User talk:JIP/Archive 15RE: Reference Desk: swear
Just a quick note to say that has to be the worst pun I've ever seen on the reference desk, well done! We have naming conventions in place, both in ice hockey and here Wikipedia:Naming conventions (standard letters with diacritics). We are currently working out guidelines. Join the conversation there, but please don't vandalise pages to your own POV. If you don't like it, talk about it. that is what talk pages are for. Masterhatch 16:37, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
Transformers comicsWell, I moved it because that's what it is - it's a list of the different Transformers comics published through the years. Did it in the name of creating a parallel with List of Transformers TV series. By all means, move it back if you feel it would be better suited under that title, but I don't think there's much difference. :) - Chris McFeely 13:31, 12 July 2006 (UTC) Star Trek CanonSorry your question went ignored on the S.C.E. page, but here's my opinion. I looked around Wikipedia's Star Trek policy. Most of it concerns non-canonical information on cananical characters. I see no reason why not to include a page on David Gold and Domenica Corsi, after all they are as real as, Harry Potter for example. The main issue with Star Trek canon is including information from books on Jean-Luc Picard, not making pages on David Gold. BLong 3 Aug 2006 1:17 (EDT). Datamonitor AfDHi JIP, I see you closed the Datamonitor AfD discussion. Could you take another quick look at it? I'm not convinced that there was a consensus to delete. Even by a simple vote count I see 3 deletes and 2 keep, which looks like "no consensus" to me. Two of the delete opinions came before the article was rewritten and sourced. Of course I'm an interested party, so take that into account too! Best, Gwernol 12:43, 4 August 2006 (UTC) Marko Antila - Finnish directorHi, I was wondering if you could do something for the locked page of finnish director Marko Antila. I've written a new article after discussing with Brookie about the article. New version is here. I hope that you could be the friendly admin who would help me to make this article visible again.
Thanks for your help! Juhmi Policy proposal for Finnish proper namesHi! I've created a policy proposal for Finnish proper names at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Finnish), and I'd like to hear your comments on it. Elrith 14:43, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! I thought about that, but I think it's more confusing to have two different alphabetization guidelines. To take a hockey examples (shudder), that would mean you'd have to alphabetize players differently in different categories or lists, because a Finnish NHL player would be listed in categories of Finnish people as well as lists of NHL players. I think it would get confusing. Elrith 15:14, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
My more general objection is that languages alphabetize thing differently, and English alphabetizes ä with a and ö with o. Similarly, Finnish still alphabetizes w with v, at least in the public libraries, and since this is the English-language Wikipedia, I think we should stick to English-language alphabetization. Elrith 15:20, 8 August 2006 (UTC) Recreated Content (Speedy)Hi JIP, you closed this [1] AfD debate and I note the content has subsequently been recreated (at The Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler) with no additional information that could justify overturning the initial consensus. Could you review as a speedy candidate? Eusebeus 15:56, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
HiI am writing to inform you, and many others, that an AfD in which you voted delete, List of automobiles that were commercial failures, was already unsucessfully nominated a short time ago, but under a different title. This was not noted in the nomination. Please read the opposing arguments here, and reconsider your vote, because it is important that the opinions of previous voters be considered. Thanks! I saw that you created a new video game related article- consider joining the Computer and Video Games WikiProject! I've added your article to the list of new articles, and attributed it to you. --PresN 17:23, 16 August 2006 (UTC) ICB2 on deletion reviewAn editor has asked for a deletion review of ICB2. Since you closed the deletion discussion for (or speedy-deleted) this article, your reasons on how or why you did so will be greatly appreciated in the above review. Uspenski CathedralHi, I saw that you added a category tag to the Uspenski Cathedral page and that you are a native Finnish speaker. When writing the page, I came across two equally popular ways of spelling the cathedral (Uspenski and Uspensky). Google favored the "i" and hence the article name. However, I just wanted to know if you have any thoughts on how it should be spelled. I'm always wary when I make a foray into foreign languages here! InvictaHOG 10:50, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Gods dab fixHey, thanks for fixing that dab! I'm not sure why I directed it to the wrong place, it's clearly a computer game reference. Dreadlocke ☥ 14:34, 21 August 2006 (UTC) -_-...!!!... My God! I'm confused...I just left a note on another administrator's talk page [3], asking for clarification why they recorded the result no consensus for a recent nomination for deletion, when more than 50% of the votes were cast to keep the article. When you closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hisham Sliti you recorded the result as no consensus even though 3 people voted to keep and only 1 person voted to delete. Would you please take a look at the note I left the other administrator? I am hoping one of you can explain what I should do if there was a mistake in recording the results of these two nominations, or help me figure out what I am missing about how nomination for deletion results are scored. LebedevI was looking through the Mikhail Lebedev page and it seems to be vanity and non-notable to me. First of all, there is hardly any information about him on Google. Then, none of the publications seem to be news-worthy and notable. Finally, the scientist does not have many 1st author publications and seems to be non-important in his field. If you agree with me, can you please help me nominate Mikhail Lebedev for deletion? --GoOdCoNtEnT 08:46, 3 September 2006 (UTC) öhYes, quite :D --Alf melmac 20:23, 3 September 2006 (UTC)
Ifti Elahi articlePlease do not delete this article. it is not a personal essay - it is just in an incomplete stage. if you will follow the quotation marks you will observe that the opinions of both Ifti Elahi AND Kader Hashemite are expressed through the interviews. I can fully understand that this article needs cleaning up and I will endeavour to do so within the next few days but please rescue it from deletion. Thank you. Abdel Frasheri on fi:Hi JIP! I see that you can speak Finnish, and I wonder if you could help out by nominating the Finnish fi:Abdel Frasheri article for deletion? The corresponding article was deleted here on the English Wikipedia as unverifiable (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Abdel Frasheri), but needs to be removed from a number of other Wikipedias as well. The non-Finnish speaking, Sjakkalle (Check!) 08:33, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
I have noticed when you closed the above AfD, you did not remove the category template, "REMOVE THIS TEMPLATE WHEN CLOSING THIS AfD". By deleting this when closing it pulls the discussion out of the category. I have deleted it from this discussion, but if you could review any other closures you have done recently and remove the tag from them it would be greatly appreicated. This is a fairly recent change. The official policy is at WP:AFDC. I have been going through the listing in each of the categories CAT:AFD and removing the tag from pages that are closed and adding the approriate category code for those in the uncatagorised group. Thanks.--Gay Cdn (talk) (email) (Contr.) 19:40, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Finnish to English translationsIf you are (or you know anyone who is) interested in translating articles from Finnish to English, it would be a good idea as there's starting to be quite a backlog (my fault) at Wikipedia:Translation_into_English#Finnish-to-English. BTW, is there a corresponding page in the Finnish wikipedia? For some reason I haven't been able to find it, if there is. Thanks! -Yupik 11:07, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
please reconsider your vote against my-boi i think it is very important since it made national attention in the media, read the article on james barnett the 18-yo who was expelled from his conservative high school for creating the website. the website will soon be joined with xy.com an even more noteworthy website with millions of registered users somthing that makes it very notable, i think this is premature. why did you vote for delete? -Yupik 07:18, 20 September 2006 (UTC) In regards to your comment about the above page, it is great that the page was created because it otherwise linked to an album, but the reason I placed the prod on the article is that it did not meet the requirements of WP:CORP, namely 1. subject of multiple non-trivial published works; 2. listed on ranking indices of important companies; and 3. share price is used to calculate stock market indices.--Gay Cdn (talk) (email) (Contr.) 19:07, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
