January 2020

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Peter Wright (darts player): you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. Recent speedy deletion tagging

You recently tagged a number of redirects to various decade pages with the reason "not the same thing". That may be true, but that is not one of the speedy deletion criteria. I have declined the speedy deletion requests. The criteria are intentionally narrow and strict, and a page that does not pretty clearly adhere to one (or more) of them should not be tagged for speedy deletion. Do not remove deletion tags from pages you have created. The notice above is a courtesy message. Empty categories are deleted 7 days after they are originally tagged unless they fall within a small list of exceptions. Wikipedia guidelines do not allow for the creation categories in anticipation that they might be needed some time in the future. If the category no longer is empty during the 7 days after it is originally tagged, the tag is removed. If the category is deleted and, in the future, is needed, feel free to recreate it. Thank you. @Centrist1: What I did is open the SVG in a browser (here), open the browser dev tools, use the pointer in the top-right of the dev tools in Chrome to select a county, then change the fill value inside the element.style { section in the dev tools to a different colour. After I'm done I scroll up, right click the element that starts with <svgxmlns:dc... and copy&paste that into notepad, saving the file as a .svg. Hi @MasterMinedMyWayOuttaHere:, Wikipedia prefers secondary sources (news articles, etc) over primary sources (the website of the subject, etc; for example Minecraft.net or Spigot.org), and user wikis such as the Minecraft Wiki shouldn't be used either. Hello Nixinova. I am quite new to Wikipedia and was wondering why you deleted my image on the Hypixel Wikipedia page. Does taking a screenshot of a build that I didn't make count as my own work or not? I thought taking pictures counted as my own work on Wikipedia. @Npthura: "Own work" only applies if the image is 100% made by you. "Taking pictures" does mean it's your own work, but this isn't a picture. In this case the copyright is owned by Mojang. See WP:COPYRIGHT for related info.  Nixinova   T   C   01:57, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What did you mean here that my edit was "marginal"? If it was marginal, then surely it was not revert worthy? I think there was a misunderstanding because I was actually trying to revert the same edit you reverted (the longer messy lead), but since you already reverted it and we edited at the same time, it only changed my other inofobox edit (I did not get an edit conflict warning), making it looking like I was reverting that when I was actually trying to revert the mess to the lead, for which I thank you again. :) Davide King (talk) 03:27, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, my name is Aubernas. Concerning the 2020 NZ Election, I feel my lead is the best choice. I spent a very long time writing it, and trimming it is harmful because the lead is what most people read. The lead should only contain information critical for understanding the events that took place. Surprise electorate upsets and stuff like that aren't critical facts, and people looking at this page from other countries don't need to know that stuff to understand the election, so it's just too much information to give and makes the reader have to sift through the intro to find the critical information. The lead should be the basic information necessary for understanding the subject matter. I know several articles about elections that are as long or longer, and they are the best articles because they give the best snapshot of information. So can we please agree to keep it my way? I've put your lead here for safekeeping. Take a read through MOS:INTRO to see what I'm saying: The lead section should briefly summarize the most important points covered in an article in such a way that it can stand on its own as a concise version of the article. (emphasis mine). Those points you've re-added aren't the "most important points" relating to the election, and are better suited to the Results section where people who are interested in those aspects can read through the article to find them. The lead should cover only the main important points: party vote results, majorities, coalitions, dates, etc. Other stuff like electorate results, demographics of the parliament (which should also probably be on 53rd New Zealand Parliament instead) aren't critical information, so they shouldn't be front and centre in the lead.  Nixinova   T   C   03:35, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In particular, The results of the "Covid election" ... member for Nelson since 1990 and In a surprise victory ... "consigning him to political history" isn't critical lead-worthy information, as that is just pure results of electorates that aren't critical for understanding the election; Crushed in the last election ... did in previous terms of Parliament is Maori Party campaign info, also not fitted to the lead; the most LGBT+ members of any national parliament is trivia, which should also be taken out of the lead  Nixinova   T   C   03:41, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
