Concerning editing and reaching consensus

November 2020 Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions at Pastina. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page. If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to lose their editing privileges on that page. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to result in loss of your editing privileges. Thank you. Sure, that's great, but, is anybody of authority on Wikipedia actually concerned with presenting the truth? Please note, the editor with whom I am disagreeing made his own undocumented, non-cited edit to the article Pastina when he was unregistered, around eight years ago, and no one blinked an eye. His assertion was as incorrect then as it is now, but, it remained because no one challenged it. When I challenged it a few days ago, he was on it in an instant with a reversion. The problem is, the editor in question (for whom English is a second language) is clearly confusing the word "Pastina", a specific Italian pasta type of a certain size and shape, with the word "pasta", as he further conflates his confusion over the word Pastina with the Turkish word for noodle, "Sehriya". Did you notice that we appeared to reach a consensus on the talk page associated with Pastina? Concurrent with the article edits, we actually did converse about the subject and he eventually did appear to understand what I was attempting to explain and agreed that a change should be made to reflect that Pastina and Sehriya are two different foods, with different shapes, sizes and histories and that the two should not be linked together. Yet, without considering any of that, you simply reverted the page back to the erroneous information that he posted years ago, without reference or citation, simply because you were apparently only concerned with putting out the fire of an edit war. Please also note the citation that now appears on the page is one that he dug up when I made the challenge a few days ago. It fails because it does not establish his (former) contention that Pastina is the same thing as Sehriya, Couscous and Bulgur, which they are not. This is a real mess that needs fixed. Thank you for informing me. I have also talked to the editor in question on their Talk page, who has proposed alternative solutions rather than what I also suggested (diff). Likewise, I have re-evaluated the discussion in question and have now reached the same conclusion that you both have reached back on 21 November. Still, though, that does not provide an excuse to blank a redirect like you did here, as blanking is unhelpful for trying to reach a consensus (see WP:BLANK). Instead, consider alternative solutions like discussing at WP:RFD or the proposals that the user provided on their Talk page, as I have linked above. @JalenFolf: Hello, "anonymous editor" checking in. Was previously unaware of the existence of WP:RFD until it was brought it up here and on editor Ahmetlii's talk page. Thanks for the info. As to spiking the redirect, I mistakenly thought I was legitimately ending a malformed redirect that, by the authority of what I thought was a mutual agreement I had with Ahmetlii on the Pastina talk page, namely that Pastina and Sehriye are two completely different entities, would allow for the redirect to end, even though the redirect wasn't discussed specifically. Please note, my intent was certainly not part of any covert plan to get away with something wrong, wherein one might be "caught" in the act. As to the subject of the current redirect from Şehriye to Pastina, there really isn't any connection between the two other than they both are types of pasta and I would like to suggest, please, that the redirect be removed. As to the English language article of Pastina itself, I made some slight edits to separate the concepts of the Italian "Pastina" from the current inclusion of the Turkish "Şehriye", perhaps as an interim compromise stemming from our conversation on the Pastina talk page. The original words are still there but have been rearranged to locations where the two entities are kept more separate, as this situation evolves, with the hope that the references in the Pastina article to the Turkish "Şehriye" and the links to Turkish cuisine and the Turkish stub be removed. I don't understand how UEFA.com's official announcement unreliable. I'll add that again if you cannot explain how unreliable for it. You could make into citation for me if that is reliable but your action implied UEFA.com is unreliable. New Page Patrol December Newsletter

Hello JalenBarks,

Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

Date formats in 2020 Summer Olympics

Hi JalenFolf. Thank you for your edit to the 2020 Olympics article but it was entirely unnecessary. The Use dmy dates template includes an auto-format function so whenever an article has this template at the top, all the dates in the citations are automatically shown in the format that's specified by the template. Please see this version of the article before your edit – you'll see that all the citation dates were already fine. It doesn't really bother me but, well, you did waste your time and maybe you don't need to change any more articles unnecessarily. Cheers, Rodney Baggins (talk) 09:42, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

vandalism on Code Geass pages

That one guy keeps vandalizing the 3 Code Geass pages, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_Geass:_Lelouch_of_the_Re;surrection https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C.C._(Code_Geass) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lelouch_Lamperouge , despite your warning to stop it. He's done that before as well, even though the IP is different it's easy to see it's him because it's always the exact same thing, removing all references to the writers confirming that Lelouch did a marriage proposal to C.C. at the end of the 4th movie. So this is just a stupid, childish shipping war of him. Is there any way to ban him? IP, there are two different venues we can report this IP. Although there's WP:AIV for obvious cases of vandalism, there's also WP:ANI for non-obvious cases. Blueface

