Olduvai Hominid 8 ‎

I write with regard to my short (soon to be expanded) entry about the Olduvai (OH8) foot. It was found by Richard Leakey's father Louis Leaky in the early 60's. I spent the early '90's working on this assembalge at The University of Western Australia. Currently I am working on this and other pedal fossil remains at The University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg with my academic collegaue, Dr Bernhard Zipfel. I am new to writing for Wikipedia, and am learning quickly. However, I assure you of the facts.

about Bettina Varde´s article

I cleaned Mrs. Varde´s curriculum. Also, I never had contact with her in person. Only a few emails asking pictures and data confirmation. I never saw Bettina Varde in person despite we live in the same country.

If actors, actress and dancers born in the USA has spanish wikipedia articles why people born outside USA are forbidden at english version ?

There are plenty of notable people from Argentina (see Category:Argentine people), but User:Ttonyb1 nominated your article for deletion on grounds of WP:Notability. I see that you've already contacted User:Ttonyb1 about his nomination for deletion, so at this point it's up to you to find some WP:References from WP:Reliable sources to show notability, both for Bettina Varde and es:Bettina Varde. fairs and funfairs

hi muffledthud, i'm not sure the change you just made in the category for "speyer brezelfest" is correct. it looks very much out of place in "annual fair" category, even though it is an annual funfair. oktoberfest and all the other big german fairs should then also be in this category, but they are not. perhaps you'd like to reconsider. cheers.Sundar1 (talk) 11:59, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

El Parador Cafe

Hi

I created a page for a legendary restaurant in New York City, El Parador Cafe. It is 50 years old, the oldest Mexican restaurant in NYC. There are plenty of other wiki pages about commercial dining establishments (e.g., the Four Seasons). I was hoping that the page could be properly userfied and then re-launched. Pls advise. Thanks.

The speedy tag got replaced, but I have declined it because the article now has content. It was maybe rather premature to tag it only two minutes after creation - I know newbies ought to know enough to flesh an article out a bit before pressing "Save page", but many of them don't, and some are less persistent than this one and give up if a speedy tag appears almost at once. jamming arabs article, tikirussy

Hello there,

I'm confused as to why my article about the Jamming Arabs is to be deleted. I am no longer a member of this band and therefore I don't quite see why this could be a conflict of interest. In addition, I have quite clearly listed the bands output in terms of singles (one), album (one) and compilation records (two). These albums are still available for purchase however the record label no longer exists hence the lack of references.

I strongly feel that this article is valid and warrents submission. The band, although no longer gigging, had a strong influence on many local bands and there are quite a few favourable reviews of the album out there on the net.

If you could explain to me why the article is being deleted and what I could do to stop this from happening, I would be truly grateful.

Hello, WP:COI is a secondary issue here, the main problem is notability per WP:BAND. I can't find any coverage of them on WP:Reliable sources, but if you can steer me to some I'd be happy to help you rescue the article from deletion. I've been wrong about this before. Criteria for musicians and ensembles Shortcuts: WP:BAND WP:MUSICBIO A musician or ensemble (note that this includes a band, singer, rapper, orchestra, DJ, musical theatre group, etc.) may be notable if it meets at least one of the following criteria:

Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e., an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable). Okay, I admit that Alopecia Records wasn't the biggest record label, but they did produce most of England's surf/garage music during their time. The fact that the Jamming Arabs were on this record label therefore would indicate that they were an important group in this genre.

Has become the most prominent representative of a notable style or of the local scene of a city; note that the subject must still meet all ordinary Wikipedia standards, including verifiability. This is a tricky one. The Jamming Arabs were certainly the most prominent surf group in NE England, but it might also be true to say that they were one of the only surf groups!

