Well it's 2 AM on West Coast USA. California, homies. We all surf (even the 8 billion illegal immigrants). Los Angeles is just like they show it in GTA: San Andreas (but with more hookers). Oh yeah, and we only have one season. We call it "perfect".

Anyway, it is RETF Christmas Secular Celebration Day, and I'm not failing to deliver. I'm saying good bye to converting that whole list over. It's full of misspellings that aren't misspellings and words that aren't ever misspelled. From now on this is my method for finding new words:

1. Spellcheck a random word from the existing list
2. Open any article where it corrects more than 1 word
3. Load it into Microsoft Word and spellcheck
4. See how many times it shows up in Wikipedia using AWB
5. If it shows up more than 6 times I'll put it into dictionary.com to make sure it's not a real word
6. Integrate all versions of a word into regular expressions using dictionary.com as a reference
7. <datagridFAR find="\b(E|e)nvrionmen(t|ts|tal|tally|talist|talists)\b" replacewith="$1nvironmen$2" />

You can do this too and get thanked in the section below! It really works well!

RegExTypoFix is now completely built into AutoWikiBrowser

Yes, that's right. My little project has now been integrated into Wikipedia's most famous utility. This expands my reach to around ~250 active users!

• But mboverload, what does this mean? - It means that Wikipedia is going to suck less! Yay!
• What do I do? - Download the latest version of AWB and go to More Options > Enable RegExTypoFix. Then go to then in the Start tab > Summary dropdown box select RegExTypoFix
• What happened to including your name in it? How am I going to praise you with every edit? You mean "mboverload's RegExTypoFix"? Oh, just stick it in there, and complain on the AWB talkpage if you want my name in there standard =P.
• How did this come about? Why wasn't I told? - Because it was secret. I have known about this for about a week I think. Putting my typofixing into AWB was suggested in the talk page, however people talking about including spellchecking in AWB has gone back awhile. Martin, the creator and only developer of AWB, informed me and I was absolutely flattered. I now have developer access to AWB so I can update AWB with the latest RETF without having to bother him.
• What about updates and the newsletter?
  • All updates are just going to be small files with the latest new words and fixes. When AWB updates just throw out the file until I release the next supplemental update.
  • I will be releasing the full RegExTypoFix, however it's going to be in the format that AWB uses it and not in its settings xml format. It's way easier to read, though.
  • You'll still be getting the newsletter, full of keen insights into the wiki hivemind and commentary on mind-body meta relationships.
• mboverload, how long HAVE you worked on RETF anyway? I estimate 50 hours. Using my most accurate method of finding and verifying typos nets me 20 new lines an hour. This does NOT include the hours I've spent testing it.
• Where can I find a list of typos to fix? User:Mboverload/RegExTypoFix/full

No need to apologize to me! I was just pointing it out (and it also looks like you just now got another barnstar below!). Writing the captions is a good way. You have a substantial amount of support, why I dont know, but it is clear your RFA will pass. This, admittedly, dissapoints me, as I strongly believe you are unfit for administative powers and responsibilities. However, I respectfully ask you to restore my oppose vote. Well, as you can see on the RfA, the recent activity has attracted some attention, garnering you some fresh Support votes. In fact, Freesyle/Ki's oppose reason was so silly that I really wonder if he didn't actually want to persuade people to vote support, by presenting a really poor "Straw Man" argument. Hey guys. Before I do anything, I have to thank all these people who have helped me make RETF more bug-free via my challenge to them on the Language noticeboard. Some were redundant lines, and some were words that probably never appear in Wikipedia, but as I said, I don't want any false positives in RETF.

RETF development

I don't know what to say really. Something has come up and I might not be able to continue to update RETF after the next week or so.......I have put in countless sleepless nights of just me, my computer, and a case of Rockstar energy drink working on this. It has made me feel that I really am a devoted Wikipedian.

I have developed RegExTypoFix from a little hobby of mine into a full SourceForge project. I told a friend that I’ve worked 50 development hours in all. I have a really bad sense of time, but I’m sure it was more. I won’t lie, I am very proud of my work. Hopefully this will be used long after I leave.

To ensure that, I need a person/people to become admins on the RETF project. I don’t ask that you do anything but fix any errors that people report. There is a bit of a process to doing this, but I can teach you. Please send me a message on my talk page. Please my close friends only please, I hope you understand that I want to 100% trust this person. However, I might just hand it off to User:Bluemoose, as if he didn’t have enough on his plate =D.

User:Mboverload/RegExTypoFix/updateboxTo keep an eye on RETF, you can use {{User:Mboverload/RegExTypoFix/updatebox}} and it will produce the box you see here =D. When AWB updates, I can turn it green on command =P

Extract Typos.xml from the zip file either using the zip extraction tool provided with XP or use 7zip.

Under the new system that Martin (User:Bluemoose) developed Typos.xml is separate from the settings file. This way it can be easily swapped out and doesn't interfere with your own personal find and replace settings. Put it in the AWB directory. It is loaded automatically when you start AWB.

In addition, each Typos.xml file comes coded with a version number. Perhaps in some future release AWB will be able to check to see if there's an update for you!

