My poor editing of Wikipedia: Zorba the Greek: Critical Reviews

Please remove my poor editing (personal opinions on film review,therefore without citations, except referring to the film itself) - which now seems to bring whole site into disrepute. (BIG RED COMMENTS ABOUT LACK OF CITATIONS - BUT HOW CAN I CITE MYSELF? THAT MEANS MY WRITING WAS INAPPROPRIATE TO THAT SITE. MY APOLOGIES.) Tried to get hold of an editor, and also tried discussing it on a Wikipedia-run site ("Wikichat"?), but firstly did not seem to be able to post my article, and secondly there was some sort of automated technical response code using "ref" which is above ny computer-word-processing skills. I may be a brilliant Mathematician but am certainly a COMPLETE COMPUTER DUMMY. Please clear up the mess I seem to have made, unless Wikipedia editors will do so automatically over time, if they are not already busy doing so, which I realise will take time, considering the almost incomprehensively-large size that there must be to Wikipedia. I have taken it to talk, on feral, you need to stop and start being constructive. The page is bias I have supplied evidence to this effect with the name feral,should be changed to Brumby it is a Brumby page not, you must not revert the page and repeated vandetlisum to the eddits and if this persists you could be blocked. Please Don't Revert The Weird Looking References

DemocraticLuntz — The pages that were reverted were found in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting. If you had bothered to use Show Preview and checked your edits, you would have seen that for yourself. Using a script is not an excuse to leave pages with incorrect ref formatting. Hong Kong protests reference list

Hi, as far as I am aware you can't demand that the reference list be alphabetical. I did see your hidden comment and re-ran the script to be alphabetical, if the name wasn't a random string, so I don't see why it was reverted. @RealFakeKim: - I didn't demand anything. I reverted on the basis of a long standing consensus. When you have over 700+ list-defined references, it's much easier for editors to find a list-defined reference when it is alphabetized and easily identified and distinguished from each other. This means that ref names like "Guardian 2019" are preferred to random strings which are harder to distinguish from one another. The script that you used, and I use as well, allows you to change the ref names to something more distinguishable than nonsensical random strings. Also see WP:CITEVAR - avoid making major changes when an article is already consistent and has consensus. It also wouldn't hurt if you took a look at WP:ACCESSIBILITY - Wikipedia pages should be easy to navigate and read for people with disabilities. I'd appreciate it if you would respect consensus and WP:CITEVAR and especially WP:ACCESSIBILITY. Thanks. Isaidnoway (talk) 22:55, 9 July 2020 (UTC)

the wiki page is "List of most-subscribed YouTube Music artists" so if blackpink aren't artists then why are they even included…? but to find a consensus i changed it to "female act", it would be ridiculous to limit blackpink just as the most subscribed group when they are the most suscribed female act, which is more relevant and a better achievement

Reference Organizer

Thanks for cleaning up the references at Underwater habitat. It's important to encourage other editors to quote the reference name, so giving them good examples to mimic is a step forward. Just a heads-up, though, both the reference toolbar and visual editor add the final space in named references like <ref name="Ceurstemont 2007" />, so removing it is going to be an unending task. How am I supposed to cite members of Members Only when there is little to no articles that are correctly written about them?

I cannot find any proper articles to cite members, and my only thing I can cite is the fact that they are on the albums. I've been trying to add the correct members, but they keep getting deleted because I have no proper sources. What am I to do? They are 100% confirmed members of the group, but they're so underground I cannot find any proper articles to cite.

• User:Cameronsmiley2345qwerty, please sign your name when you leave a message. Here is the problem: I don't know what "the fact that they are on the albums" means. What fact? Vol. 3 lists members; that is what you can cite, from the booklet/cover/Discogs entry. Billboard lists some participants for Vol. 4; that is what you can cite. @MarnetteD:, no need to apologize, it's reFill 2. I just now noticed that you left a comment there on the talk page, so at least you're aware of that bug and check for that deprecated parameter. Like you, I wish someone would patch that bug, it's been months now since that request for a fix on GitHub, and that gadget is widely used for bare URLs. Redirect article from ex nihilo to creatio ex nihilo

I'm sure that whoever originally created the article ex nihilo (out of nothing, naturally) meant that it should treat creatio ex nihilo as its subject, but the choice of ex nihilo as the article title has meant that the lead and first few paras have to deal with distinguishing between creatio ex nihilo and the ex nihilo nihil fit idea. It would be much easier if the title were simply creatio ex nihilio, which in fact it once was. I've canvassed all authors who have edited this in the last month, (i.e., October 2020) asking for views.Achar Sva (talk) 07:12, 31 October 2020 (UTC)

@Chowbok:, you are correct, consensus can change and this issue should be revisited as it's WP:UNDUE for a BLP. Category:Dam failures in Europe in Vajont dam

Please make sure that the Category is re-inserted after it is (hopefully) created following Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation/Redirects_and_categories#Category_request:_Category:Dam_failures_in_Europe. A totally unrelated user gave me the link to the requests page, which should have been included in the edit summary of you deleting the Category.