Has performed music for a work of media that is notable, e.g. a theme for a network television show, performance in a television show or notable film, inclusion on a notable compilation album, etc. (But if this is the only claim, it is probably more appropriate to have a mention in the main article and redirect to that article.) Again, tricky. One of their songs (unreleased and so not subject to copyright) was used for Hartlepool Tourist Board but it's impossible to reference this as there was no money involved and so no deals exist.

Has been the subject of a half hour or longer broadcast across a national radio or TV network. The Jamming Arabs appeard on Radio Tees for a live session, DJ was Bob Fisher. The band also appeared in the local paper, The Evening Gazette on a two page spread as a local band that actualy had a record deal. Sadly I can find no record of this paper.

I think you've answered the question pretty comprehensively there: we have to be able to prove notability for inclusion.
I've been bitten by this myself: I was once in a band that was hugely popular in the city I'm from, but could find no coverage online, and since I don't live there anymore I couldn't get to the local library to search newspaper archives. So the article got deleted, and my Brush With Greatness remains hidden. Maybe the archives will get digitized and put online one day, and I can have another go. Onto a slightly more selfish topic, does this mean my article will be published? I would so dearly love for it to be there, as I do (and no ego getting involved!) genuinely believe that the band was a significant band in the Middlesbrough area. If you want to make a major change to an actively-maintained article, or nominate it for deletion, then you need to discuss it on the article's talk page first and get consensus for the change. Dear Muffed, Hope you are doing good.. I think i wuould like to make a point here. Koshal as of now doesnt exist.The state of orissa (in eastern India) is as such a single united entity as of now. In every state around the world , u will find some few disgruntled fellows. So, somewhere in my state u will very few people having separatist feelings. Mr.Satyajit is one of them as we all would have guessed by now. I am an old man(52 years) and i have travelled extensively in my state of orissa.I can assure you that, people like him are very few and rare. For some people Koshal doesn't exist as of now, but for the people of this locality Koshal is there from the beginning and it will be there. This is not the vision of any individual but it is the voice of Koshli people. There is nothing like separatist. They are bringing the awareness amongst the people in a peaceful way. But some notorious and colonial mentality people are trying to delete the contents from the Wiki and they should be banned. Satyajit Das has done a good research on the area and whatever he has written are correct.