Hi there - I'm trying to understand why the page for BlueFace, the VoIP company which was acquired by Comcast, keeps getting merged into the main Comcast page. Blueface was, and remains, an Irish communications provider which still operates in Ireland and globally, under the Blueface brand name. While Comcast is the ultimate owner of the company, it oeprates indepenedently. It is similar to NBC, SKY and a bunch of other 100% Comcast-owned companies which continue to operate under their own brands, and have their own wiki pages. Confused

Ignoring that this is a creation by a prolific xwiki vandalspammer sock, did you actually look at the sources for Amirhossein Mahmoudi? This isn't the same person or if it is, it's clearly not accurate given it contradicts the article. It says he played for Persepolis F.C. 13/14 season, which would make him 15 and while that's possible, the article clearly states he played the 2019 season. This says he currently plays for Atrak Bojnourd F.C. while the article says he plays for Aluminium Arak F.C.. This is not the same person in the article, nor is it the same person in this source, it's about this guy. CUPIDICAE💕 19:56, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Hello - I created a short stub for the human rights lawyer Alka Pradhan (linking to the "Guantanamo bay attorneys" page, the "Ammar al-Baluchi" page, the "U.S. v. Khalid Sheikh Mohammad" page), and also linking to a NYT article written about her, but it was removed. Could I please get guidance on how to create a new page for this lawyer (that does not redirect to a page about the Indian movie "Mahi Way")? Bluehandle21, Although not necessarily a guideline, one good essay I've seen regarding notability of a subject can be found at WP:THREE, which specifically talks about finding your three best sources to establish notability. It also links a few important guidelines related to it, and should help you improve your second attempt, which I just noticed you reverted my redirect attempt. At the moment, I see you have two sources already; even if you can find a third one, some other users may not be so keen on keeping an article about the lawyer. Good luck! Question

You reverted that edit to "enforce an AfD result"... from 7 years ago? Surely you're aware that consensus can change? (And did you look at that AfD? It was close, could've gone either way, and that result was after it was gutted by the nominator. Also, 2nd nom btw, the first was 'keep'). Anyway, just saying that instead of reverting, perhaps you should've taken it to AfD again, to get a fresher result. imho - wolf 00:55, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

PLEASE HELP!

I am an employee of the Communications Department for the Center for Court Innovation. We have edited, and reedited both the Center for Court Innovation's page as well as the Red Hook Community Justice Center page. We have taken out the copyrighted material (even though we produce it, and allow reproduction). I am NOT trying to disrupt service, but we have not been given clear guidance on what to remove. We have given our best guess and removed anything we thought could be problematic, but keep receiving errors/warnings. PLEASE HELP by letting us know what specifically is causing these issues. I have several things to say in response to this:

• While you have attempted to remove copyrighted content on both pages, you are not supposed to remove copyright violation templates in the process. Please let a Wikipedia administrator review these.
• Wikipedia is not a place to promote or soapbox your company.
• Wikipedia relies on sources to establish notability. Your failure to provide such sources on Red Hook Community Justice Center is why your edits (under multiple IPs, by the way) are being reverted.
• There is still a copyright violation on your attempt at Red Hook (see here).
• The content at Center for Court Innovation is still closely paraphrased despite attempts to rewrite copyvios.
• As you have declared a connection to CCI, please review WP:COI.

(talk page watcher) - hi IP user. I think you may have a fundamental misunderstanding of what Wikipedia is, but it's very common. We summarise what reliable sources say about a subject. If it isn't in sources, we shouldn't be including this. The idea of using inside information to update Wikipedia is completely against the ideals here. I can take a look at the article for copyright, but as an employee of the organisation you need to fully disclose on your IP user page that you have a COI with the subject.

