[1] They discuss that the likely cause of the gradual decline is due to the chronic, autoimmune and or degenerative nature of the underlying causes associated with the condition. More than 50% of fibromyalgia sufferers have small fibre peripheral neuropathy (degeneration of pain nerves) which is a peripheral cause of pain. Whilst sufferers are encouraged to exercise as part of their therapy, pain often limits physical activity, resulting in de-conditioning.
