All newsletters have been delivered. I'll be working on a new script over the next month to hopefully resolve any current issues and also simplify the process so I can step from semi-automated to full automated. — JamesR (talk) 10:39, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Features for bot
Hey, I was wondering if it would be possible for your bot to also handle the moving of abuse reports from Open Alerts to Under Investigation to Contact when necessary? In simpler terms, would it be possible for your bot to automatically move the cases to the correct section? I've been cleaning up abuse reports, and I've found that some volunteers are being confused by all the moving required. Thanks. Netalarm15:26, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
It could be possible through the use of templates being substituted onto the reports, similar to what is being done now. — JamesR≈talk≈07:49, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Netalarm. I'll be working on the scripts sometime this week and will let you know before it goes live. — JamesR (talk) 01:27, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Hello, you don't know me; I picked you from the Administrators List. I've just moved the page 'Warren James' to 'Warren James Jewellers', to make way for a page I wanted to write about Warren James - the 19th century labour leader, but the results were not quite as expected.
The move has left a Redirect Page, which stops me from using the original 'Warren James' page. I've read the 'Wikipedia:Proposed deletionon' page and it says to add dated prod|concern = reason for proposed deletion|month = August|day = 24|year = 2009|time = 12:37|timestamp = 20090824123714 to the top of the page I want deleting, but I can't get into the original page now, as it redirects to the new page.
That would be nice. Actually, that's even better than I had planned! Is there anything I need to do to make this work? Thanks! Netalarmtalk17:08, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
Is the bot currently turned on? We've processed a lot of abuse cases and they don't seem to be getting moved by the bot. bsmithme 20:59, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
The bot is currently still in development, therefore manual archiving will be required until it is activated. — JamesR (talk) @ 03:08, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
Hey JamesR that's great. Just a note, Netalarm and I have been overhauling the Abuse Reports project and have made many changes. I will be dropping you some details on it so that we can get the bot working with the changes. Still have some things to do, but I'll let you know very soon. bsmithme 06:27, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
Hey JamesR, I've got some things relating to Abuse Reports changes to report to you.
All case statuses are now handled by Template:ARStatus, and two new statuses have been added: "Stale" and "On Hold" with corresponding categories.
All CLOSED (formerly "Actioned") cases we want listed on Wikipedia:Abuse_reports/Closed and periodically cases listed should be moved to Closed/Archive.
We probably should have a category for "Archived" cases so they can be viewed in whole.
All REJECTED cases we want listed on Wikipedia:Abuse_reports/Rejected and periodically cases listed there should be moved to Rejected/Archive.
We still plan to use Template:ARA in the case log as an indication of the case's disposition which will add the case to a category based on that disposition so that they .
All of the existing lists of reports in Rejected or Closed have already been moved to an archive, so developing a criteria for the bot to use to move them shouldn't be a problem on the old cases.
There is also a HUGE amount of housecleaning that needs to be done. If you look at User:Netalarm/Sandbox there are hundreds of reports which are uncategorized because they are were not rejected or closed. Is there any way we can unleash the bot to add them to the appropriate category? Here are some rough guidelines:
If the report is uncategorized, AND
If the report older than six months (no page edit in six months) it should be rejected (with ARA|r) and archived, ALSO
If the report is rejected it should be archived (this is a lot less important though).
Hi bsmithme. Thank you for your help with this improvement. I have been completely tied up with work and further education at this stage, so I will be unable to look into this until Saturday at the earliest. I ask for your patience, and encourage you to request for bot approval of a bot account in the meantime. — JamesR (talk) @ 09:00, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
I did put in a bot request (to use at least on a temporary basis). I could feasibly set it up to do the work we need, though (not preferable however because I don't have THAT much experience running bots). I was wondering if you could tell me, what software EBot uses? Thanks again for all your efforts. bsmithme 07:07, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
