Hi, do you own a copy of EastEnders: 20 Years in Albert Square? If so, can you confirm what it says about how Walford was named? In EastEnders#Setting it says "The name Walford is both a street in Dalston where Tony Holland lived and a blend of Walthamstow and Stratford—the areas of London where the creators were born." which is attributed to two references, one being the book and the other being the old EE website that says it's a blend of Walthamstow and the suffix 'ford', which is found throughout Essex. I copied this to the Walford article without reading the reference, and it has now been changed to read "The name Walford is both a street in Dalston where one of the series' creators, Tony Holland, lived and a blend of Walthamstow and the suffix 'ford' (found throughout East London and Essex, for example; Stratford and South Woodford)—the areas of London where the two creators, Holland and Julia Smith, were born and raised" which is highly confusing. So if you're able to clarify what the book says, that would be really really helpful. Thanks :-) AnemoneProjectors16:23, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
I found a bit that said the action was located to a fictional london borough of Walford (a cross between Holland's home turf of Walthamstow, and Stratford). Plus the article makes several references to Walthamstow, such as his aunt Ethel Thirkette living there; this is who Lou Beale is based on. The Dalston reference seems to be to do with Albert Square. Holland and Smith asked the set designer to scout areas in Hackney for inspiration and Fassett Square, just off Dalston Lane, was the nearest they found to a best location, but it had a huge hosiptal dominating the view on one side and was too busy to film in. So they built a victorian square set in Elstree.GunGagdinMoan11:23, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
Hmm well we knew about Fassett Square, but no mention of a Walford Road? No mention of Julia Smith being from Stratford and that contributing to the 'ford' part? There is actually a Walford Road which isn't far from Fassett Square... AnemoneProjectors12:39, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
Not that I can see in this book. There are other books, such as the Inside Story, that might give some info. A good person to ask is User:Stephenb. He seems to know loads re the history of EE. GunGagdinMoan15:29, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
That's ok, I just wanted to know what the book said because someone changed the article to reflect the online source without considering what the book might say. But it seems neither source was backing up some of it. AnemoneProjectors16:07, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
Hello, Gungadin. Please check your email; you've got mail! It may take a few minutes from the time the email is sent for it to show up in your inbox. You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{You've got mail}} or {{ygm}} template.
I gave up when I got to archive 11, I thought it couldn't have been later than that! You make me laugh so much though, especially with your comments on the NFC thing. –AnemoneProjectors– 23:42, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Please don't patronise me. There was no "blanket tagging", and there is no need for me to discuss every edit I make before I make it. If you have issue with specific edits, talk to me, and hopefully we'll be able to work something out. J Milburn (talk) 16:32, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
If you feel patronised that was not my intention. I requested that you discuss issues with the project so consensus and discussion can be had, that is what wikipedia was all about last time I checked. If you feel patronised because I ask you to respect other users, then that appears to be your own issues with grandeur, not anything to do with me....GunGagdinMoan16:35, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
go ask the website .... And what's your point? I wouldnt go making allegations if i were u, because u have blatently taken images form that site like the as u did with the Kat one, allegedly from 2000, which is now deleted....best not to throw stones if you live in glass houses....--GunGagdinMoan23:42, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Whoa...I was only asking! I was curious, I wasn't making any allegatiions...I admit I get images from that site such as earlier ones. C'mon we're all friends so don't snap lol :) --GSorbyChat with Me!23:47, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
I am not sure I can provide you with anything that is published with my new company details, apart from my profile on Linked in...would that help?
The website to support my business will go live in the next few weeks, which perhaps might also help me in my quest to provide an update!
A few of the dates are incorrect and my job title is also incorrect, as I have never been a web consultant ;-) Thankfully the piece about me being married to Robin Green is no longer on the page, that was a bit embarrassing for him. No matter how much I tried to change it, it always reverted back!
