Holland

Hi. I don't care much about the source. The name Holland as a substitute for the Netherlands is simply wrong. Within the Netherlands, there hasn't been a Holland ever since 1840. Fnorp (talk) 11:20, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Well, the source has got it wrong. Inform yourself about the difference between Holland and the Netherlands instead. Why insist on using an archaic name for a part of the country instead of the real name of the whole country while all other names in that sentence are names of countries too? How is that attitude helping the accuracy of Wikipedia? See [[1]]. I'm reverting your edit. There is no country Holland, there is no province or county of that name. Holland ended in 1840. I think you're being a touch aggressive here. You could just make the correction without all the associated vitriol. Do you expect the same reaction of Germans insisting on Deutschland when English speakers use Germany? What if they insisted on people using the name of their language as 'Deutsch' and from the Netherlands as 'Nederlandersich?'That's right - it would be seen as pedantic and more than a little ridiculous. Archaic names often persist in different languages, and through common use are not archaic in those places. Whether or not the name Holland has the same usage in the Netherlands, and whatever its strictly technical definition, the name Holland is in common usage in English as an alternate name of the country, and it has been for centuries. I think that an encyclopedia should try to get the facts right. Your examples ("Nederlandersich", really?) indicate that you have no idea what this is about. This is not a matter of whether or not Germany should be called Germany in English, it's a matter of whether it should be called Prussia. Or whether it's OK to call Great-Britain England. KLM (& AF) connections from Ottawa Rail Station

This is KLM's home site in Canada: https://www.klm.com/home/ca/en
I don't know whether it's accessible from other countries.
Click the "From" dialogue box - and Ottawa Rail Station (XDS) will drop-down.
The code XDS doesn't work at all websites, but it certainly works at KLM & AF sites!
KLM & AF provide bus connections (separately!) to and from YUL. Usually for $0, but not always.
Let me know if this isn't enough.

Seems to me that airlines serve passengers! And a smart airline will pick up / drop off passengers wherever they want to start from or go to. So, as smart airlines, AF & KLM serve Ottawa in this manner. The buses even have flight numbers! Did you check my link?
I added this info in good faith to help anyone who happens to visit this page. This is the first time - to my knowledge - that anyone has treated any of my contributors in this manner. I'm reluctant to re-add it without some assurance that my work won't be removed again.

I note that neither of your replies addresses the verifiable info I provided. Your comment about hotel pick-ups was a red-herring - but staying with the facts, one can't book a ticket from a hotel, whereas one can book a ticket from, or to, XDS.
Noting your threat, I won't waste my time re-adding accurate and useful info to your page. Selfishly, it doesn't particularly bother me, because I already have the info. But taking a wider view, it is those users who don't have this info who will lose out.
That's unfortunate.

Turkish Airlines - Bogotá

In the source that was provided, there was a date indicated, but it also said that the route had still to be approved (which was expected, but I assume, not certain or official). Then, I'd be rather reserved about including (already) Bogotá in the future destinations, with a determined date to start those operations. I have been editing the map of the destinations. I'll put Colombia in dark blue, if a more asservative source is provided and/or in the other Wikipedias (namely the Turkish!) there is a consensus about this new destination. Removal of planespotters.net from airline articles

Hello Jetstreamer!

I see you have removed a reference to planespotters.net which I had placed on Biman Bangladesh Airlines due to it being an unreliable source. I always had my doubts on that site (for various reasons), but used it anyway due to the fact it was used on other airline pages, notably: Regent Airways, United Airways, Novoair and US-Bangla Airlines. I understand the articles I mentioned aren't as well monitored as Biman, but they have references from the site being used nonetheless. Now that I am sure of its unreliability, should I have it removed from them? There could be other articles using it too.

I would like to point out, to date, I haven't really found anything on planespotters.net which I could definitely label incorrect either from personal knowledge or with info from reliable sources. Moreover, many articles use the site to cite important details. Let me know what you think should be done, feel free to do anything on your own as I might not be available for the next few days.

