Disculpe, buenas tardes...
— Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.151.77.218 (talk) 19:25, 18 January 2015 (UTC)
Name dispute
Erik,
Hey, so I am trying to clean up an article and I am confused about whether using the artist's stage name or real name. The singer's stage name is "Ana Bárbara" and her birth name is "Altagracia Ugalde Motta". At first, the article was listing her as "Ana Bárbara" throughout the whole article so I removed the first name and left the last name. Now I have an editor who changed the name back to "Ana Bárbara". I'm not sure if I should leave it with the whole name (stage name) or just place the last name through out the article.
Here is what the editor left in the edit summary:[1]. Thanks! --Fundude99 00:32, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
@Fundude99:MOS:FULLNAME covers this. You only use her birth name at the very beginning of the article then you say her stage name. MOS:SURNAME says to just the surname afterwards even if it's a pseudonym. If the editor is causing problems, let me know and I will help out. Erick (talk) 00:40, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
@Magiciandude: Sorry to bother you again, but since reading over if the manual of style, I did change everything back to the surname of the stage name. Now I have another editor contradicting that, they have placed the whole stage name through out the article. Here is what the editor's edit summary stated [2] I am trying to avoid engaging in an edit war, which is why I am asking what I should do in this particular situation.
@Fundude99: I have reverted the user's edits and left a message on the user's talk page. Manual of Styles should not be challenged without a good reason and the user had none. Erick (talk) 05:34, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
Hi @Magiciandude I downloaded your image of Marc Anthony Cambio de piel and I was trying to create a shirt. I was asked for a copyright permission from you. Not sure if this is where I should have contacted you... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Diamond Damaris (talk • contribs) 18:29, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
Re
Hey Erick, how has everything been going? Thanks for that article on Vendetta. I was looking for one with all the information that one had. But about the project's scope. I think it pretty much sums everything up. If something is left out, I can't think of it. — DivaKnockouts21:25, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
@AJona1992: The translation on the article is correct as it is. And I think the reason the Google translation came out wrong is because you might've typed "d" instead of "t" on the word "Verde". ;) BTW, I didn't know you like Jon Secada. I really like "Otro Dia Mas Sin Verte" (the song), it's one of my favorite Latin songs of the 90's. Erick (talk) 19:47, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
Well I was researching the album and found its literal translation, idk if you prefer I use it or use the title it previously had? Yea, I decided to work on one of his articles so I won't get bored working on Selena's over and over again (one of the reasons why I took so many wikibreaks) so I want something different. I like his music so I figured I'll work on his album and try to get it to FA status. If you wanna work with me on the article I don't mind :) Best, .jonatalk19:51, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
@AJona1992: Well I could look up some thing that might be hard to access otherwise. I went HighBeam but didn't find any reviews. I do know that it was nominated a Lo Nuestro Award for Pop Album in 1994. If you are unable to find any reviews other than Allmusic's rating, I will go through Newsbank and request for articles at the Resource center. I do believe I have the year-end charts for 1993 e-mailed to me. Erick (talk) 20:02, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
Alright, I'll let you know if anything. Oh and before I forget, because I didn't:
@AJona1992: I just make sure, is your e-mail functioning? I'm asking because I have the '93 year-end charts on my saved mail and would like to e-mail it to you. Erick (talk) 20:22, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
I get e-mails from Wikipedia (regarding my talk page) but nothing from you. I checked my spam mail and nothing. I'll start a discussion at WP:EMAIL. Best, .jonatalk20:24, 7 February 2015 (UTC)
A summary of a Featured Article you nominated at WP:FAC will appear on the Main Page soon. I had to squeeze the text down to a little over 1200 characters; was there anything I left out you'd like to see put back in? - Dank (push to talk) 20:25, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
