You probably shouldn't go around fixing all instances of "is is" to "is", without reading the sentence carefully. For example, in this edit you changed the sentence from the grammatically correct "What that theme is is not too clearly spelled out" to the ungrammatical "What that theme is not too clearly spelled out". Granted that it's not the most felicitious way of writing it, but better bad style than bad syntax. I haven't looked at your other edits involving "is is"; just pointing out that blindly replacing the strings may be the wrong thing to do. Shreevatsa (talk) 05:43, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for taking the time to clean up after me, I realise that should never be necessary. I must have been particularly tired when making those edits, is all I can say, I do try to read the context of the correction before committing them. In my defence, I made a lot more than those 10 edits in that session which improves my 'error-ratio'. However, I apologise again and will take more care infuture especially when correcting 'is is'. Hi Davbowling, thanks for getting in touch, unfortunately not everything is watched and not all vandalism is caught but those of us who are that way inclined try our best! Your edits on one king down look fine to me. A good way to get started on Wikipedia is to edit (or create) articles that interest you! There are lots of policy but the best way to learn is to be bold it's mostly common sense and if you do something wrong, hopefully someone else will fix it and let you know so you can do better next time. Stub sorting

Hello Jamesmcmahon0. Thank you for tagging an article as a stub. I noticed that you used the {{stub}} template. In the future, it would be greatly appreciated if you could sort the article to a subcategory by using one of these templates instead. For example, you can use {{US-novelist-1960s-stub}} for an American novelist born in the 1960s. Of course, if you can't find a proper category, you can always use the {{stub}} tag and someone else will sort it for you, or you can propose a new stub template or category here. Thanks!

Related to the above: I see that you are replacing specific stub categories with the generic {{stub}} or {{bio-stub}} (like this), which is rarely helpful. Most of these stub categories contain at least one stub template, and where possible please use one of those instead of {{stub}}/{{bio-stub}} - like this. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:11, 13 April 2014 (UTC)

It might be a good idea just to leave the incorrectly-directly-added stub category, while also adding {{stub}} (if the bot can't find the template automatically from the category) – even, perhaps, with a comment to the stub-sorter on the lines of "please remove previously-added stub category when you have stub-sorted this". And also to keep track of the editors who've been adding these stub categories, so as to leave them a note telling them that they're going wrong, as at User talk:Robert4565#stub categories. Hi, @Redrose64: If you haven't yet, please see my current BOT request. The idea behind the bot was that by adding {{stub}}/{{bio-stub}} and removing the category, it gets rid of the erroneous category and brings it into the eyes of many more editors through Category:Stubs or Category:People stubs than might ever have seen it in Wikipedia:Database reports/Stubs included directly in stub categories.

@PamD: That is a good idea, I will edit the bot to add {{stub}}/{{bio-stub}} along with a comment asking the editor to remove the direct categories. I think this solves both problems of bringing them to more editors attention and also not getting rid of potentially useful information. Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 10:34, 14 April 2014 (UTC)

Hello. You reverted my edit on Jason Cruz due to it not appearing constructive, but you've made a mistake. I relinked his official website in the external links section because the link that appears on the Wikipedia page doesn't like to it anymore, instead linking to a false webpage. The link I changed it too (amerikanblackheart.com) is the real website (and is also up in the info box as well. After a bit of searching I figured out what you were trying to say. I assume you are referring to this where I reverted your edit. At the time, the addition of the nickname Benjamin Button to a footballer by an anonymous user seemed suspicious. Since googling it I see there are quite a few mentions of it. Cam ships

James, one privately owned Cam ship, not on the list, is Elder and Fyffes, cargo liner , the Ariguani. There is a famous shot of her in convoy, lmperial War Museum have the copyright of the image. My late father and his youngest brother were second engineers on the Araguni, post WW2. She was possibly the largest CAMS ship.I believe the pilots were "trained" at RAF Speke, now John Lennon airport. Elder and Fyffes ships sailed into Garston, which is close to Speke. @Wikipedian13579: - Non English references are fine to use, as long as you have verified the information.

To use a reference more than once is very common. You need to give the reference a name, see WP:NAMEDREFS. It's good practice to do this with most/all references so that you or another editor can easily use them again in the same article. Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 09:53, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

Charles Hamilton (rapper)

The Charles Hamilton Discography does not need to be put into another article, many fans have commented on the value of information they've gotten from it being on his main page. Splitting it off from the main page would make each separate entity far too barren. But if everyone would please leave the page alone and let me do all the changes to it and complete it and then discuss or debate conflicts that'd be great. I'm more than over qualified and informed to be working on the page. But it's a day to day process because my life can not obviously focus on Wikipedia all day everyday. So don't know how to answer this with any curses, but miracles happen so here it goes.

I don't CARE anymore. Spit the discog off of the main Charles Hamilton article, I told you why it's stupid. But if you wanna be stupid then I'm expanding his main article more so in the future anyways. It's not cluttered, it's accurate and complete? But whatever, never seen a long Wikipedia article before or something.