@Rihazrihazrihaz: Hello Rihaz, it's good to stay in touch again. For the cases you mention, I do not recommend to remove the source from that articles unless more reliable sources are found. Typically, the information provided by the airline should be enough to support the fleet table, but there are carriers that do not give out this (e.g. Libyan Airlines), so an alternative should be found. The unreliability of Planespotters.net, ch-aviation or Airfleets has been raised by many users a number of times, but they keep being used massively accross airline articles. Specifically for Biman Bangladesh Airlines, I believe there's no need to supplement the information provided by the airlines itself. Please note that, given that this official info does not include the recently incorporated Dash 8s, there's a separate reference included for these aircraft. Hope this helps. AR service at London Heathrow Airport

According to http://airlineroute.net/2015/05/06/ar-lhr-sep15/, Aerolineas Argentinas will be operating limited service to Heathrow in the months of October and September 2015. A user continues to add it but it was removed. It looks like it will operate as one-off special occasion charter flights (and it doesn't seem to be a regular service hence the words "limited service") but I am not sure it is notable to include in the table. @SideshowBob7: I don't think I have a problem neither with simple nor wih complex maths, I have a Ph.D. Aside from that, nobody reading the article can possibly guess the way the Qatar Airway's order book changed since December. WP:VERIFY is crystal clear and WP:CALC mentions consensus among editors. Where's your consensus? And it doesn't mater if I like policies or not, they are there to be followed. Placement of Portals

Hello Jetstremer, you reverted an edit regarding the placement of a Portalbar stating that Portals are not external links. That's correct, but before lecturing others, you should read the guidelines for the use of Portalbars which you can find here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Portal_bar. I quote: "Within articles, this template is usually placed at the bottom of the article just above the navboxes." (and NOT at the "see also"-section) which was correcty done and has been criticised by you as wrong, which it isn't. You can discuss if the use of Portalbars instead of Portals makes sense, but don't lecture others based on your lack of knowledge of the rules you seem to refer to. The WP:VERIFY policy stands. A single incident of this does not merit the article and the policy while states the intent, there are many possible means of resolution including using the {{cn}} template. Further, the information does not appear to be incorrect. According to this source it would appear that Volaris will have a connection from Mexico City International Airport to Chetumal International Airport. While the burden is on the original editor to provide a viable source, it also appears they're a less experienced editor (as indicated in their attempt to add a photo gallery) AND it's possible the source they provided does contain that information. It's difficult to tell because it's behind a java UI where that information needs to be pulled. I suggest some patience and understanding is forwarded to them. Also be aware that most of the flight destinations are not supported by a reference. It's likely they're copying what has already been done in the article. If you removed that piece of information, it's possible they would take that as a cue and gut most of the article (by which against WP:VERIFY they could also do since most of it is unreferenced). The key in verify is "contentious" material. The rest can be improved upon as the article grows. Not all articles are expected to be perfect from their start. Mkdw^talk 18:47, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

Just a question

I came across this list: List of airlines of Kosovo, and what called my attention was the alleged Air Prishtina founded in 1981. At that time, Prishtina and Kosovo were part of Serbia, within Yugoslavia, and I am not an expert but I can say I am familiarized with the airlines events that happened there in history. As early as 1970s there were some minor regional airliners in Yugoslavia (besides the major ones), but I never heard about Air Prishtina. Now, from what I saw on their website, seems that ever since the beginning till now they were only a simple travel agency offering flight seats at real airlines operating in the airports in the region (namely Pristina and Skopje as it seems). So I am not sure if then they can qualify really as an airliner. Here they talk about their partners for flight operations (from what I read they have zero planes of their own), and even in their history article I also fail to see any plane mentioned, not even leased ones. I am not wanting to be too bold and remove Air Prishtina from the List of airlines of Kosovo without having your opinion first. Where do you find a source to verify that transportation to and from airports is -and has always been- a problem in Argentina? Copa Airlines leaving SkyTeam.

Hello Jetstreamer,

To clarify, Copa Airlines left SkyTeam the same time as Continental Airlines (now merged with United Airlines) left SkyTeam as well on October 24, 2009 (to join Star Alliance). Continental Airlines and Copa Airlines were partners and shared the same frequent flyer program until the former fully merged with United Airlines in 2012. That same year, Copa Airlines fully joined Star Alliance as a member. I think a full date (October 24, 2009) for Copa Airlines leaving SkyTeam should be provided as oppose just the year that Copa Airlines left SkyTeam; it should be more or less specific. If you have any concerns, please reply and we can discuss.