I had a lovely half hour searching for pix in the attic for you this morning. I really enjoyed myself so thank you for that!! I am just reading the help section on how upload files given I don't seem to have the right account to just do it More later. This is fun!! Mavis
I'm good to go with Mavis as when you are. :) I will dig my Corrie books out. Where should we work on it. With in the list?Rain the 1BAM14:16, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
I was quite shocked the corrie books did not have much OOU information for Mavis. So I've started to build a reception section from random book mentions. I'm quite hopeful there is going to be plenty of content to add to her. :)Rain the 1BAM03:35, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
Should I seperate it now? I don't mind which. Yeah, she does have a page like the others - but Barlow just chatted about her early career and other characters in favour of her own.. Gaah. There is a DVD doc in the Corrie treasures book, but I never watched that - so that may have something.Rain the 1BAM04:03, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
Well actually, I'll be off too bed now - I lose track of time too easy. But if you want to split it you have my support, if you want me to do it I'll get to it tomorrow/later today. lolRain the 1BAM04:16, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
I've added more info to Mavis, I'm getting into this now. I wish there was some more development, I'm wanting to target her to GA in the near future. Mind you I still haven't looked through all the sources yet.. Should we include anything about Les Dennis repeatedly wooing Amanda Holden with Mavis impressions, it was covered quite a bit, but do you think it is just too like tabloid fodder? (I just found it hilarious)Rain the 1BAM03:56, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
Oh right, I didn't know Les was an impressionist. Must be before before my time :P Well could we use this as a source? Also where would you put it, reception or development?Rain the 1BAM16:26, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
I think Hilda is in the right running, obviously the refs need formatting and perhaps archiving too as some have rotted. There is so much info in the books for her though, I'll add it sometime if you like. There might well be more info from the many 50th anniversary articles about classic characters that were published last year. & Shall we take Mavis to GA then? I've got a few more things to add to her and after searching through this 300 page book. I like the fact you moved things around, when I started the reception section I didn't think that many would have opinions on her, Derek and Rita. So it became a little "he said this and she said that".Rain the 1BAM18:50, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
I know this might sound like I'm clutching at straws. But as a kid when I went to Blackpool, I always remember that in the illuminations, there were these big Green Stars with Corrie characters in the middle as part of the "popular TV" section they do annually. I can't find a source naming any yet, but there are sources confirming they had them lol. Could you try and see if there is any mention of Mavis having one for the popular culture section. I only remember Hilda and Vera's stars.Rain the 1BAM22:21, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
Also what would you do with this paragraph?
"Soap boffins will tell you the programme holds a mirror to our lives. Well it does, but it's a Daily Mirror, complete with an unfinished crossword by Kirk, moistened with a dab of Fred Gee drool and a tear from Mavis, emotionally at odds whether to give herself bodily to paper-clip king Derek ... or have a perm."
Is there anything from that you would add to the article, if yes, how would you word it. The article has given me a rare mental block, sorry to be a pain.Rain the 1BAM22:28, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
just did a search but couldnt find anything for Mavis and the Blackpool lights.[1] This is talking about waxworks. I wonder is there a corrie wax works or museum? Might have a Mavis waxwork! There is probably all sorts of merchandise with Mavis's face on that can be included if we combine a 'pop culture and other media section'. I know they did a range of Corrie Mugs with all the greats faces etc.
