Fixing missing taxon parameters

Hi, I'm not sure if you know this (apologies if you do), but the easiest way to add a missing taxon parameter when the article relies on the page title is to paste in | taxon = {{subst:PAGENAME}}; it saves having to type something different in each case. Thanks Peter, no I didn't know about this code. I was using copy/paste for the page name but typing | taxon = in each time. I also just learned of Bambot's template search tool from this very gnomish cleanup task as well (very useful). There is still much more for me to learn, even by doing it slowly and incrementally. I find there's always more to learn, however long you edit Wikipedia!

{{Automatic taxobox/sandbox}} now uses a Lua version which when made live will put articles with taxoboxes missing |taxon= in Category:Automatic taxoboxes relying on page title. When populated, it will be more up-to-date than the list here. I'm still testing the sandbox version, but hope to make it live later today or tomorrow. Hi. If the type species of a genus is no longer in that genus, then the genus ceases to exist, even if there are other species placed there. As such, all that matters is the type species of Eucharis (which I think is a junior homonym and permanently unavailable). My apologies, I completely forgot to change that back and I've also just read the wiki policy you linked to my page. I will make sure I adhere to it from hereon in!

My alteration to the Mammia Mia! Here We Go Again page was genuine - My 'day job' is acting and producing in Theatre and Film. You'll often find with film credits on pages like IMDB that a lot of cast are left off, this may be due to their scenes being cut or perhaps their name isn't 'big enough' to warrant the effort. Films will credit every single person in the Cinema credits and on Director's Cut edition DVD's but not always on standard commercial DVD's.

Can we either reinstate the edit, or add another a sub page for 'additional cast' which I will be happy to fill in the info for. I can cross reference between my production cast list and the IMDB credits and add in the extra few names.

Also, any new information should be referenced and unfortunately as user generated material, IMDb is not considered as a reliable source (see WP:UGC). More detail

Rather than saying Move to accepted name as per ASW 6.0 without any link to a discussion, please include a link. I can see that Ranoidea is used in US sources but not in Australia (which still uses Litoria), so it makes it hard to understand the reasoning for the move when it is a frog native to Australia and not the US. Hi Bidgee, the move was done as part of the Amphibians and Reptiles project to convert to automatic taxoboxes. Although the latest Amphibian Species of the World (ASW 6.0) is hosted by an American institution (the AMNH), it is being used as the accepted project standard for amphibian taxonomy world-wide. You are likely to see more such moves in the near future as project editors bring existing amphibian taxonomy in line with the project standard. "Prostherapis" dunni

We do, I think, need a better way of handling "quoted" genera in automated taxoboxes. I think the way "Prostherapis" dunni set up now is the best that can be done at present. I don't think it's right to say that the genus is "incertae sedis", because by the logic of a binomial, the first word is the genus, however uncertain. Thanks Peter, in this case though, I thought that the genus was incertae sedis and the quoted genus was just included as a placeholder to form a binomial until the taxonomic situation was resolved. In that way, the genus listing is Incertae sedis, as the species isn't currently placed in any genus at all, not Prostherapis, or even "Prostherapis". Also, having recently moved quite a few frog articles to pages with quotations around the genus name, I was looking to see how best to automate their taxoboxes. Speciesbox doesn't seem to work but Automatic taxobox does seem to come close. Is there a way that the taxobox script can abbreviate the genus name in the species entry line? For example, instead of repeating the full binomial on two succesive lines, render the output as "P." dunni? Yes, this is one of the items included under my comment we .. need a better way of handling "quoted" genera in automated taxoboxes. There's always a trade-off between handling more cases in automated taxoboxes and not making the code so complicated that it's hard to maintain. My initial thought is that the best approach might be to continue to use {{Automatic taxobox}}, but if the genus name has ".." around it, then leave out the genus line altogether, so for "Prostherapis" dunni, the taxobox would have:

Family: Aromobatidae

Species: "P." dunni

Binomial name

"Prostherapis" dunni

Leaving out the genus line can achieved at present by setting |parent=Aromobatidae in Template:Taxonomy/"Prostherapis" dunni, but the code that italicizes and abbreviates species names needs to be modified to handle the quote marks to produce "P." dunni.

I've updated the system so that it abbreviates a binomial like "Prostherapis" dunni to "P." dunni (ideally the double quote marks shouldn't be italicized, but I haven't fixed this yet). So there are now two ways of handling such a species, which I've described at Wikipedia talk:Automated taxobox system/Archive 3#Quoted genus names. Crocodylus quotes

Hi Plantdrew, "Crocodylus acer" seems to have been an error on my part (corrected now, thanks for pointing it out), but Crocodylus" megarhinus seems to have been caused by a bot (EmausBot) as it was moved to correct a double redirect on 07 Nov.
