2010 WikiCup Signups Reconfirmation!

To ensure that everyone who signed up is still committed to participating in the 2010 WikiCup, it is required that you remove your name from this list! By removing your name, you are not removing yourself from the WikiCup. This is simply a way for the judges to take note of who has not yet reconfirmed their participation. If you have not removed your name from that list by December 30th, 2009 (by 23:59 (UTC)) then your name will be removed from the WikiCup.

It's worth noting the rules have changed, likely after you signed up. The changes made thus far are:

  • Mainspace and/or portal edits will not be awarded points at all.
  • Did you know? articles (which were worth 5 points last year) will now be worth 10 points.
  • Good articles (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
  • Valued pictures will be now awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.
  • Featured lists (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
  • Featured portals (which were worth 25 points last year) will now be worth 35 points.
  • Featured articles (which were worth 50 points last year) will now be worth 100 points.
  • Featured topics (which were worth 10 points per article last year) will now be worth 15 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
  • Good topics (which were worth 5 points per article last year) will now be worth 10 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
  • In the news will still be awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.

If you have any final concerns about the WikiCup's rules and regulations, please ask them now, before the Cup begins to avoid last minute problems. WP:CHU/SUL

Hope you'll forgive me for editing your comment but I thought it best not to cause confusion. WP:CHU/SUL is the board we use for requests relating to SUL for convenience, but it is not possible to rename all accounts with a given name across Wikimedia projects. Were such a "global rename" function to become available, it would no doubt be allocated to stewards, with requests being made on meta. Currently the correct advice to someone changing their name with accounts on many wikis is that they would have to make rename requests on all those wikis if they want to keep the accounts as part of their global account. Thanks for the note. I generally agree that AfD should not be used to improve articles. However in this case the article was in violation of WP's policies on living people since it had no sources. That's what the various notifications are for. Alternately, you could also work to improve the article yourself instead of just doing a drive by tagging or AfD nomination. Hi, you blocked this user as a sock of User:WHDT. I'm not certain that this was right however considering WHDT was told when blocked "Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username". I admit that their few edits were disruptive but blocking them immediately seems a bit over the top in my opinion. He wasn't blocked only as a sock. In fact, the full block edit summary states, "Disruptive editing: sock of User:WHDT who was blocked for username violations, came back and continued edit warring". The block notice on his talk page states, "You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for for continued disruptive editing under multiple usernames on the WHDT article." Ok, but WHDT wasn't ever warned about edit warring either, so again blocking them for this seems a little unreasonable to me. Also from a little research it seems as though the edits they were making may have been correcting inaccuracies in the article which seems fair enough in my opinion (see Talk:WHDT#Sources_suggesting_it_is_online). If the edits were made in good faith and were correcting an error in our article then it seems like they'll be quite annoyed for being blocked as a result. If they request to be unblocked, all the circumstances surrounding things will be considered. The fact remains that they were edit warring and blocked under one username and immediately came back under another and began edit warring again. This is completely unacceptable, and the reason for the edit warring is irrelevant. Reference requests

Hello! I have a request according to your entry at WikiProject Anime and manga Reference Library. I'm currenty trying to write "futanari" section in hentai article at ru.wikipedia, but I got BIG problem with sources. Google Books mentiones almost nothing about the futanari phenomenon. However I think that Manga: the complete guide page 452 [1] contains some information. Unfortunately, I don't have an access to the book here in Russia, so would you be so kind to help me with getting some information? It's be absolutely great, if you could copy some thesess on the futanari history, or at least refer me to futanari anime/manga examples. How could I recover passwords from my other accounts?

There is no way to combine multiple usernames into one username. What I would recommend is just selecting the one account you want to use and just sticking with that one. Ownership in article Brazil

Hello. The article Brazil has several issues, the main one is the fact that it's simply huge and overly detailed. In accordance with Wikipedia:WikiProject Countries and taking as model other Featured class articles such as Canada, India and Peru as I explained in here. As I made the changes, I explained carefully why and where I made them such as in here.

However, editor Rahlgd reverted all with no explanation at all as it can be seen in here. He is the only one who can edit the article without being reverted. Just see the history log in it. Also, this is not the first time he reverts an edit.