Warsaw Chopin Airport

Hey. Can you take a look at this page? LOT Polish Airlines is ending 4 destinations from Warsaw (Chisnau, Zagreb, Belgrade, and Yeveran) beginning 1 July 2015 and there is a source but however a user is insisting that these routes are resuming in January 2016 and I have reverted his edits because the source provided doesn't state that services will resume. I don't see anything wrong with mentioning that there were plans to start those routes despite the airline subsequently shelved them. The content has been restored and the Airline project has been informed about your actions. That's nice to know - I do see something wrong with providing outdated, erroneous information. Looking across several other airline pages, this is not standard practice at all. Ethiopian Airlines Flight 604: Revision history

Greetings, the change I made for this aviation accident was from the first source, "http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19880915-0" which had been previously sourced in the article after "At the time of the accident the aircraft was less than a year old" under source 1.

I would prefer to discuss the re-removal before there is another revert as to prevent WP:3RR. My main reasoning behind adding this was the fact that the majority of other major airline disasters have the accident description from either the FAA/ICAO. I am personally reading it, but adding the source as well as well as changing it slightly to add another link within the article to bird strike. --KoRoBeNiKi SSBWiki Rollback Moderator and chess specialist 13:29, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

Template:Date

I noticed your recent edit to Aeroflot. There are good reasons why {{date}} should not be used in mainspace, and especially not to supply an argument to citation templates:

• See Template:Date#Description. Note that it says, in bold, "This template should only be used internally in other templates." In other words, it should not be used directly within mainspace articles, but only as a sub-template within another template.
• This is reinforced in the citation template documentation. See Template:Cite_news#COinS: Use of templates within the citation template is discouraged because many of these templates will add extraneous HTML or CSS that will be rendered in the metadata.

I would add that {{date}} in this context is pointless: it does nothing useful and merely serves to clutter up the article.

These flights are available to book, and based on the reservation engine it's possible to find out the start date. If you really want to do something positive for Wikipedia, then please write an article about Atlasglobal UA as it's a new airline in Ukraine. You have recently removed the routes Lviv-Istanbul, Kharkiv-Istanbul and Odessa-Istanbul. The shootdown occurred about a month after the Kano air disaster. I don't have a source, but the Template:Aviation accidents and incidents in 1973 includes all accidents that may be considered notable from that year. None approached the mark of Libyan Arab Flight 114. I won't re-add this information it until I find an outside source.

Hi, I was looking for a source about Alitalia CityLiner and SkyTeam, and another user has found two sources: The first source (http://www.wegotravel.ch/it/compagnie-aeree/alitalia-cityliner-ct) says clearly that Alitalia CityLiner is a SkyTeam member, but I don't know if It is a reliable source. The second one is from Alitalia website (http://www.alitalia.com/it_it/millemiglia/programma/regolamento/edizione-2013-2015.html) where is written (in Italian) that in this document the writing "la compagnia" (the airline) relates to Alitalia and Alitalia CityLiner, and later says that "la compagnia" is partner of SkyTeam. Delta Airlines/Air Lines on Vietnam Airlines

Hi,

I corrected a typo on Vietnam Airlines, where "Delta Air Lines" was erroneously written "Delta Airlines" (that's a common mistake). You reverted my edit, and pointed to WP:BROKEN: could you please read it again? It states that "Good reasons to bypass redirects include [...] Spelling errors and other mistakes should be corrected. Don't link to a misspelled redirect". Since Vietnam Airlines is obviously talking about Delta Air Lines in the ref, and since there's obviously a spelling error in that ref (yes, references can have mistakes sometimes), I don't see why "Delta Airlines" should be kept instead of "Delta Air Lines".

That is a spelling error in the supporting source. Delta Airlines does not exist, it is called Delta Air Lines. Easy way to see that the source has a typo: it links to Delta conditions of carriage, which state "Unless otherwise provided, any reference to “Delta” in this document refers to Delta Air Lines, and also refers to the Delta Shuttle, and the Delta Connection carriers". If you think every reference is 100% reliable, including this one, then why not also turn the KLM link into "Royal Dutch Airlines", or the El Al link into "Israel Airlines"? Sources in Airline/Airport Info Box

I added a source per your request on ABX Air for the hubs it has. Generally though sources are left off hubs in the infoboxes per WP:Airport, and put somewhere in the article. Usually sources are only added if someone challenges the status of the hub. I think it is pretty clear though that these two aiprots are ABX's hubs if you look at the destination lists with 27 from CVG and 15 from MIA. Unless you somehow want to challenge this, although it is on their website as I cited, the sources should not be there. I do see the source you used, it opens to the correct page and everything. My contention is that source itself has typos on the spelling of Gorna Oryahovitsa and Stara Zagora, and that Philippopolis has not been used as a name for Plovdiv since the middle ages, certainly not in the 1950's. I think most of this should be apparent by naming of those cities in both Wikipedia and Google Maps (notice that you need to redirect the internal links for those city articles to correct for the typos/outdated names).