Hi Mets. I took a look at the situation. Although Tchadienne has been very uncivil about it, and I shall say so to him, I don't think he (she?) has done anything actually wrong in voting against your RfA. I suggest you let the vote stand; removing it might make you look bad. I will make a note to the closing bureaucrat against Tchad's vote, but, having been unblocked now, there is no reason that the vote will be invalid. Whether the vote was cast in good faith is another matter, and one I am sure the closing bureaucrat will take into account. Don't worry about it; I think you're cruising the RfA anyway, nicht wahr? Peekyou.com

Not really sure where I should put this response, but you asked for it to be on this page so I will. Peekyou.com is a social search engine, so it was appropriate to add it to a page that has a list of social search engines. I don't really see the problem here. I understand that you are doing your best to keep spam off of Wikipedia, and that is entirely commendable, but isn't it also supposed to be a place to find relevant information?

If I had changed the text of some definition page to include PeekYou.com that would be one thing, and I could see the argument that it might be considered spam. But to add it to a list whose sole purpose is to catalog sites like it? I won't revert, as you're probably an admin and would just ban me, but please, think this over a bit more, both for this instance and for the future.

Flight Simulator X

In response to your question, no, I didn't use sockpuppet on the demo bit. I was under the impression that the fileplanet beta is the same thing as the public demo, hence I removed the paragraph and created a separate Demo section, until 82.252.213.230 clarified the difference. I assume 84.51.152.199 made the same mistake when editing and he obviously didn't see the previous edit log, but I had nothing to do with this edit. - Canwolf 21:35, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Majora's Mask edit

Recently I made an edit to the Majora's Mask page, and added "Strangely, inside the moon is a beautiful, pristine plain broken by a single tree." at the end of the plot section. Mike Barson AfD

I'm a little confused by the process you followed. If you disagreed with the PROD, all you had to do was delete it (preferably with a comment on the talk page). Normally, when you list an article for AfD it means you want it deleted - but in this case your entry says "weak keep". I guess we'll get a community consensus out of this ... but I would hav e just started with deleting the PROD. I personally don't know enough to be able to determine if Mike Barson is notable or not - just that the article as written doesn't support verifiable notability... ok, cool, I understand. I actualy do think Mike Barson is notable - but the article doesn't support it. Based on your AfD, I did some more research and now agree that an article about Mike Barson is appropriate - but not this one as currently written. I tagged the article in a few places asking for sources - with appropriate sources to support his verifiable notability, this could be a fine article. It's getting a little late for me here (UTC +1) as I'm travelling tomorrow morning early and still need to pack, or I might just go fix it all myself. I think a great outcome would be for someone (or a few people) to fix the article and then we could close the AfD as a speedy keep (based on an improved article). Yes, I did read the talkpage. Freestylefrappe was an excellent editor before he was desysopped and his vote should have stood. Removing oppose votes from your own RfA is not your job in any case. I appreciate your attempt to restore Ceiling Cat. Looks like it's not widespread enough to get past the stigma it has here yet. I originally came to Wikipedia to find out more information about the image, I was surprised when there was no article about it. It was only after I started creating the article I found out about the source of the image being Wikipedia itself. Well maybe someday Ceiling Cat will merit an article. Hey. Updates are every 6 hours and, while you can just change one or two if you want, usually the entire template is changed. The instructions at WP:DYK are a little sparse and I made many errors when I first started updating, but everyone helps out to fix them. -- Samir धर्म 00:20, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Apparent Vandalism

the incident was a planned test of vandalism response times. A page was vandalized lightly, changing only one word. The time until a revert was then counted. It was a very, very good result. --84.64.42.43 12:57, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Program Feature: To-Do List The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential! What's New? In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Venus

Hi - I see you have removed the article on Venus from the front page for not being exactly like Earth. The bit states that Venus is the most Earthlike atmosphere in the Solar System, not that Venus has an Earthlike atmosphere. The temperature numbers based on the number of kilometres would give around 40 degrees at 52-3 kilometres anyway, but rounding off to 50 is better because the numbers are not quite exact in the first place. I would have preferred that you took a look at the sources in the article - this one clearly states that "Although the surface of Venus is an extremely hostile environment, at about 50 kilometers above thesurface the atmosphere of Venus is the most earthlike environment (other than Earth itself) in the solar system" in the first sentence of the first paragraph. Please check sources before making an abrupt change like that (and please restore the Venus article on the front page as it only had three hours there). Mithridates 18:12, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Rainbow Gathering - Review Request

Greetings,

I see that you placed a protection of the Rainbow Gathering article and in some sense I do appreciate that however, the user who asked you to protect the page did so after he made changes to the text thereby shutting out valid listings of annual Rainbow Gatherings here in the United States. This is a heated topic not only on Wikipedia but also nationally for the Rainbow Family at large. This is a dynamic freeform movement that has been active since at least 1972. As the gatherings have grown so have the number of gatherings world wide. Within the United States there are now two notable gatherings that are hosted annually. Myself and others would like these gatherings listed as they are of historical interest. Please review comments on the talk page, request for semi-protection of the article and reprieve from the vandalism that has ensued over the course of several months. If at all possible, please invest a little research on the topic of Rainbow Gatherings and their unorganized nature. Rainbow Gathering information can be found at http://rainbowguide.info and other places throughout the internet. Thanks for your time and consideration. P.S.
