The type of change you made here is great. You also noted in the summary that you had a definative source. Please include the source in your edit to comply with verification standards of wikipedia. You can do this by typing in "[http://www.wikipeida.org comment]" after the information - the comment is optional - that will make a nice external link or without a comment a footnote like link[[1].

I hope my comment above didn't discourage you from editing the article. Verifiability is a big issue on Wikipedia - something that doesn't get done enough. With negative information on living people it is a must. With this kind of info - we need to get it sometime but not immediately. If you're referring to the fgms, ftms and rebounds, then my sources are old NBA guides or similar texts . . . but a lot of this stuff can be corroborated on the web. I used to have more books, and could probably have filled out the list for the pre-1980's 60+ point games . . . but unless those books are packed in boxes in another state, I may no longer have them. Speaking of a "brawl"

Don't know whether you've been watching Talk:Japanese American internment but there's a pissing match heated discussion going on between Critic-at-arms and History Student. I suppose that it's OK as long as it stays on Talk, but I'd prefer to keep HS on good behavior. Don't know whether you have any thoughts on this matter. --ishu 06:12, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I had not been following the "debate" until you brought it to my attention . . . HS seems determined to generate controversy, and from HS's edit history it's clear that the JA Internment is his/her sole topic of concern on Wikipeida (does this qualify as an obsession?). I'm not sympathetic to HS's viewpoint, so I won't claim impartiality when I state that I hope that HS leaves the forum and article soon and on his/her own volition. At the same time, I don't want to wade into the middle of the fight as I simply don't have the time, energy, or inclination right now to join what appears to be a futile war of words. Oscar Robertson

Thanks for the compliment, I'm actually not done copyediting the Big O article. I only have occassional time to give, but I'm trying to finish it up. I have a request if you could help me out, though. The pic of Robertson in the infobox was removed, I think because it wasn't free use. I'm no expert on the fair use, free use, or any copyright subject so I usually don't mess with pics. But if you or someone else could upload a good picture for the article, I would appreciate it. Five-by-Fives in the NBA

Hey, I noticed your comments on the double-double web page. That is good stuff and I was searching specifically for it in thinking of the greatest ever double-double. I know Wilt is the only person to ever get a double triple-double and the list of quadruple-doubles is 4 long so it's easy to see it all.

The next step would be a five-by-five. Since no one has ever had a quintuple double, this is the analogous stat. If someone gets 5 in all 5 categories, that's a five-by-five, maybe you have heard of it. I don't know much about making a page on here. I just add info so I thought since you were interested in this type of stuff, maybe you'd want to. If you don't, that's cool. Here's the best page I know about... it's on basketball-reference.com. He has all box scores from the NBA from 1986-87 through the last completed season and he can just search through them with a computer search. So, I asked if he'd look up all the five-by-fives once and he did. Any way, here's the web page with the list of the 14 occurrences in that time span

I'm about 99.9% sure it hasn't happened this year because about the only people capable are Marcus Camby and Andrei Kirilenko and I look at their stats regularly to see if they got another one. Camby was 1 steal or so short not long ago and just 2 stat points short a couple other times in the same one month period but he has not attained it again. Kirilenko's stats are downhill this year so he hasn't gotten close.

Also, I have no idea how many occurrences have happened in the previous years before 1986-87 (and after steals and blocks were recorded). You seem to have more knowledge of how to find these things that are not just sitting on a web page somewhere. Odds are, not many.

I believe Hakeem and AK have the record for most in all five categories... that is they both got 6 in all five categories in one game, on the list. I think AK did it in regulation and I know Hakeem did not. Even though this guy does not have box scores from before that, I believe I saw a link once stating Hakeem's 6 of each was a record (possibly on ESPN.com). Then, AK did it last year.

Another stat that might be interesting, and along the same lines, is the career quintiple-whatever. That is, who has the best career highs in all five categories... more specifically, I'm about 99.9% sure no one has 10 in all stats for career highs and that's easy to verify (though I have not taken the time) since 10 steals has only happened 19 times ever and I could just check career highs in blocks for those people. But, has any one ever gotten at least 9 in all five categories for a career? I'd say 8 is a for sure. Yea, Hakeem has gotten 8 steals once at least.

Five-by-Five

Alright, I created a page for a five-by-five. I still have work to do on it but I have a lot finished. Again, I don't know if you can help at all but if you have any way of looking at stats for years 1973-74 through 1985-86, that'd be nice as most of the stats recorded are only from 1986-87 on. The guy from basketball-reference.com has all box scores from that season on but not the ones from before.

Also, I just found a Sportingnews.com article which states that besides AK and Hakeem, seven others have done it once (and those two are the only ones with multiple games). Thus, the only possible five-by-fives not already listed on the page are from Hakeem's first two seasons, 1984-85, 1985-86... and then there are two other people who have done it one time. So, though this still leaves tons of searching, it narrows it down a lot.

Question

I started the basketball five-by-five page at "Basketball_five-by-five". But, I don't like that name. I guess I didn't realize that's the name that would appear at the top of the screen. Not to mention, the f's aren't capitalized. Is it a big deal to delete a page? I'd like to move it to "Five-by-Five (Basketball)" and delete the old one. Bowie Seamount

Wilt Chamberlain

Here's my argument that Wilt never fouling out of an NBA game is significant:

1. He played center, mostly around the basket, both on offense and defense, which lends itself to collecting a lot of fouls. Surely, most centers and power forwards of Wilt's era knew how to draw a charging foul. 2. The nearest competitor in the "never fouling out" category according to NBA records is 0-for-645. Wilt was 0-for-1045. 3. Also, most of the names that appear on the "never fouling out" list are guards, who don't commit that many fouls to begin with.