I dont think that Daily Mirror ref adds anything, except to say that she was ambivalent about Derek. But it's not really based on anything factual, just a clever quip by the reporter, plus we are at the stage now with the article where we need to be careful of repition and not including things just for the sake of it, cos we will likely be reprimanded for that at GA wouldnt we? But you know more about that than me, I dont tend to have much experience with GA noms.GunGagdinMoan22:51, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
Sorry about that I didn't notice, I'll keep replying here then. [4] - That could be used for Hilda, Blackpool had corrieland! I'll add that Mavis stuff later when I've watched the Soaps. I'll see if there is any coverage of the mugs and crackers. I don't know about the trivial stuff, GA never pulled me over on it - but FA did once. But if it had been said by another source and it is minor, I'll leave it out.Rain the 1BAM17:54, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
I've actually returned to editing Mavis again, I got preoccupied the past few days.. Glad Frick has offered to add some info about the non wedding, I was beggining to think their wasn't anything.Rain the 1BAM23:22, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
The article's looking really good. I think once we get Frick's input we should nominate. There must be tons of corrie books out there with info though. I may have a look through amazon or ebay.GunGagdinMoan00:06, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Yeah sure, I think there is would be enough info then. I'm always buying Soap books off Amazon - I volenteer in a charity shop also and have found 5 Corrie books so far. I'll buy the women of Corrie one soon too. Need to complete my Neighbours annual set first. :p I've just added a link from the ITV store for Mavis and Derek's gnome, they are selling a Hilda clock, 2 Hilda aprons, a remote control holder, Hilda Tea set, Hilda fancy dress .. oh the list is endless compared to Mavis. lol They'll be useful for her article whislt ITV are still hosting the sales. [5]. I don't mind working on some more with you, who is on your mind the most? I know you wanted Ivy.Rain the 1BAM00:57, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
A Holda clock! How hideous!! lol Yeah it's been great working with you, much nicer doing it collaboratively as two heads are better than one. Yeah Poison Ivy is on my list, but also ones like Rita, Len Fairclough, Mike Baldwin, Stan Ogden, Annie Walker, Bet lynch and Ena Sharples or Elsie tanner. They could all probably be great articles.GunGagdinMoan12:58, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
Back in the day when my editing was limited I had a crack at Bet, I brought Julie's auto-biog for it! So it could be great now - But maybe Ivy next. You know something that always bugs me, is that Ken Barlow's article is in such a state. I think if we all - the main soap editors gathered to work on a section each - it could be vastly improved.Rain the 1BAM13:06, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
(ud)Yeah Ken coould and should be much better. Character's like him scare me, cos due to the longevity, the article has the potential to be mammouth, so I resist taking such characters on unless I know I can devote time to complete. Otherwise I have the horrible niggling feeling that it's never finsihed, like I have with Ian Beale and Pat Evans currently. But good idea, if it's a split task it would be easier to digest. I think a good idea would be to make a plan on the talk page. We can talk about things we want to include and storylines that should be in development etc. I did something similar on Dot Cotton's talk page.GunGagdinMoan15:49, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
I would be keen to start on him soon then - I've asked Frick, AP and Junegloom if they would be interested in helping. Imagine if we all worked on a section each. We could all add to the reception section and casting. I think in development a section for Ken and Valerie, Mike-Diedre-Ken, Ken and Martha affiair, Denise, then Early years stuff would be a good place to start. I think after relationships are out of the way main SL's and anything hugely notable could go next. I think if it was just us alone it would take days to get anywhere.Rain the 1BAM16:47, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
I left a quick outline at Ken - but if you think a different approach is needed please say, I know on Dot you set out a really clear plan.Rain the 1BAM 20:53, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Shall we nominate Mavis now, as the cue at GA is getting big again and there is already a backlog forming.Rain the 1BAM21:48, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
I did it - hopefully it doesn't take forever to get reviewed. I'm so pleased that Ken actually looks as good as it does now - compared to just one week ago.Rain the 1BAM22:54, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
Yeah it's coming along well huh. I always found Ken so dull. I have a new found respect for him after doing all this work on his page.GunGagdinMoan00:20, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
No idea when they are from. If they ask we could just remove them from the text I guess. Unless you think they are needed.Rain the 1BAM00:14, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
Callum Stone
Hi!