You also use the word "we" a lot. Wikipedia accounts (and IP addresses) are designed to be used by a single person. If you are making edits based on a committee or on behalf of two or more people, this isn't suitable.

Wikipedia takes copyright seriously, so even if you own the copyright for something, we do not. We need to summarise but not copy other works. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski ^(talk • contribs) 21:41, 15 April 2021 (UTC)

Hong Kong Adventist Academy

Hong Kong Adventist Academy should not be redirected to Hong Kong Adventist College. They are not managed under one company. The academy leases the space from the college. There are online sources to prove this. Rudi444 (talk) 02:16, 24 April 2021 (UTC)

You may visit www.HKAA.edu.hk to find all pertinent information to prove they are operated separately. If need be I’m happy to add more citations, pictures, text to provide users more info. On the matter of Odisha FC and Delhi dynamos fc

Hello. I am writing this on the matter that it is officially said in the Indian super league website and the club as well that the former club Delhi dynamos was a club based on delhi. the club relocated and rebranded from odisha to be known as odisha fc but the current club odisha fc don't hold previous records of delhi dynamos fc. Owners have said odisha fc is the new club and old delhi dynamos is disbanded. So it will be better if separate pages with both the clubs' records are formed in 2 separate page.for current records it is odisha fc. and for previous records in ghe delhi dynamos fc page as the club played by the name of delhi not odisha, cleared by both clubs and league officials. IP, as I have said in my revert, please see WP:ATD-R. The redirect to ABA Games seems appropriate at this time, as there's a mention with a source describing it there. Jalen, if you wanted to improve Wikipedia then restoring a redirect that has hidden useful information for more than 10 years was not the best way to go about it. Redirect is and was not appropriate, merger to ABA Games would've been a better idea (Which I planto do after allowing a reasonable amount of time for potential contributors to appear). The current reference to BulletML in ABA Games calls it "an open-source program which can replicate bullet patterns from other shoot 'em up games". According to the BulletML page it is an XML-based language. This information would've improved the ABA Games page if you'd merged it rather than allowed it to be hidden via redirect. --86.155.25.31 (talk) 20:37, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

Nothing is stopping you from adding/merging sourced content. The redirect looks to have been entirely appropriate, and for that matter, was restoring the long established status quo. Reverting a decades old redirect *without adding any new sourcing or improvements* is inappropriate. The topic doesn't meet WP:GNG, and after we go through the motions of AFD, it'll end up a redirect anyway. -- ferret (talk) 21:44, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

While I can say criteria 2 of WP:MUSICBIO isn't the only notability requirement, I'm also not inclined to send to AfD, but will also not be opposed to it going there again. Reason Engjell Berisha to be approved to Wikipedia!

Engjell Berisha is originally a painter from Kosovo where also Engjell Berisha for who we are writing for is and they have the same name.

In that case you did propose to write for Engjell Berisha on his artistic and public name as it is "Engjiz"

Engjell Berisha is a public face & international musical producer now based in Dubai. He were a fashion model on his youth which for that one a lot of international news wrote about him "You can find everything on google and youtube as well"

He is also very popular on the music industry especially the Albanian one where he made many popular mixes over the past of 4 years!

I don't think that Engjell should be removed from any soucrse especially here wikipedia since the article is nothing promoting nor advertising as you mentioned! Is the biography of Engjell where he is from and what he do!

I think people deserve to know about him!

Speedy deletion of my latest article

Hello.

I just sadly realized that my article draft about my band Neonlight has been deleted. I promise, that I did not want to advertiseor promote Neonlight in any way. I thought after mor that ten years in the music scene a band is worth to be found on wikipedia. That is how I use it quite often: I hear a cool song and want more info about a band or artist. I look it up on Wikipedia.

I mean, it was just a draft, and there was no chance to discuss how I can improve my writing - so that it fits to the rules of wikipedia. I want to understand how to write this without beeing too subjective. What are the crucial parts?

Please give me a chance and retrieve this article to make it better this time.

(One example for a band similar to us is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noisia)