This is it for now, I am returning to my Wiki Break. I virtually created one article, improved three, two of them substantial, during a time of >~6h, including lectorate more like 12-18h. For that trouble, registered Wikipedia users couldn't even be bothered to create a category that already contains 10 pages or point me to the Creation Wizard.

Hi, forgive the intrusion. You added a clean up tag to List of aircraft engines in December, which I totally agreed with. I'm working very hard to straighten it out. What I would like to know please is how you counted the red links? Is it a tool or a script? I have X tools but am not seeing it there, perhaps I'm not looking hard enough? Cheers. @Nimbus227:, I manually counted the red links until I got to 1000, realized I wasn't even half-way through the article, and estimated over 2000 based on the remainder left, which was probably a low ball estimate. It can be done by interrogating the page source code which is working for me with Firefox. My counter maxed out at 1,000 red links in the list article so still a way to go, cheers.Nimbus (Cumulus nimbus floats by) 17:51, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

Rest assured I do actually use edit previews; I just wasn't aware that the parameter had been deprecated. Thanks for cleaning up after me at Atlanta too. I've checked through my ReFill-assisted edits and there shouldn't be any more that uses that parameter.

As you are aware, mulitple link automation tools exist including refill.toolforge.org

The creator of this tool User:Zhaofeng Li is semi-retired (has not edited since July 2019) and the last update to the tool was 2 years ago.[1]

While the tool serves an important function of transforming citations to include various citation paramaters, some of the paramaters are output in deprecated formats. Various bots continuously transform deprecated parameters to the current naming conventions. See Special:Contributions/Monkbot (such as via task 18 User:Monkbot/task 18: cosmetic cs1 template cleanup re |accessdate= and |deadURL= with the on page stats noting millions of instances).

To the extent that the markup output by Refill bothers you in some manner,[2] as the tool maker appears to be unavailable, you may wish to post at Talk:Portal:Toolforge and another editor may be able to modify the output markup. Pings to various editors who use Refill probably won't achieve your preferred outcome, while attempting to modify the tool's output of parameters might. @UW Dawgs: - You are responsible for all your edits that you make to the encyclopedia, including edits made with tools. reFill 2 clearly says, The templates created automatically by the tool need to be reviewed to ensure that they are accurate, as they are often not. Therefore, when you activate this tool, it is your responsibility to review the templates created automatically by the tool to ensure that they are accurate. It would appear by your reply that you know the tool adds deprecated parameters, so keeping that in mind, please make sure when you activate this tool, you check the results, and don't rely on other editors or bots to clean up after the edits that you make with this tool.    I reviewed the page on --List of guidelines for instructions on how to disagree with an edit-- and I only see that your seeking brevity or you think that a local name should be used in a Wikipedia article about a scientific subject.

In reviewing my statement I see that I failed to reference the Varicella page.

Upon further review there is a chicken pox page and a Varicella page which as a redundancy and a Shingles page with the zoster word referencing redirecting to the shingles page. The Varicella virus hides in the derma ganglia and comes out as shingles when immunosenescense set in on older adults and/or immunosuppressed patients. That's why they are combined together as VZV. They are the exact same virus.

I see that you reverted my accessdate=27 from access date=27 back to original. When looking on the current page I see a reference to-- |access-date=27 --seems that is the way they want it.

I still think that clarity would be served by modifying the statement about chicken pox to read as "common name chicken pox virus known as Varicella (VZV)"...

The 2 pages chicken pox and varicella need to be combined.

Also a page needs to be generated about the Taterapox virus the suspected precursory to small pox.

They have not mentioned that the Taterapox is a suspect ancient zoonotic virus to the VARV.

Like most of Wikipedia this area needs work.

