Shackleton and ParliamentPeople stand for Parliament so they can sit there. In Britain they usually don't "run" for Parliament, that seems to be a North American usage. I am not trying to be difficult but it rerads really strangely now to this native British speaker/writer. Dabbler (talk) 20:13, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for the comment on behalf of the League of Copyeditors. I have entered the article for a Good Article Nomination, and hopefully I can drop you a word or two to let you know of the results, so that the fine work that you'se do can truly be appreciated, not only by myself, but by those who will review the article. Thank you again, and all the editors involved in helping out!! Thanks for notifying me.Mitch32contribs 23:37, 18 January 2008 (UTC) Maps and dots and GAThanks for planning to do GA reviews. Your guess was exactly right - the state locator maps were all calibrated so that the dot appears automatically based on the latitude and longitutde. The parameter in the Chester, Pennsylvania {{Geobox City}} is "| map1_locator = Pennsylvania", which tells it to put the dot on the calibrated PA map. That way one basemap can be used for every place in a state, instead of each having to have its own unique dot map. If you want to, you can also put dot(s) on maps with x and y parameters (measured in pixels). For example, {{Cogan House Covered Bridge Map}} does this. There the x and y positions are given by "left: 148px; top: 96px" and the dot is Image:Locator Red.svg set to be 8 pixels wide. I was thinking about your question and figured out that you can superimpose any image on another - see User:Ruhrfisch/map for some inset maps I am playing with (if you click on either map, you get the full original). The problem with a linear feature like a canal or stream is that one dot is not a great representation of it. Dincher made maps based on my PA basemap for the four linear state parks (see Delaware Canal State Park and Image:Delaware Canal State Park2.PNG). You can also add more than one dot to a map - see {{State parks of Pennsylvania map}} (120 dots) and {{State parks of Illinois map}} (I lost count). I also think you could draw the course of the canal as an image and superimpose it as a "dot" on a basemap (it would need to have a transparent background, but that is one option in Paint.NET). I made transparent red X's and teepees and forts for {{Black Hawk War Map}}. Hope this helps and ask away as you have more questions, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:18, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Re: LOCE/RCan you, please, remove the requests for Bengali Language Movement and Shahbag? Both are FAs now and, in all probability, will not need a serious copyedit any soon. Sorry to have left the requests still posted. Aditya(talk • contribs) 03:01, 19 January 2008 (UTC) Copyedit requestFinetooth, thanks for your message on my talk page. A copyedit isn't necessary for The Wiggles at this time, since it has recently been upgraded to good-article status. If it requires it to get to FA-status, I'll resubmit it. --Figureskatingfan (talk) 04:01, 19 January 2008 (UTC) Um, never mind! I changed my mind, because I'd now like to see this article get to FA-status and after thinking about for a day, realize that a copyedit by you guys would help. So I'm taking you up on the offer you made on my talk page to expedite the copyedit. Thanks. --Figureskatingfan (talk) 02:08, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
Hey! Sorry it took so long to respond on the Gawain poem talk page. I've only just recently been able to really dig into it. I'd love to have your help on this. Wrad (talk) 04:33, 19 January 2008 (UTC) Recruitment driveThanks for your response and thanks for putting it on my talk page. I did miss it, which is odd, because it was on my watchlist. But lately there seems to be a plethora of edits to articles on my watchlist--too many to keep track of. I honestly don't know if I want to join the LoCE. I don't really have time for the little that I do on Wikipedia, and I really hate the hassles. And I really don't understand why "logical quotation" is the style. To be honest, I think it's stupid. Why Wikipedia should go against the rules of virtually every other publication is beyond me. But that's another thing I don't want to get into a hassle about. I can have my opinion and leave it at that. I'll check in on what the LoCE's projects are but I don't see myself diving in too deep. Thanks again for your reply. I wonder why there weren't more? ~ InkQuill 04:30, 20 January 2008 (UTC) Shackleton at FACHi Finetooth, Well, I nominated Ernie for FA. If you want you can see the nomination here. This word is not capitalised in UK publications such as The Guardian, The Times and BBC publications/websites. It shouldn't be capitalised in Wikipedia articles that use British English. I had very little to do! Please let me know if you disagree with any of my amendments. Best wishes, talkGiler 12:18, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Emma Watson...Hello again—I've proofread another article you've recently copyedited (Emma Watson). Again, I'd welcome your comments on my proofing; I'm new to proofreading on WP, so am happy to benefit from constructive criticism! Best wishes, talkGiler 15:11, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
No, seriously. I physically pains me to have people edit my writing. I think everyone should use the same thought processes I do. It's a long article, and one I put a lot of effort and heart into. Thank you for brushing it off and making it sparkle.