I was just wondering if you'd have any objection to me updating the image at Callum Stone? I was thinking of capturing an image from the last episode or one of the last episodes of The Bill if I can. However as you uploaded the image I thought I'd check that was ok?--5 albert square (talk) 23:36, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
Go for it, I didnt even know who Callum Stone was until I just clicked on the article! never really watched the Bill so lord knows why I had a stage of doing screen caps for it :) That literally must have been the one episode I did watch.GunGagdinMoan00:59, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for that, I'll try and do that at some point this weekend. Probably on Sunday after I've finished stuffing my face with eggs :)--5 albert square (talk) 23:51, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
They seem quite minor edits, or have I missed something. Not sure I agree with the removal of yuppie, seeing as that's what they are so often referred to. Was there a particular bit of the edit that concerned you?GunGagdinMoan13:21, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Well just the removal of "yuppie" and the change or "middle class" to "working class". Just wondered if you thought it was accurate, seeing as you're the one with the books! –AnemoneProjectors– 15:11, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Hmmm, depends on how class is defined. It's accurate she came from working class roots but Smith and Holland always classed her as middle classed, so I suppose it depends on whether we are claiming that one inherits class for life or whether a person's class is defined by their job. Leave it as is for now. It needs expanding so I will revisit it. It's one of the early ones I did back when we started doing OOU stuff on here in our articles, and so could do with an overhaul, more references and clearer definition of whose opinion is being cited.GunGagdinMoan16:35, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Right, you've got some experience uploading images to Wikipedia haven't you? Can you please look at my talk page User talk:5 albert square#What is happing god's name and see if there's anything you can add to what I've suggested to this user on how to upload images to Wikipedia through Commons? He's new and a lot of his images are being tagged for deletion because he's not including licenses etc --5 albert square (talk) 01:28, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
Hiya, I think you have covered everything there in your explanation. I havent had much experience with Commons, but I believe Raintheone helped upload numerous free images recently on behalf of someone else, so maybe he can add something or help the user out? GunGagdinMoan14:08, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks very much for the award. I like what you're doing with the newsletter and think it will be really useful for members who arent clued in about what's going on with the project, but I tend to keep up to date with things, so I dont think I am the right audience for it. That said, I have no objection to you posting it on my talk page. Or perhaps it would be better to post it on the wikiproject talk page? GunGagdinMoan19:56, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
Welcome to the new EE newsletter! This is a new thing that I am trying out, so make sure once it's out, give me feedback! If you want to recieve the newsletter, just tell me on my userpage.
We are looking for new editors for the newsletter for future issues. If you are interested in helping shape the newsletter to focus on new areas or submit individual stories, we can use your help! The newsletter can be edited by all members of the project, and we are always seeking new volunteers. Instructions will be provided on how to develop the newsletter each month. Any interest and/or questions can be submitted to MayhemMario.
One EE article is available for review at WP:GAN. This is Yusef Khan. As members of this project are more familiar with WP:EE guidelines for EE articles, input at these reviews can be helpful for determining if they meet all good criteria. Other articles can also be found at WP:PR looking for helpful comments.
Based on views, the top five most popular character articles from our project this month were: Mandy Salter, Syed Masood, Tanya Branning, Ronnie Mitchell, and Janine Butcher. For a list of our project's top 500 most popular articles, see here. Consider helping to improve one of these articles that is seen by thousands to millions of people each month.
Remember to always add the {{WikiProject EastEnders|class=}} template to a EE article's talk page so the project can get a better idea of what work still needs to be done. If you believe that an article should be assessed at a certain class assess the article yourself (it's not too difficult to determine the basic classes such as stubs, categories, or lists).
Spotlight Update: One EE article has reached GA status in June 2011.
Remember that any editor can give the WikiProject EE Award to another WP:EE member. If you do present this award, please make mention of it here or tell one of the newsletter editors who will then include it in the next issue.
Please add your name to the member list if you have not already.
If you've just joined, add your name to the Wikipedia:WikiProject EastEnders. You'll get a mention in the next issue of the Newsletter and get it delivered to your userpage. Also, please include your own promotions and awards in future issues. Don't be shy!
Lastly, this is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue (Issue 7 – July 2011). Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned, or just start editing!
