You need to create a {{Infobox road/New Zealand}} subtree with several files. It's geared towards US roads at the moment, and there seem to be few examples of it being used for other countries. You could look at the files used by Guam highways, eg Guam Highway 1: see the Guam subfiles. I don't know if there are any alternative templates for roads. 2) How come it doesn't show the significant natural changes to the shoreline wrought by the 1855 earthquake?

Alexander Turnbull images on Commons

Hi, the bot is at http://toolserver.org/~bryan/flickr/upload It only gives PD options for licensing, so I'm assuming PD-old is appropriate (although I just uploaded one which is only 69 years old). Category 1 Historic places

Hiya, I'm really not sure if we can justify having an article on every grade 1 historic place in the country. The ones I've looked at have no sources beyond those which confirm their listed status, and I believe that that fails notability guidelines. I think that if a set of things are each notable only for characteristic "A", then they belong in [[List of A]] instead. dramatic (talk) 09:48, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest you create New Zealand Historic Places Trust Category I listings, with a paragraph for each building. If there are too many for a single article, then create New Zealand Historic Places Trust Category I listings in Northland Region, etc. Where there is sufficient material for a separate article on an individual building, then link to the separate article as well as including the basic information in the parent article. If there is not sufficient material, but you have already created the article, redirect the article back to the parent. If more sources are found later, the redirect is easier to undo than a deletion. My feeling is that these historic buildings are mostly worthy of articles, although the sources required for many will be in books and newspapers rather than online. One of my original motivations for adding the listings as individual articles was that that way they could each be geo-tagged. Once they are geo-tagged they (eventually) end on Google Maps, and (/or) I speculate iPhone apps etc. (I don't have an iPhone, but would love a device to beep whenever I am physically near either a Wikipedia article subject, or, a historic building [as there are many that we walk by without noticing]). This would promote both Wikipedia and historic places (in my opinion, the Historic Places Trust does a poor job of using the Internet and technology to promote their cause, to the detriment of both them and New Zealanders) and everyday would be like a guided walking tour. Also, I think my leaning is towards inclusionism (which is probably why I forgot to check WP:N.

I am relaxed as to which way the content gets added. Do either of you know if there is a way for an article to have multiple geo points? Lanma726 (talk) 03:49, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On notability

So I went to the library and dug around for some books on historic buildings in Wellington. I found:

• Kernohan, D. (1994). "Wellington's Old Buildings", Wellington: Victoria University Press
• Cattell, J (1986) "Historic Buildings of Wellington" Wellington: Government Printing Office

which collectively mentioned almost all of the Wellington historic places I had added (with the exceptions of Fort Ballance and Erskine College, Wellington which I think I could find in other books if I looked harder).

Just to double check, does this pass the benchmark for notability? If so, might we still want to merge the articles nonetheless?

I'd say if each building gets a page or so in each book, it's notable. If it only gets a paragraph it is at best marginally notable. However, the ultimate test is when someone nominates an article for deletion. For an article with such sources, I think a nomination is unlikely. Merging of such articles to a list article as I suggested above is not necessary, but the list article might still be useful.

Articles can contain multiple coords (see Fjords of New Zealand for an example), but I don't know whether Google maps etc still index them in the same way.-gadfium 06:06, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