Many thanksThanks so very much for the barnstar, you really didn't need to (but I am glad you did). Glad to have been of some help and let me know if / when I can be of assistance. MapYes, that should be Beardmore Glacier. Minna Bluff is much closer to the coast; it was the staging depot - they laid in the stores there in the first season and then picked them up to distribute along the route the next season. I'll see if I can find a map somewhere to show you where Minna Bluff is. Good work on the map, I never felt up to tackling it. Yomanganitalk 18:25, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
I know you've corrected the map now, but in case you are still interested I suddenly remembered that Cherry-Garrard's map for the Terra-Nova expedition shows the features in detail (Minna Bluff is just marked as "Bluff"). Yomanganitalk 10:59, 30 January 2008 (UTC) Hi. I have been working on this article for a few weeks and I plan to bring it to PR by the middle of Feb. If you have the time, I would like to request a thorough copy edit from you. I have to still write the last section called "Modern literature" which will take me about two weeks. I though, if you are free, this may be a good time to start copy edits on the rest of the content. Please tell me when you will be free and give me a day or two to do a screening, though. This article will be a new challenge to you, with plenty of vernacular terms (most of which have been explained or linked), though a few remain unexplained. An important part of the copy editing will be to smartly reduce content without loosing information. This is where someone like you would come in.thanks. Hope you are free.Dineshkannambadi (talk) 15:28, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Lazulilasher (talk) 19:26, 27 January 2008 (UTC) A shameless plea for help on an unrelated topic....Hey there, hope all is well. So, one of my unrelated to Shackleton/pied-noir interests is France in general and I've been screwing around adding with Template:Infobox_Paris_metro (specifically the Paris map at the bottom of the infobox). Anyway, I've noticed your the local map expert...so, I've got a question. I've got the map to load with the correct geographic area corresponding to each metro station. However, for the life of me I cannot get the darned thing to center inside of the infobox.....do you have any ideas? Thanks again for always helping this hapless newbie ;) Lazulilasher (talk) 00:23, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Request for copyeditHello. An article I've nominated at WP:FAC, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, currently has only copy-editing concerns remaining (see the article's nomination) and although I filed a request at WP:LOCE/R, I was recommended to solicit the aid of a copy-editor personally. Any aid you can give is greatly appreciated, but I fully understand if other tasks have your attention at the moment. Cheers, Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 07:21, 9 February 2008 (UTC) Tel Aviv FACJust to short note to say that I think you're doing an outstanding job on the Tel Aviv article. I just read your piece in the sandbox. I think it is excellent work. I was also thinking that we may want to recruit Brian Boulton? Check [[3] out. I wonder if he would be interested? I think this is something that we'll be able to do successfully. Lazulilasher (talk) 16:11, 12 February 2008 (UTC) UCRThanks for your great copyediting of the UCR article! Just to let you know, I'm not quite settled on the content that should go into the last paragraph of the history section. I was thinking of removing the last two sentences of that paragraph, but I am not sure of that or of the rest of the material up to the Traub quote. I don't think it needs to be deleted but I'm not sure where else it should go. Beyond the double impact of "Tidal Wave II" and Prop 209, the most significant thing to occur in relation to UCR was the approval of their med school, and "History" should perhaps end on that note. Other than that, the "Campus" section and information under "Academics#organization" and "research and economic impact" I wanted to render more coherently, if not more completely. Just wanted to let you know in case you started copyediting these sections and I started moving things around, deleting or otherwise changing content. Best regards, Ameriquedialectics 00:53, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