@Dank: Nope, I think the blurb sums the article nicely! I only just wish to include a image of the artist, but Crisco1492 told me he wasn't sure that any of the images on Commons were actually okay to use. Erick (talk) 20:29, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
Erick, can you please request full protection on Jenni Rivera, there is a lot of vandalism going on. Users think it is an account using sock puppets but it has not been confirmed. The vandalism is from user accounts and IP addresses. ThanksFundude99talk to me23:29, 1 March 2015 (UTC)
@Magiciandude: Question: On Jenni Rivera's article, it stated she was a Mexican-American singer, another user changed it to American singer. Now on every major news network that covered her death such as CNN, BBC News, and the Huntington Post, they labeled her as Mexican-American, can I changed it back? She was born here in America, but I think she held dual-citizenship with the US and Mexico, which is why they labeled her as Mexican-American. I don't think it has to do with ethnicity, It supposed to matter of what country your a citizen of right? Here are the news article links: [6][7][8] Thanks.—Fundude99talk to me04:40, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
@Fundude99: Well according to MOS:BLPLEAD, it says : "Ethnicity or sexuality should not generally be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. Similarly, previous nationalities or the country of birth should not be mentioned in the opening sentence unless they are relevant to the subject's notability." I think those sources do make Rivera's ethnicity notable to put on the lead, but I'm not entirely certain. Also, it is not necessary to use the ping template on my talk page as the notifications lets you know when someone has posted on your talk page. If anything else comes up, let me know and I'll see what I can do. Erick (talk) 07:19, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Rivera was born in the US and therefore according to guidelines that Erick pointed out, her article and her works should label her an American because she was an American citizen. It's like, for instance, if Snooki's article said she is an American Jersyan (for being born in NJ), it's not encouraged to put a "dual citizenship" as it may confuse readers who are not familiar with her or her works. Best, jona(talk)15:49, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
No worries, although a second set of eyes might have been better. Think I've done a few Miguel articles, but the music video in front of the building in this one definitely rang a bell :-). All the best, Miniapolis23:14, 17 March 2015 (UTC)
EP or compilation
Hello Magiciandude. I want to know if these Jesse & Joy albums: Super 6 and Six Pack are catalogued as EPs or compilation albums.
Both were released the same day, and they already have realeased two studio albums: Esta Es Mi Vida and Electricidad, and one EP: Esto Es Lo que Soy.
Super 6 contains one single from their fist album: "Espacio Sideral" and a remix of it, and the other songs are from their second album. Meanwhile, Six Pack contains two songs from Electricidad (their 2nd album), three from Esta Es Mi Vida and one from the EP Esto Es Lo que Soy.
I think if that includes songs already released could be catalogued as an compilation, and if it's new material as an EP (for just have six songs). But in iTunes are catalogued as EP. I want to know your opinion. Thanks--Alberto Uecke (talk) 23:45, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
@Alberto Uecke: I would check to see what other reliable sources say about those releases. iTunes isn't the source you have to use to determine if it is a EP or not. I agree that the one with new songs should be categorized as an EP, but it's better to see what the sources say just in case. Hope that helps. Erick (talk) 23:50, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

Question on tracking sales
Does Billboard track sales from iTunes and Amazon? I know they track Google Play..the reason why I ask is because Ones was selling way more (according to iTunes ranking) than the Lo Mejor de CD and made it to the top 30 of their overall chart for 2-3 days. I checked Billboard.biz and the album didn't even make it on the Latin Digital or Latin Catalog Albums chart, which boggles the mind because Ones and Dreaming of You were the top selling Latin albums for 3 days, while Lo Mejor de was the 4th or 5th, on top of this Ones have been in the top 10 for over a year. If they don't I think its stupid, iTunes is (one of) the biggest digital markets out there. Best, jona(talk)17:26, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
@AJona1992: As fas as I know, yes. Thing is, iTunes rankings aren't always indicative of how much an album has actually sold. Remember that retail stores are still counted even in this digital age. Erick (talk) 17:42, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