I know this is all public domain, but if that's the case WHO IN THE HELL put you idiots in charge of making these decisions is beyond me. :Ever since the page existed IT'S BEEN WRONG AND INNACURATE. Someone actually comes to fix it and make it right for all of the internet and I get crucified for it? Do you even know who he is and yet you're in charge of his page? I told you why I am the authoritative figure on all this information and how it's basically not available on the surface Web at all and that's why. You have to be a fan to know and appreciate any of what I'm fixing and you'd know it's right too, I promise you that buddy.

So you update and let me know whenever you split the articles in two and link them to each other so I can get back to work, thanks. Otherwise just going to put my own actual CORRECT information on the site I'm making for the man anyways. You want articles wrong, lacking information, inaccurate and even wrongly titled in this case too?!? Then fine be my guest and protect your golden covered mess. "Cleanup"

You should not edit other people's contributions to your talk page unless they are seriously disruptive. See WP:TPO: "The basic rule—with some specific exceptions outlined below—is that you should not edit or delete the comments of other editors without their permission."

"Cleaning up" other people's signatures is not appreciated: if you feel that they breach the guidelines in WP:SIG then it would be more useful to explain to the editors involved what you see as a problem. PamD 11:22, 17 May 2014 (UTC)

Hey, sorry to cause trouble, glad it will maybe achieve something though! I have a script called Auto-format that puts an icon in the edit bar which 'cleans up' a page. I (maybe wrongly) click this out of habit when editing a page, I noticed it changed your signature but when I checked the preview it appeared the same so I left the change in place. Probably not a good idea to run the script on any talk pages (article, user, or your own), because of the rules about editing other people's comments (and the fact that typos etc are permissible on these behind-the-scenes pages as long as the content can be understood): perhaps just add the section heading by hand another time. Suggested improvement

Hello James. On the MoohanBOT, can you modify it so it will include the " |listas= " parameter in the {{WikiProject Biography}} template ? Doing so would save a little manual typing when it comes time for humans to follow up on the template. Thanks. – S. Rich (talk) 17:23, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi thanks for letting me know, I checked a load of my bot's edits and it does as |listas= in some circumstances. My bot runs using AWB and the Kingbotk Plugin in the plugin spec it says;

listas= is calculated and added if no DEFAULTSORT key is present (manual mode only; there are too many variations in human naming for this to be done by bots)

End result is I'm not sure why it adds it in some situation and not others... I'm not going to change anything however as at the moment nothing is being broken! Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 09:31, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews

Hello Jamesmcmahon0. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

On talk pages such as Dionne Rakeem and E-Trax, there is no need to add both "class=stub" and "auto-yes" to the template. It is wasteful.--Launchballer 21:45, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi, both of those pages were tagged by my bot, it tags them because it they have biography type stub tags on the article, however the bot does not actually 'look' at the article so it is best practice to add the |auto=yes .Jamesmcmahon0 (talk) 09:27, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi James. Sorry if I'm mixing up issues here, but you tagged File:Arms_Melchizedek.png with a non-free, not used, deletion tag. It is non-free, but it is used on Dominion of Melchizedek (which needs a lot of work, but that's a different matter). As it's a logo, aren't we allowed to use it per WP:FU? Hi! When tagging files as orphaned, remember to follow the correct process:

• Chech that the file is unfree. File:Senator Joseph George Megler of Washington State, USA, 1901.jpg is marked as being in the public domain.
• Notify the uploader using the notification template mentioned in {{di-orphaned fair use}}.
• Check that the file is unused. Why is your bot adding "underlinked" to nine word articles?

If there are only nine words in an article, and three are already linked, why is your script saying to tag the article as "underlinked?" When I go to your bot's user page it has links to Task numbers, can you link to this task or tell me which one it is? I think your bot and another one I just saw were not thought out. @MicroPaLeo:. Hi, thanks for letting me know, my Bot was most likely performing Task 2 or Task 3, without the diff I wouldn't know for sure. However tagging the page as underlinked would have been added as part of general fixes, this means that the problem lies with Auto Wiki Browser not specifically my BOT. About your bot

Your bot MoohanBOT added a WikiProject Biography to the article Basque Uruguayan, presumably because of a category that article is in. According to WP:BIOG only articles about individuals are within the scope of the WikiProject. I'm not sure if the article is miss categorised or if the problem is with your bot, but I'd have a look at it if I were you. Thanks,  Liam987(talk) 00:02, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

The problem is that articles of this type, about an ancestry in a country, are normally in the category for people of that ethnicity. For example, Polish American is in Category:American people of Polish descent. I'm guessing your bot treats these articles as being biographies because they are in Category:People stubs.  Liam987(talk) 00:08, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

@Lugnuts: Apologies, I had not correctly set-up the bot so it was editing on pages that it should have skipped. This has resulted in a number of edits that, whilst causing no harm, made no visible difference to the page. These edits do (or did) not need to be reverted as they were only doing things like replacing a redirected template with its actual, or removing necessary parameters etc. I've made sure the settings are correct and my bot should not longer be making edits of this kind and only editing when it is actually adding something of value (which will mostly be the {{WikiProject Biography}} template).
