Villages

Wikituneup

Give me one good reason why you people keep removing wikituneup from the site? The list of wikis page simply states a list of websites that use the wiki software .. How the hell does the site not apply to that????? Irt3hj4y (talk) 15:44, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Because Wikituneup does not seem to be a notable wiki. The de facto notability criteria on List of wikis is that the wiki should have a Wikipedia article. Browse the list yourself and you'll see that the only wiki with a red link is Wikituneup -- because the page does not exist. I suggest that you find reliable third-party sources and create the article, then, if the article survive the deletion process for new pages you may add it to the list. That is why your link keeps getting removed, and I'm sure that someone will remove it again very soon. This is the way we avoid the list turning into a big WP:LINKFARM and/or filled with non-notable wikis. jonkerz♠ 16:00, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

The only reason why it's red linked is cause some dink removed it. The article was perfectly setup just like other webpage wikipedia entries. There is some sites on here that are garbage with little internet presence that have live pages on wikipedia. Hi Divoc, to begin with, I highly appreciate that you declared your possible conflict of interest in this matter. Regarding the links, I primary made the editorial judgement to remove them since they were added en masse from what looked to be a COI account, not because ITC is a bad resource. In my opinion there is no room for links like these since Wikipedia is not a linkfarm, but other editors may feel different. If you still feel that the ITC links should be placed in the External links section I suggest that you leave a message on the External Links Noticeboard and ask the people active there, because re-adding them right away would probably be seen as link spam by a lot of other editors.

If you are interested in contributing to Wikipedia I think that adding inline text to articles using ITC as a source is a better solution. jonkerz♠ 16:54, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Major cleanup underway at Kayastha; your help would be appreciated

Greetings, I'm doing a major chop on Kayastha, removing caste puffery, adding proper citations about the controversy of their varna designation, and generally trying to hack out unref, OR, and other unsuitable materials. If you have any chance at all to chip in, it'd be greatly appreciated. Likewise, even watchlisting and keeping an eye out for upset editors removing my (full footnoted) notations about their possible Shudra status (an unpopular topic) would be appreciated. Thanks! Tagging

The next time you come across a problem with an article, instead of tagging it, how about fixing it instead? Tagging merely pushes the problem off to someone else, and creates an unsightly article in the meantime. In my opinion, if you can tag 15 articles in the time it takes to fix 1, that time is much better spent correcting in fixing the single article. Tagging is, in other words, a very poor non-solution to a problem.

Placing tags is, in itself, not a means of improving the encyclopedia: It is only a means of asking other people to improve an article that you cannot or will not improve yourself. (from WP:OVERTAGGING)

Thanks for adding the reference. I was about to WP:SOFIXIT using the same source as you but ran into an edit conflict when saving the changes. Fixing is superior to tagging, I agree with that, but when it comes to the decision of leaving an article unchanged or tagging I think it's a small net-gain to tag it. Signatures are not used in body text of articles as it would make the text look messy due to the hundreds, sometimes thousands, signatures. This is why I had to remove your signs from Hybrid (biology) (but don't forget that your contributions still are higly appreciated!). The only things that are signed on Wikipedia are comments on user pages and the articles' discussion pages and so on.

The way contributors are attributed is by listing them in the article history (click on "View history" to see it), this is sort of a signature and it is done automatically when you save a new revision.

Unfortunately there is not way to sign anonymous edits, but it's possible to list all edits made by an IP with the Special:Contributions function (click here for an example). If you want to follow up on the pages you have edited you can add them to your Special:Watchlist; that way all the changes will show up automatically in list format. Hello Jonkers. I followed your right suggestion and I added the references correctly requested from you. Sorry for the long time, but I had to find by myself the sources without having the possibility of translating them. Actually I translated the English voice from the original voice in German language, but in that voice there are no sources.