Daiko Group

Hi Nihonjoe. I think it's nothing short of a crime against the project that more and more AfDs seem to end up this way. "Consensus" to keep, good reasoning from solid, experienced editors, closed as "Delete". We all know the sourcing is out there. One just has to be in the right place with access to the sources. What's wrong with having a sourced stub on the subject? And what is gained by the deletion? It's outside my area of knowledge & experience, but I'll keep my eye open for potential sourcing and let you know if I find any. Happy holidays to you and yours. Thank you for re-opening it. Can you explain to me why I am getting so strongly opposed here? Why people including admin are being so rude to me? Why there are so many hateful comments to me? Also could you explain to me why I am being considered "disruptive" just for applying? I really do not understand why I should be punished for simply applying? Are you saying that if I fail and apply again I will be punished? Can you please show me the site rule that says that you can be punished for applying. And when I say site rule i do not mean someone's personal interpretation of a rule. I mean where it actually says that applying is against etiquette and is punishable. I have looked throughout the site and cannot find this rule. Hi Nihonjoe. I hope you don't mind terribly, but I've re-closed the RfA. It makes no sense to waste a week of the community's (and the candidate's) time in allowing this RfA to run its full course. Anime misinformation vandal going too far.

Sorry to disturb you, but remember the vandal from the 118.137.0.0/16 range? The guy has constantly returned to reapply his brand of vandalism under a multitude of IP addresses outside the range, going as far as using a Mexican IP and two Singaporean IPs to do so. Here is the list of IP address he has used for the past few months.

Hope to hear your say ASAP because when he strikes again is now unpredictable. The only certain thing is the longest quiet period between his periods of vandalism is an estimated 20 days. - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 10:49, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

HBC AIV Helperbot

Hello. In response to this request I have finally gotten around to making this simple code change that teaches the bot to do this instead of this. I am sorry it took so long but all of my programming skills are being used up at work these days.

I understand you wanted to add functionality to remove headings when there is one below an empty one, however I really don't have time or desire to work on that. This bot is open source and also open to collaborative editing so you are welcome submit any code changes to the bot operators and we are likely to adopt it if it is an improvement. I suggest that if you do implement such a feature that it be opt-in only(ie does nothing if you don't turn it on) so that the existing behavior of the bot is not unintentionally effected on the other pages it serves. It was deleted (over three years ago!) because it "met Wikipedia’s criteria for speedy deletion as an article about a band, singer, musician, or musical ensemble that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject. See CSD A7." I have userfied it at User:Jerrymcrash/Antarctica (band). All of the references in the article are either from the company itself (two of them) or just giving statistics. You need to add reliable third-party sources, meaning sources which have no direct connection to the company. Indefinite protection

Hi, I just lowered the protection of Japanese people because it had been protected for several months and hopefully the edit war will not continue. Generally, I don't think it's necessary to indefinitely fully protect articles, except in extreme cases. They can be forgotten and then will miss out on any contributions and development. The movie and OVA sections are very heavy. I think they need to be expanded a bit and split into more paragraphs. As it is, they are difficult to read. Hi there. Last March, you semi-protected this article indefinitely, as it was the subject of an edit war and BLP-violating edits; however, the dispute appears to have been settled, and the article is no longer attracting much attention (7 edits in the past 6 months). I believe that protection should be used as sparingly as possible, and only for as long as is necessary; it seems to me that it is not here, and it is probably safe to unprotect the article. Do you know of any newspapers or magazines that have written articles about him? Macrons, etc.

Hi, Nihonjoe. I noticed another editor moving Japanese biographies from macroned to non-macroned titles. "Shūji" to "Shuji" for example. I suppose this is something that has been discussed to death at MOS-JA, and "consensus" has, I suppose, chosen wrong. I know there is no one "right" way to transliterate from Japanese, but there are definitely wrong ways. "しゅうじ" can be transliterated "Shuuji", "Shūji", "Shûji", or any other conceivable way which lets us know it's a long "u" rather than a short one. "Shuji" is unacceptable in anything purporting to cover Japanese subjects in anything near a "reliable" way. The excuse I was given for making our page names incorrect was that the subject's "Official site" spelled it this way. This would not be an acceptable excuse even if it were true. But it turned out the subject apparently has no official site. When that seemed to sink in to the wrong-page mover, "most common spelling" was cited. That reasoning is even shabbier. Anyway, I know I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but I'm going on the "Drama-out" and don't want to stir up a fruitless discussion at MOS-JA. Dekkappai (talk) 17:44, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
