Sichuan earthquake question

Dear, I would like to know why in your edit of the pressure on the parent of dead children, you cancel the information about a document signed, and that some parents have been threaten when they refuse to sign. these two information seems for me quite important. the idea is simple: Chinese official ask parents of school victims to sign a document in exchange of money in which say say they will stay quiet and not protest, some parent refused to sign and they were threaten by the Officials. I do not think there is a problem of WP:N as in the New York time (famous news paper) they even put a copy of the letter that parent are force to sign [1] and they also provide the english translation [2]. and I really think it is not an important fact that some parents are threat by some official to sign... it is a basic right than to sign agreement with your own will and not threaten... otherwise this agreement could be even cancel in a state rule by law. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Killy-the-frog (talk • contribs) 06:41, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

You propose "It also reported cases in which officials bribed parents to keep quiet about the corruption, though some refused and continued protesting.". They do not bribe them to keep quite about the corruption, but to not protest. and there is not the "threat" information.

usually when their is bribery we do not sign an agreement writing on it how much we get as a bribery and what we will do in exchange... furthermore bribery is offering money in order to gain an illicit advantage, in that the other person break the law... I do not think that not holding a protest is breaking the law... Thus I am not so found of using "bribery". I prefer to write clearly that an agreement is signed, money is given, and people threaten Froggy helps ;-) (talk) 04:13, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

If you are not convinced it is important, I can tell you that this school story has cause lot of talk in China, Chinese people and media were really focus on that until the gov ask the media not to talk about it. Now, I think we should write what is the development of the story. the fact that people have been threatened by official and force not to protest is quite an information that many Chinese will be surprise and interested to learn. English Wikipedia is not made for American, but for the world (and I think this subject interest more Chinese than westerners). I hardly believe there is no notability problems as being threatened by your own government who build this crappy school is still something. The problem with your proposal: "Parents who protested were threatened by officials; while others were given money as an attempt to keep calm" is that you say that the one protesting have been threatened... but the article say the parents who refuse to sign the agreement have been threatened... which is different.

I am a bit tired of discussing about that. Why not put my version, and if other people think it need to be change, then we will see. if other people find it ok. then we keep it. Froggy helps ;-) (talk) 12:22, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Hey, sorry I haven't replied until now: I've been on holiday until a few days ago, and although there was Wi-Fi, I tried to have a minibreak from editing Wikipedia while there (although I didn't completely succeed with that sentiment!)

Reply to your previous points:

1. Hehehe well it looks like you got your wish! Well done. Oh and congrats on getting the Smash Bros article to Featured topic status, if there ever was a cert for that process, that was it.
2. Ok cool, no deadline then with that. Fair enough.
3. I'll let you know which article once I've had a bash at it. It's gonna take a lot of hard work on my part, but it's doable, it's just about finding the time, you know?
4. That's pretty good going.

Okay I thought I'd also ask this since you're a GA/FA whizz: I came across this article just recently, and I liked the look of it, but was surprised to find out it wasn't even a good article, but I think with maybe a little prodding it could be got up to FA status. I made a comment about this on the talk page but haven't had a reply yet, but anyway: any chance you could swing by that article and tell me if you think it needs a lot of work doing to reach GA or FA standard? Don't worry if you're too busy. Personally, I haven't edited the article myself or anything, so it's not something I've been working on like you have with the SSB articles, just it looked good, and a second opinion would be nice to see if my radar is on the right track, and then I get get busy improving it if I can. Western Band Association

Hi, sorry to impugn copyviosity on you... the two things that I flagged (missing first name, no explanation of what a WSMBC is) made it look like this might have once been part of a larger piece of prose. Glad to be wrong!

I'd flagged WSMBC because there is no explanation as to what that stands for. I could go out on a limb and guess "Western States Marching Band Competition," but since I don't know this for certain, I thought it was better to ask. That's still missing from the article... .

By the way, do you happen to know which Lincoln High School the article refers to? There are several California Lincoln HS' in WP, but I'm not sure which one this would be, and there appears to no longer be a WBA member by that name.

Fair-use bot malfunction?

