On cleanup using AWB

Thank you for doing that work, but to be honest, I don't know if it is really necessary to use AWB to just replace HTML to unicode. As far as I can tell it does not make much of a difference, and all I see is my watchlist (on which I have more than 900 articles) gets filled, and it takes more time to check it as well as make sure there is no vandalism/other edits on the same day for those articles. I was doing it because it is much easier to edit a page when the characters are displayed in unicode, slightly easier for regular Wikipedians, and tons easier for new Wikipedians not used to HTML entities, because frankly, if you'd never seen HTML entities before, you may wonder why you're seeing   in a page's source code. You are right, though that it makes it harder to check the watchlist to check for vandalism. I'll stop now, though. (You might also want to see User:Curpsbot-unicodify). Heh, if Wikipedians get intimidated by HTML code then we are in big trouble. :) User:Curpsbot-unicodify has not been around for a while, not in math articles at least. Actually a bot is better for such a job as you can schedule the bot to do a thorough job, but very rarely, say once a year, rather than whenever users feel like adding to their edit count (just kidding :) I think eventually some discussion needs to take place on when/what kind of edits are appropriate with AWB, for example, I won't mind a user doing spell-checking/disambiguation and along the way cleaning up more superficial things. IFF substitutions

Hi. I reverted your IFF change in Aegis combat system, since in that article IFF means Identification Friend or Foe. Perhaps AWB is not case sensitive. (?) Iff

Hi. It is me again. It appears you are replacing all iffs with "if and only if". May I ask why? Is there an agreement on that? I suggest you raise the issue at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mathematics. And a piece of advice, which I also learned the hard way, big changes need to always be discussed in advance. They can save effort and sometimes avoids the need to do reverts. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 20:17, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Wikipedia:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Blocked anon

Hi Mets501. Sorry it took so long for someone to block that user. I'm trying to be really conservative with my new admin tools until I'm a little more confident with them. I was trying to figure out if it was some sort of a content dispute (was there some question regarding the NJ vacancy) since it wasn't simple vandalism. Do you have any idea what his motivation was? I appreciate your revision of the vandalism anonymous user207.138.40.15 committed on my talkpage. I am really uncertain as to what I did or may have done to offend this person, but obviously I did. Doing some research, I found that he added a request for a composer named Justin Bean, a name which sounds familiar to me. I believe, if memory serves, that he was a member of a band an article about whom I tagged for speedy deletion. Apparently, that pissed him off. Thanks, also, for putting the warning on his talkpage. Xdeadclancyx

The user referred to above just vandalized and then reverted his vandalism of my user page. As you may recall, you reverted vandalism to my talk page some time back, and I expressed the opinion that the anonymous user who committed said vandalism was actually Xdeadclancyx. The current vandalism only reinforces that view. If you would not mind, can you give him a stern warning about such nonsense? I would appreciate it. ---Charles 17:50, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

After I left the message above, I saw that you were on wikibreak, so I took the matter to another administrator, and he left Xdeadclancyx a warning. The reason I feel strongly on this issue is that a month has passed since the article he wrote was deleted---the only reason he has for being unhappy with me---and yet he continues to target my page for vandalism. And, frankly, I believe the only reason he reverted the edit is because the tag was invalid and did not work. At any rate, I am not going to pursue the matter further unless there is further vandalism. But, trust me when I say I am keeping my eye on him. I noticed your comments on this RfA. Normally I would agree with you and certainly oppose. However, on looking more closely at the candidate and the quality of his knowledge and performance, I find factors that more than compensate for any quantitative reservation.