More mapRe your Shackleton map. I'm working on the Terra Nova Expedition article and would like to incorporate a map giving an overview of this expedition's various journeys. The expedition worked only in the Ross Sea sector, so the general continental outline map, as used for Shackleton, is on too small a scale - most of the Terra Nova journeys wouldn't show up. Is there any possibility of a producing map of just the Ross Sea sector (as shown by the green-shaded segment in the map on the Ross Dependency), on a scale that would identify features such as Ross Island, McMurdo Sound, Victoria Land etc? Any ideas as to how to get such a map would be welcome. Brianboulton (talk) 15:21, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm resuming talk page communication as someone else might read it with an idea or two to help with our map. The best I can do for the moment is as follows:-
If you have the time to clean up the map as above, & are prepared to go on with this, I'll give precise directions as to where these lines are to go. If there are technical/time problems I'll understand. Thanks for your help so far Brianboulton (talk) 22:56, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
Version 6 looks great. The three journey lines should be entered as follows:-
When the map is finished I will write a key to the lines. Are you intending to put it in Commons? Brianboulton (talk) 14:16, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Boulder, Montana, finally a replyHello, again. I hope your visit to Basin is/was fun and relaxing. To answer your question about books on Boulder history, I haven't ever seen one. Even in state history books, Boulder doesn't really play a big part; the only significant event I ever heard of while I lived there was that it was the territorial capitol for one day. The legislature met there while the seat of government was being moved to Helena (from Virginia City, IIRC). This could be a local legend, though. Maybe I should interview some of the old-timers next time I visit my folks.... Regards, JSC ltd ([[User talk:JSC ltd|talk]]) 20:23, 26 February 2008 (UTC) CopyeditingHi. Vera Katz and HistoryHowdy folks, its time for another installment of WikiProject Oregon’s Collaboration of the Week! Last week we made some improvements to the Oregon Coast and brought The Register-Guard up to B class while garnering a DYK! Great job to those who lent a hand. This week we finish up the High priority Stubs with former mayor and Speaker of the House, Vera Katz, which is pretty much a Start class now and could easily get to B class. We also have History of Oregon by request. Help out if you can, where you can. As always, to opt out, opt in, or suggest future collaborative efforts, click here. Aboutmovies (talk) 07:46, 25 March 2008 (UTC) KatzThat would be great to use in the part of the article where it is mentioned. CreeksGlad to be of service. If you are looking for model articles I am not sure if you have also read Plunketts Creek (Loyalsock Creek) which is the third FA creek article I am the primary author of - it was not one I planned to do much on, but there was enough material that I got it to GA and then FA. It is a tiny creek and there were some issues with missing information - there is no stream gauge on it, for example. Paulins Kill is another FA - it is a small stream in New Jersey and I helped some with it, but ExplorerCDT (who is no longer on Wikipedia) was the main author there. It is more urban than the other creek FAs. I hope to get one or two more Lycoming County creeks to FA this year. Thanks to those who helped out with improving Vera Katz and History of Oregon during the last Collaboration of the Week! As you may have noticed, we have changed the banners a bit, but not our dedication to everything Oregon! This week, in honor of the political process, we have: Current Oregon Senate members & Current Oregon House members. Hopefully by November we can have an article on every current member of the Oregon Legislature. So feel free to turn a red link blue or expand an existing article. Since it is an election year, there should be plenty of newspaper stories. Plus, the state archives has this site that allows you to go back and see when they started serving and district info, plus at a minimum show they were a state legislator from a WP:RS. And per WP:BIO, all state legislator's are notable so no need to worry about AFD. As always, to opt out, opt in, or suggest future collaborative efforts, click here.