Hi there. I recently linked to the Haiti page from Deforestation of Haiti. You reverted with the comment "unnecessary". I couldn't find a link on that page to the main country page. I checked that a quite a few of the "Deforestation in X" pages have similar links, so I guess my need and instinct was shared. I read through the help page and guidelines on Linking and couldn't find something there that would indicate this was either overlinking or against some explicitly stated reason. A source that might be useful?

Thanks again for your work on all the LGBTQ pages. I came across a guide which might be useful, in pages 261-310 of Stephen Tropiano's "The prime time closet : a history of gays and lesbians on TV", which lists gay, lesbian, bi, and trans characters in TV, which might be good for getting some RS's for some shows (well, the ones done before 2002). All you need is an account at Internet Archive and you can reserve it for 14 days, more than enough time to add in citations. Here's the citation I used for it:

• Tropiano, Stephen (2002). "Appendix: Gay /Lesbian / Bisexual / Transgender TV Episode Guide". The prime time closet : a history of gays and lesbians on TV. New York: Applause Theatre & Cinema Books. ISBN 9781557835574. Retrieved September 25, 2021.

Hi wondering if it would be okay with you to delete Talk:Sound of Freedom (film)#Suggesting wording update and expansion, and putting paragraphs in chronological order? It mostly consists of two socks arguing back and forth with some contributions from you at the end. I've collapsed it but because it is a subthread of the RfC it would be confusing if I were to archiving it to the actual archives. Likewise the subthread Talk:Sound of Freedom (film)#Promotional Appearances just above that was started by a sock and you are the only editor to reply, I've collapsed it but I'd also prefer to just delete it. I feel deleting these would keep the thread cleaner and is justified per WP:DENY but I don't want to delete your comments if you feel they are still useful even without the sock comments being considered. Jack's letter

Please don't read this as me trying to change your mind. I'm not, you've made your !vote and I respect it. But in the letter, the address does not include the "formal" name that's being suggested, it's the Candanian Convalescent Hospital, Woodcote Park, Epson. Note they spelt Epsom wrong! Then they mentioned that "Our camp is just outside London" - so there is a primary source of a soldier in the hospital referring to it as a camp - a term which is so vehemently opposed in the talk page for some reason. @Polyamorph: - the point I was making with the letter is that he knows it is a hospital, regardless of how he refers to it later on in the letter. And I also think the article does a great job in making it clear to our readers that it was a Hospital that used to be a temporary military base at Woodcote Park. Sure, broken refs happen all the time. My comment had nothing to do with the broken ref though. I should have been more precise in my edit summary, and I apologize for that. So, to clarify my comment, in my opinion, all articles, especially featured content, should be accessible to readers and editors who use screenreaders. List of Mystery Dungeon video games is subpar when it comes to accessibility. For example, each entry in the tables has a "Notes" section with a bulleted list of information pertaining to that particular game. But there is no punctuation like a period or semicolon at the end of the sentences to indicate a paragraph break, so screenreaders just read all that important information as if it is just a single sentence, and when you listen to it, the run-on with the sentences can be incomprehensible, and hard to figure out what the hell any of it means. You can see here in the examples given, it is formatted correctly for multiple paragraphs within bulleted list items, with periods at the end of the sentences. But, like I have frequently stated in previous discussions elsewhere, accessibility is just not that important to Wikipedia.

Another example of non-accessible content can be seen here in your comment to me. Screen readers sometimes do not interpret abbreviations properly. For instance, you use the abbreviations FL and FLC. My screenreader does not know what FL or FLC stands for. So in the future, please ensure that abbreviations are not the only method used to communicate important information. Words as the primary means of communication should always be given greater precedence over abbreviations. In closing, yes, I wish I had been more precise in my edit summary, but I stand behind it one-hundred-percent, because it is unclear, and puzzling, to me, how featured content (or any content for that matter), can be inaccessible to so many of our readers with disabilities. Accessibility is something that I care about, actually; I'm the main reason that the Featured list process enforces the use of captions and row and column scopes for all tables, as well as trying to enforce the rest of the accessibility guidelines, so I am surprised to learn that bulleted lists without periods are not easily understandable. I have never seen that in guidelines before, and there's nothing explicitly about that at the accessibility guideline you linked. In fact, the very next section uses a bulleted list without periods as an example, though with two-word items rather than sentence fragments like the Mystery Dungeon list. I just listened to the table at that list using Mac Voiceover, and it says "bullet" at the start of each line as a separator. I take it that your software does not do this for bulleted lists?