I agree that Malone's streak of 1212 straight without fouling out is very worthy of note, but this streak started in 1978. He had four seasons of committing fouls before that.

And, during Wilt's time, the number of fouls before fouling out was five. I believe it was expanded to six in 1974-75.

Again, my opinion.

Elevation

Well, that elevation is actually how high the volcanoes are below sea level. I ment the elevation above sea level. I seen you added the elevation to the Bowie Seamount as -24 m (-79 ft), but I can't seem to find the same for the Tuzo Wilson Seamounts. Black Tusk 21:24, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wilt's 100 points

Hey Myasuda. I didn't mean to start an edit war with you on the Wilt Chamberlain page.

You might be interested in the the following sources: [4] , where Marc Stein contends that Kobe's 81 was a greater than Wilt's 100 and [5], an analysis by John Hollinger.

The second link requires a paid subscription, but in it Hollinger points out that had Bryant "played for an additional six minutes and scored at the same rate (hardly an unreasonable assumption, given how much gas he appeared to have at the end), Kobe would have finished with 93 points." Kobe is in exceptional condition and could have played all 48 minutes, had Jackson wanted to run up the score. So my POV--backed by articles like this--is that he was playing at a pace that threatened Wilt's record. Your POV is that the record was not threatened. That's why I've deleted the sentence altogether. It's subjective and not NPOV.

Hi Myasuda, I see you're making some substantial edits to the Columbia River article. Not sure if you're aware, but it's currently a Good Article candidate. As such, it's probably best to discuss changes on the talk page first -- not sure if there's a policy about this, that's just my opinion -- so that any editor doing a GA evaluation has a fairly stable version to evaluate.

Please research before removing information

You removed the line about Mark Wahlberg and PCP.

I understand that your edit was in good faith, however the citation is provided. It is citation [4] from Inside the Actors Studio. He mentions he was under the influence of PCP while robbing a pharmacy. If you watch to watch it you can find it on youtube.

Sihugo Green

You recently added the Boston Celtics 1965-66 NBA champions template to the Sihugo Green article. Can you confirm that Sihugo Green received a championship ring for the 1965-66 season? While he played in 10 regular season games for the Celtics that season, he did not play in any of their playoff games. My impression is that he was no longer on the roster during the playoffs and was thus not eligible for a championship ring. If you have evidence otherwise, please notify me. According to page 229 of this year's media guide, he was part of the team. And a player doesn't have to play in playoff games to be officially on a championship roster. He must just be under contract with the team during that time. I am aware of everything you've stated. But you haven't provided evidence that Sihugo Green was still a part of the roster during the post-season. Incidentally, this is why Butler is not eligible for a ring (he was traded mid-season). Curiously, even though Palazzi was sold during the season, he is listed as part of the 1956-57 Championship team. Here's the proof. So what shall we do? Moses Malone

The reason for my cite on Moses Malone being the fourth player to play professional is because Tony Kappen was 27 years old whe he signed to play with in the BAA. That's not what I would really cal straight from high school in my book. While Graboski and Connie Simmons were 19 and 21 respectively. I have no problem with the addition, and I agree Coach's total was probably higher. Some of the stats on this NBA page are odd (Jerry West with 81 career steals? Heh). Odder still, this official site is obviously updated all the time, as I track Jason Kidd slowly creeping up on Mark Jackson (though no one will probably ever topple Stockton's 15,806 - and that's just fine with me). Your dedication is fierce, and I won't alter the addition, but maybe there's a way to research it with the NBA statisticians (I see you're "into" mathematics by your credentials :>) to see why some of these stats are recorded like this. Coach Sloan didn't play 755 games in his last three seasons, and neither did West record 81 steals in 932 games and manage a 2.61 SPG average. Explanation

My objection is not about retaining differential geometry under the geometry section but instead about the form that its inclusion has. If you take a look at the sections Algebra or Analysis for example, all their subsections bear a title: e.g.: Theory of Equations, Abstract Algebra, Complex Analysis etc. But in Geometry there is a first part of works from different branches of geometry (elementary, synthetic, analytic, axiomatic) and the only subesction that bears a title is that of Diff. geom. For reasons of consistency, I would like the first subsection of Geometry to bear a title as well, but I doubt that there is such a generic term that covers all these oeuvres; perhaps Traditional geometry as opposed to Modern geometry (differential, algebraic, symplectic)? --Omnipaedista (talk) 09:41, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Section break on NBA Drafts articles

Thanks for adding section breaks on the draft articles. I agree that section breaks are needed since the lead are becoming too long and wordy. However, I don't really like the section titles, it's too long and too descriptive. I am thinking of a shorter titles such as Draft selections, Draft overview or just Overview. The Draft section titles also could be changed into Draft board to make it clearer. Any thoughts on this? By the way, any reason why you stopped at 1979 NBA Draft? Good points. Recently I also have been thinking that the lead is becoming too long and wordy with draftees' future achievements mixed with the players selected. That's why in my most recent rewrite of the draft article, the 1981 NBA Draft, I started to have a separate paragraphs on the draft overview from the players future NBA achievements. I tried a new arrangement in that article that trimmed down the lead significantly. Any thoughts on this?
