if I can get it to Good Article at least. Then I don't know... I think I'll be contributing to the WWII Mediterranean Campaign! I've got a huge book with me about the subject, and I could put it good use and try to bring a few articles up to FA status. I just don't know what else about Egypt I could write... You know I'm really disappointed with the WikiProject Egypt. There aren't any articles under collaboration aside the Cairo Metro, and generally the members themselves arent very active. I've posted a note in the Photo Requests section 11 days ago and recieved no reply. I told Diaa, the project coordinator, about this article: Women in Egypt, but looks like he ignored my message and gave me no reply at all. I might as well just take my name of the members list man! I heard the Picasa guy allowed the use of 3 photos! Hope they're added soon. Yalla ya man... Good luck wiz ur college. Little presents from FahdWhen you copy or rework the table from the article Fahd (armored personnel carrier) and add it to other armored vehicles, you often forget the world "url=" in front of the reference for "BTR-3U" and "Type-92 IFV". october warI have been trying to edit the october war article (the part were refuse to remove Israeli tactical victory and refuse to add Egyptian strategic and political victory). At the end of the war after the first and second engagement Egypt held more territory and controlled the Suez Canal while israel had lost territory so its supposed to be a strategic victory for Egypt(supported by many sources). As for the casualties comparison I have many sources that claim that the Israeli sources in percentage terms was more than the Arabs. According to William Burr it was equivalent to 200,000 losses in the US army. Here are my sources all Six Part BBC documentary which is supposed to be a neutral source clearly states and I quote "It is hard to say whose the clear victor of this war" and that Egyptian side was the side that gained the most. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XztQ28ZUXs0 Here is also the link to part6 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHpzPCGp1Ek&feature=related —Preceding unsigned comment added by Omarello2 (talk • contribs) 07:07, 9 September 2010 (UTC) Here is a link that to the national security archieve which states that the israeli 2600 soldiers in percentage was equivalent to 200,000 Americans. http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB98/index.htm an article by Pierre Tristam that describe in details The Egyptian/Syrian-Israeli Disengagement Treaties of 1974 and 1975. http://middleeast.about.com/od/arabisraeliconflict/a/me080421.htm I tried to contact the moderator to replace Israeli tactical victory with military stalemate or at least at that Egypt strategically and politically won the war but he did not respond. "Political and strategic gains for Israel and Egypt" is misleading because israel lost territory to Syria (Quneitra) and lost parts of sinai to Egypt including the Suez Canal. --Omarello2 (talk) 08:34, 9 September 2010 (UTC) The Milhist election has started! The Military history WikiProject coordinator election has started. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page. If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Tendentious editingI do not have the energy nor the time to deal with such editing, so I won't edit-war this out. But I won't keep tolerating this any further. One more edit like that and I'm taking you to the appropriate noticeboard, if this is what it takes to make you understand that Wikipedia is not your POV playground. Egyptian military historyHi Mahmood, I thought you might be interested in joining the recently started WikiProject Egyptian military history. As the name suggests, the purpose of the project is to increase cooperation between editors involved in the vast subject area of Egypt's military history, share sources and ideas, and spearhead efforts to create missing articles and improve existing ones. We just started a week ago and hope to improve the project in the coming weeks and months. If you're interested, you could add your username to the members list, and feel free to add to any of the sections on the homepage regarding "Missing articles", "Tasks" and "Resources". On a side note, I'd like to apologize for my behavior the last time we interacted, which was also the last time you made an edit on Wikipedia. Looking at your contributions history here suggests that you were were a decent editor, and I'd feel really bad if I was the one who drove you out with my attitude. I tend to be like that sometimes (usually when I'm in a bad off-wiki mood), and I assure you it was nothing personal. Please accept my sincere apologies and do consider coming back. March Madness 2017G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement. The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also. The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now. For the Milhist co-ordinators.
