Hi- As a newbie and grad student part of a cohort studying Wikipedia for a summer elective, could you clarify how the link I made to the City of Edmonton website was promotional- is it promoting the City of Edmonton government or otherwise unfairly disallowing a NPOV? In linking to the site I thought it was providing an unbiased source of further information on bridge construction. Article review and assessment

It has come to the attention of several Ambassadors and mentors that some students are attempting to participate in official review and assessment of articles, primarily for Good Article status or in attempts to review the work of their classmates. Others are offering second opinions to an official review being performed by other editors. Unrequested second opinions oftentimes lead to disputes. While the enthusiasm and initiative is admirable, it is actually inappropriate for new or inexperienced editors to review or assess articles in any capacity. The Good Article process, review, and assessment requires thorough understanding of the project's policies and guidelines, specifically pertaining to the Manual of Style, verifiability, neutral point of view, and the ability to accurately identify copyright violations, reliable sources, and topical, as well as general notability guidelines. GA Mentoring

Thanks for your note. I'm happy to help you through the GA nominating and review process. Full disclosure: I'm not as active on Wikipedia as I once was and haven't been through GA in a while; however, I'm happy to brush off the cobwebs and give it a go.

The article you're considering looks promising. I will examine it closer on Friday; this weekend I can give you a few tips on how to prepare the article for GA review. I have glanced over the Jackdaw article you wish to nominate for GA-status. My overall impression is that it's close to GA material. There's a few items to attend to, most of which are noted on the article's to-do list. There's one or two citations needed, such as the bit about Halych's coat of arms.

Importantly, there are at least three editors currently working on this article. I recommend posting a not on the article's talk page mentioning your interest in nominating the article for GA status. Ask for their feedback on when/how to nominate. I noticed that Casliber has been very involved with this article. He's quite experienced with the GA nominations/reviews and will have some useful input.

New 10,000 Challenge for Canada

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge is up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile!
