I noticed that MiszaBot I, archived a bit of the talk page of Transport in India, I want to know how, as I have no recollection of it being added to the archive list. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 14:06, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Edit, I just noticed that the template was added to the top of the page, [which I rarely edit, I only edit sections].. Thanks nyway.. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 14:09, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
MiszaBot in Portuguese Wikipedia
Hello Misza! I'm here to tell you about import your bot to Portuguese Wikipedia. What do you think about it? There, we have a bot that do discussion's archive, but it do not in operation (inative). Vitorbraziledit (talk) 20:58, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but due to lack of free time I cannot maintain another instance of the bot at this point. Sometime in the future I might set up some truly global solution, but not yet. Миша1308:53, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm apparently having trouble with your bot. Most of the information is contained in the {{talkback}} link. I've also put up a message at the bot notice board. I dream of horses (talk) 16:57, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi; I appreciate the good work MiszaBot is doing in archiving discussion pages. However, I have noticed that sometimes sections (threads) that should be archived after a particular period has elapsed are not. At least some of these have a section title that is wikilinked, and I am wondering whether such a section is automatically ignored when archiving takes place. A current example is is the first section (Article alerts) at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Birds. Thanks for any elucidation. Maias (talk) 10:04, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Or, people could use standard timestamps. *eyeroll* Anyway, I'm not investing any more time in archivebot.py - I'm writing an all-new framework instead and the archiver will be migrated to the new platform. Миша1308:56, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If implementation will follow the footsteps of CentralAuth, AbuseFilter or FlaggedRevs then no - we will need archiver bots for at least another year or so. Regardless, I'd love to see a sane and consistent robot framework at work. I do, however, fully support changing this retarded way of discussing using talkpages. Миша1305:15, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
MiszaBot III , why hath you fosaken me??? (cron died?)
I think the cron tab must have died or something; it didn't run yesterday and doesn't appear to have started running today either. –xenotalk14:23, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not really away as much as not editing. I never normally disable the bot. If it has downtimes it's due to the Toolserver being down (and it had a downtime scheduled recently). However, this time it seems like the template transclusion enumerator in pywikipedia finally broke beyond repair (the bot enters an infinite loop of some sort). Миша1320:16, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My best guess (without looking into logs) would be a spam link somewhere, which prevents the bot from adding that threads to an archive page (can't find it though). Incidentally, it's been discussed on that very page. Миша1309:38, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, good idea. I can save the whole pump to a sandbox, with a non-admin account, though; wouldn't that trigger the blacklist in the same way? Happy‑melon10:10, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, is-it possible for to create the same bot on French Wikipedia ? I want the news from Wikinews for my portal and I think that many portal will be interested by your "Updating from Wikinews". If you search a French name for your bot, Importateur Wikinews Bot is good, in my humble opinion. Thank you, --Sniff (talk) 17:02, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I could set this up, but I'd prefer to use the global account, i.e. fr:User:Wikinews Importer Bot on frwiki. My French sucks, so I would need someone to translate the English userpage (just put it on the bot's French userpage).
Also, does anyone think it would be a good idea to have the archive bot remove archive templates (such as {{archivetop}} and {{archivebottom}}, as I did here) while archiving? Is there a reason to keep them on conversations that are clearly already in an archive? ▫ JohnnyMrNinja08:14, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Probably because it doesn't have the __NOEDITLINKS__ (or something similar) magic word on it - in your example, I think it is trancluded through {{atnhead}}.
It is stranger than I thought: Sections are being added to the archive but not being removed from the forum. And as a result sections are added to the archive multiple times. —teb728tc08:09, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In this case all those where you added the template. It's related to the bug NE2 mentions - due to the nature of the configuration parser each line must start with a pipe character ("|") - you added an extra leading space on each line. Миша1309:41, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever the bot is intending to do, it isn't doing it correctly. Long-dead entries are being preserved on the Talk page while more recent, extensive, and relevant discussions are being archived without a link to them. In cases of controversial topics like Custer, the same issues tend to crop up over and over again, and a selective archiving of irrelevant or inactive threads is preferable to the wholesale archiving of every discussion - in addition to which, as noted, the bot is malfunctioning. Please remove this bot and its protected status from this page and allow editors to archive it selectively. Sensei48 (talk) 05:03, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The extremely ancient threads are not archived because they are using an old (and therefore not recognized) timestamp format. You'll have to archive it manually.
Now to your second point. I didn't set up archiving on that page. My bot is a self-service - you add the template, it starts archiving - you remove it, it stops. Suit yourself. The service comes with a disclaimer that people should establish consensus before archiving public forums. Regards, Миша1310:51, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I made a little pub for your bot here. Please don't forget update news on French Wikipedia, in few weeks, many portals will have News from Wikinews. For this moment, ~4 portals wait for updates. Thank you very much, --Sniff (talk) 19:56, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I had some bumps adjusting to the specifics of the French language, but it should be going automatically now. Миша1321:47, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ho! Ok, sorry But, can you add the year, like " 27 juin2009 : Entrée gratuite aux sites de Parcs Canada" ? And if possible, with the wiki-syntax {{date|27|juin|2009}} ? Thanks, --Sniff (talk) 21:56, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You might be interested in this diff from MiszaBotIII, where it grabbed a level-2 header encased in nowiki tags rather than the actual level-2 header from the convo. Since it left the beginning nowiki, it kinda messed up formatting on the page following it. Yeah, poor formatting choice on the part of the guy who posted it, but just thought I'd let you know about this case on the possibility that it mattered. —/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 22:12, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