Hi, I notice that you reverted an edit on Los Altos, California by FairuseBot removing the LASD logo for inadequate fair-use rationale. This wasn't a malfunction: the image page had been tagged a week previously as a possible fair-use violation, and I tend to agree. The identification of LASD in this article doesn't add much to this article, since the logo really belongs to LASD (where it remains). Do you agree? --Flashcube (talk) 19:59, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Main List

A reformat seems a little extreme. The article has undergone few changes since its FL nom. I definitely think its ready for another FLC, but I did not nominate because I really don't like the FLC process. I'll participate, but I won't willingly put myself through that hell. prop 8 lawsuits

I got impatient, because I'd like to start working on the article specific to the lawsuits to overturn proposition 8, so I created a place for the article and copied some content to it from the Prop 8 piece, with the working title "Lawsuits to Overturn Proposition 8". I am more than happy to rename it if you'd like, but it was definitely time to start fleshing out that article, as well as cutting down how much of that content persists in the main article. Prop 8 reference on Rick Warren article

Hi Haha169. In the discussion on the Rick Warren article, editors have been having a hard time reaching consensus on how to refer to Prop 8. Some prefer to include the point that it restricts marriage to opposite-sex couples AND the point that it eliminates the right to marry for same-sex couples; others prefer to include thhe first point but exclude the second. To facilitate consensus I wrote a framework of seven points on which the editors appear to agree, and three points on which the editors appear to disagree. Today I checked the Prop 8 article to see how editors handled the matter there, and I see that the lead includes both points. As one of the editors who worked on that article, you may be able to help us figure out whether or not to include both points. Would you please contribute to that discussion? Thanks! The new NPOV sentence isn't unnecessary because a few major news sources noted that the proceedings leaned a certain way, which is pretty interesting. I think it's a valid and informative inclusion. If you are not already aware, the Super Smash Bros. task force (formerly WikiForce Super Smash Bros.) has very recently been merged into the Nintendo task force (formerly WikiProject Nintendo). As a result, the memberlist of the old task force has been merged into the Nintendo task force's memberlist. In order to gauge who is still active and willing to participate actively in the Nintendo task force, I have placed all those members under the inactive participants list, which is located below the active participants list at WP:NIN.

If you wish to continue participation as a member of the Nintendo task force, then go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Nintendo/left panel, remove your entry from the inactive list, and place your entry at the bottom of the active list. Uniform row width makes the table easiest to read and the most aesthetically pleasing. California Proposition 8 (2008)

Hi there, you have been one of a number of regular editors at the above article. I was its Good Article reviewer a few months back. In response to a recent proposal to split the article, I suggested it be edited down to a more manageable size and better readability rather than focussing on the split. I suggested the article was not particularly readable in its current form, and suffered from recentism amongst other things. Hi, it looks like you created a graphic for List_of_indices_of_freedom, using this as the source-file: Freedom House. A small country, Belize, was given the wrong color (the source says it's in the safest category, green, but it's orange on the map), and I'm not sure how to change it. I just know that the previously listed cite was incorrect because the quote even in the article; but did not have much time to go combing for an appropriate citation. It's not in the PvS hearing transcripts, I just searched the 12 days of them. I'm not sure the quote from the coplantiff is either, though. My guess is that page I gave you is testimonials and the one that that quote came from (which has a name associated with it) was provided to PM as an endorsement for their (fundraising? vote-getting?) In any case, it could easily predate PvS, not sure how I'd tell. I have no problem with the idea of removing it if it's not really pertinent to the trail. --Joe Decker (talk)

Glad I slept on it, I went and looked around, and ended up leaving it and adding a ref. Protect Marriage's page on the case provides the start of this quotation in a box on the right of the page, that page links to the testimonals page I mentioned earlier for the fuller context of that. Because Protect Marriage appears to be highlighting that quote as the sound byte on their page on PM, it seems like a fair (and sourced) thing to use as being representative of their POV on the issue. I hadn't noticed that the quote was featured on http://www.protectmarriage.com/trial , which is about PvS. With such a controversial issue, it's helpful to be able to make use of a small quotation that was given to readers by PM as a small quotation, it keeps any POVness out of the selection of a particular quote. Anyway, that's my reasoning, but if you're not happy with it, let's talk, you've been working these articles for a long time, and I greatly respect your thoughts and work. It's certainly a decent quote, although I would love to have a more representative one of the case itself and not the party's ideological view. For example, I think the plaintiff's quote is really great because it represents their interest to enter the case and a specific example as to what pushed them to file suit. But the PM quote is very abstract and not entirely personal.
