User talk:LizrileymgaI think this is where I am supposed to keep my log. Today I read through the instructor's website, setup an account on wikipedia, and accessed class information on wikiedu. I also completed the first week's training modules. I have already learned that wikis do not include opinions, which is news to me. I am not 100% sure this is what I am supposed to do here. KerryMoniqueMcNair (talk) 15:37, 14 January 2020 (UTC)== Question about log == Should this include things like what I did for this class (training, reading, etc.) and wiki contributions (when we get further along)? L Riley (talk) 20:25, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
I likewise am not entirely sure if I am doing any aspect of this correctly. I think I created a log, I know I did the training, and I have made an account. Basically, I am right with you in terms of uncertainty. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Benjamin Fincher (talk • contribs) 00:43, 9 January 2020 (UTC)
Hi class, I am a little lost but glad to read your comments kerrymonique--KerryMoniqueMcNair (talk) 15:37, 14 January 2020 (UTC) Editing Middle Georgia State University pagesYesterday and today I have been jumped into editing the Middle Georgia State University page. I corrected a reference, added information about the establishment of Macon Junior College, and re-wrote several sentences to make them more readable. L Riley (talk) 14:44, 8 January 2020 (UTC) Wikiedu and wikipedia@Grlucas: I am confused about the difference between wikiedu and wikipedia. Our class seems to have pages on both. Are these somehow tied together behind the scenes or are they two completely different things?
User BoxesHey, in reply to your question, I used the template info found here to set up my user page. It is fairly customize able and gives you a ton of options/categories to display on your profile. Have fun :) Dcb1986 (talk) 19:18, 10 January 2020 (UTC) Learned how to use a templateToday I updated my user page using a wiki template and added "Macon Junior College" as an alternate name on the Middle Georgia State University page. I think this is going to take a minute to get used to and understand.Qtwinbush45 (talk) 01:02, 11 January 2020 (UTC) Hi everyone, I too am confused about the talk page. I asked a question but did not get a response. Should we work on our draft there (assuming that page is not visible to the world) or should we work on this in our sandbox and then move to the evaluate page once it's complete? L Riley (talk) 20:53, 12 January 2020 (UTC) Norris Church MailerI spent the day creating a first draft of the assignment to evaluate the article for Norris Church Mailer. This required reading other articles and researching references using Galileo. @Grlucas: Are all citations and references supposed to be in one particular format, like APA or MLA?

Should it be in the sandbox or some subpage somewhere? L Riley (talk) 20:33, 21 January 2020 (UTC)
ResponseHi! Are you referring to the pages that show up with this link? If so, then it looks like the specific page is listed. The given link will show any pages that exist that begin with "User:Lizrileymga" - although if the page hasn't been created yet, it won't show up. If there's another page, let me know by responding here with this tag: {{ping|Shalor (Wiki Ed)}}, minus the "nowiki" tags. Draft notesHi! I have some notes on your draft:
I hope this helps! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 00:11, 6 February 2020 (UTC) Peer ReviewHi @Lizrileymga:I completed my peer review of your draft article on Bibb Manufacturing. Overall I think you're off to a great start. One thing I noted in my review repeats Shalor's comment from above in that most of your sources are currently from newspapers that mention the topic in passing. With a few more substantial sources I think you'll have a well-developed article. I can't wait to read it when you've made your final edits. Ereed23 (talk) 01:30, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
Hey @Lizrileymga: I (finally) got my peer review finished. It looked pretty good, and I only saw one possible (small) improvement, noted at the bottom of the review. Have a good weekend! Dcb1986 (talk) 05:41, 23 February 2020 (UTC)
Reflexive StatementCritiquing articles My approach to critiquing articles on Wikipedia was to use the template provided in the critiquing tutorial. This guide helped me create my critique of the Norris Church Mailer article. In the process of searching for an article to improve or write, I also completed concise critiques of articles about Rose Hill Cemetery and the Johnston-Felton Hay House. The critiquing process helped me understand the unique way that Wikipedia articles should be laid out and the guidelines to be followed. I also learned that there are a lot of articles on Wikipedia that need work. Three problems that I noticed repeatedly were poorly constructed leads, a tone that is not neutral, and citation format issues. The critiquing process also helped me to avoid