I want to thank you very much. What a wonderful job. I feel so bad, after yelling "HELP". This was my last edit to Cedar Lake[1]. Four hrs. after that edit I was in the hospital getting prepared for an emergency appendectomy. I was just released from the hospital yesterday afternoon. All went well and I am fine. But I still have praise for you and everyone that participated in the AfD. My wife set up my laptop when I got settled in and my browser opens to the last page it was on when shut down. It was Cedar Lake. After I signed in I had a message waiting for me at my talk page, so I went there first, when I came back to cedar lake the first thing I noticed it wasn't flagged for deletion :). What a wonderful "Editors to the Rescue" collaboration. Again Thank You Very Much.

writing competition

Hi there. Im looking to have a writing competition held in September and I am looking for a couple people to help me with their thoughts and ideas. I have had some input on the competition and have had several chats with people outside the wikipedia talk pages and I have decided to keep the competition limited to the following restraints:

1. Judges and competitors are separate and there has to be a finite list of them.

2. The competition should range from a few days to no more than 2 weeks, depending on the theme. Not a year long competition and not multiple stages.

3. The theme will be either creating ONE new article, expanding a stub, illustrating a large article with no pictures, editing an article in crisis or something similar to these ideas. If its successful we can have more competitions with other themes.

4. My general idea (but this needs serious development) is to have each article judged two or three times. The top ten are then announced as finalists and every judge then reviews those articles and the top three are announced.

4. Simple is good. Decide theme, decide rules, find people, define judges, define scoring criteria, assign topic or stub or whatever, come up with a way to discourage other users from working on the page (by far most difficult part requiring a lot of ingenuity and good ideas). Judge. Sounds simpler than it really is doesn´t it?

5. Keep it informal, simple and fun.

6. Find a name for it.

Wanna help me with this? I´ll set up a new page and hope to build a team of three people to make this happen.

I know that Contents Boxes are automatically created. I guess I should have been more specific in my initial question. Is there a way I can make a custom Contents Box and put my own Contents in it? Categories: NRHP & California ?

Hi Killiondude, Good questions on simplifying the Category: & NRHP & California tree. Usually any "Category:Lists of xyz" are only for list articles, so perhaps Category:Lists of National Register of Historic Places in California is best under Category:National Register of Historic Places in California ? In interim spirit have temporarily done that, and then moved Category:National Register of Historic Places by County in California under Category:Lists of National Register of Historic Places in California as they are lists. Ideally "Cat:NRHP by County" title would be renamed to "Cat.:List of NRHP by County in CA" - but it gets very long ?
Also in good faith interim spirit, for your and other editors review—revert, took out "Cat:NH Sites" and "Cat:NH Districts" from "Cat:NRHP" and into parent Category:History of California to simplify tree.

Daccono

Two separate administrators identified Daccono as a sock puppet of Bonaparte/Iaaasi these are administrators Orangemike and Shirik (who also blocked indef). Further multiple non-administrators identified him as an obvious case. The banning policy prevents banned users from making non-authorized edits. Now there is the opinion of PeterSymonds a user who unblocked but also interestingly says "I would've blocked based on behavioural evidence just the same meaning there is in the opinion of 3 administrators a behavioural correlation between the banned user and this account. I read the diff. There seems to have been an off-wiki conversation between the two following that but the actual on-wiki behavioural evidence is block worthy by even Symonds as the quote shows. Anyway should I find someone to reblock based on the evidence or should he be just reverted? Meaning in your opinion does being blocked indef. for sockpuppetry, then unblocked create a sort of immunity around him meaning he can't be ever reverted again? Don't be silly. He was blocked as a sockpuppet, which was appealed; technical evidence indicated he was innocent, so I unblocked him. It gives him no editorial immunity whatsoever. I haven't followed Daccono's edits, but if he's causing difficulties, please report the issues to the appropriate venues. But please stop harking on about his sockpuppetry; that's a moot point, because technical evidence suggests his innocence. PeterSymonds (talk) 19:21, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Killiondude, Thanks for the category work appreciation. The 'wiki-gardener goal' is for good "about places-history" articles to be findable through an 'expected' cat. in wiki's country-state-county system.
With parent-child cat. duplication I understand your point and wiki-policy, and predominantly do replace a parent with the new child cat.. Sometimes if an article seems [to me] about a significant enough element in a jurisdiction, and there aren't "Cat:Parks of X" or "Cat:History of X" yet, I occasionally leave parent cat. 'temporarily' too, as did with Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area-park & Yolo Bypass-history.
It is done as 'just one editor's opinion' with openness for others to reevaluate-remove. I will be more reticent to make those exceptions hereon though, per your message. Help me learn to create 2 lists