Well I know iTunes is not reliable on that but I assume they use the same technique that Amazon uses to track when a song/album has been sold and tallies it against other titles to determine its position on their best sellers category. Did Billboard remove the eligibility of catalog albums on their charts or do they not track digital sales for older albums since Ones is not sold in stores anymore? I didn't even think the new compilation album was even going to make its mark on the charts until the hashtag Selena was blowing up on social media, but my predictions was that it would debut at numbers 150-200 and Walmart wasn't selling the album until two days ago so that's why I am wondering about Ones since it remains the best selling digital album of hers for the past couple of years. I am probably just being a fan upset that this was the only album to make it on the charts lolz. jona(talk)17:51, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
@AJona1992: In somewhat related news, I'd like to get the Latin music portal become featured after the Romance becomes FA. I'm probably going to take a a week break after it closes though. 18:10, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
I can see it become a featured portal, especially with the number of articles that the project has worked on. Feeling tired of Wikipedia? jona(talk)18:20, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
@AJona1992: Burned out? Yeah, I tried to take a break earlier (I keep forgetting to remove that notice), but I just couldn't steer away. When the FAC closes, I'm taking my week break regardless of the outcome. Erick (talk) 18:23, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
Quick question, this source says "Dreaming of You" streamed 788,000 times and this source gives me the total digital sales the song had sold by 2010. Does the certification template supports streaming or should I just use the digital sales figure for the template or both? Thanks, jona(talk)20:27, 11 April 2015 (UTC)

Hey Erik, I am working on one of Jenni Rivera's album which can be found here. I am having trouble finding out the original artrist that performed these songs: "Amaneciste Conmigo" and "La Escalera". Could you help me find out who originally performed those songs? It would be a big help. Thanks!—Fundude99talk to me19:05, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
@Fundude99: Sure thing. While I'm searching for who the original artists, I came across these articles that I think might help a lot ([9], [10], [11], [12]. I can also show you how to upload a music sample later on if you're interested. I'm assuming this is being done for GA, so you already got Joyas Prestadas to look as an example but I also think Viva el Príncipe is another article you should look as an example since that one is also a collection of covers as well as any of the first-three Romance albums by Luis Miguel that I contributed to. EDIT: Also found this press release from Universal Musica. Erick (talk) 20:11, 10 April 2015 (UTC)
@Fundude99: Okay so after a bit of searching, "La Escalera" was originally by Amanda Miguel in 1992. I still cannot find the original artist for "Amaneciste Conmigo". Do you own the physical copy of the album? If you do, you're allowed to source any information that's from the album booklet (Wikipedia accepts offline sources). Erick (talk) 19:17, 13 April 2015 (UTC)
@Fundude99: I'm more inclined to believe that "Amaneciste Conmigo" is an original song for La Gran Señora. I looked up the composer of the song on Google and it seems that he was a former member of Banda el Recodo who went by the moniker "El Mimoso". Here's an article I found by Univision. Most important Latin American music articles
Hey Erick, hope you're doing well! I was wondering if you would be interested in organizing a group effort to improve our most commonly read Latin American music articles (the most glaring example in my opinion is Enrique Iglesias's page, which desperately needs more citations). It would be awesome if we could get some of our big articles to GA status. Thanks! Basilisk4u (talk) 22:16, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

Hey Erick, how are you doing? It's great to be back. Hmm, I've seen the assessment page, but I haven't seen the to-do list. — DivaKnockouts16:35, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
I like Luis Miguel, but overall the music. Not many GA or FA in spanish wikipedia about latin music so I decided to edit articles of music.
I delighted to continue translating its work and have updates for e-mail will be an honor for me. Te felicito Erick por el gran trabajo que vienes realizando. ¡Muchas gracias por las palabras! IrwinDime20:55, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

On 14 July 2015, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Joan Sebastian, which you recently nominated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page.