His editing pattern of removing images saying "I dont like the image" etc was very much like the blocked user of some years ago User:Dodgechris, who himself was the blocked user User:WJH1992, who has vandalised EE articles from pretty much the entire time I have been on here! I wonder if they are the same person.GunGagdinMoan23:12, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
I don't think so. Checkuser looked into it for any sleeper accounts and found some but not those. If they were related Checkuser would've found them.--5 albert square (talk) 00:15, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi Gungadin, just a quick note to say I've listed two screencaps you uploaded for Ronnie Branning in 2008 at FfD. I know a while ago at the Project we agreed to nix "storyline" type images, but my removal of them was contested, so this is just procedural. The dicussion is here. Hope all's well with you. (And in case you haven't seen it, Ken is now at Peer Review :)). Frickative22:51, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Hiya, thanks for the heads up, and I agree that both should be deleted. Good news re Ken, I hope we get some review. I suspect you will be right and they will suggest reduction :( GunGagdinMoan23:28, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Apology
Well, Gungadin, it’s been some time! This is Dodgechris, and I would like to apologize for the disruption and harassment I caused back in 2008. I have been diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome since then and this most likely contributed to the fact that I obsessively edited Wikipedia at that time, and also made it harder for me to accept the actions taken against me. I have grown up since then and I accept that my actions were immature and unnecessary. I hope you understand. Peace. Wuzzupbob (talk) 20:59, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi, the article was finished and used to be in main space, but it got nominated for deletion in 2007 Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Christmas in EastEnders and redirected to my userspace in case we needed the info. I dont know if it's wise to recreate without significant overhaul, i.e. it would need to be something other than just a list of episode rehash, as it is now. If you can actually add commentary into it, then maybe. Feel free to work on it as much as you like, edit in my userspace if you like or copy it into your user space if more convenient for you. But before you recreate, might be worth seeking approval from the EE wikiproject and let them know what you plan. That way, you wont get reversions or waste you time. Just a thought :) GunGagdinMoan00:48, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
Critical commentary from published sources. In other words out of universe information. That may include things like impact and reception, production viewing figures etc, and discussion by journalists about Christmas in EE as a stand alone topic, that doesnt just rehash plots, which the article would need in order to avoid the delete again.GunGagdinMoan01:02, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
Ok will look for sources and do so if i can find enough suitable sources that it'd be worth my time to edit the article and add in out of universe information. Thanks for your help D4nnyw14 (talk) 01:05, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
Welcome back, hope that things go smoothly for you this time. Good start with Alf. From first look, i'd say some style issues need fixing. Published material like The Independent should be italicized per MOS. I'd also suggest typing "Alf and coronation Street" into google books, there may be some stuff in some of the preview pages that can be added for development and recption. This search from the news archive website also may have some useful stuff for inclusion [7]. Well done though, looking much better than it did originally. Rain, Frickative and I have worked collaboratively on some corrie articles like Mavis Wilton and Ken Barlow. Have a look at those for some ideas, and if you like, perhaps you can join in with another collaboration we do in the future.GunGagdinMoan20:19, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Hey. I noticed you added some info to Carly's article in 2008. The first para is unsourced. I know it is a long shot, but can you remember where you got the info from? Do you think the article would be better served under Morris than Lucini too?RaintheOneBAM12:25, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
Hiya, do u mean the first paragraph in development or the lead? Assuming you mean the development, I dunno where I got tit from now, I might have just created an introduction for the character based on what is common knowledge about the beginning of Home and Away, or perhaps I reworded a synopsis from a book. Cant recall now. But it just seems like a summary which could be sourced to the show to be honest, as there's nothing controversial in there that could ever be contested from what I can see. Is there a specific part that you think needs to be sourced from the paragraph? I would support a page move to Morris.GunGagdinMoan22:58, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
It's just the "She was one of the soap's original female protagonists" part really - the rest can be sourced from the books i have. I'll move it now then, because JG, you and me. No one else would be interested.RaintheOneBAM23:05, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
Original female protagonist is just another way of saying she was an original character. You can change it to that if you think it reads better and is easier to source.GunGagdinMoan23:12, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
When I get around to it I'll just cite it from the first H&A book then. I thought it meant like the central character, but I'm crap with big words lol.RaintheOneBAM23:35, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
I have given up too - I cannot believe the editor if free to talk to others like that. If a second review came along, would you help?RaintheOneBAM04:21, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, this new person seems pleasant and I would participate if he continues in the reviewer role. I dont like the idea of that other chap being involved though. He was ridiculously unpleasant to you from the get go. You were nice despite the rudery and even complimented him, and still he was rude to you, making threats and using his power to silence you! I didnt like that one bit and I was just waiting for him to get arsey with me, which of course he did immediately. I cant abide people like that. He needs to get some perspective. GA really is not that important!GunGagdinMoan16:19, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
I know I was nice - I've seen his type before, they like the power and enjoy thinking everyone is below them - but seeing how he spoke to you for no reason. I'm not giving my time to nasty people. Looking at his history he has been blocked a number of times for his attitude but admins on his radar do the unblocking. The double standards are blatant to see..RaintheOneBAM16:36, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
G, I hope you don't mind me helping out with the review. Rain asked me and I didn't want to see all your time and effort go to waste. - JuneGloomTalk23:49, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