I am continuing to learn editing of the M734 Fuze article and the sentence below is for teaching purposes. The sentence has two inline citations that appear in a list under the Reference section since it has the Reflist. Questions: 1) How would it have to be written to have the second citation appear under the Patents heading?? 2) Is is appropriate to have an external link in the second citation if it supports the sentence? 3) If the external link is legal in Wiki, is wording needed to show Google as the source?

Yolo County Courthouse

Thanks for the pointer. You'll notice that I didn't edit the statewide list — it appears that nobody ever updated the Yolo County total on that list to include the courthouse, and that was one reason that I didn't trust the inclusion. The listing date was another issue; because it was given solely as "1986", and because the statewide list showed Yolo County with 23 entries, I assumed that someone had looked at nrhp.com, noticed that it showed a courthouse listed in 1986 that wasn't on the list, and added it without checking behind the scenes. I think I disagree with this move, and I certainly think it needs discussion. The wording helpme is used in many, many places, and this could cause more confusion than it resolves. Also, there are all the other templates, such as {{helpme-nq}} to consider. I'd have to give it more thought, but I'd like to see it moved back for now, pending discussions. What wording used is irrelevant, as it should be transparent to users. However, the trend has been towards using more grammatically sound titles. I didn't understand why the original db-move was declined in favour of red tape which would undoubtedly have resulted in a move anyway, so the action which would result in least wasted time was to move it anyway and then ping the admin in question. If it is so desired to have a discussion about this, then anyone should feel free to move the page back. Admins are empowered to make actions like this to help the project run more smoothly, which is what I felt happened here. I'm sorry Killiondude disagrees with that. Hi,Killiondude, I think you had better thank my wife, who was complaining about all my time spent online doing that work. Over a year ago I spent a lot of time at WP:IFU and then WP:FFU as it was renamed. I still think there is plenty of backlog if you look further back. The logo requests should be valid for years. One niggling issue that should be fised is that the non-free logo template is clashing with the ifu a/ifu b templates, the non-free logo closing the collapse box early. I don't think Henrik will update his site; he's been away from Wiki*edia for quite awhile, if you notice that I've been answering some of the questions on his talk page while he's been absent. I was going to suggest that this might be something that User:Emw might be able to do on his spin off of Henrik's tool, but it appears to be down. Hi Killiondude, I thought I'd better bring your attention to one of the odder quirks of the sticky prod process, it is for literally unsourced articles not poorly sourced ones. In the last RFC I tried to broaden it to include articles "sourced" from Facebook, Myspace, Linkedin or Utube, but failed to get consensus as some editors wanted to keep this a brightline test. There is {{BLP IMDB refimprove}} (also has a 'only=yes' option that rewords the message slightly) that clearly states why IMDB isn't considered good enough. Put yourself into the brain of a new editor who's just created a page for his favourite actor and get hit with a BLP unsourced tag, so jumps on google, grabs the IMDB link and adds it, only to be told that it isn't considered a source. Sorry for the delayed response. I got your message the day you left it for me and I went to do it. However, I found on metawiki that Special:Import was deceptive in that it says I can import from "w:" so I thought I could then type in ru: and then the article name. It said this was invalid and I realized that the "w:" must only mean the English Wikipedia. The same day I poked Steven about pulling the content to metawiki from ru.wp because he has the import right on metawiki. He said he would do it as soon as he had a spare moment, but he seems to have forgotten about it. I'll prod him again when I see him on IRC. I don't remember you asking (though it's completely possible you did). The chances of you passing an RFA with less than several thousand edits is slim to none. The Community(tm) likes to think that edit count doesn't matter too much, but in reality it is used as an indicator of how much time you've spent around the project. That's not the only metric used but it's the first thing apparent to me when I looked at your account. Try watching some current RFAs to get a better feel of what's required. Asking an IP editor with one edit's experience to fill out a FUR template is a bit much. I think either you do it or don't. I myself have uploaded several fair use images from requests on this page in the past, and not once did I ask them to fill out a fair use rationale. Half of Wikipedia's power users probably can't fill one out correctly for God's sakes. Today, 20 months later, the individual who nominated the file made two basically unexplained edits connected to this image, [11], [12]. As I explained at Talk:Interpretations of 2001: A Space Odyssey#As a courtesy to other contributors could we please discuss controversial issues on the talk page, not in our edit summaries? I think those excisions were mistakes, given the interest shown in the {{ffd}}.