Hi MuffledThud, I am quite new to Wikipedia so perhaps I've made a mistake. In any case, you have placed my article entitled 'The Tides Of Time' for speedy deletion, despite the fact that this is a totally genuine article, about a genuine classical music album (The Tides Of Time) released by a totally genuine artist (Mr. Polo Piatti) and released by a genuine label (Seafront Records in the UK). I don't know why you have done this but I can assure you that the information published in my article is all justified, true and verifiable. I simply wanted to give this album the relevance it deserves after its release. As mentioned previously (and although I have contributed to Wikipedia before) I am quite new and not entirely "at home" with all of Wikipedia's editing procedures, uploading of files, etc. I just need some help from someone at your end with a bit of time to help me publish this article. It is quite sad that you don't get it MuffledThud! I didn't want to promote anything or impersonate anyone. If I wanted to do that I wold have asked friends of mine (computer experts with Wikipedia knowledge) to do it for me. But I am not that type of person. I simply assumed a PSEUDONYM to protect my privacy and identity as an artist and was just naive in trying to collaborate with Wikipedia under that second, pseudonym account (as I have done before) and just made some mistakes (also in past edits). As I mentioned before, I am not an expert on this. Believe it or not, NONE of my past contributions have EVER been either malicious or out of vanity or out of some sort of promotional thirst. Let's get this straight: MuffledThud didn't delete any of the pages you/Magiko created. He couldn't have, as he isn't an administrator (as far as I know). The reason you are at SPI is because it looks like you, as Magiko, failed to declare your use of a second account. Furthermore, you used the second account to remove a deletion tag from an article created by the first account. This lead MuffledThud to assume that your second account was used for promotional purposes; instead of contesting deletion with a {{hangon}}, you removed the tag entirely, thus abusing your editing privileges. It is very hard to assume that these actions were mistakes, as Magiko has been fairly active, with half a thousand edits. Furthermore, how (in the world) is MuffledThud acting as a dictator? As far as I can see, he's making sure that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia covering notable (and therefore verifiable). I can see that you (Magiko) are working with User:DESiegel to get the article to a point where notability is not in question. Hi. So, I've read through, and I understand what is and isn't allowed, but I'm not sure how to go about fixing them. I'm also not sure what peacock terms are, or how to go about fixing them. I think the main issue is notability, however I'm going to do some looking and see if I can get some outside sources. I believe I've fixed all of the peacock terms, but my view on this is a bit biased so I may need some pointers on that. Also, thanks a bunch for offering to help. I appreciate it. Thank you for the assistance. I noticed that the page was also edited for Wikiproject: Anime & Manga. Did you do that? If so, thank you. Also, while I'm still willing to fix those issues, I think there are some important developments that should help the case for that page, especially the Notability issue that is the only problem that may not be fixable. Firstly, after discussing it with the owner of the site, she has said that she will require all staff at Rising Star Forums to create wikipedia users in order to regularly edit and update the page, as well as to assist in fixing those problems. This does not eliminate the Notability problem directly, but may give cause for the 'Ignore All Rules' rule because it's a site of anime&manga fans who are more than willing to edit the pages for the anime and manga that they're individually familiar with. This would help wikipedia because they specifically know about anime and manga that isn't more popular, and therefore are the pages likely to need help. Does this sound reasonable to you, and if it does qualify, then how does one go about advertising that the page is not to be deleted? According to Indian copyright law, which is supported by [7], the GoI does claim copyright of many of its works, but does not claim copyright over several classes of works, including "any matter which has been published in any Official Gazette except an Act of a Legislature" and "the report of any committee, commission, council, board or other like body appointed by the Government if such report has been laid on the Table of the Legislature" and "any judgement or order of a court, tribunal or other judicial authority".
It is not clear to me that the cited source falls into any of these exceptions. But it is not clear that is does not, either, and there may be further exceptions created by court decision as suggested above. This is clearly not a "blatant" and defiant copyright infringement, but an attempt to use what is legitimately believed (possibly incorrectly, IANAL) to be public domain content Accordingly i think this is best handle not vis speedy deletion but though the slower copyright question processes. How can you write an article about something which doesnt exist as such

Dear Muffed, Hope you are doing good.. I think i wuould like to make a point here. Koshal as of now doesnt exist.The state of orissa (in eastern India) is as such a single united entity as of now. In every state around the world , u will find some few disgruntled fellows. So, somewhere in my state u will very few people having separatist feelings. MT, thanks for tagging this as a copyvio in addition to the G11. Do you have any preference on what I put in the deletion summary when an article is tagged both G11 and G12? Monadnocks and Inselbergs

Hi, my understanding is that Inselbergs include a wide variety of landforms such as monadnocks, bornhardts, buttes and any relatively isolated mountain or peak rising from a relatively flat plain. The appearance of a bornhardt is quite distinct from that of a monadnock or butte, and as such subcategories are justified. well, the only reason dustproof computer doesn't visibly add to rugged compute because rugged computer doesn't go into the details of what qualifies as a rugged computer aside from the military standard. Dust proof, or dust resistance actually, is part of the criteria for a rugged computer. And yes, the 3D-JITT is being reconstructed with my associate. Actually, now that you've mentioned that google returns zero hits, how can i improve that? If you're asking for examples of dust proof computer, there are plenty. You're most welcome for the help. But "revolutionary" is a highly subjective word, and I don't think it's applicable to a rugged computer that claims to have improved upon previous techniques for dust filtration. My opinion that the articles are borderline ads isn't an accusation, just an opinion. You can find the deleting admin for an article by looking at the logs for those articles, which in this case are currently at Dustproof Computer and Procedure Proficiency Software. there is no reason to associate this with a rugged computer. rugged computers aren't dust proof, only dust resistant. and if improved products aren't revolutionary, then you should say the same for the first calculator, to the computer we have now, or propellers to jet engines. it is revolutionary. if i take off the link to DDI, would it stop being an add?