problems in the writing of my article. Lastly, my critiquing of articles led me to choose to add an article about Bibb Manufacturing. In the process of informally critiquing the articles about Rose Hill Cemetery and the Johnston-Felton-Hay House, I started looking at other articles that related to Macon. I discovered that there was no article about Bibb Manufacturing. Contributions My first contributions to Wikipedia were fairly small. In the Middle Georgia State University article, I added a short paragraph and a reference to Board of Regents meeting minutes, and I re-wrote a few sentences to make them more readable. In the Pio Nono College article, I added sentences and a reference. In the Porterdale, Ellamae Ellis League, and Bibb City articles I added links back to the newly written Bibb Manufacturing article. In the Johnston-Felton-Hay House article, I corrected a citation. In The Faith of Graffiti article, I add three references and changed several citations to SFN format. I added paragraphs in the Background and Reception sections and added sentences to the Synopsis. I also completed several passes at copyediting which resulted in re-writing of several sentences and re-working of the background section so that the transitions between paragraphs were smoother. I also added information to the information block, a picture, and several links. I wrote a new article for Bibb Manufacturing Company. This article includes 23 sources and three pictures. Research for this article required trips to Middle Georgia State’s library and Washington Memorial Library to read articles on microfilm. I also ordered three books via Interlibrary Loan and have contacted the author of one of the books. Once I had completed the article, I added a re-direct from "The Bibb Company" to the Bibb Manufacturing article. In WikiCommons, I uploaded five pictures related to Bibb Manufacturing. Peer review The first article that I reviewed was assigned to |kerrymonique. The article was titled "Spidelian hernia" and the student planned to improve it. The article was a little bit of a challenge because it addressed a medical topic about which I know nothing. In my review I noted that the Lead was where I felt the most improvements could be made. I also recommended some re-arranging of content and pointed out places that needed citations. The second article that I reviewed was a new article being written by Bamcclure18. At the time I reviewed it, it appeared to be in rough draft mode. In my review I noted grammatical errors and that the content should be re-arranged for easier reading. There were sentences that were run-on and the Lead needed to be expanded. Addition sources were also recommended. I have received reviews from two people; ereed23 and dcb1986. In both cases I was grateful for the suggestions. The first review identified some grammar errors and recommended that I expand the Lead to cover one additional section in the article. She also suggested that I add some pictures and links to other Wikipedia articles. The second review included positive comments and suggested that I change the title of one section. I have made all changes that were suggested. Feedback I received some feedback about my Bibb Manufacturing article draft from Shalor, although the feedback has disappeared now that the article is live. I attended to the problems that were pointed out. I also received feedback from Magor the Ogre on WikiCommons. While uploading pictures for my article, I did not properly license three of the pictures. I communicated with the Mago_the_Ogre and was able to correct the license so that the pictures can be used.
Wikipedia generally Contributing to Wikipedia has taught me several things. I learned how to use a platform and format with which I was completely unfamiliar. I learned to communicate with fellow editors through Talk pages. I learned how to write about a topic with which I have no familiarity. I also brushed up on my research skills. Lastly, I have a much better understanding and appreciation of the value of Wikipedia. These Wikipedia assignments were very different from any assignment I’ve ever done. Doing research, writing paragraphs, copy-editing, and creating citations were very familiar to me. Using the Wikipedia editor, following Wikipedia’s format for citations, and following Wikipedia’s rules/guidelines for the layout of articles were new to me and unlike any assignment I’ve done before. Also, communicating about assignments and to other classmates was very different. Historical information is scattered around in books, web pages, microfilm, and in the stories that people share verbally. Wikipedia provides a public, fact-based venue to pull together this information at no cost to readers and hopefully for many generations to come. This is important because when the information is gathered in one location it is easier to understand why and how things came to be. It is also important in this era of fake news to have a resource that people are diligently trying to keep neutral.