Look at the German page now, you should be able to see the corresponding German template if you're logged in. The German Wikipedia uses Flagged revisions (a system in which all edits have to be marked as patrolled before they become visible to non-logged in readers), so you have to use this link if you're not logged in or if you want to view the page in Google Translate. Dear Jonkerz; Hope this meets you well? I want to commend you on you good work; however I am sure you are mistaken in some areas. 1. There are a lot more Christians than Muslims in Nigeria. Where did you get your own information from? Please check reliable sources like the World Bank Data-set or surveys carried out by The Nigerian Bureau of Statistics for this information. You probably got your information from the CIA website; that information is false. 2. Nigeria is not an Arabic country? I believe the language that you are aiming for is Hausa. Why don't you write in that language and not Arabic? 3. In the Article on USA, France, Germany and the UK; you don't have pictures of Negroes burning during the days of segregation and slavery and you don't have a picture of the horrors of the World Wars. Why is it that you try to stereotype us by having a picture of a starving girl during the long forgotten Biafra War? Most Nigerians don't even know about that war. Shouldn't that be on another page? I've added the page numbers for the reference to Marie Paradis now, but my copy of the book is very different from the archive.org version you found, and the story is on different pages. It would be great if you could change the page numbers to the archive.org version as it's available online, and then add an url parameter to the citation template. New Page Triage engagement strategy released

I'm dropping you a note because you filled out the New Page Patrol survey, and indicated you'd be interested in being contacted about follow-up work. This is to notify you that we've finally released both the initial documentation about the project and also the engagement strategy, which sets out how we plan to work with the community on this. Howdy! Projects' main pages and are sorted this way to make them easier to find (articles are sorted in the same way, for example Botany in Category:Botany). The use is not obvious for categories containing only a few pages (like Category:WikiProject Red Link Recovery), but take a look at Category:WikiProject Organized Labour to see that it's actually quite useful. jonkerz ♠talk 11:10, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

poster fair use rationale.

I see you have been uploading some posters to the african films. The justification for fair use you included was "to provide critical commentary on the film, event, etc. in question or of the poster itself, not solely for illustration". I am not sure that that is actually the case, what commentary was provided via the poster or using the poster? It seems it was soley for illustration? Gaijin42 (talk) 15:20, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

Is it actually a DVD Cover? In any case, I see two licensing templates on that file, and the first one is talking about the poster, and included the text I found above. I think there is likely some issue that needs to be resolved at a policy/guideline level regarding fair use, if the second license justification is allowed(for illustration), but the first is not. i will try to find an appropriate venue. Re:Endemic animals

You are right, I wasnt paying enough attention. One thing though: we probably have 100s of articles on Australian endemic Lepidoptera, so if you want to do it properly you should add that cat to all of those. Sorry for removing the cat. Ruigeroeland (talk) 14:43, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

After looking into it, I think the year/runtime/country should be 2010/78/France/Senegal. We can trust the author to know these specifics, and they are backed up by a few sources such a [7] (2010/78), [8] (2010/80), and [9] (2009/80). I think your version of the Alassane Diago article is better. The author naturally has a COI here and has removed the part about his father three times; I guess WP:UNDUE is the only possible reason to not include it. jonkerz ♠talk 15:26, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

National cinema navigation templates

Never did, because I never got any replies. Looking back at the discussion, I think it's OK to remove them anyway: only one editor thinks that they should stay on some articles (not based on any actual guidelines) while four editors think they should be removed (per WP:NAVBOX, MOS:FILM and WP:BURDEN). They clutter the page and, imo, are useless and ugly. I am typing this out for editors who may visit my talk page once the War on Templates has begun. You will need references (3rd-party websites, books, newspaper articles, etc.) to verify the content; you can read more about references at Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners. Try to write in a more encyclopedic tone. For example, "Considered one of the hottest Hispanic heartthrobs in the entertainment industry", which you added here, is not encyclopedic and sounds very promotional, so avoid sentences like that. You are free to remove unsourced material if it is false. Also keep in mind that it is generally frowned upon to edit articles about yourself on Wikipedia, due to the conflict of interest, so you must be extra careful with your contributions! Evolution of the hippocampus

Hi -- just to explain what I did, I'm the author of most of hippocampus, but I actually wasn't aware of the existence of that subarticle until I saw the link you added. When I looked at it, I saw that it was full from top to bottom of false information -- clearly whoever wrote it had a very weak understanding of evolutionary relationships. The few correct things essentially duplicate info that is already in Hippocampus#Evolution. So it seemed like redirecting is the most useful action at this time.
