Hi, This picture is my own work with Melina Mores from a Canon EOS 30D, and the lack of exif is because the png transformation and resize using Gimp. Should I Really re-upload the file ? G8 summit

A week ago, some question arose in Wikicommons about the copyright status of a number of G8 summit photos which had been uploaded from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). The following images had been tagged for deletion:

• Fukuda arriving at New Chitose Airport, July 6th - [1]
• G8+8 Outreach Working Session, July 7th - [2]
• G8+8 Outreach Working Lunch, July 7th - [3]
• Tanabata, G8 leaders in a group, July 7th - [4]
• G8 Working Lunch, July 8th - [5]
• G8 Afternoon Working Session, July 8th - [6]

I responded to this perceived problem with alacrity, but I did so in a somewhat confused manner. Despite the awkward qualities of the e-letter I sent to MOFA, that attempt did engender a relatively prompt response. I hope it is not premature for me to believe that the necessary permission or release of whatever-it-is has now been satisfactorily documented?

As construed from the perspective of the Japanese government, a MOFA secretariat official has now confirmed that there was nothing improper in what I have already done. Is something else still needed? My limited experience at Wikicommons causes me to wonder if the imprecise words might not be inadequate? If the proffered paragraph is deemed sufficient, what next? I'm not sure what to do about removing those warning notices on the description page which accompanied each image? Perhaps that's for someone else to decide?

I have already posted an update at Commons:Deletion requests/G8 images; but there may be something else I should have done? I will continue to try to figure this out by myself, and I do want to avoid any additional mis-steps at this point.

Thank you very much for your e-mail. There is no problem you use summit photos in Wikipedia as you do now, which "author" and "permission" are put down on each photo. We do not set an online set of statements concerning the prospective use of summit photos.

I don't know how the lack of knowledge about the photographer is going to help us to make a free picture of a vehicle that doesn't exist anymore. I also don't understand why that picture can't be considered a historical image. BTW I don't know why you think that using text only is going to be better than using an actual picture. Pictures and illustrations always help the reader to better understand the subject of the article or a part of it. Regards. - SuperTank17 (talk) 22:52, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

"Ultimately the article will still make sense without the picture". Come to think of it you can use this logic to any article on Wikipedia. The only question is would it make the article better? Fair use?

Regarding the HS.30 article, I've revised the text so that it is not a direct quote of Haworth. I think, though, your comment about fair use is off the mark. Try googling the text I quoted -- it is already available on the internet and has been made so by a commercial organization. Thus, I hardly feel badly about having quoted it on Wikipedia with its original source indicated. --W. B. Wilson (talk) 05:47, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

The link you quoted is interesting but I have to say at the least it is somewhat vague. For example, one could contend that since people use Wikipedia as a reference work, that "Nonprofit educational uses" might cover the quote in question, but as the article notes, nothing is written in stone. --W. Removed PRODs

I notice you've removed the prod notices, suggesting a merge as an alternative. Do you have somewhere in mind? I looked for suitable merge candidates before prodding them, but couldn't really see anything - perhaps you can come up with something... It might be a topic around Armoured warfare - but merging into the main article wouldn't work. Mobility Kill certainly gets reasonable traffic, perhaps merge all the other terms onto there ? Megapixie (talk) 14:10, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

It's a possibility, but still leaves the problem that the terms are US Army jargon (at least, I don't recall hearing them anywhere else!). Maybe a transwiki to Wiktionary would be better? EyeSerene^talk 14:50, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Seriously, didin't think so... 'Cause he is a Paparazzi and take a lot of pictures. The only one that he have in this license is from britney spears, really, look the other one have a lot of copyright license, again, the only who don¿t have is the britney pic. Notability of Kaj Birksted

Hi Mega

I'm doing something wrong with photoediting in low light, and I was wondering if you could educate me? I did a series of photographs of the Israeli DJ Offer Nissim in conditions I have never photographed in before: a dance club. I think the pictures came out nicely, although my trying to Photoshop them has given them a lot of static and noise. What am I doing wrong? When the photos are viewed small, you can't notice. But when they are blown up, it is quite noticeable. Could you give me some advice? Here's one example. Thank you for any help. --David Shankbone 14:02, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
