Deleted Userbox

Thanks for your message about templating experienced users. I am wondering what you suggest when somebody like User:Okip makes a series of edits [9] or [13] edits long. I'd think Okip's experience would have led Okip to take some other approach, but then, I see a lot of people unaware of the tools available. The template for previewing was a handy (and I thought, polite enough) way to point it out.

And I am aware of WP:Don't template the regulars. In fact, the template was really just the wagon for me to roll my personal note into Okip's talk page, not unlike the suggestion at the end of this.

Do you, personally, go get a template, expand it, copy and paste the text, tweak it to make it your own, and then add that to a Talk page (of a regular)? Because that's what I probably would have done to avoid templating Okip for something as simple and (to me) obvious as using the preview function. I frankly didn't want to spend that much time on something so basic. Preview seems like something any newbie should catch on to before their fifth edit. Yeah, that's what I may have to do for the umpteenth time. I've blocked no less than four entire BellSouth ranges and his school IP and still he continues. I hope to high heaven that no one sees fit to honor his unblock request. Twice I offered to mentor him and twice he threw it back in my face. Add to that the sockpuppetry on top of personal attacks on me and other users - not to mention the subtle, sneaky vandalism - and the Foundation would have to be deemed completely insane to extend an unblock. April 2010 GAN backlog elimination drive

WikiProject Good Articles will be running a GAN backlog elimination drive for the entire month of April. The goal of this drive is to bring the number of outstanding Good Article nominations down to below 200. This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. I noticed that last year you deleted a subpage of mine detailing the contact the good Mr. Brandt had had with me, and the harassment I received from him. I dont edit wikipedia as much as I used to and didn't notice it was gone for a while. The page had clearly outlived its usefulness and if anything had morphed into something akin to what I was accusing him of, namely harassment. I'm contacting you, I guess, on behalf of User:Cjmarsicano regarding the image you deleted File:Watt2005.jpg. As laid out at Talk:Mike Watt#Who's the douchebag responsible? I believe the image to have been wrongly deleted, and am contacting the administrator who deleted it per Wikipedia:Deletion review#Instructions.

In brief, User:Cjmarsicano uploaded the image after receiving it and rights to use it on Wikipedia from Mike Watt. The image was deleted on Wikipedia per CSD because it had apparently been uploaded to Commons. However, it was then deleted from Commons because it was considered that the permission to use the file on Wikipedia did not extend to Commons.

Thus, the file should not have been uploaded to commons and should not have then been deleted from Wikipedia (and it would not have been necessary then to delete from Commons). As such it should be "un-deleted". Thanks. Hyacinth (talk) 08:41, 26 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I see that you have deleted File:Södermalm.JPG, because you concluded that the file had been correctly transferred to Commons. From what I can see of the upload log, it was supposedly a "{{PD}} picture by uploader" (User:Batintherain). At Commons, it is currently marked as {{GFDL-en}} without naming an author (as required by that license). As I can't see what edits may have been made to the file description page here after the file was uploaded, I'd appreciate it if you could clarify the situation. Deletion of WP:VG Wikipedia ad

Hi there! I was going to the WP:VG WikiProject page when I noticed you deleted our Wikipedia ad per CSD F8. Although there is a file of the same name at the Commons here, there is no image at the page. Are you maintaining the Commons Helper Helper script?

The script doesn't seem to be working, the talk page has comments from last year and before that say it wasn't working then, yet all of the move to commons instructions say this script is the way to go. I don't even get a button. Can you check things out and maybe deprecate the script or at least note on the move to commons pages that there may be problems? Thanks for the block on the User:WikiGuides account I heard people were a bit confused. I'm tieing up lose ends from an unequipped hotel computer (before a vacation cruise) and 1. I for one am of the opinion that we need to walk that line on the reader-facing side of Wikipedia, and make do with the reverse pranks on the main page. I realize that a peeking Jimbo on the main page is probably only surprising and funny if you're not prepared for it (if then), but feel of course free to talk to folks about it; but I'd eat my hat if you found anything close to consensus for it.
But yeah, I may miss the point of April Fool's.

Gags in non-mainspace are all good (two years ago about 50 editors all carbon coppied my sig. for an April 1st laugh after all) - MFD's of ANI, Joke RFA's etc. - but screwing the commonly seen areas - particularly the main page with a reference 99% of visitors won't get (Jimbo's head) - is going a bit far. Problem with the CommonsHelper Helper?

Greetings. The will be a drive in September to move images to the Commons, and Wikipedia:Moving files to the Commons suggests using your CommonsHelper Helper script to do so. However, it does not seem to be working for me.

I am using Chrome in Windows 7. I have a valid TUSC account, and I have included your script in my common.js page. I changed my preferences to "Show preview on first edit", and restarted my browser. When I pull up an image page, such as File:Army mil-2008-08-06-070653.jpg, I click "edit" as the instructions say to do. When I then click "Move image to Commons", nothing happens. This is the premier event for the MediaWiki and Wikimedia technical community. We'll be hacking, designing, teaching, and socialising, primarily talking about ResourceLoader and Gadgets (extending functionality with JavaScript), the switch to Lua for templates, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Labs.

We want to bring 100-150 people together, including lots of people who have not attended such events before. User scripts, gadgets, API use, Toolserver, Wikimedia Labs, mobile, structured data, templates -- if you are into any of these things, we want you to come!

I also thought you might want to know about other upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

Hi there, I'm the author of the artwork :(){ :|:& };: and I've noticed you have removed the credit to my work in this edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Fork_bomb&diff=478538756&oldid=478067768 can you please explain why? your comment is not exhaustive while your edit eliminated a whole lot of information. now there isn't a way anymore to acknowledge that such a forkbomb was also exhibited as an art-piece

The Usenet archives cite from that paragraph indicates that this particular fork bomb was known since at least 1999, contrary to the claim that you authored it in 2002. I did not know about its existance. I also don't know what do you mean by "authored", however i wrote a text for the I LOVE YOU art exhibition in 2002 (that was the date of the first exhibition in Frankfurt MAK)

if we are talking about art, I'm not sure what that word means for you, but "details" like context, concept, presentation can't be ignored. Following your reasoning, Andy Warhol would have never be shown in any museum.

Backstage at the Smithsonian Libraries

Backstage at the Smithsonian Libraries is part of Wikipedia Loves Libraries 2012, the second annual continent-wide campaign to bring Wikipedia and libraries together with on-site events. Running this fall through October and November, libraries (and archives) will open their doors to help build a lasting relationship with their local Wikipedian community.

Organized by Wikimedia DC, this event will take place on October 12, 2012, and will include new editor training, a "backstage pass" tour of the National Museum of Natural History, and an edit-a-thon. Everyone is welcome to attend!