WP:AGF -- I am going to assume they were good faith mistakes.

As the administrator who closed the {{ffd}} do you have any extra role in making sure the participants in the discussion conduct themselves in accordance with your conclusion of it? Do you think the nominator should take the issue to DRV, if they disagreed with your conclusion?

About your AN/ANI thread, I've read through a few times today and it seems to be a situation where no one felt like they had enough time to read what you were saying fully (with exception to Beyond My Ken) and immediately clicked the section's "edit" link to write the first thing that popped into their head. This happens a lot on Wikipedia; even I have been known to do it. Generally, if you feel a title isn't proper/appropriate, and would like to get a second opinion, it's safe to go to the talk page(s) for the WikiProject(s) that are associated with that article and ask there. In this case, I'm not sure if that would be entirely helpful since it could bring about all sorts of nationalist crap, which is one of the top n things I hate on Wikipedia. If you have an inkling about what page title you think it should be, I'd recommend what Ken said, which is (i) Post on the talk page about the possible page move. If no one answers within a few days, just move it (WP:SILENCE). Or, (ii) Just move it and see if anyone reverts (aka WP:BRD). Hope that helps. Killiondude (talk) 20:32, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. It's a start. I was thinking that this can't be the first time this kind of thing has happened, so someone might have had a recollection of precedent or pursuing similar thoughts. I did, in fact, post on the relevant page, feeling like a right gumby talking to an empty room. I'll wait some more (a week is what I said to Beyond My Ken) and ruminate some more. I found a bigger page on the Maltese Exiles mentioned in the page at hand; I was pondering approaching those editors about a possible merge or some other association; what do think of that idea? Are merges preferred to mutual linking? Short of that I might just do what you suggested after the grace period has expired. I noticed and have since removed the page from my watchlist. I went through WP:Database reports/Completely unreferenced biographies of living people (newest) and just checked to see if the article met the requirements for the BLP PROD. My personal view for BLPs is that the article should have some form of citations at the time of submitting. It is nice, however, if people (such as yourself) go through and provide sources for these articles, but I'd rather have no article than an unreferenced one. Thank you for researching that one. Brooke Fraser

Hello,

You wrote me a message about the edits I had made to the Brooke Fraser wikipedia entry. I spent a lot of time researching the content I put in as I am a fan of her music. The two sections I took out were both miss-quotes (one was about her old management company) and the other about her personal views that if you read the reference article is a clear mis-quote. The information I put in was referenced from her website and two recent interviews she did (one referencing the poor representation of her on Wikipedia) which prompted my edits. I am in no way trying promote Brooke's career but rather give her fans more information, especially regarding her third album where there is a serious lack of content on considering it has been her most successful album to date.

The profile photo is also clearly a photo taken by a fan and doesn't represent her well at all.

Please can you reinstate my edits as they took me a long time to do.