I disagree with that analogy: the difference between a calculator and a modern computer, or the difference between prop technology and jet technology, is nothing like the difference between a highly dust-resistant computer and a (claimed) completely dust-resistant computer. An improvement to a product is neither revolutionary nor necessarily notable enough to warrant its own article. The articles in their present state will get deleted by an admin if they're added to main article space, so if you've got any more information on what distinguishes the dustproof computers described from a rugged computer, please add it to the incubator article, and let's work from there. Hi MuffledThud. I am declining the speedy deletion of Skyscraper Brewing Company, a page that was tagged for deletion by you today 01_25/10. The only thing cited by Wikipedia/MuffledThud was "section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article." This article created by me, user Skootaboy1978, conforms to more standards than other similar pages allowed to be published on Wikipedia. Please do not delete taxonomic treatments that are copied from Plazi servers. Here's why:

The text used in the articles stems from a scientific publications (the references). As a pure description of nature, these pieces of text do not qualify as intellectual property and therefore are not copyrightable. The copyright notice in the referenced pages clearly states this.

The purpose of the texts being replicated in Wikipedia is to

  • make them available to a wider audience
  • have them embedded in Wikipedia's greater network of the knowledge of mankind

Therefore, please allow the article to stay online even though the texts are replicated from another source.

I would like to second that. As far as I can see, part of the text is original, and the description part is description of nature. You can not more claim they are creative and original than you can claim the same for a chemical structure description, describing the relation of atoms in a chemical compound. -- It is as impossible to rewrite a biological description, without creating an original piece of scientific work (which Wikipedia forbids), as it is to rewrite a chemical formula. --G.Hagedorn (talk) 17:54, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Assistance with a deletion please!

Hello, I'm pretty new to wikipedia and I've been contributing here and there, mostly vandalism and spelling/grammar.

I came across this article and noticed it was very unverifiable and that you had deleted this article and this article, both of which were by the same person and with similar names. I can't view an archive of the deletion discussion nor the original article so I don't really know what to argue here. I also looked up deletion policy and verifiability only seems to be urgent with biographies of living people. Your assistance in the matter would be greatly appreciated. (I also don't know how to propose a deletion...)

Hello, and welcome! The right template in this case is Template:db-repost (in my opinion), so I've gone ahead and added {{db-repost|Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Connie Parker Edge}} to the top of Connie Parker-Edge. As you have already spotted (thank you), the version posted by this user on 27 Jan. was indeed identical to the long, lurid unreferenced tale that editor originally posted back in November. This has now been pared right down, but I think db-repost is still appropriate here. If not, then db-bio will work just as well.
Proposing deletions are covered at Wikipedia:Proposed deletion, but creators are allowed to remove prods and the editor concerned dug their heels in every step of the way last time, so a prod would probably have done no good in this case. I use WP:HOTCAT for categorization of new pages, and that often picks up good stub categories. It only shows you their name though, so you then have to manually browse the stub cat to grab its template name, e.g. in this case I could see Category:United States government stubs, but then had to browse that category to find is template "US-gov-stub". I see there are others at WP:Stub sorting#Tools: I've just tried User:Ais523/stubtagtab2.js, but it didn't seem to load stub sub-categories for me. Yeah I know it was in good-faith, but db-g1 is really strict, so even stoned rants or mumbled ads (in any language) that make no sense at all don't qualify: it's meant only for truly indecipherable stuff like "kusdof97 borked doofbong91, ZOMG!!!!!". The problem with revision of CSD criteria is that there's always heated debate between deletionists and inclusionists about making criteria too broad or two narrow: that must have been was why G1 is so limited.