Thank you for your prompt response. My contention is that while the current source material seems to be great for describing the state of this airline in the 1950's, it appears to be a poor source for the correct spelling/naming of these Bulgarian cities. You can see that the map in that source refers to Yugoslavia as 'Jugoslavia', yet we don't use that spelling anywhere on Wikipedia, not in the Yugoslavia article, and not even in the article we're discussing which has references to Yugoslavia within. If I had a source that listed the headquarters of United Airlines as in 'Chikago', but otherwise contained good information, surely we wouldn't need to keep that typo in the article?

I can see that this has been added and reverted in the past by others using the same logic, so I went to the trouble of sourcing the spelling of each of these cities on Google Maps, which I contend is reliable source material. My concern is that it seems we have an issue with WP:VERIFY, as it requires sources directly supporting the material. You did not remove the original citation, but your addition of references close to the city names are weird. If I read the article for the first time I don't understand the logic of these references. Kenya Airways Flight 431

• The "unsourced addition" is taken directly from the report, with minimal rephrasing just to prevent copyright violations (we probably cannot simply copy paste).
• The same is true for my following edit. It is close to the sentence in the report but it is not the same.

In both cases sentences were simplified to make them easier to read rather than to follow strict legal language, probably required for the report. I have reverted both changes. Please watch more that you are doing.

List of Boeing 747 operators

Need your view on this article, an editor is removing content and replacing it with his own preferred version listing only commercial operators and that too just current ones, I dont know if he expects others to add separate list of non-commercial operators in there and a yet another separate one for former operators and another for former non-commercial operators.

Another thing that's bothersome is that he is doing away with the country-wise list format, this makes it difficult to know which country an operator belongs to, especially multiple airlines with obscure names from a single country and those with no articles in wiki that appear red, who wants to click on every airline to know which country it belongs to when they can be listed country-wise, more so having to google airlines with no aritcle in wiki, look at the list for US alone so many airlines that operated 747s with a few still using them, I find it as a viewer much better to see them all listed as under United States rather than spread out alphabetically in a single list comprised of operators from all over the world, havnig to click on each to find out how many operators were there in the US is tedious and annoying when it can be simplified.

That said the editors table does look sharper and cohesive with the table of first and last deliveries below it, maybe a country-wise table can be made using that look, alot of effort has gone into finding all former operators of 747s and doing away with that as well as the non-commercial operators is unfair on those who put in time and effort to compile the list, a more reliable reference source airfleets.net can be used to verify most current and former operators as well.139.190.165.199 (talk) 07:53, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

Reversion of my edits to Turkish Airlines

Hi Jetstreamer, I noticed you recently reverted my edits to the article on Turkish Airlines, stating that the targeting of a Turkish Airlines aircraft by Al-Shabaab is not notable because "cancellations occur all the time". I would disagree, it does seem notable to me as the group stated that they targeted Turkish Airlines because they are the flag carrier of a NATO state and to target intelligence officals and NATO soldiers. Brussels Airlines

ET 757 Retirement

Since you frequently edit the Ethiopian Airlines page, I thought I'd get your opinion...

I'm not sure if airlineroute.net is a reliable source, but it seems like ET is planning to end Boeing 757 passenger service in May (See Link 2). But an earlier source stated it would end this month (See Link 1). I'll let you make the final decision on the changes that should be made to the page.

Vietnam Airlines

Hi, I noticed that you had reverted my change in Vietnam Airlines due to Added sources do not say how many aircraft of each type are in fleet, although my source, from Vietnam Airlines don't say how many air craft but the air craft configuration is more correct than source from ch-aviation. I doubt that source from ch-aviation is correct, too.

Hence, please keep my change which shows correctly the configuration of Vietnam Airlines's aircraft.

The last time, you had reverted my change due to Planespotters is not a reliable source and new orders are not firm yet according to sources given, however as far as I can observe, the fleet information from Plane Spotters matched with information provided by Vietnam Airlines information which can be observed through flightradar24. But I agree it's less reliable than other source since it works like a forum, however the reliability of ch-aviation is still in debate, see Talk:Alitalia/Archive 1#Fleet issue.