Just to clarify for other readers, we're talking about this edit.
In the Flags section, you have changed the chart listings without citing any reliable sources to back that information up. I may have misread that section incorrectly earlier, thus thinking you were promoting Fraser in the article.
In the "Personal life" section, it's not a misquote because it's not a quote at all. I think you meant that it is being paraphrased incorrectly. The article text says this:
Despite the Christian character of much of her music, she has been quite vocal of her discontent with the commercialized nature of some of the Contemporary Christian Music industry.
The cited page actually quotes her as saying:
I'm vehemently opposed to being called a Christian Musician in terms of the CCM [Contemporary Christian Music] music industry. And I know a lot of people, particularly people making worship music, who feel the same way. They're pretty disturbed by what CCM has become -- the merchandising of the Gospel. There are those who are actually abusing the name of Jesus, making money off of what is sacred and turning the temple into a marketplace. And at the same time you have to acknowledge that there are those who have genuine hearts and who are truly doing what God has called them to do... you can't tar everyone with the same brush. So my position is that I refuse to be associated with that part of the industry, but am I a Christian?
So obviously she's critical of the CMM industry, or at least a major portion of it. I don't see an issue with the article text given the direct quote above (which is used as a source for that sentence in the Wikipedia article).
As far as the photo(s) in her article, we're limited because Wikipedia only uses freely licensed files. So, someone has to be willing to give their photo a free license allowing anyone to use it under any circumstance (even for commercial works). Yobot's blocks so far

Hi. Since you mentioned my blocks so far and my tension to unblock my own bot, I would like to explain my point of view aside to the main discussion. It's better like that so we clear the things one after the other before they become enormous.

Yobot's block log

2009
  • 1 block. The blocker apologised to me for blocking. It was a misunderstanding of how the bot moves categories.
2010
  • 5 blocks. It turned to be a combination of 2 or 3 AWB/Kingbot bugs that was causing the trivial edits (I have info on by bot's talk page somewhere). Two self unblocks (the first because the indicated bug was already fixed, there was no complain for the self-unblock, the second to perform other tasks. The bot resumed initial task only when the blocker agreed).
2011
  • 1 block for "edit warring" (2RR). In to my opinion there were 10 other ways to solve the problem.
  • 2 more blocks. Both related to the discussed matter.
    • None of the 2011 blocks were self-unblocked.

That's a "self-unblock" (your wording) in 2011. It's also probably wheel warring (which is not to be confused with edit warring which takes more than 1 revert--reversing any other admin's actions without discussion can immediately be defined as wheel warring).

Oh of course, it's just that I'd changed the wording on the last edit, so it seemed more like more a partial revert—not that it's a big deal or anything! I agree the deadpan style wasn't perfect, but I don't really like the link to doublespeak; the whole page is kind of a doublespeak/devil's dictionary/insider's guide, etc.— and it's incredibly clever! Actually linking to doublespeak for one of the entries seems like kind of a tack-with-a-sledgehammer type deal, or a wink, wink, this entry is not being entirely truthful, which given the nature of the page is kind of expected. Un-CSD?

Hi, I am unsure how to deal with this. It appears (now that it has a heading) that it is actually intended as a real article. It was originally tagged by someone else as patent nonsense. I recognized what looked like words from some language I've done some subtitling in and have determined it seems to be Filipino - though I still (via Google Translate) cannot make much sense of it - I suspect because it is lacking accent marks and such. Conflict of Interest

I'm new to this wiki thing. I appreciate the "talk" about what is and isn't conflict of interest and how to properly edit.

I dont know how to change my username, but I have opened a different account that is not the company's I am editing name.

What I did add to the page I edited was basic knowledge that I got from 3 party sources. Not new's papers, but not from the company's website. None of the material added was biast or should be seen as advertisment. It is just knowledge about the establishment. I updated some of the things that were previously added and elaborated on some parts that were vague. I believe that the article lives up to the COI guidelines.

I am not sure where it goes from here. I do not plan to bully anyone from posting on the page what seems appropreiate.

Hope to hear if there back from you.... unless its bad news. :)

I didn't actually click through to see what your edits were, I just looked at your account's contributions. Creating a new account is perfectly fine, in fact most people probably do. You might be interested in reading some of the pages I linked to in the "welcome" thingy on your page-- they have some of the core policies on Wikipedia. Citing source material is a good start! However, we try to use mainly things not from companies websites (as they're not quite reliable), but doing so sometimes is okay.
Hope your first interaction with someone else on Wikipedia (me) wasn't too bad. :-) Maybe you'll even decide to stick around!

Deletion of Masterofgo.sgf?

Hello! I note you deleted Masterofgo.sgf but I can't find the reason why (unless it's the "unsupported file format" but why would that be an issue, I see many other such files?)

I used to use that file quite a bit; it also leaves this page The Master of Go with a dangling link, which should at the very least be removed.