Erick,
Can you request Joan Sebastian's death be put on the front page of Wikipedia under recent deaths. I'm sure you've heard a little about him, as he was a popular multi Grammy Award winning singer. Thanks! —Fundude99talk to me02:21, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
@Fundude99: Actually I do know about him. Even though my taste for Regional Mexican is limited to rancheras and some norteño. I'm quite saddened by the news and I loved his song "Secreto de Amor" and some of his songs were covered by salsa singers like "Lobo Domesticado" by Tommy Olivencia y su Orquesta. I'll nominate for Recent Deaths and if no one has already. Thanks for letting me and my condolences go out for his family and friends. Thanks for letting me know! Erick (talk) 02:31, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
I am going to give support on it, I just saw another user support and comment "as soon as the article is properly updated and otherwise made ready.", what exactly needs to be done so that the article is properly updated so I can go ahead and start updating it.—Fundude99talk to me02:59, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
@Fundude99: I think the user means that his death needs to be expanded some more. I suggest renaming the "Death" section to "Illness and death" and talk about how he has been battling for cancer for years. Since you'll be updating it, I'll be mentioning that you did that. Erick (talk) 03:02, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
@Fundude99: A good portion of the article is unsourced such as his early life section so it could use some more sources. I will add the special awards he received in his life. I'll ask if anything needs to be done on the nomination page. Erick (talk) 03:56, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
(edit conflict) @Fundude99: Yep, a user commented on the lack of sources. Let's go ahead and add them so that we can get the article listed on RD! I've tagged the {{in use}} template so that you don't have to deal with edit conflicts a lot. Sites like Allmusic has biography pages for artists. You can use sources from Google Books too (use {{cite book}} if you do. Erick (talk) 04:26, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
Alright, I wish you the best on your search. I've added the 2001 LN awards he got including the Excellence and will add the Hall of Fame award from Billboard next. Erick (talk) 04:32, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
That's okay. The article is in a better shape now so I'll ask the users on the nominations to have another look. Erick (talk) 05:32, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
Erick, I've kind of put on hold La Gran Señora for a while, I've been meaning to get back on it, and I think it's almost ready for a GA nomination. But could you look over it and tell me on some things in which I could improve on. Thanks.—Fundude99talk to me00:52, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

A Grammy winning artist is one where the artist won the award, not a work. For instance, Lecrae is not a Grammy-winning artist, but two of his works are Grammy winners. Lecrae is high importance, though, as he is one of the most important artists in Christian music right now and one of the most known.--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 21:10, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Hey, I just saw the Latin Grammy nominations for this year, I see that Julión Álvarez' work was nominated, I was wondering if that establishes enough notability to have his own article. I know that some of his albums & songs have charted here in this U.S. But I wasn't sure if that established enough notability to have an English-language Wikipedia article. @Dank: Hi there! Last time, we are unable to use an image of the singer because of potential copyright problems. So this time, I looked through Flickr and uploaded this picture. Would this do? Erick (talk) 21:13, 2 November 2015 (UTC)
Last time the issue was that I wasn't too comfortable with the copyright status on the image. My gut said that they were likely copyvios (web resolution, etc.) Now we have File:Luis miguel 328.jpg, which I'm much more comfortable with. Just a matter of cropping the image. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 23:11, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

Hey! I've been great. My country is getting worse everyday but I'm doing fine, trying to see if I can come back and do some editing after a long year out. I'm happy to see you and some other good friends are still around. → Call meHahc2119:46, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
@Hahc21: I'm happy to hear you're well in spite of what's going on over there. A few things have happened since you took break. I got the Latin music project to do a WikiProject Interview with the signpost. I finally got the Latin music portal to be featured, and I'm planning to do a Latin music edit-a-thon sometime next year in Miami. I've been categorizing Latin albums in the past few days to include underrepresented genres and other release types (for example, I create the categories for Ricardo Arjona compilation albums and Ricardo Arjona live albums a few days). I also obtained a full list of Lo Nuestro nominations for every year to help Javier. It's a lot of work, but I'm always happy to get Latin music into the spotlight. :) Erick (talk) 19:52, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
Now that you mention Arjona... I still have to bring his latest album to GA. I just checked it and it's a mess. And wow you have quite the schedule! Count me in for anything you might need. I will be around :) → Call meHahc2119:57, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
Yep, and I didn't even mention the revamped Latin music project scope and tabs (credit goes to AJona1992 for that). We didn't have our own assessment page with our own importance scale until a few months when I created, which you can see on the assessment tab. And on top of that, I created a separate article for Latin music as a genre. It'd be great to have you on board again if you plan to work on Arjona's albums. Tonight's the Latin Grammy Awards so it's been an interesting day to say the least. Erick (talk) 20:02, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
DYK for Aries (album)
On 24 November 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Aries (album), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that WEA Latin had a Mexican radio station play all the songs from Aries by Luis Miguel in response to finding pirate copies of the album being already sold? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Aries (album).
